Mirroring the vr with Amazon fire stick - Samsung Gear VR

Hi,
I'm currently using an s7 edge with the Gear VR.
When plugging my device into my VR headset the screen mirror on my fire stick shows the first loading icon and then freezes all the while my headset is working fine.
Any reason for this as I've read that the note 4 works fine on fire stick and miracast.
Tia

Try going to developer opinions in your phones setting then goto second display settings, choose 720p secure. that worked for me on chromecast

Oh and if u have a 3d tv click side by side 3d and the person watching the tv can watch it in 3d.

That works on my friends Chromecast but my not on fire stick.... :/ I wonder what the issue is?

Chromecast wish list

So I just got my cc a few days ago and am loving it.. Having sunk money into plexpass membership I'm happy with everything so far but there are 2 things I'd like to see added..
1) local PC gameplay casting. I tried casting the full desktop and playing a game in windowed mode and I could see the game but the frame rate was terrible. Surely if casting was buildt into something like open broadcast software or nvidias showplay . that would be ideal for spectator purposes as there are times my girlfriend likes to watch me play games but doesn't want to sit at the computer to do so. I know twitch is coming but It doesnt need it to be streamed out to twitch to be casted back into my house..
2) the ability to cast video from various sources ( hulu,Netflix and plex) but keep audio playing locally. Something akin to what the roku 3 does with their remote. But also adding a party mode example ( me and gf watch same show using our headphones plugged into our phones so we doesn't wake our children with loud movies.
I'm not sure if either features are coming but it would be awesome.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
1) Non-Android twitch isn't coming unless Google does something miraculous.
Would be awesome to see Nvidia jump on board and support ShadowPlay casting to Chromecast though.
2) Chromecast's platform (I believe) is capable of Bluetooth, but I don't think it's turned on. It's possible Google will add it. The tricky part is just syncing the audio and video since the Bluetooth audio is delayed. Well, that and little things like whether all the code fits in the available storage, heh. The Roku remote with audio is a pretty darn cool feature. Since our phones/tablets are our remotes, it would be awesome to have the option for streaming audio there. We'll see...
My number one is to be able to download my google purchases locally and stream them through my network because my internet connection sucks but my network can easily handle HD streams locally. This would keep me off the torrents for good...
Would kill for MLB at bat app to stream on chromecast. It crashes for me on two different phones using mhl cables... :-/

How was your experience watching movies? Any headaches or feelings of disorientation afterwards? Just curious.... I can't watch 3D movies in the theater because I get headaches from the glasses. Just wondering how it would be on this type of device....
I have excellent experience with 3d and regular movies. I never had a headache using polarized glasses in movie theather. Lcd glasses sometimes makes me uncomfortable. As gear vr goes there is no glasses so there is no ghosting. Each eye receives separate picture with refresh rate around 60 hz.

Once you have your headset locked in that sweet spot it looks amazing, especially when viewed with the fake theater mode (maybe because it gives the illusion of depth?). By the way, I agree with you on the theater headaches and I do not experience it with this Gear :good:
Headaches: Nope
Disorientation: Not when I'm watching a movie or mindfully walking around, but after a session of Anshar Wars I sometimes forget which way I am facing S:

That's good to know! Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad to hear it is a different type of experience. Now I just need to decide whether to upgrade my S4 to the Note 4 just for this ability! Or if I should wait for the Galaxy S6 and hope it is compatible as well?

I have a 3d tv & 100" 3d projector screen used with active glasses, i don't have a problem watching 3d on ether, A couple of my friends dont like to use the glasses so we only watch 2d together,
for me, the GVR movies have less flicker than they have with active glasses so its more comfortable to watch.
they look great, no problems so far with headaches or sickness & i wil be interested to see what my friends that do have problems with my big screen 3d think about the GVR 3d movies...
I will post back once they had a go....
only thing with the GVR is the screen door effect, most noticeable on peoples faces in movies, but as screens get better so should the problem.
Watching this 3D demo in the Oculus CInema, especially in the Void Cinema is simply amazing. I downloaded the 1080p version and in this video i can hardly see or think about the screen door effect. Watch the video till the ending.

3D Top-to-Bottom
Anyone else have issue when trying to view 3d movie in TopBottom format? I have not been able to figure out how to convert a 3DTB to be seen side-by-side.

I have downloaded the video from the Youtube link and when I watch in the Oculus Cinema screen I see it as two images side by side, not in 3D.
What am I doing wrong? Or simply it is not possible to see these videos as 3D?

I think you need to add _TB to the end of the movie file!
Also said i would report back about the people i know that got sick watching 3d on my home cinema, & people with sight problems.
one of them was my mother-in-law, she needs glasses all the time but said the GVR looked great to her & she didn't feel she needed to use glasses.
my other mate has a bad eye and cant watch 3D on the TV (active),,, he also said the GVR 3D moves looked great to him & had no problems with sickness or headaches
The last mate to try uses glasses all the time also, he said the GVR was "SICK" in a good way
He did have problems with some of the small text!
"I think you need to add _TB to the end of the movie file!"
haven't found anything that helped...only get side by side, not 3d video.

add .3DTB or try .3DTBF
3DTBF = full-screen 3D, i.e stretched side by side
3DTB = normal SBS i.e no stretching of the picture

If you want to watch a 3D movie in TopBottim format in the Oculus Cinema, create a text file with the same name as the movie. In the text file write:
{
"format": "3DTB"
}
or
{
"format": "3DTBF"
}
Depending on the video format if fullscreen or not. if you want to watch a 3D 360° video in TopBottom format, put the videofile in the 360video folder and rename the movie to "moviename_TB.mp4" for over-under or "moviename_LR.mp4" for side by side 3D.

So that you can watch a 3D movie in the Oculus Cinema, you have to go to Oculus -> movies -> My videos -> And then create a sub folder called 3D (not 3d). Now put your 3D movie in this newly created 3D folder and it should work when you have a side by side 3D video. If you have a Topbottom video, you have to create also a text file, as i described in my post above.

Thanks for both comments.: they are extremely helpful.
The easiest way is to put them in folder: oculus/movies/trailers/3D and your movies going to be among others in trailers section of oculus cinema. I noticed that side by side dont need any aditional letters to be added to file name. Simple "namehere.mp4" works.

Thanks for simplifying this process for me... Guess my reading comprehension leaves much to be desired... 3d movies can look spectacular in vr cinema. With one video, I even have to strain to see pixels. Now testing different settings in handrake to find best combination for optimal experience.

No problem, regarding video encoding Oculus recommends the following:
We recommend using 1280x720 HD resolution to encode your videos. Higher resolutions will not provide any better quality, meaning you'll waste space and processing power.
We also recommend using a higher bit rate than a typical web stream at that resolution, as the pixels in your video will be magnified on the phone's screen. The optimal bit rate is content dependent, and many videos can get by with less, but 5 Mb/s should give good quality.
While H.264 is the recommended video coding, H.265 videos can also be played.
3D movies should be encoded “full side-by-side” with a 1:1 pixel aspect ratio. Content mastered at 1920x1080 compressed side*-by-*side 3D should be resampled to 1920x540 resolution full side*-by*-side resolution.
Their rationale on video resolution is disturbingly flawed for their own product.
Though the resulting video output is close to 720p, this is in relation to the display that is showing both the video and the VR background.
A 720p video of same content as a result will not look as good as 1080p.
Ideally, the best image would be at the displays native resolution, but the screen door effect nulls some of this premise.
Whatever the case, 720p video should not be equal to 1080p.

Force the Note4 4 to display side by side?

Howdy.
I'm pretty sure the answer is no but is their any way to force the note 4 to display the screen in side by side? not looking for 3D, just want the display in side by side view. I would like to use it with a head set (Gear VR, Google Cardboard, etc) and play all my games and apps. any help would be appreciated.

Don't think that is possible yet, but if you want to use is as an HMD for 2D videos there is a free SBS video player on the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.funghisoft.sbsvideoplayer&hl=en. For 3D movies you can basically use any player - you just need one that supports custom aspect ratios and add 3.556:1.
There is an app SBS which edits the surfaceflinger.so but unfortunately not working on samsung roms.

Still pushing for Samsung support

[Q] Limelight Game Stream Compatible Controller for Nook HD Plus ?

The best way is to get a Bluetooth controller like the PS3 controller. I have used my 360 wired controller with success using a female to female USB adapter and downloading an app but its not the most efficient way. Like I said, any good Bluetooth controller should work great.

How do you like limelight? What kind of lag, if any, do you experience? Just read about the software the other day.

Well I faced a small amount of lag, but not enough to effect gameplay; atleast for Shadow of Mordor. Btw, turning off Wi-Fi on other devices helped reduce lag greatly. Overall, limelight seems to be better than both Splashtop and Kainy with the only requirement being that you have an nvidia graphics card.

Screen burn-in

I have strange screen burn-in on my display. When I go from for example messenger to this XDA app I can still see some icons from messenger and they are some kind of reddish. Do you guys also have this problem or it is just my Nokia 8?

It's image retention, which is a problem with some LCDs. I only get it quite mildly, but I've seen worse examples. You can't stop it from happening, but it should go away after a little while.
It seems LG displays like the one on our Nokia are fairly susceptible to this - it happens on the LG V20, and some Motorola phones with LG displays.
