Z3 Compact - Samsung S-Health compatibility - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I'm thinking of getting a Z3 Compact to replace my S6 (wanna try downsizing ) but I have a question. I ahve used only Samsung devices in the past and I use S-Health all the time.
Is it fully compatible with the Samsung S-Health app? And by this I mean the pedometer function because it's obvious it doesn't have HR sensor or anything like that.
Thanks in advance!

I dont use it, but i just installed S-Health, and the answer is yes - it does work with z3c ?

Thank you for helping me. One more thing (if you still have it installed that is [emoji1]). Does is measure steps even if the app is not opened/minimied (so basically, in background)?

What do you want to know about the S3 Mini?

Hey guys, I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini... until tomorrow, I guess. What exactly would you like to know about it? I can make videos, take pictures... whatever
Give me some requests and tomorrow morning I hope to make some videos and whatever to answer your questions
Here's a picture of it compared to the S3 & Note 2.

NFC is market dependent. I am holding on to a 8gb Romania set. There is no NFC present.

No. You cant choose Auto-Brightness.
Maybe in next firmwares...

Actually, it doesn't have an ambient light sensor...
The two dots seen at the left of the speaker grill are just the proximity sensor.

The features and menus seem to be identical - I don't have the S3, but I checked a couple of youtube videos detailing the camera interface and it seems to be the same. Yes, you can also change the icons around to your tastes.
Is the Galaxy S III mini's bootloader locked?

Hi, what is the specification of processor U8420? What are the differences between U8420 and U8500?

The U8420 is just a custom 8500... I couldn't see any differences between the two in all I've read.
The U8420 packs two Cortex-A9 cores clocked at 1 GHz and a single-core Mali 400MP GPU.
Thx a lot.:good:
I still can't decide which one to choose: S III Mini or S Advance. What would you choose, and why?
I chose the S III Mini because it's newer (so I think it will get more official updates than the Advance), comes with Jelly Bean 4.1.1 already installed, has 1 Gb of RAM... and because I kinda like the design. Even if I'll probably install every custom ROM made for it, it's still good to have official updates - drivers for example are still closed source and there's only so much the future devs will be able to do without the proper drivers.
The S Advance on the other hand has less RAM (768 MB) and doesn't look as nifty. The only trouble is that I don't know how well supported the S III Mini will be (here on XDA I mean), since it's been a month since its release and still no quick root method available. The bottom line is: if you're not that into installing and testing out custom ROMs, kernels and other stuff like this, then don't worry and go ahead on the S III Mini. Else, look around, see what the guys on the S Advance threads are doing and make a more informed decision.
But, of course, if there's a big price difference then the Advance will be a better deal.
Thanks for the exhaustive answer. I'll take S III Mini.

Put your phone in USB Debugging mode and send this command via ADB:
Code:
adb reboot recovery
Or, install Terminal Emulator on your phone and write:
Code:
reboot recovery
Please note that faria and brokenworm are to thank for these methods, they're the ones who posted them in the Rooting thread.

Seriously? Devs are not assigned.... They start developing on the device they have. What do you think? It's a paid thing? Read the XDA rules and manual again and again...
Do we have usb on the go support on this phone?

[Q] WatchOn APK, not working properly. Helpplease

Hello there!
I have a galaxy 3 and I downloaded WatchOn apk file. It installed successfully and everything else, BUT when I try to connect to my Epson projector. It does not work, help me please.
I know this is a issue with my device because my cousin has a galaxy 4 and it works great for him. He can turn on and off the projector easy.
Looking forward to your reply ^_^

From what I can tell, that phone does not come with an I Blaster which is part of the hardware/build of the phone.

You can't get one. it is either built in to your phone or not. it is an IR (infrared light emitter). A GS3 does not have one. they only started using them on the S4 and the Note 3. On the Note3 it is a small round black looking plastic plug on the top end of the phone just to the right of the speaker. There is a high power IR LED behind that emits beams that can work like a remote for device and they can also be used to exchange data between to similar devices.
That being said by, if you mean by Galaxy 3 as in an S3 then you cannot use this app. On the other hand if you mean a Note 3 then you can use this app and it should require no special settings. Just follow the setup instructions in the app and you are good.

[Q] NFC file share with Samsung: KO

HI everyone,
I try more than 10 times to share one pic between my brand new Z1 and my wife's S3. The transfer never starts! even the classical NFC sound didn't happened ones!
I do the same with my N7 (2013) and works every time! sound + file sharing
I have no idea why, but it looks to me that is has something to do with Album App.
Did anyone have the same issue?
Thanks in advance for your time.

Some NFC tags work with some devices while others only work with other devices. It seems to be NFC isn't really a standard yet and not all devices work well with each other. The odd thing is I have used NFC with my Z1 and my sister's S3 mini.
Didn't know the Z1 has such a big ego.

It might require a specific app in both to work. I noticed that I can't transfer anyfiles until I have file expert installed on both devices. Although with file expert I can transfer not only photos but pretty much anyfile. Probably other file explorer programs could do the same.
Thank you all for your answers and tips! Appreciate that.
I'll keep trying and let you guys know what happens...
Check to see if the "S Beam" on the S3 is off. Ran into the same problem before with friends. Turned it off and worked like a charm.

Both
Sorry to wake this back up but I tried sending things via wifi direct from the Z1 and it isn't even listed, the procedure for sending things via Wifi Direct on the Z1 is crazy, all you need to do on other devices is to select wifi direct and it goes.
Superbeam kind of works but NFC tagging will only initiate Bluetooth, so hardly great if it's a sizeable file, like a movie or something.

Only on the S3. "S Beam" only exists and works from one Samsung device to another. Once it's off it should work like the standard android beam does.
It'll work but won't initiate WiFi direct. Just Bluetooth, which sucks.

Gear 2 now that Android wear is out.... #failboat

So I bought a Neo and played around with it on my work Note 3. It has fair amount of apps. Well today I bought a S5 Active. I moved my Neo over to it (requires reseting it.) and got gear manager installed. Surprise to me... It seems even though things like the clock face is an app that runs on the phone if the developer doesn't select that it works with a phone you can't use it. Which should be a simple change for most things however it doesn't seem that developers update their Samsung store apps. For the S5 active there are only a handful of apps even though I am sure 99% all the apps would work if the dev would click the "it works with an s5 active"
After dealing with Samsung support (or the lack of it) I tried to get on the Samsung app store webpage. It seems they are having server errors so it was been working like crap. I was kind of able to get contacts for a couple of the app dev's to ask that they update their app to work with the S5 active. Samsung app store doesn't provide contact information unless the dev adds it. One of the devs linked to his google+ page. Which showed he is working to get the same app with improvements to work on android wear.
This got me thinking. Who is going to mess with this crappy half baked Samsung store with Google coming out with Wear? I'd guess we won't see anyone making new Apps for the tizen watches, they don't even update it to work with new phones it will run on with no changes...
I just got the Neo and I am on the fence of returning it. I figured I could get by with apps I had on the Note 3 until someone got a Wear rom for it. With the lack of apps when paired with the s5 I am not impressed at all and after my research today I am liking it less. I got it over the wear because it was only 150bucks vs 225, it has a speaker and IR blaster and Android wear is lacking in features (sure to change in 6 months to a year). I figured by the time wear got up to speed there would be a rom. Thinking about it some I am doubtful, I think the speaker and IR blaster (camera if it is a gear 2) will prevent it from ever happening. None of the wear watches have these so I'd guess there isn't low level support.
I guess I need to return it and wait for the 360 come out.
I had the same problem with my active. I modified the build prop to identify my device as a regular s5 and have all the apps again.

I'm definitely going to sell my Neo and wait for the Moto360. I like the Neo fine, but am getting sick to death of having to run stock based ROMs. I will miss some features of the G2, but damn that 360 looks beautiful and development should be great

Phone is rooted, not the watch. I rooted by using towelroot. Look in the particular forum for your phone for instruction, I don't want to give bad advice.
I understand how to root. My question now is, will this work with any phone?

Call Recording without Root

Hey guys,
Long time lurker here, finally decided to make an account to both ask this question and because I figured it was a good time to get involved with the community, now that I'm switching from a Nexus 5 to the Z3 Compact. The Z3C is arguably the best phone on the market right now, but some of the decisions sony makes (ie. the bloatware) means that the community will definitely need to step up if we want this phone to truly be the best on the market.
So here's my question. On my rooted N5, it was extremely easy to record all of my phone calls. Because of the DRM key issue with unlocking the bootloader on the Z3C, I am hesitant to root, so I am looking for a way to record my phone calls without root. Does anyone know of any apps that get the job done on the Z3C without root?
My model No. is the British D5803.
Thanks,
Matt
