Added a minimalist dbrand skin on my 5x - Nexus 5X Accessories

This was my first time ever applying a phone skin. I got this one from dbrand. All I bought was a white backing piece, black nexus letters, and the colored nexus X. It cost about $12. My order arrived about 4-5 business days after I submitted it (mailed from Toronto). The backside of my phone is naturally white, so it is a white skin on a white backing. It took about 30 minutes, with the most difficult part being getting the letters and the colors of the nexus X to go into the cutout of the white backing. Overall I'm pretty happy with the results. I'm a little worried about the colored x parts staying in, but we'll see how they hold up. If you casually glanced at the backing you would not realize it is not part of the phone. Once you start focusing intently and looking at it from 8 inches away you can discern pretty clearly that the letters are stickers.

Looks good! I'd have to meditate for half an hour to steady my hands before I tried to install one lol.

Dope! Makes me want to keep my 5x and get rid of the 6P.

Can you comment on how it's been? Is it slippery? I've read that it picks up lint easily from pockets as well.

I have not found it to be any more slippery than the naked back of the phone. In fact it might be a little more grippy than the natural back, which I found to be a little slippery.
I can't comment on lint. Have not seen any lint picked up, but I have a TPU case over the skin now, and it sits on my desk for most of the day.
I put a nilken clear TPU case on the phone. I will take a picture and upload later. Really happy with the case & skin combo. You can easily read the "nexus" lettering through the phone case and I've had a few people ask about it. I can lay it face down with the case on and enjoy the skin.
Also handed my phone to someone who had an iPhone 4 and he said that the nexus was one of the smoothest functioning phones he had ever used. Granted he's comparing versus a older iPhone, but I took it as a positive.

I suppose it's got to be pretty hard to capture the texture in the photo without a great macro lens, but would you say the feel is better than before? I keep having this bad feeling that the white of the back is going to get really dirty and want to cover it up.

With the skin on, the phone has more grip to it (my subjective opinion). I thought the original back felt a bit slippery and wasn't the best quality (previous phone was an HTC One), so adding the skin made the feel better for me.
I'm not sure about dirt. The dbrand site says they use 3M vinyl, which is also used to wrap cars, so I'd assume the vinyl is designed to resist dirt and staining, but that's only a guess.

Ebay TPU Smoked Case

I have bought the Dark Smoke TPU case for the Droid Incredible. I am very Pleased with this case. I had came from a Silicone Case with very bad experiences.
PROS
Lightweight
Doesn't stick to pocket
Nice design
Cons
Attracts scratches easy
I just got my TPU case in the mail yesterday, black with smoked back. Here's my take on it:
I already had one of those black silicone hard rubber-ish feeling cases on my phone and I liked it, but it had kind of a honeycome back and I couldn't see the back of the phone like the words HTC and my little droid eating an apple sticker, so I bought a TPU smoked case.
I like how I can see through the smoke
I like how the rubber-ish silicone part of the TPU case is just like my old case
I don't like how the buttons on the case take more pressing than my old case did to activate the phone's button underneath. My old case had little indents underneath the case buttons so it made pressing the buttons easier.
The hybrid smoked backing does scratch easy. So far I have one day of use on it, and already I'm getting typical scuffs and scratches all over it
I'm thinking my old case offers a little more protection than this new TPU case
I like the price of the TPU case, set my back 6 bucks shipped
I like how it fits like a glove
I like the hard backing idea they have and being able to see through the smoke
Overall, I'd buy another TPU case if need be, but if they start offering my old case with a non-honeycome more see-through backing, although not a completely hard backing like the TPU case, I'd buy one of those first.
pictures??
sure just gotta charge my camera and I'll post a couple. I gotta say, taking a picture of the incredible...without using the incredible...presented me with a slight problem for a moment haha.
Any pics yet?

That case looks nice. It doesn't have the bubble texture the vzm case has.

I've had it for a long time. Only thing I don't like is that its harder to put on/off than silicone. Doesn't add much bulk and liking the fact that you see through the back

Ordering one of these to modify for use with the 2150 mAh extended battery. I'll post pics of my mod when I'm done. Thanks for the review, this thing is dirt cheap and still hard plastic. Stoked.

I'm thinking of a new option since the silicone sticks in the pocket and attracts the lint too xD if I can find a case like this cheap then I'm sold
I have one of these and it didnt get along with my Zagg screen protector edges. So I left the case off. The screen is worth more than the case.

I ordered the same case, but was white, and I hated it, to install, or remove it, the phone has to "give" just a little, also the front sides of the phone's touch screen are hard to get to and you have to push the case out of the way. Also found power/lock buttons, and volume buttons were hard to press. I ordered another that looks just like it, but has no hard plastic, and i love it!
Also, I bought the case for 7.95 free shipping off ebay, they have the black case, and the clear case for under 7

I got this case over a month ago and so far I'm very happy with it. I used to be an OtterBox lover but the silicon and plastic just made it feel cheap and weak. The CandyShell Case is the best of both worlds for me. It's a strong hard shell with a soft silicon gel inside but its also one piece. So no pieces of plastic or silicon bend like on the OtterBox products (specifically the commuter case). I don't work in a heavy machinery environment or do much stuff like that so this case does the job and keeps my phone in one piece the way it should be.
I have dropped the phone with the case on only once, so far, and it was while I was getting out the car and it fell face first and since the edges are raised above the screen nothing was damaged on the phone except the screen protector was slightly scuffed. Overall I'm very satisfied with the case. Couldn't ask for any more than this!
More pics attached. If anyone has any questions let me know. I work at AT&T so I've got more cases here like the Otterbox Defender & Commuter, Speck Cases, and also a Black TPP Leather Case. I'll upload pics if need be.
Next thing on my list:
- Dock
I've had mines for a little over a month and now it seems the top edges are all scratched up and the area near where you plug in the charger is about to rip apart (the bridge area). I'm trying to do a warranty claim, this case doesn't seem to hold up as well as I thought.
im constantly taking my phone in and out of the case so my case bridge area (near the charger port) is not showing any problems of wear and tear. I always put the phone in from the bridge side first and then squeeze the rest of it in. and the scratches happen. its not scratch proof.
How is the volume rocker with this case? Does it "protect" it more? I find that with my "naked" Vivid, I am always maxing or muting the volume by accicent from just handling the phone.

I just picked this up today. It definitely lessens the ease at which you can hit the volume rocker, but not as much as I expected. Still a nice case and it look great with the white Vivid.

I had this case when it first came out. I love the look and protection of it, but the inner soft material is starting to look dry and has these ugly white cracks all along it. Most noticeable on the lip that is around the screen when the case is on.

i liked the white case overall...even after a while it held up well
the lip is fine with me cuz it raises my phone up while its face down
also i returned the case and got an otterbox commuter. its just as good (one of the first good commuters ive used in a while)
but right now im keeping my phone case-less
its so sexy without it but im so scared it might break
I have an Otterbox Commuter currently, and was wondering how my case compares with this one? The top edges of my case are scratched
Finally took the plunge and bought this candyshell today. Pretty great so far. Looks great and makes the phone easier to hold for me.

My only gripe with this case, is the rubber edges the sorround the bezel gets worn and start to look like pencil shavings, i try to remove them by rubbing it with my finger or cloth, bu sometimes it makes it worse. Kinda annoying...

Just wrapped the back of my official Samsung TPU case!

I received my black Samsung TPU case on Saturday. I'm not a fan of glossy black cases; I had a cheap one with my old Atrix a year ago and it ended up getting scratched and scuffed easily through normal everyday use.
I waxed the back of the Samsung case with carnauba car wax before using it. The back of the case started to show some scratches only after a few days of light usage, and it will only get worse. It was also a fingerprint magnet too as some of you guys already pointed out on the Samsung TPU case thread. I could not put the case down on its back without getting scratched over time.
Since I have OCD when it comes to glossy surfaces with scratches and fingerprints, I decided to order some 3M metallic wrap and wrap the back of the case. I tried to order ones as close to the stock titanium grey color as possible.
Here are the materials I ordered; brushed steel and brushed black metallic:

I thought brushed steel color looked closer to the stock titanium grey color so I decided to use that instead. The black metallic actually looks darker in person. It took me about 10 minutes to apply and cut.
Here are my results:
So far, I'm loving it! No finger prints! And based on experience with other 3M products I've used in the past, this shouldn't scratch nearly as easily as the original gloss black finish on the case. The only thing that is bugging me a little bit is that it looks too plain; I need to slap on a sticker or something like that.
What do you guys think?
It's beautiful! I'm not familiar with the metallic wrap...is it actually metal or just metal look? Is it a sticker? I guess i could just Google it...
I love how it looks!

It's actually pretty easy to do. Just apply it on as well as you can by hand, then use a blow dryer to make the material soft and press firmly on the edges so the indents on the edges show up better. Just trace along the edges with an art knife and remove the excess. That's pretty much it.
Very nice job, in deed, and probably going to do it...Since, I cannot find no protection in Hungary, I just used some electrical tape,,yes does not look nice, but, it is protecting the back of the phone
looks good, nice job! I have the same case but have the Seidio surface coming. I did not like the gloss either but it is a surprisingly good TPU case especially for 50% off on the Samsung website.
You can order enough of the 3M Scotchprint 1080 vinyl to cover the back of your phone for $1.99 per sheet + shipping here: http://www.metrorestyling.com/3M-Scotchprint-Series-1080-Brushed-p/smpl1080br.htm
This stuff is marketed to apply to the exterior of cars as a substitute for custom painting. It must be pretty durable if it is expected to hold up to normal road hazards. The samples are described as being 4x8 inch and shipping to my address was just $2
Search on key word "sample" and you can order other colors, styles, makes etc. i.e. carbon fiber, several styles of camouflage, solid colors.
It just occurred to me there is a 50/50 chance whether the grain of the brushed surface may be running in the horizontal or vertical direction. If that matters to you you might want to find a source for a larger piece such as this

This seems like a great inexpensive source for the material. Personally it would matter to me and I would want the grain to run in the long direction from the top to the bottom of the phone. One of us should give them a call and ask if the samples ship in one orientation or if it's random.

Vinyls for Galaxy S6 Edge

Has anyone gotten a vinyl on their phone yet? I have used them many times in the past and I'm super excited about getting one on this phone.
I'm hoping we can get some natural bamboo ones (I'm getting a white phone) and/or some champagne colored ones out there.
Let's post pictures of vinyls, reviews and put recommendations up.

I'm not a huge fan of this style but I think it's pretty well made! I personally more interested in a leather or PU leather one, with this kind of pretty good quality, you may know where I can find it? Thanks
For sure, everyone has their own style. Slickwraps typically has real leather, cork and even football skin versions on this natural series. I'd dig leather too.
i don't get how people have the balls not to put a case on this phone
Lol I've been a long time smart phone owner and have never dropped a phone. That being said I have insurance! I just have a hard time not using it bare. They spend millions in R&D to develop this design and I can't stand putting it in a case. I had a clear TPU on it and I hated after a few weeks. Lol I'm crazy though.

These are port covers I cut off my old Ringke case. I have real dust covers in mail though. Lol

Here's the solid orange Slickwrap color with my Ringke Fusion (case fits very tight.. had to force it on and it caused a few small tears on the sides of the skin). Install was super easy and for the screen protector I just cut a Healing Shield so that it fit perfectly in the opening. If the screen protector covers anything other than the actual screen then it will not work with the front skin.
The only issue I have is getting the corners to sit down on 1 side... I think it will eventually flatten out as long as I hold it in place a few more times. Really liking the look.

I would definitely get a case for this

Went into a tmobile store to see their demo blue coral and noticed a lot of scuff marks on the bottom rear of the phone. I can only assume they've only had this for a a week and it's already this bad. SMH. They are definitely scratches. I tried rubbing it off and ran my nails through it. Rough AF.

Anyone that doesn't immediately get a case for a glass phone, gets what they deserve.
Maybe that's how they made gorilla glass 5 more durable to drops by making it softer. But now more susceptible to scratches.

Speaking of cases, what is everyone planning on getting? I got a cheap Supcase Bettle unicorn, frosted case to begin with. I'll probably get a Spigen Neo hybrid later on.
I'm not going with a case... Toast said they'll have wooden skins ready by the end of the month, so that's what I'm going for.
Maybe leather if they make one. But not metal or plastic.

Ok, looking at that...you convinced me not to use a typical case. What devices have you used this for? How does it protect against drops? I am not one of those who will beat down on their devices but sometimes I do forget it is on my lap while at movie theaters and it will drop....or stepping down from cars. Does it cover all the edges? Looking at the pictures on their websites I can't tell....give me the skinny!

The very edges are slightly visible, but the corners are covered. The sides of the phone are also covered, and they include wooden button caps and camera lens covers. The front isn't covered unless you spend the $10 for a front cover, but if you do then of course the capacitive buttons and fingerprint scanner are left uncovered. The wood isn't thick enough to interfere with usage, thankfully, but it is the thickest and highest quality wood cover I've seen.
I don't have any phones that they make skins for, but I've visited their "factory" in Portland and handled several iPhones and Android phones with their skins attached. They're really nice and high quality, better than similar skins I own for other products.
Take a look at this video for a typical phone installation:
As you can see, nice and easy - just be careful about it, and go slow. It will re-adhere if you mess it up, but the first application is always the strongest by far, and you don't want those edges coming up.
E: I should clarify that you can re-apply in the first 5-10 minutes, but after that the adhesive is 'set' and will not be reusable. It's really strong adhesive, so it isn't going anywhere, but it also does have an oxygen-activated cure.
Skins are a thick sticker and protect as such. They are no replacement for a good case.

Agreed. A skin, even a wooden one, is not a case. They don't offer shatter protection - merely scratch protection. In this case they also make the phone look nicer in my opinion :good:
I would like to mention a small local company. They haven't put out a note 7 case yet. They offer several cases made out of exotic wood, and they look fan-****ing-tastic.

I would like to mention a small local company. They haven't put out a note 7 case yet. They offer several cases made out of exotic wood, and they look fan-****ing-tastic.

The more requests they get, the more likely they are to make them.

Maybe that's how they made gorilla glass 5 more durable to drops by making it softer. But now more susceptible to scratches.
That why i scoff at people that say you dont need a case because either its going to be easier to scratch or easier to shatter.

This exactly. There is a trade off of hardness to toughness. Hardness is what prevents scratching but the harder you make it, the more shatter prone so in essence you lower the toughness

ask them where the scratches are from, it could've been dropped on the floor
