help with a Droid turbo on AT&T - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

We have a working Droid turbo on AT&T...
we want to use Mobile Hotspot...are there any good apps to make it work? (paid or free is fine)
also any good voicemail apps? or instructions on how to set up voicemail from phone for AT&T...
phone is not rooted...nor have we tried. i think i could do it but would rather not.
TIA~!

Unless you have tethering on your plan, you can't tether without rooting. Stock 5.1 has a check built into the system.

CM12.1 and other custom ROMs like Resurrection Remix have portable hotspot/tethering built in.

It's worth noting though that unless you have tethering in your Verizon plan, on RR (and others I'm assuming) it will occasionally shut down the tethering while you're using it. It works if you just turn it back on though.

We have it on AT&T Grandfathered unlimited data plan, it has hot spot/tethering..(it worked fine on our old phone-we use tethering a lot)
so it sounds as though i need to root/unlock it to get the hot spot functionality? Is there any walk-thrus..i THINK i can do it but im not 100% confident.
TIA

Here's a guide, but basically:
1. Install the Sunshine apk
2. Run the app, and run the tests on your device to see if its compatible; if it is, you pay $25 for a license key.
3. Wait for Sunshine to work its magic and follow any steps. Your device will reboot and display a Warning as it boots.
4. Your device will reboot and be completely normal.
5. You can either choose to use Kingroot to get temporary root access, or you can run Sunshine again up to the point where you get temporary root.
6. Once you have temporary root, install Flashify from the Play Store.
7. Head on over to the forums and download the latest TWRP (v3.0.0.0) .img file.
8. Go ahead and also download the latest SuperSU.zip
9. Flash the TWRP img using Flashify.
10. To get into TWRP, power off your device. Once its completely off, hold Power and Volume down until you get to the bootloader screen. You should be able to scroll using the volume keys.
11. Press volume down until you see "Recovery." Press Power to boot into TWRP.
12. TWRP will ask you a question, make sure you say yes.
13. From here, feel free to make any backups. Click install then navigate to the SuperSU.zip and click it. It'll ask you to flash, go ahead.
14. Once you're through doing whatever, boot into system.
15. Feel free to download a root checker app to verify root. You should have root access at this point

Just as the title says, after the most recent update I decided to root this SIII LTE using CF Auto Root, I've used triangle away to get rid of the flash count, but I can't seem to get the 'Modified' status to go away does anyone know how I can get the Normal status back again?

Read the Basic Faqs and Guides How to return to stock for warranty .
Their is an almost identical post on I9305 forum last week that may help.
I need to do this without wiping the device, though this isn't for warranty, this is just so that I can get future ota updates, my device isn't running a custom ROM either, its simply rooted, or it was, I used super su to uninstall root access and the su binary, but device status still shows 'Modified'

Install TriangleAway, reset the counter, and tick "allow the tracker to run". Then, disable root in SuperSU (probably won't work with other root managers), reboot, wait for "Scanning..." to go away in Options, and run Software Update.
However, OTA will still probably fail, as Samsung uses an OTA mechanism that relies on /system being unchanged.

Yeah I tried all the triangle away options, and uninstalled super SU, but the OTA still failed, if I try flashing the latest ROM using Odin will that wipe my data?

I was rooted, running the stock ROM on my GT-I9305 obtained from EE. I wanted to go back to original state and unroot. I was using the GS3 ToolKit which really did make things a bit more complicated than they should have been.... I ended up accidentally installing a German stock ROM, not realising that it let me select the wrong one to download, after I realised I should pick the EVR region from samsung-updates it was sorted.
While I was stiil rooted and running TWRP, I installed Triangle Away, set it up and running and then rebooted, reset counter, went STRAIGHT to download mode, used Odin3 to install the correct ROM, without rebooting I then installed Stock recovery. After that, I noticed applications were crashing as soon as the device booted up the first time, so, I went to Recovery mode and reset Cache, then Factory Reset. It's fine now.
The reason for not selecting Reset in Odin3 was because it would go straight to the OS and I might not be able to catch it, but I wanted to install the stock Recovery before it booted up.
Yeah ill keep this in mind, I already got the .normal status whilst still being rooted, I had the xposed framework installed with busybox and a.few others, I deleted all those and rebooted, and I got the normal status again

All Things Root LG G Flex

As I realize that there are probably a number of threads regarding rooting of the LG G Flex, I wanted to make a simple guide in my own words to sort of give back to the developing community. I will be providing a number of attachments so that you won't have to go searching yourself. Before proceeding with this make any necessary backups and realize that this will void you're warranty and quite possibly brick or screw up you're phone and this is to be done with caution. I am in no way responsible for what might or might not happen.
To be able to install these apps go to Settings, General, Security, and click on Unknown Sources and click Yes.
All of these apps will ask for Root Access and if you have completed Step 2, a window will pop up asking if you want to give these apps Root Access and do so by clicking on Grant.
Step 1: Download Stump Root and use brute force method and give it about 5 to 10 minutes to do it's thing.
Step 2: Once gaining root access go and download SuperSU as you will need this to grant root privileges.
Step 3: Download Freedom Flex as this will let you flash a custom recovery that will work on this device. Choose either ClockworkMod(CWM) or TWRP it is your choice. I recommend CWM.
Step 4: Go and download BusyBox as you will need this to run some apps and click install.
That's it! You now have root access and a custom recovery to allow you to flash such things as custom ROMS, etc..
Credit and applause goes out to the developers of these apps you guys are the real MVP :good:

It says "device is patched, sorry". I'm on T-Mobile D95920S. Flashed back to stock via the lg flash tool and the D95920H.kdz then took the first update to D95920M. Then went into the clock setting and unchecked " use network time". Then changed the date to March 18, 2015. So the next update would prompt me to download. I did then installed then downloaded everything from your links. And STUMP ROOT did not work. Didn't even try to work.
That's a problem I've never seen before maybe it has something to do with going back to stock let me get back to you.

I went back to jellybean and came all the way up through the updates trying it on everyone. Only jellybean 4.2.2 rooted with stumproot. I even read somewhere that you must delete all SuperSU files left over after unrooting and have no signs of it being rooted previously or it might cause it to think its already rooted or fail. I don't know why or how true that is. Bit better safe than sorry.
I can root the D95920M update with towelroot but that's as far as I can get rooted.
I'm gonna extract the update and edit out the last line in the meta-inf folder that reboots the phone after update since it will update using twrp. And then navigate back to TWRP HOME screen and install a SuperSU.zip and also flash my flashable bumped TWRP.ZIP maybe I can gain root again and TWRP before I ever reboot. I'll keep ya filled in on what happens.
Okay, I've tried towel root before on my current phone but it never worked, stump root was the only one click root I got to work.

Hi, I mean to say I installed the Freedom Flex app and pressed Install TWRP and nothing happens. Do I have to download any .zip. If so, which one.
ALso when try to boot to recovery, (i.e. press power and volume down key together), nothing happens, it just gets stuck on LG screen.
Yes, I am rooted and Freedom flex has got root priveleges
Does it say this on the bottom of the app?

Also since you have root I recommend downloading this app called boot droid make sure to give it root access. It will allow you to reboot into recovery easy. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.impsycho.bootdroid

LGL23 not working
Just some heads up that this method didnt work for my LGL23.
There is a stump version 1.0 that comes with a file g_flex_rootkit.zip that works for LGL23 on 4.2.2.
If you have a LGL23 from KDDI in Japan you might want to check out my summary of experience.

Force closes after 5.1 update

I just received the 5.1 update today. I'm on sprint, if that matters. Immediately after the update, I'm getting bombarded with these force closes, immediately returning after hitting either "ok" or "report". It will continue for 3 or 4 minutes, then clear up for a few minutes, then returning when I open an app.
I'm stock, not rooted. Since I'm not rooted, I'm not sure what I can do other than reboot or factory reset? This is the first phone I haven't rooted since I got into android. I'm feeling like I should just root /wipe/flash, but before I do, any other suggestions to quickly clear up the force closes? Thanks!

Thanks! Unfortunately that hasn't solved it. I booted into the stock recovery and wiped cache. Still no dice. I'll factory reset next I guess!
I guess if you don't want to root I would get some cache cleaning apps

Well I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the most updated stock image using fastboot, manually. All is well now. It took longer to get my computer and drivers working than actually fixing the phone. Now that my bootloader is unlocked, I guess it's time to root. Thanks for the advice.
Do yourself a favor and get the Nexus toolkit you can run commands by hand or let the tool do it for you.

You don't need root or any special "app" to see what is going on.
You need a LOGCAT.
And to post it here so that somebody who understands it can interpret it.

I don't agree. At least not entirely. There are enough people here to interpret a logcat, it could be done in seconds.
But it does come down to how significant of a setup you're dealing with, and how well equipped you are to understand and manage a problem.
My wife's hammerhead did something weird not long ago, google applications continuous force close. A quick examination of the logcat yielded a "can not downgrade database from version 3 to 2" problem on the gms package. Kind of weird, since it just happened out of the blue, she's running factory + root on the thing. So I wiped the database, rebooted, and its back to normal. Took 2 minutes. A wipe and reload and reconfigure would have taken hours.
For my own devices, last time I did a "wipe" was in... 2012. I did a full backup and restore from my last phone to my N6, wiped/adjusted/reset whatever databases and configurations didn't match between the Samsung Relay custom 5.0 build (I did userdata "upgrade" the whole way up from 4.0 on that device, without wiping even ONCE) and the N6. Saved tons of time.
In the time it took you to respond to this message I could have backed up my whole phone on titanium backup. Wiped it. flashed it. Reroot it and restored all my settings and applications. That's my point.

Maybe or maybe not you mean. Caches inconsistent with the current version how Android are usually the cause of this or caches that got corrupted in some manner . And as you know you never restore caches.
My 5 years experience with Android dictates that these problems are usually EASILY resolved with a wipe of the cache/phone. perhaps your personal evidence is different.
Yes I personally would fire up system info and look at the logs before I wiped my caches and if that didn't work I would wipe the phone.

How to Downgrade to Root-able Version

Ok so I accidentally upgraded my phone to g925vvru2aof1 verison, and when I researched to see if I could root I found it wasn't supported. My question is, can I downgrade this version to a version that you can root? Or am I stuck on this update? Thanks in advance for your help!

The OE2 build you can downgrade.
The OF1 build you cannot.
Very sad. Very disheartening.
Have you tried this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s6-edge/development/trailblazer101-lightlycleaned-rooted-rom-t3157394
I was already rooted and couldn't take OF1 update, so I don't know if this would work for you.
Basically, odin back to OC3 or OE2 and also odin the firmware package called "Flash Me Package" by Trailblazer before rebooting the system.
This might enable you ping-pong root the OC3. but you would still be on OF1 radio.

How the flash me package works is it installs the OF1 radios onto the rom while maintaining the OE2 bootloader, kernel, etc.
You can not downgrade, that rom is a hybrid which lets you but the full of1 cant

The password is fghdbnfgdfgb19545525 (really, just copy paste it). I tried it. It works. Here are the steps:
1) Put the phone in download mode (With the phone turned off press down+home+power at the same) and flash the file through Odin (using the second file, the one it says AP or PDA (depending of your version)). It takes a couple seconds. After that the phone will boot normaly. Then, if you reboot the phone, the next time you turn on the phone, you'll see a big icon of a locker but unlocked and just below it will say 'custom', just like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
(If it didn't work (you keep getting the normal boot screen), then try to flash it again until you succeed. It may take some tries.)
2) Up to that point the phone will be technically rooted, but you can't do 'root stuff' yet. So what do you do? You download the Kingroot apk (from the official site) and install it. Now you'll be able to fully use the root. The only downside; its a temporary root (every time you reboot the device you'll have to install root again from the Kingroot app)
is g925vvrs4cqa3 rootable or can i downgrade to one that is? not one post about this baseband cut ones that i made...
I downloaded the file but only have 1 file. a boot.img file Do i flash that in AP or in the BL spot in ODIN?

How to Root the Moto Z2 Force T-Mobile/Sprint

Hi everybody! Just here to let people know how to gain root on their shiny new Z2 force!
Straight and simple here's what your going to need:
Fastboot and adb installer
Download This for T-Mobile Rooted August Image For T-Mobile
Download this for Sprint Rooted August Image for Sprint
Installation Instructions
1. Make sure your on T-Mobiles latest update (August)
2. Unlocking your bootloader is a MUST!
3. Open the newly installed adb and fastboot you just installed. You should get a blank command screen.
4. Reboot your device to bootloader mode using the command adb reboot bootloader (make sure usb debugging is on)
5. On the bootloader screen your going to type the command Fastboot flash boot and LEAVE IT THERE DONT DO ANYTHING!
6. Next your going to go to the downloaded rooted august image and drag that to the command screen
7. Once that is done you should see something along the lines of "fastboot flash boot "C:\path\to\boot\Magisk_Moto_August.img"
8. Once you see that hit enter and once you see its done on the bootloader screen click start and it should boot up.
9. Once that is done download this Magisk Manager
10. Install it and BOOM you should have root!
Special thanks to:
@topjohnwu for the updated pixel magisk
@Chainfire for everything he has already done for the community.
Awesome! Today is going to go by so slowly waiting for the Sprint image lol
So, now we can work on ways to fix using third party messaging, notifications, etc? After I turned off the Moto Display the screen rarely lights up with notifications.

Awesome. Does this wipe data?
Edit: answered my own question. I took the plunge and it does not wipe. I've never used magisk before. Install via the recommended direct install? Sorry for all the questions, this is a little different than rooting my last three Xperias and I don't really want to become the first guy to brick his z2 on xda lol.
Nope
Once you flash this you should just need the manager and it should be rooted. If it's telling you to install then something went wrong

Sorry for all the questions, this is a little different than rooting my last three Xperias and I don't really want to become the first guy to brick his z2 on xda lol.

I'm guessing it's installed. I am able to backup with titanium but unable to delete bloatware (tested on Amazon app and received this error message) I'm guessing it has something to do with the r/w permissions but I'm not sure how to change them on this phone.

Hmmm. I tried both methods and both said I have been granted rewrite permissions but I still get the same error message from tibu. It's not a big deal, just strange. Adaway installed and is working fine. Those are the only two root apps I've tested.
Can you uninstall any other apps?
This is great thank you

I just downloaded an app from the play store and deleted it with tibu with no problem.

Seriously though if you need any testing done I'm here to help out!
