Any root method does void the warranty as it trips Knox....

In the past there was a way to reset Knox for warranty work. I had this on my Note 3.
Is this still a feature for the Note 5?

Negative. Right now the only ways to root are to flash a root kernel via ODIN or custom recovery, or flash systemless root via custom recovery. Both ways require flashing "unauthorized software" which will trip KNOX, and there is no way to reset it.

thank you for the detailed explanation. However i have one more question, does rooting has negative effect on the quality of camera or performance of phone.
in sony rooting phone destroys the camera quality so just wondering if same could happen to my note 5.

Negative. As long as you're still on a TouchWiz based ROM, the camera quality will remain the same since the proprietary drivers won't be changed. Rooting alone won't change anything about your ROM.

Nonroot vs Root

Hey guys, im stuck on deciding whether i should root my note 4 or not. What's really bugging me is that i will trip knox and will it devalue the phone?
Any benefits of rooting it right now? vs nonroot
i've seen some threads of rooting problems with some apps and such and im not sure if i should wait or not. Im coming from a rooted s4 and i kinda miss being rooted. Come on guys post what you think here!

Root if something you want needs it, otherwise there's not any need. Do you need tomatoes? I dunno.

As stated above, root if you have the NEED to root. For me, I got plenty. Smoothness, debloating, batterylife, awesome rooted apps out there (I know..only three reasons.) For others, they need a specific app they need to run on their phones and it will need root.
If non of these are an issue to you, do not root. If you cannot think of a reason to root without having the benefit of root vs non root listed out to you, I will advice you do not root because that tells me you actually do not have the need to root. Make sense?
As far as knox is concern...I will say only trip if if you have no need to send it straight to Samsung while your phone is still functioning. I say this because they will send it right back to you. Now if your phone is fried, how will they check exactly if knox is tripped? The carriers do not care, tmobile do not care. Most of the workers think nova is a rooted app. Thats how much they know about root.
You go to a carrier, simply do not give them a reason to think you are rooted. People like to take a phone with custom roms and custom kernels on there...thats not smart. They boot your phone, a message at the top most left of the phone will tell them you are rooted. Always go to the store with stock ^.^
Hope that helps!
I have the Note 4. I root it about 2 weeks later after I got it. My reason: get ride of all the bloat junk that I dont need; now I can write to my SD card; unlimited hotspot; lean machine and good battery life. Its good to have su access.

Im in the same boat, sorta. Ive always rooted. Everything i had, even the old windows phones. This is the longest ive lasted non rooted. Im getting the itch. My question, if i root, flash twrp, does it erase my data? Not a big deal really, but im on level 110 on ea sports king of the course. Would suck to start over.

Neither rooting nor flashing a recovery will wipe your data. Some phones ship with the unlockable bootloaders and the unlocking process wipes the data (for example, on Google Nexus devices). But the bootloaders on T-Mobile Samsung phones are unlocked by default, so flash away

Rooted is the way to go! Only reason I haven't rooted yet is because I'm waiting for Android 5.0 to drop next month hopefully ! Then I will gladly root. Phone is much better when it is under your control.

Those of you who rooted the Note 4, can you confirm if root disables:
Private mode - Possible fix (old fix)
S-Health (maybe only if using Xposed) - Possible fix?
Screen Mirroring (wireless) - Possible fix?
Recording calls (?)
I would want to root mainly to gain access to the external SD card, possibility to enable/disable flight mode using profiles and wouldn't mind about OTA ora Knox 0x01.
But it's annoying to lose those functions for me.
Updated previous post with some links to possible fixes.

I rooted but on a custom ROM and I have zero issues with private mode or S-health. I guess the issue is when you're only rooted on stock ROM. But apparently there's walkarounds for those issues.

Thanks, but actually I was interested on (possible) issues on stock ROM and, most importantly, if the walkarounds really work.

[Q] Pingpong root and Twrp Manager....???

Ok, so i googled a bit and do see that some people have had issues trying this, but most of the examples i was reading were on devices from carriers with locked bootloaders. Since the tmo version has an unloacked BL was wondering if anyone has tried this or not?
I was thinking of simply using flashify or twrp manager to install recovery from within my currently rooted (superuser) rom. Most people that have tried using locked bootloaders endup with a soft brick from what i have seen. Just not sure how much the unlocked bootloader would help us in this situation.
I know i can just use CF auto root but was trying to do it without tripping knox really. However, i have never had issues with any warranty through tmobile (rooted, tripped knox, whatever) and with the announcement of android pay, i am way less interested in samsung pay so tripped knox wouldnt be the end of the world... but still curious
EDIT: So apparently chainfire just released something called flashfire that appears it can do exactly what i am looking for. Anyone else looking for the same should check it out...

So, this will not trip knox? I'm currently stock waiting for the 5.1 update to see if it's worth it to keep stock or root my phone. I just want to root it so bad because I could hypothetically get double battery life with the tweaks I would do. I'm interested in Samsung Pay (sorta) but if Google Wallet/Android Pay will have the same functions, then IDC.

If you install recovery no matter what method it will trip. For Roms, Flashfire won't trip as long as you don't flash boot.img aka kernel. You need to remove it before flashing

Is there a easy safe way to root?

The device in question is the note 5 running Android 7.0?
Yes, It is easier than ever. Install TWRP Recovery via Odin; then you install the latest Magisk and voila!

Buddy easy or not it all depends on knowing the rights & wrongs by their pros & cons but I would suggest that you back up your phones before you want to root your phone bcoz I feel that you are new to rooting Note 5.
If you are on warranty or so your Knox will be tripped so there is no safe method root here bcoz without Knox your phone to be covered by warranty.
If you are not on warranty then having custom TWRP from official twrp site for model & flashing through Odin software through pc is recommended.
Magisk is the best rooting & addons modules for any supporting phones in my view.
Perhaps it will be better if you can state whether you know how to get into recovery & download mode of your phone. Also slightly share your knowhow on your understanding so that I can take you to step by step or just guide you to Magisk forum depending on your depth of knowledge.

Rooting, does it break anything? Can Oreo be rooted?

As mentioned above, does unlocking bootloader and rooting break anything? My previous Sony Xperia XZ Premium had high noise in images and image enhancements were no longer working after unlocking bootloader.
1 - Can I root after updating to Android 8 Oreo or must I first root when using stock Nougat?
2 - If rooting, unlocking bootloader, aside from Samsung Pay not working, anything else affected? Camera or other software such as image enhancements?
My Note 8 was only ordered yesterday and I'm due to receive it Monday so was thinking of rooting as I have some apps that require root access. Thanks.

Yes you can root Oreo to easy if you have exynos version you cant update to Oreo if you already on Nougat rooted you must first unroot and flash stock firmware than update to Oreo and than root...in other case update to Oreo than root
with root you lose warrianty and samsung pay, knox and you cant update firmware until you not unroot.....about other apps like camera or something you dont need worry root not break it its work normal.
about root if you dont know why you need it than you not need it. I root my phone because need it for few mods and apps which need root. i thinking now to go back to stock and update to May security patch than root again.

For Exynos devices:
1. You can root on oreo as easy as on nougat! You only need correct Odin and TWRP version for oreo.
2. You will also lose Samsung pass, security folder and Samsung health. But Samsung health you can easy get back working with an build.prop entry.
Samsung pay, Samsung pass and security folder you will lose permanently

^ Thank you so much for your response. I am not at all bothered or interested to use Samsung pass & security, will never use either, just further bloatware I intend to get rid of!
I ordered my dual sim Note 8 from Middle East, 99% will be the Exynos version. I shall confirm once received the model number. I'm hoping it's the Exynos version as performance and battery life is even better than the Snapdragon one.
There are a number of apps that I use which require access such as root explorer, titanium backup and Adaway.
After rooting, if you want to get back to stock will the Knox count still be triggered and if so can you unroot and get back to stock firmware and still be able to use samsung pass?

Not much to those that don't need apps that require root.
But the ones that like custom roms and kernels and Viper4android audio and removing bloat and using backup programs like titanium backup and other things and like to mod their phone their way. Root is necessary! (They don't care for Knox or Samsung pass or secure folder or any related Knox feature.)

Try the rom threads for note 8 for custom roms. Look at weta rom for music type rom if you're into music for eg. But make sure it say for n950F and Not n950u.
I've just been reading haven't rooted mine yet.
Try them out and see what you like.
Titanium backup is good for backup of apps and there data.
Adaway great for system wide ad blocking.
Make sure to backup your efs partitions first!! Lose that and no imei and no cell network.

TWRP/Root & Official Stock Firmware

Hi.
Is it possible to flash TWRP and root with magisk, and then flash relevant stock firmware updates from Samsung using Odin as and when they come?
If so, would flashing said firmwares remove root and TWRP, and/or wipe data? Requiring re flashing TWRP and rooting again after each update?
Basically I'd like to stay relatively stock, just with root and TWRP. But I want to be able to keep the phone up to date without having to use custom ROMs.
And yes, I know once TWRP or root are used Knox is tripped and there's no way to get it back or magically make the warranty valid again. I don't care about that.

Yep, it's not great...
Instead of waiting, you could do a search on your own. This stuff is not from yesterday.
The answer is in s8, s8+, note8, s8, s9+ section. Basically someone has discussed it since Sammy introduced 7 days oem lockout, and ways to circumvent it... Those that know, don't feel like repeating endlessly, when time and search do the job.
The rest discuss wallpapers, screen protectors, cases, and justifications why root is no longer necessary (this from North American users, as if they could).
