dbrand skins can I just do the wording or do I need the whole skin? - Nexus 5X Accessories

I want to add the nexus letters either onto my phone or onto a TPU case like this guy did here. http://i.imgur.com/xdYBhSX.jpg
I've never applied one of these before. I thought you had to install the full backside skin so that it would form a template where the letters could be plugged in? Do you guys think that the lettering would stay on by itself if I applied them without applying the full backing piece? If not onto a case, would they fall off if I applied them onto the phone and then put a clear TPU case over the phone?

If you cover them, they'll stay. If you leave them out in the open with out the full back piece then I doubt they'd last for long as you can easily flick them off using slight pressure with a fingernail.

Yeah, that's my concern. I suppose I could get either a white or black backing and put that on there and it wouldn't even look like there was a backing skin on there?
I picked up the DGtle TPU case in clear smoke (http://www.amazon.com/DGtle-Anti-Scratches-Premium-Flexible-Protective/dp/B0159PEBUA). Was thinking I could do just the lettering on the nexus and then put the case over it, the letters would be protected then, and you could see the nexus letters much better through the case.
I also have the Ringke Slim in the picture above. I'm going to try to put nexus logo onto it, just have to figure out how to make the letters stick permanently.

[Q] How do you protect your nexus? Case, pouch, invisible shield, nothing

Just was wondering what people have been using to protect their N1s now that its been out for a while, and how has it held up. I like the look of the N1 on its own without cases, and was thinking of using the little pouch that came with the box with no other case. Is this a wise move?
I have a case on my phone and an anti-glare screen protector (don't get anti glare it ruins the screen's look and colors) the reason I don't use the pouch is it gets annoying to take the phone out of my pocket with the pouch on then have to remove the phone from the pouch.

The slip case that came with the phone
Seidio Innocase works for me. See the XDA Nexus acessories section...
I've got an Otterbox Commuter series case that I use when I'm on "business" trips or at other times that my phone is likely to be handled roughly. That case is no joke. Actually, I would probably use that case all the time if I didn't use my car dock every time I drive. It takes a bit of time to pull the phone out of the case several times a day. I generally just use the slip case that came with the phone. Does a good job of fighting off scratches, and is still easy to remove so I can install the phone in a dock in just a moment.
Just a screen protector, I have used cases/covers etc, and always end up coming back to just nothing I like the slim feeling
I like the slim look also, thats why i think im going to stick with the little android pouch that came in the box. Just hope it doesnt cause any black marks on the sides or anything. Previous owner of the nexus said he never used a case but made sure nothing else was in his pocket and the phone looks brand new with no marks anywhere.
On one of my other N1s there are some dust particles under the screen on the bottom left. 1 of them is big enough to look like a dead pixel when the screen is on, the rest are not noticeable. Anyone have a easy fix to get rid of the dust? That one particle is starting to annoy me.
Ever since I lost the neoprene case, I have been going commando.
Case-Mate "Tough Case" and the screen protector that came with it.
Transparent polycarb hard-case from eBay. Beautiful and strong, but no docking possible.
Stealth guard and there pouch that came with it

I do similar: when I'm traveling, I put the N1 in my Otterbox Commuter case and enable the PIN the lock. Otherwise, no case and no PIN.
A gel skin for me.
I put a screen protector on it to cut down on sweaty fingerprints during the summer, otherwise nothing. I've had mine since it came out for ATT (march?) and it's still perfect. Just keep keys and change in the other pocket.
i'm using a silicone slip on protector. i'm too scare i'll drop it without it otherwise i would go commando but i have nerve damage in my right hand so my control over parts of my hand are sub par compared to normal people
my ulnar nerve was severed by glass and repaired but i still do not have full function of the minor muscles in my hand and only have partial feeling in the pinky/ring finger and that side of my hand so thicker phones are more comfortable in my hand and the super rubber grip around the whole thing makes it very hard if not impossible for it to slip out of my hand.

I use BestSkinsEver (for a fraction of the cost of an InvisibleShield) protection and a horizontal leather Case Logic pouch... I used to have a silicon protector but it was a pain in the butt because it collects dust and lint like crazy!

Scratch Removal for Nexus S Plastic Housing/Backcover

I've been noticing scratches on the plastic backcover of my Nexus S that apparently comes about when the phone is placed on a hard wooden surface. Is there any product available that removes scratches and safe to use on this type of plastic?

Hope that you find an answer, meanwhile have a look at this? http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=871308
Excellent find. Although the scratches aren't as bad, I'm thinking of using a plastic polish (even the Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0) to see if that removes them.
Edit: Bought Mothers Plastic Polish instead. Will keep you guys updated when I try it.

Any luck? can you take pictures before and after? Thanks much
Using the Mothers Plastic Polish on the Nexus S plastic backcover didn't remove them and actually introduced more scratches, but they were very fine and the phone needed to be held under light to notice.
I would advise anyone who gets this phone to order a case with it. My 2 year old Samsung Galaxy Spica takes more beating than this and still looks like new (without ever using a case too!)
yeah, the only solution for me seems to be order a throw around extra back cover if I were to go without a case, but they are not easy to find.

Official clear back cover review, sort of

I got the official S7E clear back cover from Ebay and it's the Korean version. On the invoice that came with it it literally says and I quote "This item is premium Korean version, and it is better than regular international version". I have no idea how much merit is there to that claim but I really like the item itself. The non-transparent edge and corners somehow make this case less visually intrusive than other all-transparent cases because it kind of blends in with the design language of the naked phone.
The back has this doted texture to it which is great because with the naked phone, you can appreciate the special metallic finish of the back with all the complex ways it reflects light. But having a plastic over it interferes with that and can make the phone look cheap. But with the dot pattern you give it a new different look that works with the plastic.
The top and bottom of the phone is not covered, which is good because it doesn't interfere with any of the IO ports/ microphone or card slot. I mean there's not much of a chance for you to drop your phone exactly on the edge of a curb with the top/bottom of your phone, so it's really not worth the inconvenience of covering them up.
There are two minor problems though. First is that it's just really difficult to clean both the inside of the case and the back of the phone perfectly, there's always some fibres or dust particles in-between. The dot pattern helps but it's still annoying to see things trapped there.
The perfectly flat portion of the back feels like there's a protector film ontop and you can feel the edge around the edges. I even tried multiple times to like "peel it off" only to find out that there is no film and it's just raised up by like .2mm with sharp edges. I have no idea why.
Great pictures love the review. But these types of cases all have the sharp edge issue. But for those who are after minimalism it's worth the small annoyance. The lip also adds a bit more grip to hold onto.
I said it before, I think it's a bad case. Like it was made in a big hurry.
Smudgy back, shaky laterals, sharp inner cuts
S6 Edge+ had a much better one, not to mention the beautiful glossy cover.........
I don't like that it offers no protection at the top and bottom. It's certainly possible for a phone to land on those edges, and if you're using a case for protection I'd rather protect all the edges. My Spigen Liquid Crystal has large enough openings for the ports that plugging something in isn't an issue, but it still offers some protection.

Seems like Samsung didn't learn anything & made no improvements to this case. I had this case for my S6E and it scratched up too easily & small particles always got stuck between the back of the phone & the case. I threw mine away.

Anyone going naked....what are the results?

Just curious as I am using the Best Buy screen protector film and just can't stand the feel of the sharp edges etc so I want to remove it. Anyone gone a while without coverage and if so, any major scratches?
Thanks in advance
Hi @imapfsr,
using my device without a screen protector since 22/12/2016 and have no scrates
Everything should be fine if you use an protective cover for the phone.
I got an inch-long scratch on the screen where usually my right thumb roams around while it's been only a month I got this phone.
Thanks for your input....I was hoping for all positive results but I think Im still going to chance it. I do have a nice lined sleeve so I should be ok. It really is amazing how good this screen looks when you dont have anything on it so Im going to enjoy it instead of obsessing over it and keeping it mint for the next user when I sell it.
have you seen the scratch test videos on youtube for this phone? this phone is as scratch resistant as any other flashship device. i honestly have no idea what people could be doing to scratch this phone. i carry it with my keys in my pocket with zero worry about it scratching after seeing the test. i really don't know how you could scratch it unless you did it intentionally.
I occasionally use the case it came with but 90% of the time this thing is in it's Birthday suite, not a single scratch or mark on it. The Ceramic is such a gorgeous material and pretty much scratch proof! The glass used for the screen is also pretty robust. I wouldn't worry about this thing scratching... drops are what you should be afraid of!
Same here ...ive had rhis since November, I actually hate the leather case and opted for a slim transparent case from China which shows off the body...I tried to go completely naked but this phone is just waaaaay to slippery, dont have a screen protector...and wont put one one....not a single scratch...( Fingers crossed)
Most things wont scratch it, unless its "harder" than the material of the phone.
Watch out for things like SAND! and GLITTER!
Thanks everyone for your feedback. I am full on nude now...lots of hand cream to keep the phone from slipping out of my hands...no scratches on the front but surprise how quickly the ceramic back has developed tiny scratches but it still feels to good for any kind of wrap or skin.
Darn glitter ?

Mind directing me to the slim transparent case from china?
Thanks in advance.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0..._SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=xiaomi+mimix+case also have a look at case fanatic they have a few different ones ive ordered some but they haven't arrived yet.
Mine is still mint. Leather case has never touched it. I am overly careful and don't even leave it on most tables and such unless there is a soft tissue, tablecloth or anything covering the surface. That can sort of be crippling for most people. Therefore it's mostly in a pocket clean of debris. I just can't stand cases. I always opt for custom skins for the back so I can put it down everywhere. Chances of finding someone making custom skins for this device must be slim. No luck yet. May have to buy one of those ready made ones. Seen a carbon type, but seems like the choices are few. Please hit me up if anyone else are looking and finds anyone that offers custom ones. Would be much appreciated.
Maybe I'll make my own, idk.
So I am two or three weeks in with no protection, front or back, and I hate to say it but the back of my phone is scratched up pretty bad. I use a sleeve to carry it around and I'm not sure if that is what is causing it. Just curious if anyone else has had bad scratching our if it's just me.
No screen protector, no casing, no nothing. Had it since december 19th. No scratches, still pristine.
It's forbidden where I live, unfortunately.
What is forbidden? Going naked?
I never use the film screen protectors, presently [as with all my past phones] using the provided leather case [will eventually go to a flip cover case - always have them so comfortable with them].
I prefer carrying my phone naked. Especially, when it's a nice looking phone. You just have to be conscious of having your phone and grip it tight while holding it as opposed to casually holding it in a relaxed manner. Nothing will happen to it if you consciously take care of it. At best, put it in your back pocket while walking and not using it, but don't forget it's there
i have been using this naked since i purchased in September 17. Only issue is ceramic is very slippery, so use side sticker atleast to increase grip.
something like this https://www.amazon.com/Decalrus-Pro...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=2PK292A230JGWCC1JQTT
but put only on side, no back, no bottom and up

should I return? pics included

I've only had my phone a few days. I've had it in a case the entire time. A unicorn beetle pro. It has a plastic piece/screen protector that you attach to the front and it kind of grips the sides. The phone nor the case moves at all. Then you put that into the hard shell. I highly doubt the case scratched my phone at all. The bezel area has a lot of these micro scratches. I can't see it in normal lighting.... Doesn't show up in normal pic... But if I turn on the flash it does. Is this to be expected on every shiny bezel? I'm trying to figure out if I should return it and get a black one.. Thinking the black bezel isn't shiny like this and wouldn't show? Can anyone else with a Grey orchid take a picture of the bottle.. Bezel with flash on and see if you have these same lines?

Thank you bro.
I had exactly same with my previous Gold Note 8 which was in a UAG Plasma since day one, I think that's just the way it is...scratching easily. I will not check my current Black Note 8, don't want my OCD to kick in )
I remember the Note 4 with the chamfered aluminium it had... I had it in otterbox commuter since I took it out from box and after a while when I took it out to show it off to someone, it looked like I rubbed it against sand paper
PS: I think the S6/S7 had the best frames, that matte aluminium never scratched!

You're absolutely right. I was gonna say that my s7 edge with the dark gray non shiny bezel has no issues like this because it isn't shiny. BTW I called a Verizon store and sent the pics to him. I was trying to get him to check the other notes. He said every single one will have those lines he said it was the brushed metal effect or something.
If they were actual scratches they'd be seen easily in normal light. Now I'm really just wondering if the black would hide these lines better. I did see a thread about the black paint peeling which worries me.
I felt like my wife's orchid grey S8+ his scratches and fingerprints better than my black one did.
Your phone is fine. It's just the brushed metal. All of them will do it if the light hits at the right angle.
