Are these criticisms of the Mi5 camera fixable in some way? - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

I read that the pictures taken on the MI5 lack detail and that this is due to heavy noise-filtering. What solutions could there be to this? Could using a different app resolve things? Would there be any detriments to doing so? Is it a hardware or firmware issue?

It's pre-release hardware using pre-release software, just wait until the phones get into reviewer hands before jumping to conclusions.

mate 8 has same sensor like mi5
mate 8 camera is lacking details
so its the sensor that has something to do

Wait for the reviews after it's released

Well, that isn't a foregone conclusion. Other factors could be at play.

Worth buying for 250€/300$

Hi.
I've got an offer to buy a 1 month old Nokia 8 for 250 euro/300 dollars.
I've been looking at the Nokia 7 plus which is about 390 euro/460 dollar in my country.
I've got a Iphone 7 as it is, but i really wanna go back to Android now that i finally have the option and my all time favorite phone is Nexus 1, so i want so close to stock android as possible.
The biggest fear i've got is the camera. I don't want anything worse then i got today. Would you say it's worse/same/better?
Which one would you buy if you had the chance?
Thanks in advance!
Look at the specs. You will see the Nokia 8 much better than 7th.
NOKIA 8 is one of the most underrated telefon, SD 835 and 250 € it's a great deal.

It's the software that is crap. With Google Camera apk you get fabulous pictures.

You can replace it with Google camera app and you get premium feeling.
Depends on what you want the phone for... For me I like to try new new new, Android never my main phone, just a playground, I want to try AOSP, I like to try latest Android... My main phone is iPhone.
At the moment Nokia is not keeping up to their promise, they're busy with launching more models and Nokia 8 is not getting their May Security Patch yet, and it's not Project Treble... Camera also has no Pro Manual mode yet.
So if you want a long lasting software patching phone I suppose any of their new Android One is better...
2 days ago I was so tempted to sell off my 6 months old Nokia 8 to replace with Mi Mix 2s because of Android P beta preview. Even my Mi 5 running LineAge OS has May Security Patch!
Updated: just tried out Google camera (as others suggested) on Nokia 8, it crash my phone when I turn on Motion option, and HDR set to High quality isn't great, mainly just over exposed compared to Medium (Default).

Premium feel is when the camera works fluently without mods. Even with mods the camera is mediocre and can't compete with any flagships past few years.

You're either a hater or you haven't held a Nokia 8 in your hands that uses Google Camera.
The results I get with this thing are better than most of the recent flagships and almost matches the images you can get on a Pixel 2.
Pls refrain from posting bull$h!t and confusing the OP. Thx.
I'm neither of what you accuse. I'm just not giving false hope for OP coming from iPhone 7 that Nokia 8 camera is on par with competition.
https://www.dxomark.com/nokia-8-review-nokias-return-high-end-segment/
You can get a little better results with mods of course, but it won't fix the limitations of that Sony sensor. It's still slow and mediocre in low light / indoors.

The difference is day and night. It's not "a little better". Low light as well - drastically different than the default camera app processing.
Pls end your nonsense. It's HMD's fault that they screwed up the camera app. But this is a huge and significant mod that breathes new life into this phone's camera capabilities.
The camera really is bad , i have the nokia 8 and i agree
But also agree that with google camera it works a thousand times better and it has no problem matching the quality of the photos of iphone 7
Regarding to everything else , nokia 8 is better in everything , snapdragon 835 is just fabulous , ram management is also good
Batttery life , power and everything else is close to the iphone 7 , if you want to go back to android , sell iph7 , win big money and buy nokia 8 , is the best choice

Installing another manufacturer's algorithms won't fix the slow shutter speed and low light capabilities of the 1.12 um sensor.
Every android phone that i've tried has some pluses and minuses in google camera app mods. Usually low light images are better but that's it, then you might experience glare in day shots or something else.. oh and you lose all the gimmicks that the oem has put on its software/hardware (nokia 8 dual lens for example and ozo sound in video).
So it's a hit or miss.. Especially when there are no apks that are optimized for nokia 8.
And believe me, i would love to be wrong in this, but in this current state the camera is mediocre.. with or without mods. I hope nokia would use that second lens to improve low light..

Agree, I spend more money (on non Chinese brands) because of Nokia's quality, it's losing the purpose of pay a premium for Zeiss Lens and not able to benefit the Dual or PIP features in the stock app. The lens (and it's features) and USB 3 was the only reason Nokia worth the premium for, else it is just a Mi 6.

Thing is, the need for unlocking of bootloader needs to be pushed to the OEM. Something like filing a petition or something. So that we can show the responsible person..

Video Quality & Color Accuracy

Can anyone confirm whether or not the video coming from the P30 Pro is dramatically oversaturated? I have seen several reviews where the video seems outstanding, with great exposure, color accuracy, detail and stabilization. Then I've seen video that looks like this...
http://imgur.com/a/R23NfM6
And it scares the hell out of me. Wondering if any of the fresh updates correct this?
Sent from my SM-G975U1 using Tapatalk
It's not oversaturated but it has red tint.
I was planning to get this phone but I'm waiting to check more reviews about videos colors problem, and the weird thing is no one mention this bug in any review so far(all paid reviews lol).
My guess is as a photographer it's a hardware problem and not sure if it can be fixed by a software update.
Huawei replaced RGGB with RYYB in their camera sensor, the green filter is missing so nothing can compensate for this red tint you are seeing.
Even i saw some video comparison on YouTube and the blue for the sky look crap.
Check this one at 0:20
And this one at 6:23
Again i hope this can be fixed by software.
Edit : i just saw this review and he's talking about the bad colors at 5:40

I just watched that review as well. The weird thing is that I then watched many other video samples and everything looks great. It's odd. Why are some perfect and others (like Michael Fishers review) so bad. Maybe it was pre-release software?

The wide and telephoto lens won't suffer this red tint cause different sensors and could be the good samples that you saw are not from the p30 pro lol

Just got the phone today and I'm using this GCAM port, for the S10 https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397913303 it seems to work fine, haven't done any test, just a quick pic and it does seem better quality over the stock Samsung.
I've been using it for about 4 hours and the camera does not fully turn every time, most times it does, but I've had that happen a few times already, where it almost flips all the way to selfie mode, but stops at about 80% of the flip. Interested to know if this is common, I've seen a Youtuber with this issue as well, so just wondering if it's "normal" or not.

Had a bit more time to test it out and wow, GCam for the win, the difference is massive in low light, stock camera is very noisy, GCam, clean pic, makes this a great camera phone now.

The latest Gcam based on the Pixel 4's sensor works much better. I spent a lot of time trying and getting the best out of this sensor. Might compare it to the iP11Pro soon.

My friend @Xtergo can you give as a link for the Pixel 4 version you mentioned before?
already tried bsg arnova version & it's much better than stock in normal or portrait conditions but there's still missing features like live mode who give us actual bokeh effect. as far my experience gcam still lack on response time to open up / switching between mode camera maybe many more must be fixed considering that there has not been ported special for this device
Urynox Google Camera 7 for Samsung Galaxy A80
Almost all modes work
Hi guys, a have running Gcam for A70 (downloaded from same forum) in my A80 without problems its very good the Android 10 version, all right.

9T pro Vs 8 pro

Hi guys. I need an advise on wich phone to choose Mi 9T pro or Redmi note 8 pro. I'm not a heavy gamer. For me most important is camera, battery and community support (yes i know about 8 Pro Helio soc). Watched many videos in YouTube and still can't decide which device to choose. Seems both have a good camera's and decent battery life. Help me to choose ?

My biggest influences was that I didn't want a notch or punch hole and wanted to ensure a decent level of custom ROM support.
It sounds like MTK are looking to be a bit more dev friendly, but personally I would want to see that happen first before considering an MTK device.

Martin213 said:
What about camera between these two? I prefer better camera over notch/punch hole (i don't like those too) but community support Is most important for a long term usage...
Maybe i have to wait a bit longer and see what will happen with 8 Pro and development.
Thx

The jury is out, with regards the camera. DXOmark didn't think it was anything special. There is a limit to how many pixels you can cram in such a tiny space and I reckon the Samsung ISOCELL chip had pushed things too far. It will be relying, too much, on post processing to remove the noise. Keeping around the 48MP range of the Sony and of their earlier ISOCELL sensor (so 12MP effective for most shots), with the larger sensor size could have given them a sweet spot.

Did Huawei deliver on their promise to update the color system of the RYYB?

I had the P30 Pro for almost 6 months, but the inconsistencies when it comes to colors produced by the camera forced me to sell it and get the Note 10. As great as the camera on the Note 10 is, I still miss the 5x zoom and also the sharper images on the P30 Pro, but I'm still more pleased with the Note 10 since it delivers a more consistent results, especially in colors.
When EMUI was announced few months ago, Huawei promised that a new "color system" for the RYYB sensor would come along with the Android 10 update, and that it should fix the color issues it plugged this sensor, especially when it comes to skin tones. So can someone please confirm if they did improve on that? Also, did they fix the green tint issue that was mostly visible in shots taken indoors or with the night mode?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Can't answer on RYYB or any of that YET...phone still coming. I can say for Note or Samsung. Way to many "ad's" for me in Bixby. Just downloading a silly theme your forced to watch a 14 second video ad. For $700-1000.. ... I just expect less of that I will keep a eye on this. Someone with the new updates should know this though

Yes! Although that's more of a scientific lab test. In real life tests, you can see skin colors looking dull and pale, and frequently you'll end up with a greenish tint that would be smearing your pictures.
