Can´t connect Android Auto to my Moto X Force (Droid Turbo 2 in the US) - Android Auto General

Hi I have some issues connecting my Moto X Force ( which is the same cellphone as the Droid Turbo 2 that Verizon sells in the US). I previously had a Nexus 6 and connected it to a Honda Civic 2016 model without any issues. Yesterday I bought a Moto X Force and to my surprise I just couldn't connect to Android Auto.
I am running android 6.0 so it should be compatible with my cellphone but for some reason it tells me that my device isn't compatible.
First the phone tells me that I need to download some apps ( which I already have downloaded), after I press "Accept" it tells me the following:
"Your device isn't compatible with this version"
Then after pressing OK I get a screen that says something went wrong, that I need to download android auto, google maps, google play and the google app. Even when I have already downloaded all of them!
I've tried deleting and reinstalling the android auto app, resetting my stereo head unit and even enabled the USB debugging mode, but so far everything has been useless.
Any one else has the same issue I do?
I would appreciate very much your suggestions on how to solve this problem, thank you!

Make sure you use the original USB cable that came with the phone and have Bluetooth enabled. Android Auto works fine on my Moto X Pure with Android 6.0.

I already tried this before making this post, but thanks for the suggestion! The moto X pure works because it runs a pure version of Android.

Did you try doing a factory restore on the phone? Wouldn't hurt to try.

2016 VW Golf Android Auto won't work with LG G4

Hi, I just recently got a new Golf with the app connect system that has Android Auto functionality built in. However, I just can't get it to work with my G4. I've downloaded the Android Auto app, I've tried using different cables but every time I plug it in the AA app seems to just crash. It also won't connect manually when I try to connect it in the car. I live in Australia. Is there anything else I can do/download to make this work? Thanks.
Don't know if this will help, but try to set the Android Auto on a headunit. Mine was set to Mirrorlink by default.
Maybe in the settings you should define it to choose Android Auto instead ?
Make sure the phone is unlocked when its plugged in. Also, try plugging in the phone before you turn on the car. My Nexus 5 is able to connect 90% of time on my 2016 GTI.
I just picked up my GTI last night. The salesman couldn't get Android Auto to connect to my AT&T G4. Android Auto was set as the preferred connection. I've tried connecting with my phone locked, unlocked, plugged in before/after the car is on, plugged in after/before the phone is unlocked, USB debugging on and off, MTP, charging only, PTP.

I work at a vw/Skoda dealership. I am tech savvy. I have tried I phones and various Androids with Mirrorlink/Android Auto and to be honest the results are pretty Mixed. I phones mostly pair OK but with so many iterations of Android topped with manufactures bloatware its impossible. I have failed to pair phones that are compatible and tried every app every cable and every configuration even the Manufacturers are clueless. Some models I managed to pair took me 40 or 50 attemps. Android Auto is in its infancy and stability will take time. I managed an S5 with ease and S6 with great difficulty a HTC one A9 which is very unstable. A HTC one M8, but didn't manage the Huawei P8 yet but I'm working on it. I failed with a galaxy S4 and succeeded with another one. I have an LG G4 on the way so that will be interesting. I have had 100% success pairing I iPhones but customers tell us the connection drops out. However I do think Android Auto offers more in terms of functionality if you can live with the fact that you may not ever get it working.
Anything new with G4
Did you manage to make the LG G4 working?
Hello
I had the same problem with my VW Passat GTE 2016 + LG G4. Solved it by going into the settings in the car (under App Connect) and chose Android Auto as default instead of MirrorLink which was the default before.
(although it doesn't work very well anyway, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't)
I have Android Auto 1.6.2400

Just to confuse the issue even more, my vw connects to android auto pretty much perfectly every time & yet I only discovered by accident that the default setting on the head unit was set to mirror link so maybe that's not the cause for you after all. It's pretty basic software so far it seems.

I picked up my new Golf today, but it doesn't have the App Connect. My phone is an Oneplus One with MM Cos 13, do you think Android Auto can work with it?
Just my experience : I own a 2016 Jetta with App Connect and a Nexus 4. I had similar issues with AA connections first. The phone was running Android L 5.1..1. 2 weeks ago I went ahead and installed CM13 and now AA works way better : I never had a connection failure since... Really a plug and forget experience now. So I think Android M is better for Android Auto. Moreover I read that latest AA update includes fixes for connection stability.

Moto Z: Android Auto do not connect (VW Golf 2016 stock radio)

Hello,
I kindly request your support for this issue. I can not connect my Moto Z (XT-1650-03, Type: M1B90) Android Auto to my VW Golf 2016.
- Stock Android 7.0, all related apps including the Play Services up to date.
- Recently updated to 7.0, but same behavior as 6.0.1 (factory version)
I read that this could be a cable issue but I already tried 4 cables without success (including stock cable).
Problem: Android Auto is not connected with my Moto Z phone.
Question:
Am I missing something?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Behaviors:
- The phone is always charging while the cable is connected to the car.
- When the cable is connected, the car and the phone attempt to connect but the connection is broken afterwards. The car displays that the connection is on going and the phone prompts to me the connection type, after some seconds the connection is "broken" before it was finished
- Sometimes after several tries I can see my phone listed in the car for less than a second and then the connection is "broken".
- The default connection for USB is set for MTP in my Moto Z, but, the charging mode is always triggered first when connected.
- I can only see in my car "Reading USB device" which keep flashing.
- In my phone I can see an upcoming notification about this connection and then it disappears. This notification flashes every ~5 seconds.
- I can connect my phone with the PC and connect it as MTP to copying files and the connection is never lost (using the same cables).
Cables:
All cables were Male USB Type A to Male USB Type C.
1. Moto Z Stock Cable:
The connection is started but never finished, the phone and the car keep trying to connect while the cable is connected.
2. Belkin USB-IF Certified 2.0: Same as the Moto Z stock cable. Bought from amazon:
3. Generic 'White' Cable: No connection at all.
4. Generic 'Black' Cable:
Similar to Moto Z stock and Belkin cable, the only difference is that this cable sometimes the connection was finished and the Moto Z was listed in the car phone list for a brief moment (~1 second).
All the cables are 3 Feet lenght but the Belkin which was 6 Feet lenght.
Additional Information:
I purchased the Moto Z one week ago, before this phone I had a Moto X 2nd (XT-1097) which was working correctly with my car. I tried several micro USB cables for the Moto X without any problem (stock and other brands).
Using the same car and my Moto X 2nd I tried two android versions:
- Stock Lollipop 5.x, worked OK but the contact pictures were not synced.
- Custom CM14.1 Nougat 7.1, worked OK (contact pictures synced correctly).
Have you got Bluetooth connected before you start?
Have you got app connect on the head unit?
Mtp is a red herring in my experience.
Sony z5, 2016 golf with nav pro and app connect working well.
Sent from my sumire using Tapatalk
I have a Skoda Octavia VRs with same head unit and it works flawlessly with a HTC 10 (personal) but is always problematic with my work Moto G Play. Both are running versions of Marshmallow.
Sometimes the Moto G will stop working mid way through a navigation session which seems to be a result of the head unit "losing" the Moto G.
I have got it to work by uninstalling the AA app on the Moto G and reinstalling then ensuring i follow ALL on screen requests on the Moto G (both AA and system requests) before it works. However i have little confidence in it working..........
I have a Skode Superb with the same head unit. One of the problems most people have is with the clock of the headunit. You have to set the time to "Automatic (GPS)" or something alike. My headunit is in dutch so unfortunately I can't tell you what the exact words are. This might solve your problem.
Hi, I had the same issue on Polo 2016.
In my case, the issue was the connecting mode on the Android phone.
If you have in notification area the shortcut to change the USB connecting mode while cable connected, try to change it to MTP or other (mine worked with MIDI).
If you don't have it, just enable the Developer mode (tap 5 times on Compilation Number on Settings App > About).
Then on Settings app under developer options, check on network section the USB mode; switch there to more appropriate mode.
Hope to have helped.
Hello,
Thanks for your support and sorry for the delay, I was pretty busy. I already tried everything that you suggested without luck:
@goRt: Yes my car has App Connect, in fact the android auto works fine with my Moto X CM 14.1. I tried with bluetooth on and off.
@freenfast: I uninstalled the android auto app, even I performed a factory reset for my Moto Z and for the car, afterwards I only installed the android auto and it didn't worked.
@ljo13: I could not find that option in my car, I searched in all the menues without luck. In date & time menu I only found the summer time option and time and date formats.
My car do not have an in built navy, so, it is possible we have a different HU. My phone is set to get the cell network time zone.
@bluryfusion: In the past I only tried with MTP, but, unfortunately it didn't worked. If I select as default other connections, then, the car displayed "USB device not supported" and then the connection is automatically changed to MTP again. I tried with: Charging, PTP, RNDIS, Audio Source and MIDI.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The android auto connection is only possible with MTP with my phone and car, but, the problem is that the connection is broken every single time. Sometimes my device is recognized by the car for a brief moment (~1 second) and then the connection is broken and it tries to connect again; so, what I see in my phone and car is an 'inifnite' loop of Trying to connect -> Connection broken -> Trying to connect.
Note: I also get a new Belkin USB 3.1 type A to Type C cable and it's the same issue.
Hello,
A little update, I found that in the notification access I had two Android Auto entries:
1. Android Auto
2. Android Auto (Car Mode)
When you install the AA into your phone, you are prompted to activate the first one only, meaning that the Car Mode remains inactive.
Anyhow, I activate both entries and still the same behavior
To find this, open Settings > Apps > click cogwheel > Special Access > Notification access
Sorry to resurrect an old thread here guys, but I think I have found the solution to this problem...
I was having the same issue with my Ford Sync 3, would work with my old Moto x play but would just disconnect when trying to load android auto with my new Moto z play
After playing about with both phones, I noticed on my Moto x that when connected I would get a Google play services notification saying that my car was now connected, which wasn't happening g on my Moto z
Checking the Google play services version number I noticed that my Moto x (which is on lineage 14.1) is running a later version then my Moto z (which is on stock 7.0 ROM). A quick Google gave me a link for the latest version of Google play apps apk, after installing android auto now boots up fine on my Moto z!!!

Any Roms work with Android Auto?

I've tried three Roms (2 Oreo and 1 nougat) and I can't get Android Auto to work with any of them. Has anyone gotten Android Auto to work with any of the Roms available here?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
It has worked well for me on the latest 7.1.2 Pure Nexus ROM. I am currently running AICP Oreo and it works great. It also worked on S.I.X. ROM Oreo and Republic of Madness Oreo ROMs for me.
What issues are you having?
Hi, I've been running Android Auto perfectly with Nitrogen OS until 2 weeks. Suddenly I can't connect my N6 correctly anymore. My car (Ford with SYNC system) tells that it can"t find Android Auto. I tried Stock version of N6 Nougat, S.I.X Oreo rom and same issue..
Could it be related to some app update (maps, google, AA,...) ?
Sometimes I get a red error screen from AA app telling me about "communication error code 17" but I can't find any reference about that anywhere.
any tip ?

AA - 2.7.573953-release
Google - 7.15.19.21.arm
Waze - 4.32.0.2
I don't use google maps anymore now that Waze is available for AA.
One thing that may work is to delete your phone out of Sync and delete Sync out of your phone both under bluetooth and AA. Once you have them removed. Just plug the phone into sync and let it re-setup everything (I don't even pair bluetooth separately, I let AA do the bluetooth pairing).
What version # of Sync3 do you have?
AAuto works great on my N6 with LineageOS on my Kia Sportage. It's a brand new 2018 Kia purchased two days ago. One of the main reasons for that purchase was AAuto in the electronics package.

Try clearing data for AA and see if that helps.
Still can't get it to work in a 2017 Chevy Tahoe. I have now tried 4 different cords and I am currently on Six Oreo Rom. I know the head unit is compatible since I had it working with the pixel 2 xl during the brief time I had that phone.
Do I need to change any settings such as USB debugging? What setting should I set it to when I connect the cord (i.e. Transfer Files, etc)?

Try going into settings > six settings > Other > look for Enable MTP instead charging when connect to PC
Make sure that is UN-ticked. That will block AA from working for some reason.

G6 plus and Android Auto - any issues?

Hi,
I usually wouldnt bother to ask (as it nearly always works, and when it doesn't its a cable issue) but I noticed the X4 8.1 update just broke Android Auto indirectly. I know the G6 plus ships with 8.0 but anyone have any issues?
Thanks.
Hi,
I'm waiting now for my new device (Moto G6+, ordered yesterday). And as I use all the time AA, I'll send you info when I received it.
However, I need to say that my current Moto G5+, and my ancient Moto G4, both works with AA with the Stock firmware without toubles.
Regards.
I did experience frequent restarts of AA , settings are the same as with my Samsung S7.
Uninstalled AA for now, will check again later when 8.1 is out.
XT1926-3/RETEU G6+
No problems with AA here.

Then change your USB cable... I suffered a lot of problems with four or five different regular cables, until I changed to a premium USB cable and the problems disappeared. I feel the problems isn't in fact the wire, but the quality of the connector. With the vibrations of the car the connector needs to be very good.
I hope it helps!
I already bought a 5er set from Volutz before the device arrived as this is my first USB-C phone. Volutz cables are usually of a very, very good quality (I already had a set of their micro-USB cables).
I guess the problem is the connector of the device itself as this happens with the original cable and all 5 from Volutz.Strange thing is that my battery monitor tool does not show anything strange while charging. Will wait and see what happens if 8.1 or P will be available before claiming for a new device.
Hi,
Tested in my car with the last firmware of Moto G6+, and no problem at all! All works perfect with AA.
It was a faulty connector of the device itself - got a replacement device wednesday and the issue is no more.
Not good for G4
The Moto G4 does NOT work totally with AA. Only the hands free calling does. The mapping does not. Motorola confirmed this. Plus, my Moto G4 only has 7.0.
How did you install Android Auto on Moto G6 Plus? I want to install it on my device, but Google Store says that this app is not compatible with my device and won't allow me to download it.

Strange, you should be able to install it through the playstore... Anyway, you can always do it manually; jist search for the android auto apk through Google, copy to phone and install it.

AA - need help isolating issue

Hey all,
I have a Oneplus 6 running XXX Rom and a 2018 Fiat 500X with the factory Android auto head unit.
My wife has an LG G6 that is stock.
With my phone, I have to clear android auto data and cache every time I want to use the app. If that doesn't work, I have to delete the app and re-install it. If I don't do this, Android auto won't start up. If I don't go through this process and just plug the phone into the headunit via the USB cable, the headunit just thinks it's a USB storage device and tries to play music from the phone, only to display, 'device not supported', on the screen.
My wifes LG G6 works almost every time, but is very very picky with which cable we use. If we use the cable supplied with her phone, AA will drop out after a few minutes. If we use the OP6 cable that came with my phone, it will stay connected for the entire trip.
Based on the fact that it works with her phone, I'm guessing that the issue is with my phone. How do I fix it?
Sometimes, my phone will tell me that AA is connected and running, but there will be nothing on the headunit.
Anything I can try?

Haven't approached dealer as I would like to determine where the fault lies first. Pretty sure it isn't the unit though, as other phones work fine.
I have MIDI selected on the OP6, with USB debug on. I think I have tried everything and it just won't connect more than once per install.
