Best Websites For Parts And Tools - Device Repair

Best Websites For Android Parts
Before you go searching all over the internet to try and find a trusted website that sells the Android part you're looking for, you might want to take a quick look at this list of websites. We've all had those experiences where our parts show up mangled in poor packaging and broken. To avoid this problem let's use the websites that are used by professionals throughout the industry of smartphone repair.
Swappa Boneyard

Swappa is a favorite among XDA users and is an awesome website for used phones and spare parts. You'll find a section called the junkyard where users can sell broken phones. Give it a glance and see if anyone is selling the phone that you need a part for. Even if you just need a charge port or something, having those extra parts might come in useful later on.
iFixit
Definitely the most popular in the list, these guys take their business seriously. They have a wide variety of parts, tools and even teardown instructions. For almost every new product that comes out, they'll have a teardown video that shows you exactly what tools to use and how to take the phone apart. They also use high quality parts which are sometimes worth paying a little extra.
Directfix
Directfix is where you go to get the absolute cheapest price. Very rarely do I find a website that is offering lower prices than they are. They also have repair directions and videos to check out if you need a little help with your repair project.
Repair Universe
Repair Universe is great because of their huge selection of parts that they have available. Usually this is the place you'll end up if you're looking for that really obscure part that nobody else seems to have. Their shipping is fast as well so if you're in a pinch they might be the best option.
ebay
The situations where I would recommend using ebay is when it's a specific part that you can't find on other websites, or if you're looking to get a broken phone to be used for parts. You have to be careful on ebay because you're usually buying from people who do not make their living off of smartphone parts alone. Because of this you will sometimes get low quality parts and they often break in the mail. Be sure to check your seller to make sure everything looks good before you buying from anyone.
Stick to these websites and you can rest assured that you're in good hands.

I've ordered several parts for multiple devices from Amazon.com on different occasions. So far I've had no problems. It's mostly been screen glass and LCD's. However, I recently bent my note 4. The glass didn't break but the frame is bent considerably. I ordered a new frame from Amazon.com for 30 and free shipping. When it gets here I'll be swapping frames. Now to keep the glass from breaking dieting dissasembly.
I had a friend order a LCD and glass for her Note 10.1 2014 edition from eBay recently. It looked fine and in a pre install test it seamed to work ok. After it was installed the randomly quits responding to touch and it does not recognize the s-pen at all. It was advertised as being for a note but I think it was for the tab version. My friend is now trying to get a replacement but they don't want to exchange it because it was installed.
I guess the lesson here is to be careful no matter where you get your parts.
And thanks DrGreenway for the above list. :good:

Thank You Sir.:good:

God news for my,old ZTE

One of my most trusted sources for parts:
http://gadgetfix.com
They also have an eBay store.
No hassle returns and many shipping options available. :good:

I would like to recommend iFixit from the list. This is a best place where you get all the tools and parts for your Android device.

I dont see aliexpress on this list. Amazing selection of spares and chips.

Is it just me or is that really high? Or is that just what they go for over there? (I paid not even half that amount for mine)
Plus if someone is reading the Kaiser forum isn't it safe to assume they already have a Kaiser?
Brand new TyTN II's retail for around £450! I paid £460 for mine in Feb, then the price jumped to around £500 now its back to £450. The Touch Pro I want to upgrade to costs £500 at the moment.
I see you are a smart Alec but do you realise many people check this forum for info before they buy their devices just like I did and there are also many people with broken Kaisers that may want a replacement. I find your comments a bit uninformed for a senior member.
Honestly that is a little pricy! check gumtree to have an idea of price (just an idea) some may be fake, but i think its just a little over the top..#

Seriously man, you got ripped off.
That is not what they cost.
I did a little price checking and I couldn't find any online that are close to that expensive.
You can buy them brand new for cheaper than you are selling yours used for.
And yes, of course, there will be a couple people here that might possibly be interested in buying a Kaiser, buy the fact is that percentage of the total users here will be very small, and you will have more luck posting almost anywhere else.
Well I must admit the price is in the top for a used Tytn II... However saying that £300 is a price that is more than a new Tytn II just isn't true!
In Denmark the TYTN II costed about £ 520 when it was released around a year ago...
Now I'm not sure if you guys that say the price is to high have thought about that the £300 is without any contract? And saying that I actually find it very strange that many people in here buy their phone cheap but commits them selves to an expensive contract for 2 years knowing many of you will look after a new phonemodel after 6 months... ;-)
I would like to know what the total price is for a £150 TYTN II after the contract is over? If it's under the £300 then you're right the price is to high - if not then it must be ok... (saying that though the price for a used TYTN II is about £200 - £300 depending about the quality and extra stuff)
For reference my used Kaiser cost me $190USD which is about £120. So less than half of what you are asking.
£300 is over $600CAD. Yes I absolutely CAN buy a NEW Kaiser for less than that (no contract)
Maybe the pricing is different in the stores over there, but online that is what they go for.
In the UK, a Kaiser brand new offline definately costs £350 plus. If you buy off ebay they will around £200 depending on condition and if you buy/upgrade with a 12 month contract you can get it free but it may be a Vario3 etc.
So £300 is at the top end but depending on condition you might be able to sell for close to that on ebay. Especially if it is non branded and sim unlocked and includes your satnav software.
Maybe you checked some online stores in Kabul but if you look at the reputable and hTc recommeded sites I have listed below you will find out the cheapest one costs £435.

Got a new from ebay for £299 about a year ago. Lost it in a taxi last week, got another new one from ebay for £217 a couple of days ago. You can get a new touch pro for around £400 on ebay now.
Hey m8 dont wana ruin ur chances of selling but im from east london as well and bought a tytn2 off a mate for just under 150. writing this on it now and it also isnt scratched etc.
300 is high imho 200 is a reasonable amount maybe pushing 250 with ur co pilot stuff
I think that the OP understands the opinions on prices, but this is not a set market, and he can choose to sell it at what ever HE feels is fair.
so lets quit with the thread crapping.

No one was hating, I was just asking if that was really what they go for over there. Apparently it is. But then again I have sold phones for well over market value a few times as well.
$580USD for a used one is crazy. You should buy them from over here and sell them there you would make a killing. You could easily make $200-$300 profit on each one.
Indeed, European prices are ripoffs... Here a new Kaiser at retail price without contract is still $900 now! You can go down to about $450 with a 2-year contract.
However it's interesting to see that the used market prices are very low, no way you'd sell one at the price the OP sold it for, they usually go for under $400.
There are already concurrent offers (some guy sells refurbished/as new ones for about $280 with 1GB card and in large quantities...) or people get them off ebay.
This thread is madness!
I don't know anyone that would pay 300 quid for a used Kaiser.
I got mine over a year ago (the week they were released in the UK) free from T-mobile!
They were selling it then for 350 without contract!
You must have found a complete muppet to pay that much, good on you!
Seriously, just have a look on ebay right now - the most expensive one (out of 53) is 230 pounds!
300 euros for used?
kaiser can be easily found new for less than 400$ (~277euro)

Genuine Battery Cover + Battery from Bestbuy Black Tie

For anyone who added the black tie protection/insurance plan when they bought their nexus s from US, you can call and request a replacement battery. Also you can say that your battery cover's cracked/missing and they will send you another battery cover as well. all they did was confirm my shipping address and shipped it off the next day.
I just received both of them today in the mail (took 4 days).
Just thought id let any of you black tie members know before yall spend 30 bucks on the battery cover at http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Googel-Nexus-S-Battery-Door-p/smsng6098530.htm (note the minimum order of 2 but i guess you could always end up selling one)
Im not sure if you can get on the black tie protection if you havent already when you purchased the phone. its $10 a month but i might end up cancelling since I already received the replacements and i hear a lot of horror stories about the repair process when you have to send in the phone for repair.
You can cancel the Black Tie Protection? Normally I'd expect a pre-termination fee to be paid should you elect to cancel before the end of the program.

Did you get the battery? I was considering doing this as well, I just hate calling this stuff in. Is there an online form or anything like that?
I've got the Black tie, I had to have this phone insured somehow.
Do they make you send the old ones in? I'd do it just for an extra battery.
Nope they don't make you send it in. Yes I got it already. Took about four days to process and ship. Just tell them you broke your back cover because you dropped it and they'll send it to you. That's the great thing aabout accidental damage warranty.

yes it does. exactly the same as the normal battery cover.
My back cover got all f'ed up from trying to plasti dip my battery cover... so this is great news for sure!
Is there a certain number you call to get this done? Thanks!
Call the geek squad number you can find it online. Whoever you call they'll probably just end up transferring you to the right number
I figure the BB insurance it worth it. The phone is still quite pricey if you were to damage yours in the next few months.
Mine slid out of my pocket when I was driving an it knicked the corner of the phone.
Thanx for the info OP, i'll be calling this in tomorrow for sure!

You can cancel anytime. There is no "contract" when you sign up for the protection thus you can terminate your monthly charges whenever you want.
if someone have one extra battery cover and wants to sell it, please just PM me.

Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Since I have legitimate problems with both my battery and back cover, I gave the Geek Squad 800 number a call. The first representative I spoke with sounded like he knew what he was doing. Unfortunately I needed the part number from my battery and was talking on my Nexus S. When I called back I spoke with another representative who seemed a bit incompetent. He said he placed the order for both parts but I would have to call them back in 7-10 days. I asked why I had to call back since the order was already placed. He was unable to give me a clear answer and mumbled something about having a bunch of orders and someone had to review the case. I nicely told him the case was very straightforward...my parts are bad, I'm entitled to new ones. He still gave me the runaround. Oh well. I'm sure I'll get my parts eventually...hopefully sooner rather than later.
Do you know if this can be on sell ?

Is Best Buy (US) getting this?

Title says it all. I'm following this thread, no one from BBY US is answering, which is strange. Even more strange that BBY Canada was taking pre-orders, but no one at BBY US is saying a word about it.... I've got $100 worth of rewards certs to use, would like to take home a $100 Nexus 7 someday!
Any insight on this from all the Nexus nuts here?
Probably because US BBY can't charge $100 extra for N7s. Seriously, I haven't shopped BBY for years. There is simply no point shopping there. Obviously most ppl agree and BBY sees great profit loss and laid off huge amount of employees recently.
I find their service in local stores to be great and prefer getting tablets and phones from them due to 30 day return and no hastles.

I got a 4:3 ratio dvd given to me for Christmas that was bought from BB online. I went to the store because they had both versions to trade it for a widescreen copy. They told me I have to give the gift back and have them return it online and get the copy I wanted.
I went next door to CompUSA(been a few years lol) and they swapped it out even after telling them the story. That was the last time I went to BB to buy anything.
Best Buy isn't that bad guys, nor is it really the point of this thread.... I'm a former CompUSA employee and think BBY has the upper hand, if you don't agree, you like rooting for the underdog more often than not! Anyways, I have a Silver Rewards account and $100 worth of certs to use on a device that BBY will price match "anyone, anywhere," so what's not to like about that? The best CompUSA would do is knock $50 off the SGSIII for me, I had $50 worth of certs at BBY and $50 off for their Phone Freedom promotion made a $200 phone cost $50 after doing the same price matching as CompUSA could, so which company would you have bought from? What's the return policy at CompUSA compared to BBY's Silver Rewards? Only 30 days vs 60 means at 59 days, I get a brand new device just for kicks.....

On topic:
I have no idea. lol
I talked to few people at best buy tonight and they said that it will a while before they get it. The reason is because they haven't got a agreement yet with Google to sell it but they will be selling it soon hopefully.

Well, everyone has different opinion. Android is great. I have no doubt. I loved it and I still do. It was my first real 'smarty' smartphone after good old Windows Mobile on a tiny screen.
I'm in computer science field and thought this was a chance to try different OS and also learn C## while at it since I got it for free from my friend.
Only downside is that I feel like I've become Google's slave since none of the Google apps work like Android on iPhone and that sucks considering my heavy dependence on those apps to carry on with my life. Sometimes I'd wish, calendar would sync and GMail would pop up notification asap.
But otherwise, iPhone is great too.
And I think those batteries on Amazon are either fake or very heavily used up ones. Customer reviews do tell the truth.
I don't remember how much these NFCs were, but some were close to $2 and some were over $2 a piece. Plus one unused genuine Samsung cable and one used cable as well. And then there is a shipping cost. I'm not making tons of money from this transaction. I think it's a good deal regardless of inclusion of battery or not.

Sorry. If you don't know what NFC does, I think you should just go buy the other accessories you need separately. These cost anywhere between upper $1.50ish to $2 or more a piece if you were to buy it as a new and majority of them are new anyway.. and it's like DVD-RW + doesn't scratch, so you can rewrite them over and over until your phone dies.
Sold.
Thanks for sharing the NFC Chips/Card/Stickers, USB Cables, Battery

Teclast warning - do not buy

Here is a warning to those of you considering Teclast product. Bought my Teclast X98 Air II in the end of November on Aliexpress from Anna Fang Shenzhen OKQI Electronics Mall. The tablet arrived and worked well for about a week. After the initial testing and usage the digitizer started playing up. Basically it was registering touch all over the screen when none was present, the tablet would be idle and the touch clearly seen appearing. That would result in pages opening and closing, applications starting and shutting, etc. After a day of such unruly behavior I contacted the supplier and informed them of the digitizer problem, asked to post a video, which I did, clearly showing the tablet having a life of its own. I asked for the promised 12-month warranty replacement. Was told I have to sent the tablet back for assessment and repair, but advised it will take a few months. I asked to just be sent a replacement digitizer - they said NO. The postage would cost me $45, not cheap from NZ, so I eventually forked out for a new digitizer, it being the same price as postage alone.
A few days ago the tablet has suddenly just died - not charging, not turning on, no signs of life whatsoever. This time, being a repair shop, we had tested the components and the main board is no longer. Sure enough, I am contacting Teclast themselves for the warranty repair/replacement and OKQI as an authorized supplier for the same. NO REPLY FROM TECLAST, despite 2 emails being sent to every contact listed on a website. OKQI very reluctantly agreed to provide details for sending the tablet back, but not their address, after trying to basically talk me out of sending it back altogether. Here are the suggestions from them - to take the tablet to a local repair shop, maybe they can fix it (not sure why I should, it being on warranty), even after I told them that we are an electronics repair business and should not incur any extra expense, again, see warranty! Finally, after much back and forth we got to the postage. Again, a warning that it will take months with no guarantee, that they don't even know what will happen when I send it back, that i should not send by DHL or any other such carrier etc. HERE IS THE BEST PART - according to the warranty, THEY ARE ONLY LIABLE FOR THE LABOUR COSTS AND ALL THE POSTAGE AND PARTS COSTS ARE TO BE MET BY CONSUMER. Now, there is absolutely no guarantee it will be repaired and not cost me the price of a new tablet, after all I don't even have a say. The price can be anything, but if I refuse to pay it, who is to say they won't just keep my tablet until I do, or even after, as I said, there is no agreed amount, even after I provided the fault diagnostic. So $250 later here we are - a SHODDY PRODUCT AND EVEN SHODDIER SERVICE. STAY WELL AWAY, I WISH I DID.
This is why i recommend banggood to people, they stand behind their transactions, and their policy is paying return shipping unless its over $15, in which case they pay half, which i think is fair since usually the cheapest shipping option is about $15 to ship from US to china. (this doesnt mean they wont pay return shipping if its more and clearly their fault, just thats the basic policy, youll never be stuck with full return costs, which is better than any other chinese store ive found.) When i had a similar issue with my cube tablet i bought from banggood , which had a dead spot on the digitizer, they asked me to take it to a repair shop as well; i dont know about your alliexpress seller, but banggood just wanted to see if it was cheaper to pay me to fix the tablet or actually send me out a new one, when i took it to a shop and told them it needed a new digitizer which would be $100, they agreed to pay the return shipping and send me out a new one via expedited shipping, which i was happy enough with. Banggood's sales are legit too, theyre already crazy cheap then the wholesale priced stuff goes on sale for even less. The only bad thing i can say about them is their customer service experience is slow as hell, you have to do it by email, and each email takes a full day to get a reply, sometimes more, so a simple conversation can easily turn into a week of emailing back and forth. They do have a live chat, but its only basic stuff, product support and basic information about products and policies, ask anything detailed or involving a transaction and they direct you to email. Understandable though as they have to cut costs somehow in order to compete with other prices, and the cheaper slower customer service (when compared to say amazon or ebay or brick and mortar stores. It's still way better than most aliexpress sellers), while still being fair and effective, is an ok tradeoff for me.
I have a few people who said Banggood was just as bad and never honored the warranty, there is a thread about their crap service somewhere, either here, or on other electronics goods forum, the name escapes me now. Basically they had a problem with tablet they purchased and got nowhere at all.
P.S. As a side note, I am wondering - the $100 digitizer estimate... and if Banggood thought it's cheaper to send you a new tablet, how much was the tablet?
Oh, wait, if memory serves me well it was Teclast X98 tablet as well.

Yeah wow, I bought my Teclast X98 3G from OKQI about a month ago, I decided on them because I thought they were one of the more reputable sellers as far as I could tell. Also they say they open the box and test that the Tablet is working properly before sending it out which was important to me, I dont think anything could annoy me more then a DOA item.... or (Dodgey on Arrival as well)
Also when I bought it from Aliexpress it has that buyers protection guarantee badge/shield on there etc

but I never actually bothered to read what it says, and (yeah wow) basically the gist of it is you get a full refund guarantee if the tablet never shows up but the guarantee kind of drys out from there.. I guess I am going to be extra careful with my Tablet now. I had been doing some burnin tests with OCCT ( http://www.ocbase.com/ ) test benchmark test software for windows to see how it handled etc bringing the CPU cores up to 67 degrees C, think I will stop that now.
I been buying stuff from ebay for a while now and getting complacent but this is the first time I have bought an expensive computer gadget from overseas and I guess thats why I am dropping my guard without thinking about it all.
So after the digitizer cost it sounds like you got about 7 and a half months of usage out of the tablet then? So was the $250 USD or NZD? so your Teclast tablet experience costed about $33 a month for 7.5 months.
Maybe you should take the plunge and get it full repaired by OKQI etc and see how it turns out as a complete buyer review for the rest of the internet community.

It was a cube u67gt which was about $100, but of course it doesn't actually cost them $100 to send a new one, they are making a profit its probably more like $70 for them to ship one. I would like to read the post, some people are just plain impossible to please and demand unfair treatment, then post twisting facts, I'm not saying anyone here has I just know I've seen examples of it. Banggood has been pretty good to me and also is reccomended on a lot of forums for their prices and customer service.
Hey Enigma, thanks for the warning - pretty worrying to hear of someone else having a similar issue. I bought mine whilst in Shenzhen in March this year and whilst it was great whilst it lasted, one night when I came home the air 2 was off and dead. I don't know if there were any heat issues with the tablet staying on during the day (I don't expect so as it didn't feel hot) but nonetheless I have no signs of life. At best when I run the Air Toolbox software it shows the presence of the Baytrail CPU (at times!) but that's it. No key combinations make a difference at all. And whilst the contact details of the physical store in Shenzhen I have have borne no replies at all, I'm yet to try teclast direct and given your experience am a bit worried that it may be a bit of a dead-end. I've spoken with an old friend of mine (Chinese girl who lived in Auckland 12 years and now back in Beijing) and she did a bit of digging on the Chinese forums when I told her about the issues I had. Some seem to be saying that the slower Biwin eMMC chip they are using could be creating a power draw issue that can wreak a bit of havoc for the motherboard over time. I can't see how solid state memory can cause issues like that but nonetheless it appears to be what's been said. My serial number is 2662P144993446 - and apparently the issue is known to have happened within a range of serials. What's your serial number - close to mine? Do you still have your teclast? If you could confirm I'd appreciate it as I want more ammunition to throw the book at these guys for when I'm back up in Shenzhen in coming months!
I doubt the issue is caused by eMMC, I am waiting for the battery to solder in place, something tells me it might be the battery issue. Now, what stupid architect connects the battery to the main board by 3 solder points instead of a basic plug? I will tell you - the Teclast one. If anyone needs the internal pics for whatever purpose - let me know.
mine died after 5-6 months. case: overcharging for 2 days (forgot to bring back home after charging at workplace). whatever other say about this, it's not first device i leave it overcharge, 1 day, 2 days, many time, but this device simply died. beside i'm using normal genuine other device charger (crappy ori 2.5a charger has been trowed away very long time ago). but to be honest -i don't care
let me say this, don't buy any crappy noname china product, teclast, chuwi whatever. simply get reliable brand outside. if you really love china, get lenovo, huawei, xiaomi, meizu etc. taiwan asus, acer etc. korea samsung, lg etc. other dell, hp, motorola, nokia, nexus, microsoft etc. sure with the same price, you will not bombastic spec out there, but it just work & reliable warranty. if you don't have much money, search for cheap preowned device at ebay.
but to be honest, invest little bit & simply get apple (in this case, ipad air2), or microsoft (surface 3) if you like. why? because for 100% money, you get 100% experience. for other brand, you pay for 50% ipad price, you only get 30-45% experience. noname china brand? pay 50% get 5-20% experience, seriously. use your brain calculator & calculate which is worth. i still have 1st ipad (like 6 years old? last ios5), still alive & use by my kids for watch online streaming & watch youtube (once a while, they have other device). the battery almost never died, watch all day will never kill the battery.
I agree. I have bought x98 air 3 m5c5 from OKQI, then flashed clean rom, everything was working ok and after 3 months, tablet had suddenly died. Black screen, only backlight, no dnx mode working. Probably some hardware issue. And yes, I had to pay postage costs for sending them tablet and another for sending it back to me ~ 35$ together. It took 2 months to complete whole procedure and get my repaired tablet back. Now it's working ok but don't know for how long So yeah, better buy more expensive one and from more reliable producer.
My Tablet shut down in Windows when I received it.
I attached copper plates for better Cooling, since then, my Tablet works.
I made this Chinese crap experience with my headunit of my VW. But that was company Erisin.

Hi
Has anyone any customer service return experience with Gearbest here ?
Guys, I agree with OP. I bought my Teclast X98 Plus II, and when It arrived the WI-FI was so poor, I had to open the tablet and solder extra cables. SD Card never worked properly and the battery is lasting way to little for 8000mAh. Also I have a 1440p screen and for whatever reason youtube does not play 1080p60. So far, my tablet works, but at first malfunction I am throwing it away and I won't bother to buy Teclast anymore.
If you want a tablet, go for Xiaomi, or something else.
NEVER NEVER NEVER buy Teclast
I also bought a X98 3G, and also broke down, huge battery drain even with a new battery, crazy screen behavior...
Waste of money
Never buy Teclast
Dear friends...my X98 (i have it less than a year) stopped and never start up again, i tried all methods that i found in internet and NOTHING!!! Also i try to reach the official company ant they ignore me totally....Be careful with this company....their items is totally un- trustworthy..After sales support is terrible, they dont respond to emails messages etc and generally they dont care about their customers......Too bad for this company. Try to find what you looking for to another brand.....
