MM will not support sound in the boot animation, only a carrier added boot animation, that's added to the device, and not through the normal way a boot animation is added, will it support sound.

That's what i thought thanks for the info. I'd like to research that special way/reverse engineer

I think that google let sounds in the boot animations up ice cream sandwich, then stopped letting in sounds. buts that's official boot animations. about the provider animations I am clueless.

Just need to find someone with stock Boot so i can look in the usual places first need to see the desc.txt file and that will point me in the right direction

This is the bootanimation.zip file from the oem/media folder on my Nexus 6. I'm pretty sure this is what you are looking for but if not let me know and I'll try to help further.

Yeah, if you root. Some kernels/roms allow custom boot animations. Better of in the http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=666 section. Here some guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857596&highlight=bootanimation no idea how accurate

What do i do if i am on stock froyo. I am rooted andwhen i used root explorer to go to /system/media all i saw relating to bootanimation were these 2 files:
1. bootsamsung.qmg
2. bootsamsungloop.qmg
So what am i supposed to do now?

[MOD] Remove T-Mobile Logo During Boot

This is just a quick little script I threw together to remove the blinding white T-Mobile logo from boot. It replaces the carrier branding with the loop that Samsung intended and should be much easier on your eyes in dark settings.
All this file does is make a backup of bootsamsungloop.qmg and replace it with the same file from the Canadian W8 rom.
Everything should be working! If not, please let me know.
Step 1) Flash in TWRP
-if you use an automated script installer like Flashify, TWRP might tell you the install failed. However, I found this to be false.
Step 2) Profit
Thanks
you can just delete that file (bootsamsungloop.qmg) and reboot, the tmobile boot screen will be gone and it will show samsung

I'm not entirely positive how flashfire works so I'm hesitant to say yes or no. Alternatively, you can also use the no flash method -- take the files in the archive, delete the one in your system, replace it with the file in the zip and set permission to 644
What about the shutdown T-Mobile screen? How do we get rid of that?

You can delete the shutdown.qmg file from /system/media which will take away the samsung/t-mobile screen completely (replaces it with system dialog box and spinner and just says "Shutting Down") or you can try replacing it with this one from the international version (which I believe just says Samsung).
Contents of the zip are NOT flashable -- use your favorite file explorer to copy and change permissions to 644
And if we want the t mobile shutdown who can help with it. I have a metro pcs. I really like the red t mobile logo.

You would have to grab the shutdown.qmg from a t-mobile rom and overwrite the one you have currently. I don't currently have any t-mobile roms on hand or I would grab the file for you myself.

Hello All!
As per the advice seen above in the thread, i've tried to delete the bootsamsungloop.qmg and the shutdown.qmg files, in order to get rid of the T Mobile screen, but i wasn't able to delete them, altough everytime i've tried, root browser was telling me that file has been deleted. But those files are still there. My Galaxy S7 is not rootet, it's running its official marshmallow.
Any further advice please? Would be much appreciated!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Deleting these two files bootsamsungloop.qmg and shutdown.qmg on my SM 910T Note 4 completely removed the T-mobile splash screens during bootup and shut down.
This was way simpler than flashing a ROM or using an app.
My eyes are no longer blinded during boot up in the dark and shut down no longer lingers on a T-Mobile logo.
As mentioned earlier your phone must be rooted in order to successfully delete these files.
Do i have to root my phone ? I get this error message saying the copy task failed /system/media/bootsamsungloop.qmg (Read-only file system). what can i do here ?

Zenfone 2 Boot Animations

I wasn't really thrilled with the stock boot animation so I made a few others
Zen Nexus
Download
Zen Spin (default on Garbage Gone)
Download
Stock boot animation in case you need it
Download
All of these zips are twrp flashable
Enjoy
also thanks to @Harfainx for the flashable zip compatible with the ZF2
Woohoo! Awesome :highfive:
Just tried flashing the Zen Nexus animation in TWRP, and I still have the stock animation.

try it again for me
Just tried it again and TWRP says that the flash was successful, but it didn't take. Also tried your other animation with the same result. I do still have the white animation from when I unlocked the bootloader. Do I need to fastboot the stock black one first? Good to see you over here from the HTC M7 forums. Thanks for the work.

are you flashing these on a 551?
Also the nexus boot did have issues for me but the other 2 were fine. and no the white spalshscreen doesn't have anything to do with the boot animation.
Also yeah i'm having a good time here, Asus invited me to the launch event, still have my m8 on sprint but this is on my AT&T line

I just installed the black boot animation from the unlock bootloader thread via fastboot, booted to system, then rebooted to recovery and flashed the Nexus animation. Now it works and looks great too.
Hi thoughtlesskyle, only the Nexus isn't working the other two are. thanks.

I like the Nexus Boot :good:
Both flash fine for me. No wiping anything, just reboot to recovery. Select the file to install, and then it's good on reboot to system.
Hi. It's already working, i download your file again. BTW, the first nexus file that i've downloaded was around 8MB now this file is around 4MB.

what is the difference between the zip file format/contents referenced in this post and the one at this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852621
I want to start creating my own boot animations, but don't know where to begin. The referenced link is quite old so I suspect it is probably obsolete.
Boowho??
I DL'ed the Nexus one and flashed it to the ZF2.
I have thee 550 so the resolution was obviously wrong, but the anim DID show at boot up.
SO..... I extracted the bootanimation.zip and ran all the .png files thru a resolution changing program.
ALL the converted images look fine and the desc.txt file appears to be correct to, AFAIK.
So I put the new bootanimation.zip in system/media
But the new anim does not appear at bootup.
What I should I be looking for in my new file that could be causing the problem? Case sensitive, maybe; or some other small issue??

Yes, I did sir...... I used a tool called Boot Animation Factory.
But the problem turned out to be permissions.
I set everything to rwx for owner, group and others. In Linux AKA as 777
Worked perfectly.
Thanks for your interest and suggestion.
Boowho??
I think any animation of our resolution will work.
Worked for me too...

I have a questions. How to add the bootanimation sounds in Zenfone 2?

Custom bootanimation

Trying to swap it out in system/media/bootanimation.zip but it's not taking. Also tried replacing the sprint_bootanimation.zip but that didn't work either.
And yes, I changed permissions. Any advice
look in /carrier/cust/poweron
Thanks bro, it worked!
Edit: What bootani are you using? I'm using a Android M bootani I found on the International thread. Do you have a boot down ani?

Stock. I deleted the Sound on boot and that's why I knew where it was.
And for those that want to do the same
Using root explorer (had to mount R/W) if I recall, I renamed
/carrier/cust/poweron/PowerOn.ogg to /carrier/cust/poweron/PowerOn.ogg_
and
/carrier/cust/poweroff/PowerOff.ogg to /carrier/cust/poweroff/PowerOff.ogg_
Now it's silent on reboot.
Thanks again.
Hey guys I accidently replaced the stock boot animation. Any chance one of you guys could upload the original boot animation from carrier/cust/poweron ? Thank you!

Look in system/media/audio/PowerOn.ogg, PowerOff.ogg
I renamed it here and in /carrier/cust/... for ZV6
Ok, so I'm trying to swap out my boot animation and I'm just getting the default Android one. I've renamed the bootanimation.zip in /carrier/cust/ as well as /system/media/ to bootanimation.zip.bak and copied the replacement bootanimation.zip into the /system/media/ directory and changed the permissions to rw-r-r (644) and still nothing. I'm currently on a rooted ZV6 build. Anybody got any ideas? Am I missing something?
Bump

Am i the only 1 who can't change the boot animation?!

Hello,
My device is running nougat with an unlocked bootloader, custom recovery and rooted.
I tried to change my boot animation via /system/media and I gave a permission to read/write but it doesn't work then I tried a flashable boot animation but it kept the same.
Can someone point me where I am wrong?
Anything would be appreciated

PRODUCT\etc\media\bootanimation.zip
how did you expect it to work if there is no bootanimation.zip in system\media ?
however rebooting is not good for the performance of your device just like killing background apps all the time and its not even battery friendly but have fun.

You should not reboot your device too often maybe once a week.
Changing to a fancy bootanimation just lead you to rebooting
