Z1 Backup Restoring Problem - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys , i have a problem with backup restoration on my z1. I made a few days ago a full backup on my ext sd card (everything went well) and now when i try to restore it the recovery only restores a part of that backup . The backup is 3.8gb but it only restores about 3 gb and at the end i get this error "volume not found skipping restore of sd-ext error" , the phone boots up but the launcher and a lot off apps are missing . I tried to copy the backup folder by phone and pc to the internal sd card of the phone but i can't because i get an error. how i can restore the backup and what can be the problem? My bl is locked and i used xzDual recovery 2.8.21 and 2.8.23 but i get the same error when restoring. I don't have another sd card to test this. Any help is good.
Error: volume not found skipping restore of sd-ext error

Have you tried mounting the drive that gives the error manually before starting restoring?

clockworkmod issue

helllo i have a samsung galaxy s. i downloaded CWM and used it before and it ran fine did a backup. then i decided to do a full factory reset of the phone including formatting the SD card. the phone is still rooted.
anyway with a clean phone i reinstalled CWM premium and try and backup my rom to get a clean backup done as i want to be able to go back to the original rom supplied by my carrier (optus) once i have played with froyo.
now the issue is the phone reboots and then the following errors happen
--Install from package--
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Cant open /cache/update/zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
does anyone know what to do, i have tried to do all the things as requested by CWM when i reboot, ie recovery mode is broken.
have enabled erase recovery = cant find this option
clearing the download cache =done no change
i reinstalled the program and have hard reset it again too.
Hi
if i understood correctly you formatted the internal memory of your phone. Well if thats the case, then unfortunately you deleted the ROM backup that you made on the internal memory (unless before formatting you copied the folder /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/ (the rom back up folder) to your Computer) and also you deleted the clockwork recovery file. So now you need to install CWM from the scratch. and get yourself a stock (optus) rom backed up by someone the same method. i remember i have seen it somewhere here in the forum just search for it.
good luck
sorry what i mean is that i reset my phone to the factory default to get a backup of the stock optus firmware. and am having issues doing this backup. as it wont boot into recovery properly.
ok fixed it... not sure why as this does not make sense. but i went back to the internal sd card memory backup i had done and copied the recovery-update.zip and download folders back to the phone... went into CWM and then tried to do another backup and it works... maybe a bug during re-installation???
Well, glad to hear your problem is solved.
cheers

Help I cannot log into my phone

Hello,
So I was trying to install ICS on my nexus one... and like the idiot I am I made a NANDROID backup of my phone right before continuing with the installation of BlackRose. I made a partition of my SD card in Clockwork Recovery. With 1GB and a 256mb swap.
I rebooted the phone and see that my SD card is empty. Which probably meant my NANDROID backup was erased?
Is there a way I could recover this??? I just want my SD card data back .
And like a bigger idiot, I went back into Clockwork Recovery and did a factory wipe, (I thought I still had my nandroid backups), I tried to restore, but there was nothing in the SD card.
My main problem is that I want to restore my phone back to what it was... before I partitioned the SD card.
Right now I have a phone that is completely wiped and I cannot restart it because the setupwizard is bugged and force closes when I try to skip plus I don't have a system keyboard installed or a system launcher.
Stop using your sdcard for writing data and try this while the sdcard is connected via a card reader.

While you're at it, drop the SWAP partition. A waste of perfectly usable 256MB. You can find plenty of places where it's explained, why SWAP is a bad idea for Android.
Hey Jack_R1
How do I delete the partition?

partition sd card in recovery 0Mb for swap
while your at it hit THANKS for the guys on TOP ^_^
I've recovered the nandroid backup files.
My microsd card is completely empty.
Where do I go from here to restore the backup?
Do I make a folder in the root as clockworkmod/backup/ and put the files in there?
I've tried that and i keep get Md5 mismatch! Error.

[Q] CWM, error restoring /data

Hi all !
I had OmniRom installed, and after trying to go back to my stock ROM via a CWM backup I had, I cannot restore backups from my external SD card anymore.
Whenever I try to restore a backup (either a newly made one or an old one), I have "error while restoring /data". The WM lock says "can't partition non mmcblk devide /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host/mmc1".
Backing up to the internal card and then restoring works.
I tried to move a backup from the external card to the internal card and then restoring, but it did not work (same error).
Any idea where this might come from ?
How can I solve this ?
Thanks !

Answering my own question : after reflashing boot.img from FXP250, restoring my backup worked ! I thought it was the one I had restored in the first place, but obviously I was wrong !

[Q] TWRP crashing while doing backup of data partition

I'm currently using TWRP on my XT1063. I'm having weird problems regarding TWRP's access to the data partition. When I try to do a nandroid backup of the data partition, it gets 10-30% of the way through the backup then crashes and reboots to system.
I've successfully backed up the system partition to my external SD card, so it doesn't seem to be an SD card problem. I did TWRP fix permissions and it appears to have completed successfully. I'm not sure what is causing this nor how to solve it...
I think my next step will be to reinstall TWRP and try again. Failing that, I guess I'll switch to clockwork mod recovery, which I haven't used in a long time. Do you have any suggestions on things I could try before reinstalling recovery?

Twrp restore error

I am using TWRP 3.0.2-7 which was working fine until yesterday i got this "extracttarfork() error:255" while restoring a backup. I have restored that backup many times before too and didnt tamper with it in any way.
Now i have 5 huge backups on my sd card, none of which can be restored properly, i am saying properly because that error only shows up when the data partition almost finishes restoring. I can restore system and boot without any problem(basically any partition other than data)
According to the information i gathered from net, this error should occur when i am running low on storage which isnt the case. So totally confused
The log is in the zip
Any help will be appreciated, thanks
