Problems with official S7 Edge Clearview Case - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Accessories

Hi Guys,
Been an iPhone user for 7 years now, and finally made the jump to Android.
Got the S7 Edge, and purchased the official Samsung Clear View Smart Case at the same time.
The sales guy and packaging sold the case on the fact the clear front allows you to take full advantage of the "Always On Display" which is a neat feature for sure.
However the case over-rides the AOD and has its own alternative screen, which turns off after 30 seconds or so.
Also the front clear cover is very loose fitting and has a habit of opening itself with the smallest of movements.
Are Samsung likely to fix the always on display with a software update?
Are they usually responsive?
I love the look of the case but killing the new Always On Display is a major flaw and I am undecided whether to just return it or wait for a fix.
Anyone found a way to fix the issue?

Would be happy if there would be a fix already. I hope they fix it soon. But in the meantime i will give it back and use no cover...

I just don't see how they can make a new feature like the "Always On Display" and then design an accessory which breaks that feature, its ludicrous.

Absolutely. That was also my first thought.. second: if its not me doing something wrong i give it back. It is sold as the only one that lets you use that feature, so i still can not beleave its true...

Sorry but this case is a definite no no for me.
I want to utilize the always on display which definitely wont be possible with this one

The cover activates via a magnet, so if you get a flip cover (notbthe official one) that doesn't have a magnet for sleep/wake AOD should work just fine. I personally don't use flip covers, but if I did I would get one without a window in it.

Yes I understand the magnet causes the sleep / wake and overrides the AOD.
But surely this is an oversight and not intended?
As mentioned I am new to Android / Samsung, from previous history are they likely to make an update to fix this?
I appreciate this is just a guess but on a scale of 1-10 what are the chances an update will make the case work as described?
If it isnt likely to be fixed, then I will return it and find something which does the job, as the AOD was one of the features which made me switch, and I cant use it unless I leave the case open and therefore not protecting the phone anyway which defeats the object of the case in the first place

I don't think it will get fixed soon, but that's just my opinion. I've owned a few Samsung phones but I use my Nexus more than anything else. I can't speak for their track record on fixing accessory issues, so another member might be more able to help you out. AOD works great for me using a normal case which is the avenue I would take for now

Totally agreed. I bought the same case and thought it was weird it breaks the AOD function. I'm living with it for now as to be honest, at my desk or wherever I leave the flap folded back and the AOD kicks in.

Same problem here.. if I had known, I would have bought another cover.

The Clear View was my second choice Samsung case. My first was the LED Cover. Coming from HTC M8 and enjoying it's Dot View cover, the LED cover for the S7E caught my eye right away. But nowhere seems to have it in stock.

You sure that's not just the leather one? Several CPW I went in to had the leather one and clear view. There is another which has the LED feature.
Ordered from amazon. It's delivered tomorrow.

Yeah I'm sure I tested it out but couldn't justify paying the £39.99 the were charging for it.

Has anyone tried this specific "smart cover" case?

I looked around for smart covers on ebay and found the cover below. It doesn't fold around like this case does and in general looks more stable judging by the pictures (they could be wrong though).
Have any of you tried it? I have not found a review of it yet but I figured it might be worth asking.

Good question. I've been thinking about getting this case too. Anyone actually got it?
Looks cool, but it would have to be much more stable than it looks to me.

Yes I have this case, I tell you its a beautiful case to hold and look at. There are other colour variants available which I got the red one.
Its very sleek, doesn't add much weight or bulk to the device.
The sleep functions works brilliantly, and doesn't lock the device when you fold it over to hold like a book, which some do.
ONE DOWNSIDE!!!! - The stand is very hard to figure out (i have not yet figured how to fold it to make it stand up haha !)
Hope this helps answer your questions.
And I genuinly recommend this case as its ace ! (that rhymes weee)

Have you got a link for any of the other colours? The ones I see in multiple colours are the ones with the wrap-around magnetic closure in the back (which I have, I'd like to have one that just lies over the screen for use at home).

Yeah the coloured variants have a lip that does go round the back, but its not noticeable and surely you want this to keep it nicely closed and secure?

I think it's noticeable, especially when I have that extra flap to fold back over when I'm using the N7 in my hand.
I want to keep it closed and secure, sure, when it's in a bag or something. But my N7 spends most of its time on my coffee table or bar; I'd love to have a slim case with just a flap over the screen to keep the dust out. That doesn't cost $30+ like the Poetics or Portenzos of the world.

So do you have this exact case or not? I've seen the other ones and I'm not interested in them after reading the reviews. That's why I started a new thread about this one. If you do have this one, some pictures would be great.
I went and ordered one of these, but likely won't have it for a couple of weeks since it's coming from China. Will post my impressions when it arrives.

That's a different case, with the wrap-around flap on the right side. I already have that one.
look, heres the deal, that case may look pretty but any case like that wont stay closed. for it to be closed, there would have to be magnets along the edges like the portfolio. any case maker that says the case will stay closed without magnets on the border is lying.
I own one and its awesome. Buy it.

I have to admit, I never really liked these cases... but after seeing that YouTube review online, I'm curious enough to give it a shot.
I'm absolutely in love with this Speck case, but I do have a minor concern with it. I use my Nexus 7 frequently, very frequently, and not only that but I use it for work. I'm continually walking up and down the hall at work going from one problem to another, using my N7 along the way. As a result, I'm concerned I may wear out the clip on the Speck case quite a bit. This only became a thought when I realized the clipping mechanism is significantly easier now than it was when I bought it. Broken in? Maybe. Will it get even softer? Very possible. This case ensures that won't happen since the magnets of course don't have physical contact to wear like that. While the higher stand up position seems a bit easy to topple over, the other one with the N7 (one I'd likely prefer anyway) looks a bit better in terms of stability.
At any rate, ah, I bought one just now - we'll see what happens when it gets here.
Edit - for what it's worth the one I ordered did indeed have the magnetic flap that goes around back to ensure it stays shut. I'm not sure I'd consider one without...
Case arrived today, so far I like it, the cover lies flatter than the eBay case with the extra flap, and it feels slimmer. Only downside so far is that it sometimes puts the tablet to sleep when I fold it back. We'll see if it gets better over time. I'll try to take pictures when I have a chance.

maybe slip something to block the magnet on the back? not sure what can maybe help on that front, but maybe a little thickness might be enough.
Side note, anyone have this and the poetic slimline case? I got the first case they had for my uncle, but it's a bit difficult for him to open. I'd get him a portenzo like mine, but it might actually add more bulk than I'd want for him.

Looking for case

I have a case with a weird issue. Its grabbing my nexus 7 so tight that its squeezing the power button internally or something so screen goes off immediately after unlocking. It doesn't happen at all without case on. Gonna return it to amazon and grab a new one since I've been super clumsy lately and don't want to break my new toy. Any suggestions? Edit screen turning on and off appears to have something to do with light any ideas what it might be?

What kind of case is it? Many cases have a magnet in the lid, that should shut down the screen when the lid is put over the screen.
Some cheap cases also seem to have a bit too powerful magnet, so even if the lid is turned behind the screen, nexus 7 still detects it and shuts down the screen.
Does your case have a magnet?

Sorry, I didn't see this at first.
The Nexus 7 has a wake/sleep sensor, which is activated by the presence/absence of a magnet. As noted in the last post, if your case is compatible with the sensor, then when you open the case's cover, the N7 wakes up. When you close the cover, it will go to sleep.
(I wish I would go to sleep that easily!)

ah weird thought it had something to do with the lighting. then why was i able to duplicate the result by moving the camera around the ceiling fan light bulb? couldn't do it without the case on though so that has to be part of the cause. anyway i can't see a magnet but doesn't mean it's not embedded in there. this is the case by the way http://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Slim-fit...=1356622879&sr=8-1&keywords=moko+nexus+7+case
Alot of those cheaper cases use magnets that are too strong and flipping the lid over turns off the screen from the back. I owned a Blurex case just like that one and I liked it alot actually. Because of the design, I can't imagine it has anything to do with the power button.
Play with the lid, as I suspect that is your problem. You may be able to put a piece of tin-foil behind the N7 so the magnet's effect is tainted from behind. That or pick up a new case. I really liked that style of case as it felt very protected. I eventually moved to the Poetic slim case (iPad style) but the quality was disturbing. After a few weeks the plastic started to buckle and tear.
I ended up with a Portenzo Book Case that I like very much. It has a great feel to it, doesn't add bulk, and looks very nice. Overall it is holding up very well. The tablet is held in by 2 3M sticky pads. The top, bottom, and button-sides are exposed. The magnets were adjusted during initial releases and working perfectly.

I will call at&t directly after I cancel my Verizon order for the wrong case. I'll let you know what happens.....
I am on the phone with AT&T and they can NOT find this case in their system/inventory....it's so annoying. If we had Verizon here in Anchorage, I would take back this phone and go with the Verizon variant. I spoke with an AT&T rep who is calling all the stores within a hundred miles to see if she can locate one for me. When she calls me back, I will update this post.
Try some T Mobile Stores as well, I know they give one for free maybe they have some in stock early before the phone release.
I just searched all over google search and NOTHING!!! Sucks cus i always have a case and screen protector literally the instant i take my device out the box. When i saw this case i fell in love, perfect for me at the gym with that little window music player. Just tap tap and change track, lol! Only place i've found this sold is on ebay in S. Korea for $79.99, not worth half that price imo for what the case is actually made out of. Costs probably $5 to make this damn case and sells for $79.99, yeah no deal!
A bit off topic, but while the Verizon rep was trying to figure out what the G2 even was, I tried on this case in the store and was severely disappointed in how cheap it felt.
My main issues are that nothing holds the flap closed so it gets caught on my pocket pulling it in and out and the hinge is the cheapest parts of the entire case, so it "shifts" on the phone. I can't explain it much better than that, but the window cover just sort of "flaps around."
Just thought I would share so you don't loose too much sleep trying to track it down.
Best buy now shows the window case online but its not available anywhere yet. Hopefully this means they are expecting some because I have been looking since purchase also
Just ordered it from Best Buy!!!
It was my understanding that LG wasn't releasing this case the same time the phone was released... Hence why everyone is having such problems finding it.
Best Buy said it wasn't available in any stores yet, but I did just order it from online, and they say it will ship tomorrow... So, I think that is your best best. The only have the black color available though, but they do have it for all the carriers, including VZW .
Anyone try the aftermarket quickwindow case linked below by Coverbot? I may....also doubles as a stand....hmmmmm
http://www.amazon.com/CoverBot-Quic...d=1381338554&sr=8-2&keywords=quickwindow+case
just picked one up from t mobile. taking it back doesnt add 50 bucks worth of protection or features
T mobile sent me one free with my phone. I strongly advise against using this case without a screen protector.
The metal banding around the inside of the window scratched my screen. Granted the scratch is barely visible and it takes some effort to see but I imagine it would only get worse from there so I stopped using it. Anyone want mine?

International LG G2 & Korean Quick Window case, even the aftermarket ones

It seems like the international version of LG G2 is not compatible with the Quick Window cases coming from Korea. Aside from the OEM ones that obviously does not fit due to the removable back in Korea, even the after market ones are not working at the time being.

It could be just one case I got, which is branded as ‘Send view cover’, does not correctly display the quick window. I am assuming the location of the magnet to trigger the quick window is different from Korean ones to the international ones. I must say the case is very well made and feels good in the hands.
I had activated the quick windows setting and put the cover on, yet the quick window does not work.
Sure the case looks very well made, and for the money I paid compared to the original case, I was very happy with it. That is, only if the darn quick windows worked. This thing even has the cover on the quick view area!
Looks very nice with the case on. I’ll probably have to get an OEM case which I don’t like it too much, but if that’s the only one working, so be it. I just hope no other person waste their money on the Korean cases.
Me 2
I got one from eaby, doesn't work either.
Fifty euros is wayy to much to buy one in the normal shops.
Pity guys...thanks for sharing tho.My korean model will work i guess, but i was looking one with removable back to be slimmer, they cost way to much atm tho...

From your pics, it appears you're missing the magnet to trigger the phone into quick window mode. With the case on, and the flap open, there should be a circular magnet along the right side of the window, centered about a third up from the bottom of the window. The outline is clearly visible on my case. Try taping a magnet there and closing the flap. If it works, there's your problem.
I actually checked the magnet but it did not trigger the quick window view

Ignore the last sentence of the video. I was rushing and wasn't thinking. If you put the magnet on the back, quick window won't turn off. It has to be on the front flap.
Thanks. Ivdont have the case with me at the moment, I'll check when I get back to work on Tuesday. I think there was a magnet but was triggering to turn the device off, never actually getting the quick Windows to work. Might have been a bad batch? But I'll definitely double check. I do have T-Mobile version if that makes any difference.

my case has just arrived today and I encounter the same problem. Have you tried the method explained before?
I really like the case, it's well built and not as expensive as the OEM one.
I purchased same case on eBay...I emailed them and they refunded me my money and get to keep the case. I figured i could find a way to put a stronger magnet.

I have a different ebay case, but the same problem. Putting a more powerfull magnet on top of the case one is helping, so apparently it needs some modding.
Guys im interested to buy the integrated original case for F320S,but not pay an arm and a leg that some are asking for it lol.If anyone has a link with a decent price i would appriaciate it.
Also happening with a nice flip case i bought from Ebay, I found that i could trigger it easily by taking the case off, then placing the front cover onto the phone and moving it up till the quick window appears, at which case it works each time i lift it away from the phone and back tho basically useless at the end of the day.
I can feel the magnet on the side and i guess it's not in the correct position, it's not in the same place for all phone models so you will need the official case from your region which means more $.
My korean F320s works fine with the original european case.I just got one (the korean was 25 more euros to import..)
Here in the Netherlands have LG a really good deal. If you write a review about the phone then you will get a quickwindow case for free. (Black or white)
But it really sucks if your Korean version is not compatible. I think you can better by the version for your phone.
Is it not possible to move the magnet?

Scratched my damn screen

Just got a big nasty scratch on my screen. No idea how it even happened. Was on a chat with Samsung and they want 137 bucks to fix it. Screen protectors didn't arrive yet in the mail. I've been searching online for replacements but haven't found any. There was a thread on here, but they just list as sold out. So if anyone has sees replacement screens, please post a link. Thanks and party on.

Is it really bad? I have one on mine, but it's barely visible and it's not worth it to replace the glass.

Yeah dude I'm super bummed. Can see it when screen is off or on. Deep enough to catch your fingernail in. I was pretty polluted at a St Patty parade on Sunday so I'm guessing that's when it happened. Didn't see it until yesterday though because I didn't wear it during the week. I'll see if I can get it to show on a pic.
Updated original post with a pic. The N3 flash makes the face look terrible lol.

Ouch! That looks like it hurts!!!
I did a 10 minute search and couldn't come up with anything either. etradesupply had a listing, but currently out of stock. Maybe you could write an inquiry, or at least set an alert.

I may just put it on CraIgslist for like 140 bucks. Someone might want it for that or maybe a bit cheaper. Then I'll just get a new one haha.
That's not a bad idea. Sounds like something I would do. I like my stuff looking new. Someone would definitely buy it for that much.
I put a nasty one on mine a few months ago-bought a skinomi screen protector from Amazon and when it dried can barely see it-worked great and was $12
This scratch doesnt look like it can be buffed out completely but it can certainly be minimized with a little automotive, paint scratch remover paste. I would certainly try polishing it out before selling it off. Make sure you tape off the surroundings area and be patient, it will take a couple of applications, but it should buff down to the point where you could likely not notice it.
I agree. I use the stuff for my stove. Works better than auto products for some reason.

With all the price drops I've seen lately (I'm assuming they are clearing stock for the gg2) would it be worth purchasing another and keeping yours for spares (only if you don't plan on upgrading anytime soon). Could possibly even find a used one for not much more than Samsung is going to charge for a fix. Also saw on here that refurbished ones on ebay are going for 189. 137 for screen, 52 for the rest of the watch...

Thanks for the product suggestion. I am definitely going to polish it up and apply a screen protector to hide it. I'm already kind of used to it. I bought it to wear and use, I'm just a little disappointed at how easily it scratches. For the price they charge, they should include a $0.15 screen protector in the package imho.
This might be overkill but check out this post:

I believe it's like any regular cellphone glass replacement. You heat up the "crystal" until it's 180 degrees fahrenheit. Try not to fry the watch or band. Then gently work a corner of the glass away from the watch. It will slooooowly separate. Clean any remaining glue residue with rubbing alcohol. Apply strips of adhesive around the perimeter of glass. Press in new crystal and heat to 120 degrees to set the new adhesive.

Yeah I had seen that post. That's way more work than I'm willing to do lol. After putting a screen protector on it, the scratch isn't as noticeable. I will probably polish it up and apply a good protector and be done with it. I'm pretty rough on wearables so it's just a matter of time until I really smash it anyway. I just love the convenience of not having to pull my N3 out all the time. Hopefully it lasts long enough until I decide if I want the Gear2 or not.
Just curious. I thought the screen is made of Sapphire glasses. How did you get a scratch like that?

It's only Gorilla and I think the bulkiness of the device makes it a bit more vulnerable to impacts than a normal watch. Then again, I'm not as careful with a watch as I am with my phone. My own fault for not immediately getting a screen protector on it.

But I read the review it says a supphire. http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-Gear-Review_id3441
Also specs from gsm stated it's supphire.
If it's not, I'm gonna get a screen film too......

To be honest I had read those same reviews which is why I never bothered to get a protector. After like 10 days I noticed some very faint scratching so I ordered a couple protectors. Next thing I know is BAM a huge ass scratch before they arrive in the mail. So whether it is sapphire or not I highly recommend a protector of some sort if you wear it a lot.
