1. apply for bootloader unlock request then wait for approval (takes between 10 to 20days) here http://en.miui.com/unlock/
2. Log into the Mi account which has acquired unlocking permission on your device
3. Turn off your device, press the Power button and Volume - button at the same time to enter bootloader mode
4. download and Log into the unlocking tool on PC with the same Mi account. Connect the device with the PC using USB cable
5. Press 'Unlock'. The unlocking process will complete in about 10 seconds

ROM is 1GB in size?! That's insane...

You don't need to do that anymore. Just register a Mi account with your phone number and try unlocking, its very fast:

Have you tried to unlock after applying this update? Because I have tried with this ROM (the offical Chinese one and the original custom ROM that was shipped with the Phone). Each time I get stuck at 50% (like most people I see on the internet). I got some logs from the unlock tool which look like there is some server side problem (not the MI account) with signing the unlock token.

Do you have to unlock the bootloader and THEN flash the fastboot rom? How do you flash the rom, any tutorial?
Also, does the fingerprint scanner stop working after unlocking bootloader and flashing rom? thanks!

Great, can you confirm which version of the Unlock client you used? I have found 3 different versions, all pretty well give me the same error, but have different logs. Specifically I am using MiFlashUnlock_1.1.0315.1_en (you can see the version on the Unlock tools main window at the bottom left).

I tried many times with many ROM to unlock this bootloader, I want to start looking into what it will take to get CM12.1 working on this device so I am very keen get get the bootloader unlocked ASAP. I also tried a few variants of their unlocking tool. The general consensus on the Miui forums specifically this post
http://en.miui.com/thread-223915-1-1.html
is that there is a bug on Xaiomi backend which fails to generate the unlock token for most peoples devices. I think people with the Redmi Note 3 (the Mediatek version) can unlock and possible there is some small subset of people with Redmi Note 3 Pro which somehow get the correct unlock code.

OK, I can confirm that the unlock bootloader works with the developer ROM. Happy days finally.
I put TWRP on my Redmi and the latest ROM from http://xiaomi.eu/community/ for now.
If TWRP doesn't work initially you might need to flash a cracked 'boot' img also.

The Chinese Developer ROM (Version: 6.3.17 (MIUI7)) to start with from here:
http://en.miui.com/download-301.html#439
Then the Unlock worked, then I decided to put TWRP on the device and in case I ended up getting another chinese ROM which might lock the bootloader again, I decided to switch to the Xiaomi EU rom from: http://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-3-17.30633/
Though I will switch to CM 12.1 as soon as a reasonable stable one is available. MIUI is alright but I don't like the way it handles security (sort of disables security zones), lock screen notifications (you can't expand them on the lock screen) and in general I think it poor as far memory usage is concerned. There are lots of options with MIUI most of them are pretty useless compared to Cyanogenmod / AOSP (with X-Posed).

So, if I understand you correctly:
1. you register your phone on MIUI site, you get a user identifier
2. you apply for unlocking bootloader, you get a permission, you unlock bootloader with official miui unlocker
3. you enter recovery and install one of the MIUI ROMs from MIUI website, because you want to use MIUI OS
4. but you don't want your phone to be registered to your MIUI account
5. so you start phone in bootloader, connect it to your PC/notebook etc. and you use Miko tools to remove MIUI account???
I don't get it what is the sense of all of this.
Or is there a "secret identifier number" in your Redmi 4x santoni, regardless what OS you use?
And this tool I don't know looks dangerous.
Does anyone want to do a test and write a review of what you can do whit this tool?

This "EDL mode" (stands for Qualcomm Emergency Donwload Mode) confuses me. Could someone explain it in details, or give me a link about it?
It was written, you can use it to unharbrick phone, but EDL mode requires bootlader, so I don't get it how could you use it for unhardbricking.
You can enter into EDL mode on a completly dead phone (no recovery nor bootlader works, or phone doesn't turn on) by connecting hardware test points under the cover of phones while it's connected to PC by USB cable.

It is a special flasher itself If you meant that it's more universal than MI Flash Tool, then the answer is yes.
But once you have to dismantle your phone to play with test points, it's already too complicated, should do only if phone doesn't turn on or no bootloader.
is it works on miui 10?

Plug your phone to a pc, open whichever folder you have adb and stuff installed in, hold shift + right click to have "open cmd here" click it, via cmd do
Fastboot devices
If your device shows up, do
Fastboot oem unlock
Fastboot flashing unlock
Fastboot flashing unlock_critical
Each one of these will reboot your device after you swipe to confirm, so to make sure it reboots in bootloader hold down Vol - after you confirm unlock

Idk why people use MIUI if it causes problems to their phones because Xiaomi pretty much puts a lock on devices and other **** in the name of "security" because of supposed phone theft in china
As soon as ARB was a thing everyone should've jumped ship and stopped using that rom

I mean any rom I tested it myself and I approve it. Xiaomi is a real hassle for the bootloader. There is too much cellphone theft in China so Xiaomi multiplies security

I never tried. Normally it should work. if you have access to the fastboot mode then you can try. Normally the file is used to bypass ARB 4. The purpose of the img file is to register your CMD. the simplest for our super mid 6X would still be to use an EDL cable available on Amazon for the price of 10 dollars. if you flash a new ROM then think to erase the udapt firmware folder.

Probably you bought it in a china store, so your phone come with a fake rom.
First of all you need to enter intesting mode to install unsigned drivers on windows and to make your phone recognizable for the pc.
Download the MiFlash Tool, install it and then go to X:\XiaoMi\XiaoMiFlash, open XiaoMiFlash.exe, if the driver pop up dont show up, you can click on driver section and press install, now you're ready to unlock.
If you've a xiaomi account and have the password of it, you can ask to xiaomi permission to unlock bootloader and flash the latest stable version of MIUI, you can download the unlock utility in the next step after login, the steps are very simple, when you've the confirmation of bootloader unlock open the unlock application, follow the steps and wait till it finish, when the phone reboot, you're ready to flash.
Now download the ROM in en miui website
1) Extract the folder inside the rom file you downloaded before
2)Open MiFlashTool
3)Target the path to ~\rolex_global_images_V10.2.1.0.NCCMIXM_20190110.0000.00_7.1_global
4)Turn off the mobile and enter in fastboot (are the same steps you did before to unlock)
5)Click on refresh button and it should show the phone ID
6)Mark the "clean all" option at the bottom, if you want more secure phone, check the clean all and block/lock (I can't remember ), if you leave it unlock, you'll have the posibility of flash custom recovery/roms or whatever when needed, but is also strong recomendable to leave unlock because you can unbrick the phone in a easy way.
7)Click Flash and wait till is done, the phone will reboot by it self when it end.
The first boot can take a lot of time, if the phone shows that is locked and you can turn on wifi to enter in the xaomi account because it don't show the keboard, you can do the trick by the usage of a SIM card without PIN code to get carrier internet.
Hope it works for you, if you dont understand anything feel free to ask.
*Some times you can have problems with fastboot even if you install the driver properly, the easy way to fix this is go to device admin, right click properties>driver>update driver, search driver manual, select from list look for android click and select bootloader composite, click next and when it finish it will show up as recognize.
Have nice day.

How to change the MI 9 chinese version firmware

Hi all,
I plan to go to China very soon. And to buy a MI 9 (probably the transparent version - 256GB). I was just wondering if it is possible, as of today, to replace the Chinese rom with the EU one.
What are the pro and cons?
Thank you all have a nice day!

hello there!
First of all - Yes, it is possible to replace chinese ROM with EU one. I myself did that on mine and my wifes phone. A Friend of mine was traveling from China to Europe and I got mine phones before european premiere. In order to do that - you will have to unlock the bootloader (fairly simple if you know how to plug USB cable and install one program on the computer) which usually takes about 360 hours. After that - you can flash global ROM, or any other.
Pros - You don't have bloatware from China, no chinese adds, some of the system itself is missing in chinese version (but the phone is fully usable anyway)
you can use xiaomi.eu ROM, which has improvements from community.
Cons - Not sure about warranty after BL unlock, or is the waranty is global.

You will brick your phone, if it's not stock rom and you relock it! If you go full stock and relock it works great.
Can you provide the most up-to-date guide to switch the rom from the CN to EU version?

Hi Kollachi.
just to be sure here...
if i have a Chinese MI 9 it should be possible to flash the Global MI 9 ( Version: V10.2.3.0.PFAMIXM (MIUI10) ) and afterwards lock the bootloader again, without getting a bricked device ??

Just the bullet points, basic knowledge of android needed
1) set up your phone with Xiaomi (register mi account, link the phone with it, log on the mi page and see if everything is in green - passwords, phone number, etc)
2) download mi unlock tool. No need to register or write petitions. just download and run
3) switch off phone. turn on phone while holding the volume down key. It will run in fastboot
4) connect with PC. press unlock on the unlock tool. Confirm 2 warnings (5 secunds pause for each), and look at % meter going up to ~99%. Then you will have information that You need to wait 360 before unlocking the phone
5) wait 360 hours --> 15 days. Use phone as normal until that time.
6) make backup of the phone (Mi cloud backs up sms, call logs, etc).
7) run the unlook tool again, turn the phone to fastboot more (point 4) and press unlock. this time it should go all the way to 100%, stating the phone is unlocked.
8) [optional] the phone will reboot, but you should keep the volume down pressed, to enter fastboot once again. Once in fastboot - you can flash TWRP ( with the help of minimal ADB, there is a guide for it)
9) [optional] once TWRP is flashed - press power, the phone will shut down. then restart the phone, but this time volume UP.
10) [optional] You will enter TWRP recovery. Things to do:
- wipe data (to remove encryption)
- connect the phone to the PC, set the phone to "mount" mode and download apropriate ZIP file to the root folder of the phone
- flash the ZIP
- restart
NOTE, that You will have to login with MI cloud login and pass after boot loader unlock.(first time the phone starts to MIUI). Usually the password is enough, as the phone will discover your phone number. I had some difficulties with it, as I had the alerts in chinese You should have wifi avaliable, as I am unsure if you can connect in this moment via cellular network.
hope it helps.

thats the only thing i dont know... it interests me too.
the Global Version has LTE B20.
I read that the china version doesn't have B20.
after flashing to the EU / Global version, do I have LTE again?

Bands are hardware related, so after flashing global ROM you won't have B20 avaliable.
Other bands will work, so it is possible that You will have LTE in your country, depending on the bands used by your carrier.

although i got the device fairly cheap ( bought it directly at a MI store in China ) it's a bit to much money to end up with a bricked phone.

Yeah I bought the transparent version (living in Switzerland) and as much as I want to try the global ROM, I want to wait a bit. Any way to re-program the left shortcut button to google without changing the ROM? Thanks

Hi Sator.
is that only if you use TWRP for flashing or also if you use Miflash ?

It's safe if you use TWRP since your bootloader is still unlocked, if you flash using mi flash make sure you choose clean all, do not choose clean all and lock (always check before flashing your rom), your phone will be bricked.

So in other words, you can flash mi9(china) with the global rom but you must never lock the bootloader as it will brick the phone.
Only lock the bootloader if the mi9 is on china rom. Is this correct ?

In theory - all above is fairly safe.
You will brick the phone, if you chose to "lock" your bootloader after doing all activities from my list.
don't do that, and you should be ok.

It's not working...
For global is not possible to unlock the bootloader. In my opinion we can submit "Please add" in report bug to release this feature for RMX3311(Global). I already did it, lets more people did this, they may be take action, or just support my report.

If they didn't released the APK till now (it's been one year from launch) i really doubt that they will in the future. The European variants, allot of them, are spelled by carriers and the carriers do not want customers to be able to change their modified firmwares.
Dear Anderson,
Greetings from realme.
In response to your concern, wem are sorry to inform you that we do not recommend you to unlock the device because there is a risk of data security and some device apps may not function properly, and also it may void the warranty.
In case of any further suggestions/ inquires, you can contact us by replying to the same email.
Warm Regards,
realme Support team.
