Is it possible to root Moto X (xt1052)? - Moto X Q&A

My son has a moto x bought in 2014 - XT1052. How can i root it safely, because i am a little afraid of the process. I have in mind that is very dificult to do that in this phone, anybody as made it? I have the OPO rooted and is great, my son wants some of the functionalities that i have in my phone but it needs to be rooted...
Sorry for my english (not my 1st or 2nd language)...

yes possible to root, i've rooted mine with king root, but you need to unlock your bootloader first, then install the .apk file of king root(the easiest method to root moto x), then get twrp recovery and you're good to go !

I am so happy to land this device. Is rooting as easy as using lingo. And then could I just install the latest safestrap for our Verizon moto x?

Has anyone tried the kingo root method. I almost clicked the button to try but was scared. I used this to root my locked boot loader Verizon note 3

I believe every other root method was attempted, don't waste your time, the above method or rockmymoto or pawnmymoto are the only root hijack method.

[Q] If I unlock my Sprint Moto X, I can just root by pushing TWRP and SuperSU?

I have a locked Moto X 4.2.2 (latest camera patch).
I used RockMyMoto to root it and it worked fine.
But now I want to goto KitKat..
From what I think I've read, I could take one of two options
1. Go through the SlapMyMoto process to update to 4.4 Kitkat and stay locked
- This keeps stock recovery and root I think?
OR
2. Unlock my phone officially and just push TWRP and SuperSU with adb/fastboot and I'm done?
Is that right? Is it really that simple to root when you are unlocked? I don't give 2 flips about voiding my warranty

The conversation here is regarding unlocking the phone's bootloader, not unlocking the carrier...

[Q] T-Mobile/Unlocked GSM Moto X Root

Okay, got a strange question here. I plan on going from the N5 to the unlocked GSM MotoMaker Moto X version. All I want is root with stock recovery (don't really care for a custom recovery, plus I'd like to still receive OTAs). Can I unlock the Moto X bootloader, load TWRP recovery (instead of flash), and then install SuperSU? Or do I *have* to flash TWRP to achieve root?
correct me if im wrong, but I think you can "unlock the Moto X bootloader, load TWRP recovery (instead of flash), and then install SuperSU".
or
use one of the methods in the original android development section to achieve root.

Yes, I've looked at those threads. However, in 4.4, a backdoor needs to be introduced in order to maintain root. I'd rather not have to do that and I don't mind unlocking bootloaders. This will be my first, non-Nexus device in awhile, so I just wanted to make sure I can just unlocked the bootloader, load a custom recovery, flash SuperSU and then just have root.

Just unlock your boot loader, flash twrp recovery and finally flash supersu and you're good to go. Ota's can not be accepted and flashed with root or custom recovery on the moto

Thanks! That's what I thought! I didn't know that root removed the ability to accept OTAs?

Hi I am planing my first root and I am honestly a little confused. I am on TMobile with 4.4 KitKat (Moto X).
I understand how to unlock the Bootloader and that I need to install TWRP before I can activate SU.
I am just not sure about the bugs (if any) with TWRP and what version to use.
The reason for my concern is on the TWRP website the Moto X is not listed as a supported device.
Is this video Tutorial still valid - is this how to do it with 4.4 KitKat?
And is this the latest version that works (what are the known bugs)?

[Q] root xt1095 5.1

Is there a way to root the 2014 X (XT1095) running 5.1 without wiping?
I've read about kingroot but I don't think I should trust it.
thanks!

Kingroot will not root a Moto X 2014 with a locked bootloader. If it did, then no one would have to pay for MoFo.
Why don't you want to unlock your bootloader and root? Just backup your device before you unlock.
Hey Jules, thank you for your reply.
I was trying to avoid spending those 2 hours making a backup, unlocking, restoring back up after having already spent time setting everything the way I like it.
What's that paying MoFo method you mention?

MoFo is only for the XT1097 and XT1096. There is no reason to buy MoFo if you can unlock your bootloader. Once you unlock your bootloader and install TWRP, you can make nandriods and never fear a factory reset again.
Hey Jules I'm on the 5.1 soak text on the xt1095, is it that simple to unlock the bl and install twrp. Don't know if the steps are the same for the soak test and don't want to brick my device! I'm sick of waiting for official, and love installing Roms and making my device to my specs! Thanks for your answer

[Q] How can I temporaly root my att moto X?

Hello guys, I bought an Att sim unlocked, locked bootloader moto X 2013, and I' m fine with stock, but I want to remove some bloatware. Now I'm in 4.4.4 and I heard that I can root my phone, but after a reboot the root is gone, because of the locked bootloader.I want this temporal root to unistall the att bloatware plus some other app. Is it possible?
Thanks in advance?
Instead of temporary Rooting, you could better choose to Disable the Bloats.. (few cant be disabled as well) :s

Temp root was available on 4.4.2 and lower. Once on 4.4.4 you can't root, nor can you use Sunshine to unlock your bootloader then root.
