Snapchat on rooted phones with xposed - Xposed General

As you all know, snapchat does not work on rooted phones anymore... Wrong! It doesn't work on phones with xposed framework, at least upon logging in.
steps (modified and simplified)
a. uninstall xposed framework (ROOT DOES NOT MATTER, HAVING THE XPOSED APP ALSO DOES NOT MATTER, MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT HAVE THE FRAMEWORK INSTALLED) before installing snapchat then do a fresh install of snapchat. Only disabling the xposed module=fail
b. log in into snapchat whithout having the xposed framework installed.
c. after logging in, install the framework back
voila, now you have all the xposed functions plus snapchat working just fine
Goodluck!

As you all know, snapchat does not work on rooted phones anymore... Wrong! It doesn't work on phones with xposed framework. I kept searching for a solution and all i found was rootcloack to hide root. It's good, but snapchat actually checks for xposedbridge.jar. I disabled the framework in xposed and snapchat worked without any mods and even with root. You can find rootcloack in xposedrepo.
steps
All in all, in order for snapchat to work (tested on lastest snapchat) you need to use rootcloack as follows:
1. install it and activate it under modules in xposed- then restart the phone
2.(i assume you have snapchat installed, if you do, clear data just in case) go to rootcloack,
3. under add/remove apps, click on 3 dots and "reset to default"
still in add/remove apps, add snapchat using +
4 under add/remove keywords and comands (do the same for both) add Xposedbridge.jar XposedBridge Snapprefs.apk Snapprefs (last 2 only if you have snapprefs module and you want to have no problems)
5. add the same commands to add/remove comands
done.

Another solution is to login before installing xposed and then you'll be all gravy. I just did this 10 min ago and can confirm it works.

Mine works just fine.

This method doesn't work for me.

I found a work around for it my phone died and I signed into my sc from another device used it and logged off when I tried signing in on my phone I got temp login failure notice this is what I did to get back on:
On a second device, download latest version and sign into Snapchat
Once done, root second device and download titanium backup
Make a back up of Snapchat from second device and send the .tibkp back up or whatever to the first device
On first device download latest version of snapchat and titanium back up and restore the data only from the file you sent to the first device from the second device
Once done use sc like normal
Works fine unless you sign out from Snapchat on the second device so what I did is I froze Snapchat on the second device and erased the back up.
BTW I used a Samsung tablet as a second device and s6 edge for first device

Wound up installing Snapchat on another device, doing a backup with Titanium Backup, and restoring the backup to my primary device. I could not get the Root Cloak method to work.

Rooting phone.
Hi I got a question. I have a LG G stylo and I really want to change my emojis to the IoS 9 emojis. I was wondering if I installed king root and emoni switcher will it stop me from getting on Snapchat since Snapchat blocks Snapchat rooted users. Please let me know and I'm kinda scared to do this because I don't want to be able to get on Snapchat anymore. Also, if I delete the root app, will it be officially unroofed?thank you.

easiest thing to do is, make a TB backup of snapchat of you logged in.. that way if you get logged out you can restore the app data from back up and you are logged in again.
If you get logged out and do not have a backup, you have to uninstall xposed, login to snapchat, make a TB backup, install xposed and boom you are good to go.. no need for rootcloak.

the best solution is to install xposed uninstaller in your custom recovery mode if you want to login to snapchat in a rooted and xposed device. you can install xposed framework after you log in.

Hey everyone.
I have a few problems with this... First when I try to uninstall xposed framework, my phone will not boot. I have a xperia z5 premium, running RomAur.
Second, when I try to do a backup with Titanium backup from another device, snapchat will not start and instantly crashes upon launch after being restored on my z5p.
Any pointers?

ps. the problem is not the root or the xposed app installed, its the xposedbridge.jar which changes the code in the framework, snapchat sees that and crashes the application upon logging in, then the popular "can't log in"

I'm using an android emulator called AmiDUOS, it runs android 5.1.1. Blue stacks doesn't work for me.
I actually got snapchat working on AmiDUOS one point, I was rooted so used an app to freeze supersu so it wouldn't be detected, allowing me to log in but I got logged out and this way isn't working for me anymore. I've used rootcloak to cloak snapchat and supersu but with no avail. Do you have any idea what is triggering snapchat to think I'm rooted? Maybe they don't like that I'm using an emulator? Can I hide this?
Thank you

I tried the method given here bu could no log into snapchat, i also tried uninstalling xposed and backing up data using titanium backup. Is there another way to log in?

No Luck. I uninstall the framework (but the installer app is still there, that a problem?), reboot, install Snapchat fresh, try to sign in and get the same "Oh no! Your login temporarily failed, so please try again later." message.
I'll try with titanbackup on my old phone later tonight to see if I can just copy it over like that.
Edit: I created a new Snapchat account with xposed framework uninstalled and it let me in. Seems like they are flagging accounts that try to login with xposed installed and/or root?

Omg :silly: sorry haha

Just to add my experience - I was unable to get the root cloak method to work. I already had xposed and snapchat installed, and removing xposed seems risky so I didn't want to go that route. No matter how I set up root cloak, ensuring to wipe snapchat's data in between, it still wouldn't let me log in.
I resorted to logging in on my old phone and backing up snapchat + its data with titanium backup. It works like a charm. Good thing I have old android phones laying around!

[How-to] Getting Snapchat to login when its rooted. (10 Steps)

So I recently searched and searched and followed many guides but nothing worked.
Although, I just replaced a few steps and got everything working.
Can even install Snapchat after Xposed.
Requires just a PC/Laptop/Mac
and of course your phone of choice.
Step 1: Download BlueStacks 2 Latest
Step 2: Download B.S Helper
Step 3: Install BlueStacks
Step 4: Install SnapChat on BlueStacks
Step 5: Login on BlueStacks SnapChat
Step 6: Open BS Helper and "Click Patch For Super X"
Step 7: Backup Snapchat with Titanium Backup
Step 8: Transfer Backup to Phone
Step 9: Restore Backup
Step 10: Enjoy!
Hope this helps someone who needs it before they hassle with uninstalling and reinstalling Roms/Xposed/Snap and all the other various things I wasted hours on!
After my 10 posts are up I will update with links
Nice.
Once Snapchat is backed up with TiBu one should never have any problems after that.
I first backed up Snapchat in 2013. To this day I have never had to worry about logins. App has been restored, updated (to match Snapprefs mostly), backed up again (of course), and run on a slew of ROMs from JellyBean to Nougat.
Actually I don't have a clue as to what my login is. Backup is key.
LG G3 D851, SlimSaber LP ROM, MultiROM, Tapatalk 4.9.5
I recent upgraded phone's and restore from the TiBu still would not let me in. I'm thinking the backup version I used was from a too old of version.
I am using a systemless root + xposed on my phone. I was able to just overwrite the boot partition in twrp ( unroot ), login to snapchat, and restore the boot partition with the rooted version. It only takes about 2 minutes, assuming you make a backup of the boot partition from before you rooted.
@gustden, pretty good tip. Saved. Just in case my luck runs out.
There is one other thing. Not sure if it applies to Snapchat in particular, I always use the same device ID on all ROMs. Actually carried over from my old Samsung from a couple of years ago.
Some app data is tied to the device used when a backup was made. The Line app for instance. Long time ago I ran it on a ROM where I forgot to change the ID. Line detected a new device and gave me the hardest time. It even "threatened" to remove all existing data/chats/messages. I got it squared away after awhile but it was close.
I multiboot and run multiple ROMs and did not want that to happen on each.
But anyway, I wonder if Snapchat is somewhat similar. Restoring a backup on a new ROM but still having issues with logins.
I guess I can test that and see what happens.

Personal opinion - Magisk v11.1 with Systemless Xposed installed. All I have to do is toggle Xposed's switch, reboot, login to Snapchat, toggle Xposed on, then reboot. Takes about 3 minutes tops.
Thanks!
Wow thanks! You have no idea how many methods I tried trying to get snapchat to work before finding your solution.
WHAT IS B.S Helper??Please 1 downl. ink?
So, I just tried this.... AND IT WORKS!
Here's the links since OP can't post any:
Bluestacks DL (windows)
Bluestacks tweaker root tool 2 (DL is in the youtube description)
Now, what I did is copy the titanium backup using FX File Explorer to my Google drive, then transfered the files from Drive to my phone.
Perfect! Thanks for the solution mate!
I followed original post, with some difficulty because BS Helper was a chore to find, but am wondering where the TiBu of Snapchat on Bluestacks is stored so I can transfer ans restore it on my phone.
Thanks!

Hey, I was in your position and used multiple methods from above to get it to work.
After backing up and getting root on the virtual thing, download fx file manager (or any) and go to sdcard/titaniumbackup and copy all three things for Snapchat from there.
After that, go to system/bstsharedfiles or something like that and paste it in there. Sorry I got the name incorrect, I'll correct it in the morning. After that, go to the drive you installed BlueStacks to, and open programdata (only visible if you show hidden files), then you go to Bluestacks, then shared folder, then userdata, and then copy the backup files and transfer them in whichever way you prefer. I personally used Google drive and then used a file manager to take them from my downloads to the titaniumbackup folder in my sdcard directory, which then enables me to just open the app and restore.
I hope I helped, sorry if I got any information incorrect, it's quite late where I am and I'm not on my PC. Best of luck!

Thank you very much, OP. Works like charm. Maybe you should expand the part about transfering the backup done with Titanium Backup on the PC side with BlueStacks to the phone since I had to dig a little to find out. Basically you need to install a file explorer on BlueStacks, then move the Titanium Backup folder to the common folder between your computer and BlueStacks (/sdcard/windows/BstSharedFolder) in order to finally being able to transfer your file from your PC to your smartphone.
It keeps giving me the error "Oh no! Your login temporarily failed, so please try again later."

Snapchat

I've been using snapchat on my Rooted, Xposed, Snapprefs S7 for a little while with no issues.
A while back I logged out, and couldn't login. I took a titanium backup from a Samsung tablet, restored it do my device and all worked
This no longer seems to work, after restoring I now get a 'could not refresh data' message in snapchat and it goes back to the login screen.
So after a bit of reading it seems that to login normally again you need to remove xposed by flashing the uninstall.zip. - This didn't work.
I ended up resetting my device, which removed root access. Now I can login.
To reapply root I used this guide - http://mobilesiri.com/galaxy-s7-edge-exynos-root/ and do nothing else, snapchat stays logged in. but if I logout, I get a login error message.
So It looks like snapchat is detecting root? not only xposed.
On top of this the Titanium backup method no longer seems to work..
If a take a backup when logged in to snapchat, logout and restore the backup. I get the familiar 'could not refresh data' message and back to the login screen.
This is with no xposed, only root.
All tested with Snapchat 9.39.5.0 (the snapprefs supported version)
Xposed requires root, doesn't it? I believe they moved from detecting Xposed to detecting root, killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

Yes you could be right, but as I'm using the same version of Snapchat (9.39.5.0) it must be server side?
It previously worked on this same version.
I'd check it out, but I've started using Magisk and never went back to anything else... Maybe you should give it a shot? [emoji14]

In my side I did have to unroot my op3 then sing in. With the latest snapchat version.. Then I root and install Titanium backup and create a back up but also I create another profile for the snapchat because I use 2 snapchat.. Again need to unroot but before that I change profile to the new one so when I unroot and boot my phone again I can login w my other user. After that just root uninstall snapchat sideload the correct version for snappreff and on Titanium just hit snapchat and do restore data only.

Any idea why multiple profiles aren't working for me? I switch to Profile#1 via a TB widget, open Snapchat, and it's not logged in. Same if I switch to any other Profile. If I restore data (only), I'm logged in and that data stays intact, even when I switch profiles. It stays logged in on that name. The profiles were created correctly and each /data was assigned correctly to the respective profiles... it just won't switch as I believe it's supposed to.

The widget stop working for me and mess up my profile. You should try to change the profile over within the Titanium app and if don't work try to restore again the data of the apps in each profile. That's my best guess to try.

+1 for Magisk, it's the bees knees

Any Snapchat Incompatibility?

Both me and my friend's Snapchats are crashing before it even opens. Only things we have in common is that both of us are using latest Android (through Custom ROMs, but they're not the same), latest TWRP and Magisk. I use AICP and he uses TeslaOS.
No, for me it works fine. Latest magisk

I am having a similar problem, as of 8/15/17 snapchat on the latest update is not working on my phone.
I have a rooted oneplus 3t with supersu and twrp, some side apps like flashify, root explorer, etc I cant seem to find the app or program that is triggering snapchat's safety feature causing it to repeatedly crash and not let you log in. I also currently do not have magisk.
from some searching it seems some people were able to solve this problem by unrooting and uninstalling magisk modules from their phone, or by using a root hide module from magisk.
Im not an expert but I plan to try the magisk root hide thing and if that doesnt work, do a full nandroid backup and re add one thing back at a time from titanium backup until I find what is causing the problem. there may also be modded snapchat apks out there that bypasses that error but I haven't checked yet. I'm still a noob at this so I would greatly appreciate any help or insight by anyone who's dealt with this problem before!
Try clearing cache/data for Snapchat. It was working fine for me yesterday, but this afternoon I randomly started getting force closes. After clearing cache/data and signing back in it works fine. I highly doubt it's a Magisk issue.
Also, Snapchat was an example, other apps, like Kung Fury: Street Rage, crash too, but only Snapchat actually gives the crash message, the others just keep closing

Snapchat has root/tampering detection. Can't help there (since I don't use Snapchat)...
Kung Fury does not have root detection (I just tested it). If a bunch of apps are crashing/force closing when you have Magisk installed (and MagiskHide active), your ROM might have an issue with WebView. Hard to know without a logcat from the crash though... If it is WebView, installing Chrome Beta and choosing it as your WebView implementation might fix it.

Changing WebView to Chrome Beta didn't solve it. How do I get a logcat of the crash?

Snapchat has root/tampering detection. Can't help there (since I don't use Snapchat)...
Kung Fury does not have root detection (I just tested it). If a bunch of apps are crashing/force closing when you have Magisk installed (and MagiskHide active), your ROM might have an issue with WebView. Hard to know without a logcat from the crash though... If it is WebView, installing Chrome Beta and choosing it as your WebView implementation might fix it.

snap only utilizes safetynet during login.
Hello Man, i have the same problem on aicp. I have install another rom (CRdroid) and it's work like a charm. I think magisk is not fully compatible with all ROMs. Send a message to the dev of ur ROM for know it.
All apps started working after I uninstalled magisk

I just re-read your first post... Does MagiskHide even work on your device? Can you pass SafetyNet or hide root from a root app (by adding it to the Hide list)?

When I tried, I could pass Pokémon GO's safetynet. In Snapchat case, when the problem was safetynet, it loaded but I couldn't log in, this time it simply didn't open at all, when the app tried to launch it immediately closed and showed a crash message.

Did you ever find a fix for Snapchat?

Magisk Hide not working for Pokemon Go

I'm using a Galaxy S8, Android 7.0, Magisk 16.6. When I try to play Pokemon go, it gives me the "OS not supported" message. The 16.3 fix didn't work back when it came out and I haven't been able to play since then. I did check the app in Magisk Hide and I activated the setting to hide Magisk Manager with a random package name, but it still doesn't work. Is there anything else I should do?
The only thing you can do that will work is to completely uninstall magisk. That should let you play pokemon go.
Pokemon also looks for a bunch of known root apps on your device, not only Magisk. And MagiskHide can't hide other apps.

There are a whole bunch... Busybox installers, system cleaners, etc. There's an old list available somewhere in the Magisk PoGo thread (search), but that list might be outdated. Easiest thing is to uninstall some root apps and see if it works better.
An easier alternative, if you have the means to do it, is to use a clean spare phone/tablet for Pokemon Go, and keep your phone how you need/want it for everything else. Bluetooth data sharing is enough bandwidth to make PoGo work.
PoGo 0.115.3 not working, no login

Sure.
Make sure you have Pokemon on the Hide list.
Hide the Magisk Manager (in the Manager settings)
Delete the MagiskManager folder on your internal storage (next time you download/install a module through the Manager the folder will be recreated).
Edit: There will likely be an update to Magisk that will hide the MagiskManager folder. But for now this is a workaround.

Hmmm, tried all this, but still PoGo will not comply, even when I sandbox it in the work profile. (island app) The latter sounds a bit strange to me, as it should limit access to anything. (Magisk Manager gets installed, but is hidden)
To be honest, PoGo is just a test for when they start messing with Ingress as well. When it's getting to much trouble to have the app behave, it's out. They are just games, nothing to compromise my device for.
Also rename or delete every file or folder on your internal storage / sdcard that contains "magisk"

Any file? Not only the directory, but one that can be found somewhere on the device/external sdcard? (Like Magisk-v16.7.zip which you need to install it...)
Strange it should see it when sandboxed.
You can try, someone else said so, I did also do it and had no problem anymore so far.
But you should be right, that when its sandboxed it should not see it anyways...

Before using the hide magisk manager option, make sure magisk manager is NOT a system app. This will successfully repack magisk manager.
Then delete magisk fodler from internal storage and hide PoGO.

May be other ROMs come with integrated Magisk. That was the case in mine. Convert it to user app first.
Then try magisk hide again and look for the package name in app info (It should be something random). Then continue with other steps as it is and it should work fine.
Let us know how it goes
Hi togehter,
if you use the Fake GPS Route, then uninstall via TWRP Magisk and then works PoGo (new version) perfekt, that works with my Samsung S5
I have a problem with my Samsung S7 edge, if I uninstall Magisk, then I have the problem, that the S7 go to a bootloop <--- Have anyone a idea?
Samsung S7 Edge
6.0.1
SecurePatch 01.12.2016
TWRP Recovery
If I install Magisk again, then boot the Samsung S7 without a bootloop, but then dont work PoGo
Xamel
Uninstall in the magisk app not by flashing a zip in recovery
Before I rooted my XZ premium I played pokemon go Just fine, afer Just enabling developer options (still locked bootloader and not rooted) it did not work Annymore, switching off developer options fixed pokemon go again.
Now with properly rooted Phone with magisk busybox, and whole bunch of rooted apps I am stuck as wel.... bonkers!!! !!
Could someone find a solution?

Debloater

I'm using Andorid Q custom rom and rooted.
I'm not able to uninstall or remove stock google apps from Titanium backup like earlier. It says apk not found for any system app.
Then tried Magiks Debloater and removed Youtube.
Now whenever I try to flash YtVanced via TWRP it says flashed but when I boot to phone I cant find youtube yt vanced.
Whats wrong?
Also, is "/system/product/priv-app" or "/system/priv-app" somethign new path which got introduced in Android Q ? As seems due to this Titanium backup is failing and google made it real hard to remove such apps.
Sorry for being brief, but it sounds like you're using the systemless debloater module. The way this module works is by not *actually* removing the system apks from their directory/folder, but that it writes a systemless "blank" space, which tricks your phone into thinking the app is not installed. That said, the root version of Vanced is named to mimic the package name of the regular YouTube app (same name, so that other apps that would call up YouTube can call up Vanced, instead). If you "debloated" YouTube, then essentially, the debloater is tricking your phone into thinking it (re: Vanced) isn't there. If you were to re-enable the YouTube package name, then it *should* pop back up.
