Is there a way to get ambient display for Moto g 2014 on Cyanogen? - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently flashed cyanogen mod 12.1 on moto g 2014 and I can't find ambient display. Is there a way to get it on cyanogen cause it was available in the stock ROM and it was very useful feature.

Yeah http://nxrom.us/motog2.html

You can use AcDisplay as well. Its an app that implements the same functionality.

Speaking of which, I can't seem to find the correct gapps for cm13 on moto g 2014. It just keeps saying " Google play services have stopped ". Can you help me out with that?

I don't use CM atm. I reverted to stock because I was curious about the upcoming official Android 6 rom. Still waiting
You should really check the CM13 thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-1-t3245546
I've read something about pico or nano gapps working ok and you'll have to flash it in a particular order. Haven't done it myself, search/ask the thread mentioned.
Good luck.

They enabled it in CM13.

Not exact Ambient Display but you can install ACdisplay app to get somewhat similar experience.

I don't know, @luca020400 said yesterday that ambient display is back,

in the latest build ambient display is working. i am on 20160118 nightly.

Ambient display is working fine

ambient display is added
it was added from jan18 builds in cm13.

I've installed Nexus Experience ROM and ambient display is included in the 'Gestures' setting. It works flawlessly!

Am I the only one to face huge battery drops when Ambient Display is on.? ?
Sent from my Moto G 2014 using Tapatalk

the battery drops are normal because ambient display is supposed to help increased battery life, but not in every single phone. In fact, only OLED and AMOLED screens benefit from this function, since they don't light up every single pixel on the screen in order to show the minimalistic notifications when ambient display is on. Since they simply just don't light up to show blacks, it actually saves battery. On the MOTO G we have a IPS LCD, a backlit pannel, that lights up every single portion of the screen to show the minimalistic ambient display notifications. But the reality is that not having your phone light up every single time it gets a notification (via ambient display or not) is the best choice for battery saving, if that is what you want.
Personally, Since the 20150118 nightly i've been using the ambient display. My phone has great battery life with ambient display on, despite not reaching the 3.5 screen on time some claim to surpass on cm13.

Hi
I just got my Z2 yesterday but i just cant believe this top phones flashlight is this weak.
Compare to any other phone S3, S4, moto g, nexus4, nexus 5 is like a joke.
1/3 of the strength or less. Or maybe my device is faulty?
Interestingly when i take a photo the flash much stronger but when I use any torch app just a little bit stronger then a the screen on full brightness.

I felt same.Wondering how this light intensity will help "Full flash" option..(yet to test though)..
Will try and post photos later
sweet!
It's an excellent app allowing you to set (turn on and off) almost all android services, and as a bonus, a torchlight that can use either the LED or screen. This app can also be "docked" at the status bar for quick access.it's not exactly hard to make a phone that manages adequate voice calls. I can't remember the last time that I had a mobile that failed here. It's unremarkable for the phone to work for voice. I'd expect the reviewer to mention very clearly if it sucked for voice (dodgy antenna, poor earpiece/mic), of course.
The flashlight in the Carbon ROM is the brightest I've ever seen on the Z2.
This official app really sucks!! Is really weak and when you turn off the screen app wont work

The first question to ask is: is it safe. If the light brightness is rather low, there may be a good reason...

This was an assumption. Better to be prudent...
Passing high amount of current through led for a very long time can cause damage, thats why only the last pulse of flash in photo capturing is the brightest, as it is for only a short amount of time (even less than a second)
if you can figure out how much current the LED can endure (through datasheet), you can increase the brightness of the LED by increasing the current value "in some system file" but be careful not to exceed the threshold value, or the LED will confirm get damaged(sorry i dont know exact file, maybe google can help?)
still, i cant 100% guarantee the LED will be safe for custom values, but when i used xperia U, one guy made a "LUXEN LED brightness increasing mod" which i still use even now on my xpU and my LED is much brighter and not damaged
Its just, if you are gonna try it, you should have idea of basic electrical engineering so you can read the datasheet easily and understand all the "dangers" involved, if any..
i know this thread is abit older but...
some days ago i switches from z1 to z2 and i can remember the same "problem" of the z1. there was a mod that allowed you to push the current of the led in "torch-mod" at the same level as "camera flash". i used it for a really long time and noticed no damage to the led. but this mod is not working for the z2.
i really wish a brighter led -.-
(and please stop "it can destroy bla bla bla" ppl who are using this kind of modifications should know about the risk. and if they dont... well... not your problem)
I use this mod. It's from z1, but it alsof works on the z2. Medium settings..

I find the one minute timetime is very useful, thanks for the app.

Stock ROM with ambient display?

I'm using CM 12.1, I love it but I'm having a lot of FCs and reboots that I didn't used to have with stock. Also, I love on stock the double twist inside the camera app which flips between front camera and rear camera. The only thing that makes me keep using CM is the ambient display. Is there any custom rom based on stock that does have ambient display working with the IR and pick up sensors?

Yeah, I was using Nexus Experience and I was having the same issues. I know that Nexus Experience uses CM code as base, so I think it's something related. The reboots are only while I'm typing, so maybe it's a google keyboard and/or memory leak issue. Also having FC's while using snapchat, but only when I'm applying filters on the snap taken. I think It's a memory leak issue too.
And about the double twist, I was talking about double twist while the camera app is already running, which on stock makes the front/rear camera switch between them.
Anyway, thank you

[MOD] [Z2] [KK/LP] Qualcomm Assertive Display 1.0

I know this is a bit old news, but still a lot of users and even power users don't know this exists. I guess it's better to create a new thread instead of explaining every time in PMs what this is about
Qualcomm Assertive Display 1.0 port from Z3 23.4.A.1.232
Qualcomm said:
Assertive Display is a new technology which makes the display adaptive to its viewing environment. By employing sophisticated video processing algorithms based on research into human vision, the mobile display is continuously adjusted to deliver a consistent, high-quality experience in all conditions, including those in which content would be otherwise unwatchable.
The result is that the multimedia experience is maintained everywhere, even in bright sunshine. Assertive Display-enabled devices typically consume at least 30% less display power, leading to significant battery life extensions. Viewing comfort is maximized by ensuring that the display is neither too dark nor too bright for the eyes.
Assertive Display has been featured in devices from smartphones by manufacturers such as Sharp and Huawei to HDTVs by Bang & Olufsen.
Qualcomm Technologies supports Apical’s latest, third-generation Assertive Display technology, which operates with minimal software load and very low power consumption for even the highest display resolutions.

TL;DR
It lowers display power consumption and improves view-ability in direct sunlight.
The Z5 supports a newer version (1.3 vs 1.0) of the calibration system, but I don't know, if the Z2 is capable. Since this is SOC dependent stuff, I'd rather stay as close to the Z3 as possible.
Install procedure:
1. This mod touches /system/build.prop, so make a backup just in case.
2. Flash the attached file in recovery.
Background:

Yes, it's a flashable file. Should have mentioned that in the OP
Since users reported this works on the Nexus 6, I'm quite sure it will work on custom roms too. I did test it only with stock/stock based ROMs.
okay i will test it now on resurction remix rom now and will report if it works. how can i see if it work ? any solutions after flash

You should get significantly more SOT. Also the screen appears brighter. I do notice the effect (just like Xreality, Vivid), but the best test would be to compare two Z2 side by side.
Because my z2 is on 23.4.A.1.232. So, I have a question. Is stock Z2 23.4.A.1.232 included this mod?

You are out of luck. As far as I know there isn't a rom or kernel anymore offering dt2w on our z1.
They gave up dt2w because it couldn't be implemented without eating our battery. Reason was our LCD Display.
You have to buy another phone supporting this feature.

I don't think our z1 has got an ips display. Viewing angels and colours are too worse in my opinion. On an ips display our angels and colours should be much better. But I never Google what display our z1 is equipped with.
Dt2w function depends on the phones implemented display. As far as I know, on oled and amoled dt2w can be much easier implemented. Ips also. My dad has got a super lcd display on his HTC m8 and it supports dt2w too.

Given I have been reading this forum since it was released, this issue doesn't jump out as a massive issue.

You are right. Adaptive brightness is crap on the 1+3. It changes all of a sudden and gets very low. Or in bright situations, it doesn't change at all in order to adapt to the new lightening conditions.
