Mate S - waterproof / water resistant? - Huawei Mate S

I read that Mate S is water resistant, but I wonder which model - chinese only (with ForceTouch) or any available?

I has a water resistant coating, but you cannot take it under water.

And how this water resistant coating works actually? Can it protect audio jack, micro-USB, speaker or microphones against raindrops?

[Q] Curiosity Question

Hi Guys,
I've been wondering for a few days, Sony is basically making the "Waterproof" function of this phone as the main selling point.
I'm just curious as to how the insurance and warranty is going to be affected by the water proof.
As I know most insurances claim its water damage and say its not covered.
Can they still do this with the Xperia, as its water proof?
Are warranties etc going to change incorporating the water-proof(ness).
Thanks.
It's not water-proof, it's water-resistant.
The water seals inside the phone will still void your warranty if voided, its just like a water proof camera, if YOU haven't secured your waterproof flaps/seals properly and then submerge it, then it is user error.
Wait a minute, so why the hell do they claim "Water-PROOF" whens it not.
So basically, you couldn't just wash it off like the advert.
Define RESISTANT compared to PROOF....?
??? It is water resistant, I washed my xperia z a few times now, mostly as a show of, and also spent some time in the bath with it watching....
Nevermind point is when you don't close the flaps and submerge it the sensors underneath the flaps turn red, making warranty void, but if there is water damage without the flap sensors tripping, then you are covered by warranty, some users are worried about the flaps turning red, but for me they are still white eventhough I submerged the phone in water several times now.

Erm... There are flaps on the phone covering every port and I'm sure the Xperia Z is advertised as water resistant. Not waterproof. It can still witstand being submerged underwater for up to 30mins and 100m though.
I guess you mean 1m and not 100m. But that would have been nice for deep sea diving.

Hahahah XD Yeah! My bad! Was doing Math while typing that post
Math screws up your brain.
If i am not wrong, the spec states ip7 and ip5.ip 5 would likely be water resistant while ip 7 is water proofing

So whats the use in the flaps?
Why not just remove the flaps and then theres no chance of you messing up?

You are wrong, it is
IP55 = Limited dust ingress protection low pressure water jets from any direction
and
IP57 = Limited dust ingress protection immersion between 15cm and 1m depth
And as long as the flaps are closed you'll be a ok.

What the heck, I need to see one of these in real I think.
I really wanted one but now with all the talk of flaps I'm thinking twice...
go ahead and get it. this is the most rugged high end phone to date and probably for the entire year 2013. all the best.

The flaps don't really disturb, To charge the phone you can use the dock, and for listening to music (if you do that a lot) you can go with bluetooth earphones.
And I've submerged my phone also in a galss of water and also took it into the shower, you should just make sure that you dry your phone before openening the flaps again, then avaerything should be fine
Great, Xperia looks like my upgrade then. May see some of you around here in a few months time when I'll be an owner
Have fun all, thanks very much for your responses.

The phone is waterproof upto 1.5 metres but the screen will not function fully submerged. In the shower or in the rain will be fine.
Corrected this post as I originally said water resistant.

Read up on how capacitive screens works.
None work under water!
Sorry to jump in like that, BUT actually the Z1 is promoted as being waterproof and not water-resistant... I would expect that to imply resistance to water submerge.
What do you think?

Ok so the phone is waterproof to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes but the screen is not meant to function under water. When I said shower and rain I was referring to the screen still functioning Ok.
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I believe the fact that the touchscreen doesn't work under water was also the reason why sony put the hardware camera button on it so you can take pics/video underwater

The definition of Waterproof proves that you are wrong in your arguments.
The definition of waterproof is as follows(Oxford dictionary):
Impervious - Not permitting or allowing something to pass, in this case it's water - to water So basically waterproof means that yor device will not permit passage to water but nowhere does it say that the touchscreen should work because touchscreens demand direct contact with your finger. Try using a touch enabled phone when it's raining and you will quickly realize that some touches are not recognized

[Q] waterproof covers?

Just bought the z3c, there are no covers for the headphones output in the box,or any other covers.
There should be a cover for anything or it's supposed to be waterproof just like this out of the box?

It is waterproof as long as the lateral flaps are closed. The headphones jack is sealed therefore it doesn't need a cover

But be aware it's only _water_ proof. Saw a guy dunk it in beer, didn't go so well.

[Q] audio jack waterproofing

hey guys, a little question from me. for all of you that have owned xperia z1 for awhile.
the open headphone jack is coated with hydrophobic coating , or seal that prevents the water to get in to the device, will this wear off ? even if you often use normal audio jack for listening to the music?
i need to know if , lets sat the z1 more than 1 year old it still will be waterproof thanks for the answer

It's not just a coating, there's a membrane similar to a wetsuit (but much thinner) protecting the innards of the device.
That's mostly where the "or 30 minutes" portion of the waterproofing results comes from, because it's not exactly waterproof, it's a closed cell neoprene membrane. Water does get in, but it takes ~30 minutes to get through. Now, yes, you can exceed 30 minutes and be fine, it's just a "take it with a grain of salt" situation.
I wash my phone once a week under hot water (at a temperature I can still handle with bare hands), and have been doing so since Jan 2014. It'll be fine

Good waterproof case?

I've never used a,waterproof case on any of my phones, and the edge doesn't have lifeproof support....would ghostek atomic 2.0 be a good alternative here? I'm never around water normally, but I love swimming and want to take some underwater videos and selfies and some storm videos as well. Any help would be great.
Good luck with finding a waterproof case for a waterproof phone
+1 for Skezza....

I already used my phone without any case in the pool and shoot some underwater videos. If this is still too risky for you. Try using something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Wa...id=1478265846&sr=1-3&keywords=waterproof+case

Wow, did that work?
I have a pool, The phone has a camera and is waterproof. Voila
Sorry for this but I don't get the question
I took my Note 7 in the pool before I sent it off to die. Worked great, no indication of damage from the water.
Since I have a few GoPros I probably won't be doing that often but at least I don't have to worry about getting wet while kayaking.
That's awkward/weird... The phone is already waterproof man! ?
Well not really.. Its IP67 so you can have it under water for 30 min up to 1.5 meter IF (and this is the big if) IF you keep it steady and dont move it to create a higher water pressure.
For proper under water photage I would use a case anyway.
Bought this from Ali. Takes awhile to get. Might be cheap, but it works. Touch response isn't bad either. Phone might be waterproof, but I take mine snorkeling in saltwater. Plus with the case you can still use touchscreen underwater.

It's pretty close though. IP68, so you can pretty much take pics/vids as long as you don't keep it underwater for over 30 minutes. Samsung does give the following caveats that may justify a case:
- Audio quality will be bad when wet
- Touchscreen may not work

ghosttek atomic 2.0
