Home screen not rotating since Marshmallow update - Xperia Z4/Z3+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I updated my Xperia Z3+ today and noticed that the home screen does not rotate any more.
I looked in the home screen settings, but there is no such option, like it used to be on 5.0.1.
Am I just not seeing this option, or has Sony removed this feature?

No answer I see. I unfortunately found the same thing, and it really annoys me. I had to move to use Nova launcher so I could get it back, but unfortunately I don't find nova as good as the inbuilt one. The widget handling of nova on the xperia is terrible, and the standard app tray is not as good as the xperia one. I keep hoping there will be an update that fixes it.
I guess it is that sony sadly stopped implementing mag charging and docks for the z5 and later so just don't care. And honestly I can not understand why they stopped that. It is fantastic using your phone as a bedside clock / photo frame on a dock. If I lost my current XPeria, I'd probably just buy the same model again, not get one of the later ones. Or find a different brand that did support horizontal dock/charge.
EDIT: It looks like they have released a beta of it with it fixed, but apparently buggy:

Mobe @ haha very funny... Why you said Nova is not better than Stock launcher? I think you doesn't know the true features of nova or you don't know how to customize it.

very first honeycomb optimized launcher

Finally I saw the new ADWLauncher EX screen shot for honeycomb.
it looks really nice I think, has anyone tried it yet?
I'm gonna pay or the app soon, but don't you think 3$ is pretty much for a launcher!!?

Oh it's well worth the payment. I've been using ADWLauncher EX on my Xoom since launch day. It was always pretty good then, but now it got another update for Honeycomb tablets. (It had one before this latest update that came out a few months back for 3.1 tablets.)
It's fast, stable, and has very has many features to customize. I say 110% yes to ADW!
yes i have it on my xoom and looks very nice, doung some good tweks to get my new home screen setup. But hope some update can hide the logo ADW in the top to make ir more clean. Maybe a little expensive but it deserves.
See ya!
scrolling in scroll-able widgets (such as gmail/email/wizz ) is very lagging

With the latest update, the logo has been replaced with the app drawer icon. Much smaller than the Adw launcher icon was, and much more useful because it actually has a purpose. I don't use the upper left hand corner app drawer icon, as I have a different screen setup. So, I suppose I don't need that little icon there myself, though it hardly takes up any space.

Actually, you can disable all the of top bar buttons (including the icons) from within ADW.
Long Press Screen,
Select Launcher Actions,
Select Hide/Show Action Bar.
Then I just delete the added icon. More Screen Real Estate for the win!

Great tip! With the Notification bar remover app this is great.
it has a few quirks and you lose the cooler stock animations from honeycomb...still not a perfect replacement for me yet. Too phonish for me still...sure they have an expandable dock now, but everything else is textbook from what I can run on my phone. I'm holding out for something just for tabs.

Oh yeah, I saw that a few days ago when the update came out. Forgot to mention that. I removed the top bar just now, and it's nice. I love ADW. I use it on both my phone and tablet alike!

OMG IT WORKS...this is the only reason i have stayed on version 1.2.2 on my xoom .
Nevermind, it comes back every time i reboot Going back to 1.2.2.
but, don't you guys think, the stock one is still better?
I'm happy with all the features it got, but I feel like I have more space to use in stock anyway.

Faster and nice you can use icon packs but stock animations are better hands down the adw animations just aren't as cool on a tablet

ADW has a screen adjustment setting. You can set the screen to a 10x10 grid. It has screen transition options as well to adjust. You might have to adjust the flick scroll settings or change the transition type for what works best for you. If you want full launcher customization... go with ADW, but if you do not want to fuss with the technical details I say to stay with the stock launcher all the way. It's a straight out of the box experience with nothing to set up or adjust.
ADW is not laggy or slow in the least bit. Maybe you need to try some adjustments/tweaks if you are going to use ADW. There are plenty of those found in the options. Stock launchers I feel have always been laggy, as they are just the basic core launcher with little or no options. The bare bones in most cases just to get you started, if you will. But, Google is always working on the launcher. Soon enough the default launcher will be excellent. It's getting much better for sure.
I would like if if you could put the bar at the bottom to the left.

thanks for help with settings, I think they help me like it somehow more than the stock.
I was probably the biggest skeptic on replacing my stock launcher, so i didnt. I still use it. I used this to supplement it. Its nowhere near a phone feel once you customize...just remove top bar and don't use app dock. The custom transitions bring a breath of fresh air to my xoom, and the 4d app scroll is friggin awesome. Make sure you adjust the speed on open/closing. I hate saying this, but trust me.
. Xoom being field tested in Iraq.
I´m officially impressed. Just bought it, along with HD widgets.
Does any1 have a working scrollable twitter widget ? On the SGS2 I use the twitter launcherpro native widget... with the Xoom I was using the Plume Twitter client Widget.
But sad thing, it appears that the plume widget won´t work at all with ADW
Now I don´t have a decent twitter widget (still looking for a news and facebook scrollable) widgets
In adw go into settings, general behavior, system preferences and change scrolling cache to low. Should help with scrolling Widgets.
Try android pro Widgets for Facebook or twitter Widgets.

Anyone switch over to another launcher right away?

Just wondering if any of you switched over to Nova or if your sticking to the stock launcher.
Ive noticed some lag with stock but I enjoy the widgets touch wiz offers.
Stock or aftermarket launcher?
I'm currently using aviate by yahoo and I like it a lot especially with the transparent setting
I pretty much switched to Nova Launcher right away. Didn't even bother playing around with the Touchwiz launcher

That's the Google Now Launcher? I use a lot of different lauchers in my Note2 but Go Launcher is the one I have the most setup due to the extensive customizability-gestures-3D effects but it wasn't as impressive when I quickly installed in on a Note4 in Best Buy perhaps because I hadn't customized it yet but I also like the Google Now Launcher & Nova & Themer.
I generally immediately get rid of TW but it wasn't as bad in the Note4 but still not ultra smooth or interesting as the other lauchers. I really like the ability to change launchers which is another reason Android is & the next time I play with a Note4 I'll go through more launchers as it could definitely look cooler & be more functional.:good:
I switched to Nova Launcher beta instantly. TouchWiz isn't bad, but I can't stand the grid spacing as I like to keep a few widgets and apps on my main home screen.
I've already switched to Nova, phone should be here Friday. ??

Agree grid of icons gets old fast like lame iOS & I also try to keep icons to a minimum (Go Launcher lets you program 5 base hideable icons to launch additional apps with gestures like swipe up as well as scroll swipe across to another 5 icons & another 5 icons (5x3=15 x 2 including the programmable gestures upon a long press menu = 30 apps-shortcuts-functions) & I use a lot of widgets so I don't even have to click icons to access some data. I don't think non-Prime Nova lets you customize as much as Go Launcher but there are more & more cool launchers being developed & still setting up other launchers I previously mentioned.
Switched to Nova pretty much immediately. As mentioned above I can't stand the spacing between icons. Also I need gesture support, especially with such a large phone. Why that still hasn't been built into the touchwiz launcher I'll never know.
First thing I did was install the ADW launcher. I've been a fan for a long time.

What Launcher for my Xperia Z3?

What Launcher you suggest for my Xperia Z3 Compact ?
I don't like the normal one it's a way too big for the compact.
At the moment I use APEX launcher but the drawer does not give me all the apps I installed weird bug.
Which one you suggest me ?
I use NOVA Prime, no issues so far.
Nova Launcher is the best!!!

No such bug for me, but you might check Apex Settings -> Drawer settings -> Hidden apps. Maybe you've hidden some apps by mistake.

Lightning Launcher - I've tried them all (yeah, who hasn't!).
It's not as fancy and a bit more complicated to set up than others but seriously there is simply none that is as customisable as this one.
Features I like the most are that on the main screen you can both scroll horizontally and vertically and you can also put widgets in folders, supercustomize the app drawer, change each folders' appearance.. you name it, you can customise it all.
Links to play:
Pro version, Free version
Nokia Z Launcher ftw.
Once again... Nova Prime.
Customizable in very many ways but not bloated (love the 1/2 grid). Fast as hell. Easy on battery (there are quite a few launchers which aren't and who wants his launcher to drain battery...). Most icon themes are made for Nova. There are launchers which are laggy even on high-end devices (tried Aviate recently... lol) and use a lot of resources. I think those should be free for your apps, not your launcher.
Use it for 2 years now. From time to time I try other, also new, launchers (to watch the progress) but there is none that wouldn't make me wish to go back to Nova. Imo it's the best launcher ever.
Used to only use Nova... but for some reason have been sticking with Google Now. Seems to be the quickest, most stable, and I don't have to worry about constantly tweaking (not that you have to with Nova, but if it's possible to tweak, i'll tweak). Guess I'm just boring nowadays!

have always preferred apex over nova. similar, but all the features I need are in the free version, while to get the same important features for me in nova I would have to get the paid version...so why should I if I have them for free in apex?!
and actually, there were a couple of features in apex that I didn't find in nova.... not even in the paid version... apex all the life!! :good:
KK Launcher Pro, xposed and mods
Nova here, too. But I do find the phone is slightly more laggy with it. Or maybe that's some other issue.
I use Smart Launcher 2 Pro. I got tired of rows and columns of icons, so I have it set up with a circle of icons and I'll dig into the categorized drawer if I want to run anything else.

Launcher?

Hi all,
What is the best launcher to install ?
The two things I want are to be able to hide apps, and to have to swipe up to access app drawer as opposed to having an icon for it.
I have tried a couple but the p20 original launcher always ends up taking over. Or with the Lawn launcher for some reason I could add the time/weather widget.
Thanks
Try Ruthless pixel launcher from XDA labs. (If it crashes go to settings and enable storage permission; Bug with pixel launchers on huawei phones)

Thanks for your help
Nova, Evie...there are many out there but these are my favorites. Huawei widgets don't seem to work on any custom launcher.
Evie Launcher has been my favorite for a really long time and matches both of your requirements. Plus, the ability to change Icon pack not only by pack but also one by one is a big plus. Smooth, clean and minimalistic and has a couple of cool features.

For me the best launcher which i always go back to is LawnChair and it's Google feed add-on.
It's a lot like the Pixel launcher but has a lot more settings.
Icon size, theming, weather provider, gestures, app hiding etc.
It's rapid too and fluid, and it's free
Make sure the launcher is set as the default one, if the 2nd launcher in use crashes then the only thing the system can do is revert back, if you're using lawnchair, use the latest version.
I have it installed and mine never reverts back.
Another way would be if you were rooted you could freeze the original launcher in titanium.
CPL wins hands down.

Steep learning curve though
Long time on my previous phones I used Nova and Apex launcher. For 2 years now I am using Microsoft Launcher which supports icon notifications for free and I must say I'm still returning to it. I tried Evie launcher on my P20 Pro but for some reason it consumed the battery a lot. Microsoft launcher does not consume battery at all (always like 1 mAh <), its fast and stable, modern looking but different compared to "stock android looking" launchers.

Question Launchers on GT S8

I have been trying out different launchers on my S8. Let me know of any you are familiar with or recommend.
Microsoft Launcher: I am currently using this and pleasantly surprised. I don't login to Microsoft because I don't use those services but see how it could be a good thing for those that do. MS has made a very nice tablet launcher experience. Even the MS Start news app works well enough as a Google Now replacement. I love to hide junk news sources I don't want to read, and can request fewer articles on topics of interest. There are ads in the feed but at least they are subtle and have an indicator so you don't have to click. Loading news is sometimes slow but it could be my connection.
Smart Launcher: looks great but it is a subscription service to reap the full functionality. I saw that they also use MS Smart but it doesn't seem to work well in that launcher. I can't get my head around the launcher subscription service revenue model, who would pay monthly, or the value add to do so.
Nova Launcher: my go-to on phones. However, the tablet experience isn't great. I couldn't figure out how to move the dock to the bottom in landscape.
Apex Launcher: seems nice but also has a subscription model. I didn't spend much time with it.
Action Launcher: another I used for years on phones before switching to Nova. I also couldn't figure out how to move the dock to the bottom in landscape.
If I'm gonna be completely honest, I'm super fond of the OneUI launcher and have been using that instead of Nova for a couple of weeks now. Samsung has made OneUI even better in the coming updates, so I just don't even change it now.
@SavXL I am in total agreement. OneUI 4.1 has evolved very well. I had a Samsung Note 9 with the earlier OUI versions which I didn't prefer over Nova.
As a launcher hopper, I will use the OneUI launcher again. Icon pack support would be a nice addition.

Indeed! I used Theme Store in the past.
From within OUI launcher icon preferences vs. theme store is my wish for installing icon packs. To be fair, Google's pixel launcher doesn't allow this either.
If you are really advanced, use total launcher and you won't regret it.. Basically you can re create any launcher with it. But 1st time you use it, it's look awful.. By far the most advanced launcher right now if you give it time to understand what you can do with it. But i still use nova when i want something simple to use it in 5 minutes.
Here an example of my theme i created in total launcher. I inspired from htc. (I could create exactly the same launcher htc had if i wanted):

Square Home Launcher by "ChYK the dev" works really well on larger devices. It's like a Windows 10 start menu look, but with lots of options. Takes a bit to get it customized just right, but well worth the time.

I've used Nova Launcher on all four of my tablets. going back to 2014. Just last month I upgraded from a Tab S4 to a Tab S8+.
Transferring was a breeze. The backup function worked like a charm -- all the settings were transferred from my old to the new tablet. And it copied the icons for all the apps -- even those not yet installed. Icon locations and grouped icons were all in the same place they were on the old tablet. Those icons for not installed apps were gray, and clicking them brings a message asking if you want to install them. If you say yes, it opens the app in the Play Store. Then after they install, it goes to full color. For sideloaded apps, just install and the icons turn active. This made it easy to install all the apps I had before. No missing aps.
As far as the launcher goes, all the settings, layouts and defaults are the same. I think the only thing I had to manually install widgets that were on apps that weren't yet installed when I restored the backup on the new tablet.

Niagara Launcher.
For me it's the best Launcher after testing so many alternatives.
Switched from Nova to Niagara and never looked back.
