Flashing the Asus Zenfone 4 with Stock ROM - Asus Zenfone 4

To recover the bootloop issue, stucked on boot screen, you can try these step
**I have check many steps provided by experts(with due respect to all), it was not working like flashing with the "Asus Flash Tool Installer_1.0.0.7" issue was unable to select the RAW file, so I have tried many things they did not worked. Then I downloaded the "Asus Flash Tool Installer_1.0.0.0(older version)"> Select the phone model as PF400 CG> IT WORKED , so I am posting this one.
******Try at your Own Risk********(but there is no risk as your phone is already dead...
*********PREVIOUS DATA WILL BE ERASED**********
** First you must install these :
1. Intel Usb Driver: http://d-h.st/VfO
2. Asus Flash Tool Installer_1.0.0.0(older version) : http://fs1.d-h.st/download/00140/LGq/AsusFlashToolInstaller.exe
3. Asus zenfone 4 raw file: http://www.mediafire.com/download/prtp8p7ok6s9izf/Zenfone+4+V4.3.10.raw
After you install, follow my steps carefully
1. Boot your phone into droidboot by pressing Power Button + Vol Up
2. In your PC Open Asus Flash Tool
3. In Select the phone model as PF400 CG, also Wipe data (yes) and choose the raw file
4. Plug your phone to your PC
5. After you plug your phone you will see a serial number , and click your device (it will highlighted with Blue color)
6. Start flashing
7. After flashing ,your phone will automatically reboot
8. Enjoy.
**after this, if your phone works, go to setting>about phone> s/w update> repeat the same again.....it may possible that you will get the kitkat or lollipop update from ASUS OTA(because i have received the same, still is not downloading, once it is getting finsihed I will let you know).
Thanks and Best of luck...:good::good::good:

Help , error at flashing raw file
Hello ! I've tried to unlock bootloader at first and succeeded in that when i was on the lollipop . Unlocking is done by the unlock tool provided by the ASUS Officials.
Then i flashed the cynogen 12.1 unofficial via a boot.img , atwrp v3.img & a system.img.
Everything was fine until i needed to revert back to stock firmware.
And also everytime when i try to boot into recovery via Power & volume (-) button , it boots into system.
I used "adb reboot recovery" to boot into twrp recovery .
So, to revert back i saw a method in which we flash a raw firmware , and i downloaded a 4.0.3 for Asus Zenfone 4.
But after flashing it , the bootloader i unlocked , got locked by itself (means i can open droid boot but cannot modify boot and recovery partition via "fastboot flash boot boot.img" & "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" ).
I can only flash system via " fastboot flash system system.img".
I tried to unlock it on Jelly Bean but no success.
Also i tried updating the firmawre via OTA and flashing zip in recovery mode but i was not able to boot into recovery mode, even with "adb reboot recovery".
It always ends up with a reboot , then booting into a 'Android logo for 200 to 300 millisec' , & then boot into system.
Then i found a KitKat firmware raw file , but when i flashed it via AFT 1.0.0.0 , it always gives error "no space left for flashing modem binary".
I tried "fastboot erase data" ,"fastboot erase userdata" ,"fastboot erase cache" , & "fastboot erase system" , but ended up with stock rom with no modem binary.
So , i tried to unlock the bootloader again by the "unlock tool" provided by ASUS , but even after connected to a high speed Wifi , It gives connection error and rest of the other things are working fine like browser etc.
I also tried to flash the modem.zip inside the stock firmware zip via fastboot as : "fastboot flash update modem.zip. It has flashed the zip but still no modem binary.
Then i tried to flash the bin file inside the modem.zip as : fastboot flash radio radio_firmware.bin and it gives error : No space left for flashing modem binary.
Now i have a bootloader (locked) but no recovery and a stock firmware with no modem binary.

@Varun Sehdev, I always flashed the stock ROW firmware using the AFT 1.0.0 and never had any such problems. You can try renaming the row file such that its name doesn't have any spaces. Sometimes things as small as this are the real culprit.
Also, if you can boot into system then you should not bother about unlocking bootloader or anything. Just use the phone till you can because the development, which I never felt there was in the first place, has been left more than a year ago. So there's nothing to dream of.

it worked!!!!
thankz a lot..

You're not supposed to clear /system.Anyway, Looking at your screenshots seems like you've lost recovery.
So flash CWM recovery through fastboot [ here is the Link]
Then flash any custom rom upon that.
If the above solution doesnt work out, then Flash lollipop from SP Flash tool [ LINK ] .Make sure you read flashing instructions properly this time.
Hope it works! Cheers!
When I choose fastboot .. Fastboot mode gets hanged.. Please find the attachment

Its not hanged. Keeping your phone in FASTBOOT MODE ( which you did in that screenshot ) , then through your PC you have to flash recovery(following the link for flashing CWM recovery). If this process seems to be complicated, try alternative soln i.e, Flash Stock ROM via SP Flash Tool.

flash a stock rom and everything will be back as it was. dont worry its very hard to brick a mtk device
it seems like you have no idea what you are doing, so no wonder you end up breaking your phone. next time read the instructions carefully and then watch a youtube video before doing it. actually watching a video is better than reading.

Flash userdata.img using fastboot and mounting data error will go. Similarly flash system.img and other images using fastboot commands and your device will run as usual. All img's will be in stock firmware ( sp tools flashable). Of you can directly flash your mobile through sp flash tools and ur device will be up and running. You may loose your imei but it can be easily fixed.

I'm pretty new at this. Doesn't flashing require an unlocked bootloader? Most of what I read seems to indicate so, but maybe not on some devices? Can someone clarify?

Flashing any non-stock .img or zip requires unlocked bootloader. This guide will never work. It seems this guy made two accounts, one for writing the guide and one for posting that it worked. The OP is just trying to fool people, or may be he himself got fooled by somebody and he posted that guide here. Mods, This thread should be deleted.
Edit : Sorry for updating too late. This method works on locked bootloader. The img files are provided by a genius shakalaka. They are patched to match Asus signed img files. Thanks for writing this useful thread
Also confirmed working on ZE-551KL on my phone and my wife's phone!
Thank You!
Please most definitely follow this step: 4- When it said "finished" and there is no error. Then type this and press volume - (down) before screen lit up.
Code:
fastboot reboot
Definitely do the "Press volume down button" right after you hit (Enter)

Hello sir can u make avideo iam urgent for root please
No idea how this works
I have no idea how, but it worked! I (mostly) agree with sziraqui that flashing a recovery image with the device locked shouldn't work: I tried it before and the device would not load the bootloader after flashing, forcing me to re-flash the stock bootloader.
As mentioned by the OP, after flashing the marshmallow firmware (UL-Z00L-WW-21.40.1220.1708-user.zip) the unlock app crashed when unlocking. After that, I tried to flash TWRP and to my surprise it DID work! I also managed to flash supersu and test it with TitaniumBackup.
Since I would be skeptic myself, I'm attaching a picture that show's twrp and my terminal showing the that the bootloader reports as being locked.
I'm using marshmallow on my ZenFone 2 laser user_21.40.1220.1877 the latest stock firmware I'm not able to unlock it when I enter this command "fastboot boot ze550kltwrp.img in command prompt keeping my device into fastboot mode it shows error "you need to unlock your device to use this command"

INTRODUCTION
I'm providing a set of files that allow you to unlock your bootloader or recover from the closest thing you can get to a hard brick.
MiFlash is capable of flashing anything to your phone while it is in Emergency Download mode.
Yes, this is voodoo magic and it works! Recover from any and all bricks! Some might call it necromancy.
However, it can be also be used even if the device is perfectly alright to simplify upgrading procedures and make ROM flashing fairly painless.
This is for A2017U (North America) and A2017 (China) models only! Do not attempt this on A2017G.
INSTRUCTIONS
If you are flashing TWRP on a locked bootloader, you must first enable OEM unlocking on your device.
You can do this by navigating to Settings -> About phone -> Tap "Build number" 7 times.
Now navigate to Settings -> Advanced settings -> Developer options -> Enable "OEM unlocking".
Follow the steps below with the FASTBOOT_UNLOCK package first, then go into fastboot mode and use the
"fastboot oem unlock" command to unlock (and wipe) your device. Download adb and fastboot below.
Install the Qualcomm QUSB_BULK drivers from below.
You should be able to simply extract them, then right click qcser.inf and press Install.
If you don't have this option, then use devmgmt.msc (Device Manager) to update the driver after entering EDL mode by
selecting manual install and browsing to the qcser.inf file there.
Once the drivers are installed, your device should be recognized as a COM port called "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008".
Now install MiFlash (download below).
Open MiFlash and use the [select] button to select the A2017U_*_EDL folder package that you wish to flash.
Boot into EDL mode. (hold Volume Up + Volume Down + Power until you're stuck on a black screen)
Now just hit [flash] - watch the progress bars move and wait for the device row to turn green with flash complete!
If you are flashing TWRP, use the [Power] + [Volume Up] key combo to exit EDL mode and enter recovery. Release the keys when you see the ZTE logo.
You must have an unlocked bootloader to enter TWRP!
If the flash fails or is unable to communicate with the device, use the [Power] + [Volume Up] + [Volume Down] key combo to restart EDL mode.
Release the keys after 5 seconds then wait another 5 seconds before using the [refresh] or [flash] buttons on MiFlash.

Using this, you should safely be able to recover from any brick!
Once in TWRP, you can flash a full OTA or restore your backups and be on your way.
It is tested and working on Windows 10 64-bit.
All zips are signed with Android SignApk and can be verified with TWRP. (they won't install, just say it's not a valid zip after verifying)
A2017 (China) can use this to convert their phone to A2017U if they want. DO NOT flash on A2017G.
POSSIBLE ISSUES & SOLUTIONS
OTA update zips may fail in stock recovery even after flashing FULL EDL packages. This is because MiFlash does not erase blocks before writing the system image. You can run this command from TWRP terminal or adb shell to erase system partition before flashing the EDL package:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/system bs=272144
Once this is done, OTA zips should succeed in stock recovery after flashing a FULL EDL package.

It will work on Nougat, however, you will end up on B29 bootloader. You'll need to flash B29 full and upgrade again.
I am having some weird issues with Nougat boot stack flashing + TWRP so I'll hold off on posting a B15-NEW version of this for now.
Update: You can now flash the B15-NEW TWRP package instead.

N BootStack from LineageOS thread can be use for this if you want to give a try, instead of B29.
The stack is from a zip N file (I can't disclose right now) and is full N stack, minus Boot and System of course.
P.S. be advice that " keymaster.mbn " file flashes to " xlbbak " partition. Or just check the updater_script for N changes.
Situation: A2017U full stock in Nougat no unlocked bootloader, no root
Want to: Install LOS because i HATE this bullsh... called MIFAidonotknowWTF
Can i use this procedure to do that?
Thanks a LOT
So basically, MiFlash just lets you firehose in any file to a QualComm device from EDL mode? That's pretty handy.
I assume the TWRP image will only work on an unlocked bootloader device, right?
Then again, I don't see why a locked bootloader device would get in such a bricked state in the first place.

It is softbrickable by adb commands... I have one device in boot loop.
trying to wrap my head around this whole bootstack/fastboot issue we have with the a7.
So in theory one could use this tool and then unlock (or just have working fastboot) directly from b15?
Then download the bootstack from los thread and be good to go? Or would that bork fastboot again...
I think I am currently running b20 bootstack on b15 by flashing draken's unlock zip without issue (that I know of) but am considering flashing the N version from los thread.
This thing works, guys! OMGOMGOMG! :highfive::laugh:
My device was in a "heavily bricked" state. No LED light on connect and permanent EDL mode. I am now fully functional after trying EVERYTHING but this.

step 2.5) reboot to bootloader from recovery
step 4) wipe system in twrp
step 6) use the [Format Data] button on wipe page of twrp (lineageOS may not be compatible with your current encryption, this will wipe all your settings and internal storage)
and yes that's everything, I believe.
Sticky. Nuff said.
Dev is finally taking off on this phone, thanks to literally 4 or 5 key people. I was afraid I'd made a mistake purchasing instead of O+3, but has worked out well.
Thanks for all your help in your free time.

Thanks buddy, that keymaster -> xblbak appears to have been my issue! So illogical.
I compiled applypatch and used that to apply the B29_TO_B15-NEW .p files to my B29 binaries so they should be nice and exact. (sha1 matches from updater-script)
I can provide a full B15-NEW verity/OTA update friendly package if somebody wants. Just let me know.
Flash Done.
But i can't join to TWRP, it just turn it self off.

If you are not unlocked you now need to go to fastboot mode and unlock before you can enter TWRP.
If you just mean the screen is still black, you have to hold volume + power up after flashing until it starts up, then let go when you see the ZTE logo.
Hi @jcadduono
I'm about to get my A7 (A2017U version) in few days. Would you please advise which method/process/steps is the best to upgrade to stock, rooted and fastboot working N B15 build?
Thanks

Because it had been reported that this was impossible, or at least very difficult, I wanted to clarify whether this means people with locked bootloader running N can now unlock and install TWRP?

(1st check whether all driver's are installed properly)
Do you hear connecting or disconnecting sounds, after connecting your device to pc? (without battery)
If yes then choose upgrade firmware
If no then your system board is dead
By mistake I have flashed the stock rom using sp flash tool in this condition: "Unable to mount /system/data/cache in custom recovery" .
And now it is booting, not even the boot logo is appearing.

I would like to thank TeamWin for their amazing work!
I saw that the newer Samsung MediaTek phones were not getting any sort of love, so I bought one myself to kick start the development.
TWRP is the obvious choice as it is reliable and trustworthy with frequent updates and patches.
INSTALLATION:
Odin Method (Windows):
Step 0: Unlock Device Bootloader by toggling the OEM Unlock option in Developer Options. Device will reboot to Odin mode and will prompt you to long press volume up, device will then unlock bootloader and perform a complete factory reset so make sure to backup any data.
Step 1: Download the unofficial TWRP image from the link attached below.
Step 2: Put the device in Odin download mode by holding VolumeUp+VolumeDown and inserting USB cable after the device is completely shut down.
Step 3: Select the downloaded recovery.tar in AP slot and vbmeta_disabled_R.tar in USERDATA slot, connect the device to PC, go to options and untick "Auto-Reboot"
Step 4: Click START and the Device will get flashed, Odin will say SUCESS!.
Step 5. Exit Download mode by holding VolumeDown+PowerButton and then immediately boot
into Recovery mode by pressing VolumeUp+PowerButton.
Step 6: Congratulations, you have installed TWRP latest for your M32 4G, to access the system now, you need to perform some additional steps.
Step 7: Open up TWRP terminal and then type in "multidisabler" and then perform a full factory reset again by going into "Wipe" -> Format Data -> type "yes"
Step 8: Now stock ROM should work fine with TWRP!
Heimdall Method (Linux):
Step 1: Install heimdall tool on linux , google it.
Step 2: Put the device in Odin download mode by holding VolumeUp+VolumeDown and inserting USB cable after the device is completely shut down.
Step 3: Open up terminal in the downloaded TWRP directory, extract twrp image from recovery.tar
Step 4: Enter the command "heimdall flash --RECOVERY recovery.img --no-reboot" where twrp.img is name of the downloaded image
COMPATIBILITY:
TWRP Recovery is compatible with latest Android 11 firmware
tested on:
M325FXXU3AUK1, M325FXXU4AVB1 as well
First time you boot into TWRP, don't forget to backup your EFS, Secondary EFS and NVRAM! Go into Backup and select "EFS,", "Secondary EFS" and "NVRAM" and backup to preferably MicroSDcard and copy it to your PC in case you need it if IMEI corrupts.
DON'T IGNORE THIS STEP!
