[Q] Google Camera gone? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I went to reinstall Google Camera from the Play Store and it no longer comes up. All that they have is the VR Camera. Does anyone else see this, and does anyone have a zip of the latest Google Camera I can install?

You don't need a zip unless you're putting the camera app into system. Just download a copy from APK Mirror and install. As to the camera on the Play Store, it no longer shows up in searches, which is quite interesting.

Sometimes it doesn't come up in searches for me, but ONLY when I'm on a Custom ROM.
On Stock MMB29V, it shows up just fine.
However, now that you've mentioned it, I just refreshed Play Store, it is gone!
I guess APKMirror is the way to go.
Could this be Google developing a new camera app for us? Or just a glitch?

I did try to manually insert the apk into system, set the correct permissions and for some reason the app won't show up in the latest Beanstalk rom.

Well, it appears that Google may have abandoned the camera app for non-nexus devices. Checking the Google Camera Page on a computer, the only compatible device is my Nexus 6. In addition, one of the requirements on that page is that you have a Nexus device running Android 6.x. I can only speculate at this point, but I don't think the camera not appearing in the Play Store on the device is a glitch.
Based upon the behavior you describe, where the camera app is found on stock but not on a custom ROM, Google must be filtering custom ROMs based upon signature. Does that mean they are creating a new camera app? Unknown, but if they are it likely will only be for the Nexus devices.

Google Maps 3.3.0 On the market

Welp I just installed 3.3.0 on my G1 and now I'm getting Force Closures.
Compass arrow
Scale bar
Terrain Layer
More…
When I opened up the new Google Maps for the first time it asked “What’s new in Maps?” and it answered:
Report a problem with the map or a business listing
See businesses at an address or near a point on the map
Try out experimental features with labs
Uninstalled and reinstalled and it works fine.
Thanks for the uninstall/reinstall tip. that solved my problem. running CM-4.2.7.1
No force closes here...
The new features are cool, but nothing nearly as awesome an addition as Navigation was. Either way though, love to see that they're improving it all the time. Android's Google Maps is WAYY better than iPhone's if you ask me.
I like the fact that you can report problems right from the phone too.
I am personally getting a "package not signed" error on Enmther's TheOfficial. I uninstalled it but I still cant get it to install/
love it!! no force close after reinstall
does it have street view

Yeah it still has street view. You just long press anywhere on the screen and it brings up the next menu. As long as street view is in your area you will get the use of it. Like my area shown up above in the screen shots I do not have street view in my area so I can't really use it much.
can any one upload an apk of the new google maps, having a hard time installing it via market.

thanks, but it says that the file is unavailable.
Running Cyanogen 4.2.5 and had the hacked version of 3.2.1 Maps (via XDA, before it was available on the market). Upgraded to 3.3 via market and it works fine, no FCs.

getting the same. running cyanogen 4.2.7.1 installed 3.2.1 from market fine last time. no option to uninstall from manage apps - how are you guys uninstalling?
calv
a full uninstall (e.g. i did it with Super User File Management System (SUFMS) and then reinstall via market fixes the Maps 3.30 force close issue
Having the same problem here with the unsigned package error message - tried uninstalling, manually deleting the Maps.apk file but no luck...
Does anyone have a working APK that we can just push to our app folder and get it over with?
I'm running a modified CM 4.2.7.1 (on which people are complaining about he same issue). I don't get Google with their crap they have to do to block certain features and render the whole thing useless for all users with custom roms until someone has to spend the time and figure it all out for the rest of us...

When you are on the market there should be an option to upgrade. I simply upgraded and then when I had an error I went back to the market and searched for "Google Maps" and when it came up I used the uninstall button, followed up with searching and installing.

I just tried to download it again. Its there you just have to wait for their annoying time out thing. I'd host it on my site, but honestly I'd rather not hammer the piss out of it when megaupload works just fine.
Anybody that wants to use it just rename it to Maps.apk
Its renamed funky because of an app I have installed that renames files when I tell it to back up.
Signing issues here is another thread that addresses it.

the link is working now
I updated my site with version 3.3.0 if anyone wants the apk...

[Q] Play Store without preloaded apps

Is there a way to load "play store" into your cm10 rom, rooted Exhibit 4g WITHOUT preloaded apps? i feel really stupid asking this, am i just missing the icon or do you have to download a JB app file to restore "play store" ? i just would prefer to have play store without loading apps i never use.
I only understand enough to follow instructions, i am no tech wizard. i was able to root my phone, install clockwork mod and cm10. i have tried more roms than i can count. other than missing the tmobile wifi calling app, i am happy. i just would really love to get a bare bones jbapp file. its seems odd to me as much as the developers enjoy getting rid of bloatware, they turn right around and load up bloat in their own app files.
am i saying this right? is what i am asking make sense?
Are you talking about other gapps like google currents, drive, etc? If so, I believe that if you don't install gapps, the only thing that you get is the Play Store apps. Can anyone else confirm this?
Play store usually comes bundled with other google apps but you can get rid of any app you want with titanium backup.

yes, the "gapps" that you have to download after a rom install. i would not mind any google apps that come with it. just seems like all the gapps i download here have crap i never use and or dont understand.
i must be misunderstanding this, i cant be the only person wanting this.
Any examples of things you would never use? Also, you could just uninstall them after if you don't want them.

[Q] Anyone else having issues with Google keyboard?

I cannot install it from the Play Store, as my country has no support for many Goggle apps. So I went to find an .apk and installed it, but if force closed on me after opening the app. Tried another one, FC again, but the third one worked... somewhat. I can install it, open it, but when it asks me to turn it on in the settings, I cannot do that, because it is not present there. I mean, the hell?
Any ideas?

TexasICE's ICS ROMs are pretty old right now. They might be having bugs which are long gone in the latest JB ROMs by Evervolv (again texasice) team. You should give that a try instead of this one.
Thanks a lot for all the help guys! Turns out I just needed to do a custom install and make sure that the default google apps were installs during the installation! Thanks again

[Q] Google Camera Missing in Play Store

Anybody else notice that Google Camera is missing from the Play Store? A Google search says this happened back in March, but should still be available to Nexus devices.
I'm not seeing it on my Nexus 6 running the TuPac lite 30D ROM. Curious if others can still see it.

Nope. Still at 560.
I think something may be screwy with my device on my Google account.
On the Play Store settings it shows as a Verizon Nexus 6 but it doesn't show at all on Android Device Manager nor the Android N beta sign up.

mine doesnt show on my device manager either(on my sgs4 the n6 shows up though, and i signed up for N. the odd thing is it does show up, if looking certain ways, but a search on thd play store app it doesnt show up here either. but.. if i go to the page of my installed google cam it shows up, or if i press a link on google via a search it shows up as well.
There was a discussion on the Google Camera missing from the Play Store here. In short, I believe they hid the app so it can update, but cannot be installed.

Strange. I only started noticing issues when I manually installed the first N beta. Don't remember if I signed up for the beta afterward or not but ran into these issues when going back to Marshmallow.

Makes sense, but if the app is installed, it should still appear in the Play Store, even if it's not available otherwise. If it weren't you wouldn't be able to update it, right? Curious about why they did this.
Google Play Services, which I reference in the other thread, cannot be searched for within the Play Store on device or PC. It automatically updates itself, and also does not appear in the list of installed apps. To find it on the Play Store on a PC, you have to know its package name (com.google.android.gms), perform a search for any other app, and replace that app's package name with the Google Play Services package name, in order to call it up.
Google Camera is easier to find. A search on the device won't pull up anything, but it does show up in the installed apps list on the Play Store. If you search on the PC, you'll find it there. You won't be able to install it however unless you have the right Nexus device (5X, 6, 6P, 9) and that Nexus device is apparently stock. Pure Nexus also shows the camera app as being incompatible, though we can install and use it without trouble.
As to why Google did this, I couldn't tell you. Unless it's in preparation for Android N. Currently I have the Android N camera app installed, but I had to get it from outside the Play Store.
I had this same issue. Thought it was just me
