Switch Between Recent Apps By Holding Home Button - Tasker Tips & Tricks

Hi,
I'm looking for a way to do task which switches between 2 last used apps.
This function is implemented in CM (I had it in Samsung Galaxy S Advance on CM11).
For example: I'm browsing Internet via Chrome and I got sms. I open that message from notification panel and response. Now I can return to Chrome when I long press captive settings button (it opens recent apps menu) and choose Chrome.
I want to do this by long pressing home button (it is configurable and it can use Tasker).
Any ideas?

It is not a tasker solution, but take a look at GMD Gesture Control app in Play Store - it is simply brilliant for app-changing purpose (and much more). Just assign an action (for example previous app) to gesture (for example 2-finger swipe to right)
Can't live without it...

I would like to avoid installing new app if it's possible. I used to use Xposed module with gestures but I'm curious if it's possible to do this as a task.

I not sure how to do this in Tasker. You might have to consider using an app. The best app to accomplish this would be LAS: Last App Switcher. This should do exactly what you're looking for.

Thanks, it's not working perfectly but it has shortcut which I have looked for

Thanks, Im looking app like this much times !

If you set Tasker as your default "Assist & voice input" app, then set "Assistance Request" as a context, you can run whatever you want as a response to a long-press of the home button. If you install an app like Last App Switcher, then you can launch that as a shortcut via a home button press. Hope that helps!

[Q] xperia z1 annoying software keys!!!

hi
I just wondered can you possibly hide xperia z1 soft key in games without any alternative apps!!
just like the lg g2's hide front touch buttons?? it just simply hide your soft keys and when you want it to appear you just need to swipe up..!!!!
it's in the system, I saw GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys ★ root but it has a LOT of options and that kind of stuff, I just need my soft keys to hide while playing games, or anything like that...!!!
Not all Games for Z1 Support Immersive Mode. The only way which you have is to install XposedFramework and Immersive Mode Module. There is no way to do it without Root and Alternative App or Module.

Of all honesty I find keeping the soft keys makes things more productive. If you want to go back on a game, you don't have to swipe up all the time to go back. It's especially less productive for a workspace. If you really want it though, just install the xposed module he said to download.
"Immersive" mode is really disappointing on these stock Kitkat 4.4 ROMs. On the Xperia SPs in our family, running JB 4.2, it is possible to remove the soft keys AND gain back the screen space that they take up, as the dock is moved down to the bottom of the screen where the soft keys used to be. But on the Z1's stock 4.4 ROM even when the soft keys are removed the screen space is still wasted because the the dock stays in the same place. I assume this is something to do the with google's 4.4 base files as the CM11 we have installed on a tablet and a phone has a much better implementation of full screen. Such a shame.

Sure, designing games to work on Android devices of so many different resolutions will always be complex for game devs but I wasn't specifically referring to how immersive mode affects games. I was trying to point out that with successive versions, Google is pushing Android development, in a number of ways, down paths that actually remove stuff that functions really well. "Expanded Desktop", as it was called in JB 4.2, worked far more logically (i.e. the screen space was "recovered" when soft keys were removed) but with "Immersive Mode", as it is called in KK 4.4, seems to be far more stoopid and just leaves a blank space at the bottom of the screen when soft keys are removed. Mainly I am referring to homescreens but also inside apps.
I'm using gravitybox to hide the softkeys forever and the LMT launcher to use the softkeys without wasting space. That's just like PIE, but all you need is root. You should give it a try. That's how it looks like.

Wow, thanks. That looks great but you are going to have to be more specific as to how I gain back the screen space. I have enabled expanded desktop in gravity box but it has about 7 options, immersive, semi-immersive, immersive status bar, immersive navigation bar etc. Tried the "hide navigation bar" option but it doesn't gain back any screen space, like immersive mode, it just removes the navigation bar with no other effect.
It would save us time, battery and about 5 reboots, if you could give us a clue as to which option to choose.
Remove the navigation bar then and use LMT instead of using the navbar.

Get xposed then GravityBox (GB) module
In GB go to "display tweaks" then enable "Expanded desktop mode"
Go back to GB main menu then go to "Navigation keys actions" and set one of the soft keys to enable expanded desktop when you double tap or press and hold it.
For me i set recent key to expanded desktop when I press and hold it.
yup owns Z1 and stuff. Also if I've helped you don't forget to hit THANKS - actions speak louder that words.

Thanks, I know about LMT launcher, I love LMT launcher. I have been using it on every phone I have owned since 2011. I added it to both my mums and dads phone as well. I have tried the first option in GravityBox to remove the navigation bar ("hide navigation bar") in the display options for expanded desktop but it just leaves a blank space at the bottom of the screen. Thanks for the heads up on GravityBox, when I get some time and a fully charged battery, I will see if I can make my homescreen look like your screenshot.

That's the only issue with this. You can't do anything about the stock home screen unless you mod it. I got used to it. At last you get everything else on full screen
Everything's fine on other launchers, but you can't use Sony widgets

Nice one, you've got it. I never thought of that. It is the Z1 launcher that is not allowing to gain back the space will in expanded desktop mode.
Tried the modded advanced xperia z launcher but it just force closes constantly so am using Nova launcher for the moment. But as you pointed out I lose all the Sony apps. Know of any other modded/advanced sony launchers I can try that would give me the extra screen space and not FC?
I asked one developer of the Sony Home app here at xda, but still nothing
Just removed that gap if you're using 0dpi navbar. Grab it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53518190

[Q] Hiding navbar crashes systemui

Hello. I recently upgraded my P6 to a P7 and now I have a huge problem: On p6 if I added to build.prop qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 the navbar would disappear and I could used LMT, but now on P7 if I add qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 every time the screen rotates it crashes SystemUI.
This is a major problem because I absolutely hate using the navbar. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

In the settings menu there is a navbar option. If you turn it on, you can hide the navbar. A swipe up will restore it.

Actually I am missing that button but I know how to do that using activity launcher. The problem is rather that I want it to be completely disabled because when I use LMT I configure it so that I need to swipe up from the bottom of the screen and that also starts the navbar.

I think you mean the soft keys...if yes - follow this:
1. You have to edit:
/data/user/0/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
- you need a program like "SQLiteEditor"
2. Make a backup of your settings.db
3. Open settings DB with your SQL editor.
4. Choose system and search
"hide_virtual_key"
5. Change in this entry the "0" to "1" and save it!
6. Restart your phone and have fun
Edit:
oh! I just see there is already a complete guide for it! my mistake!

I'm using a custom ROM. Perhaps your ROM has had this feature disabled. It may have been there in earlier builds.

Show tasker scene in recent apps list

Hello all,
i made a Geocaching scene with tasker and would like to switch between that scene and another APP... But when i press the home button, the scene disappears. Other apps still remain in the recent apps list. Is there a way to have the scene in that list so i can switch it with another APP.
Thanks!
A scene isn't an app so it can't be shown in the Recent apps list. It's just overlay.
Your best option is probably to either create a shortcut to the task and place it on your home screen, use AutoNotification to create a notification that shows the scene when clicked on, or to use the Autobubbles alpha app to use a bubble as a shortcut.

OK, thank you for your help. Downloading AutoNotification right now...

You need to setup a profile that reacts to when you click on the notification.
Here's a tutorial made by the developer that explains it further :-}

The sms app and lock screen

When receiving a sms its will show part of the message on the lock screen. I like privacy so i dont want the part of the message to be displayed, only the sender of the sms. But it looks like there is no middle thing? Its either show the name of sender + part of the message or it hides both the sender and the message. I know Textra has this function and im a big fan of Textra, but some times you want to change things up. So does anyone know if its possible to show only the sender and no message on the lock screen?
I setup a notification via Tasker. It displays %SMSRN on received text event.

How to make folders on the app screen on the Xperia Launcher?

I had the same issue.
Look at home screen settings and enable add icons to startscreen, than you should be able to drop a icon on another to make a folder.
I have my unit set up with swedish so om not sure if the translation are correct.
