Adaway on Android N - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone been able to get adaway to work on N with su2. 70? It loads, gets root, tries to copy host files.. Then says "host files cannot be copied".. Select target directory. What is the target directory for N?

I'm on su2.69 and it worked just fine

I flashed this to get on N.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/android-n-preview-npc56p-twrp-recovery-t3332599 is this what you used?

Same error here - with latest TWRP, SuperSU 2.70, and elementalX kernel 4.01... :/

There is a flashable zip for usage with systemless root in the adaway Thread, flash that one too and everything is fine.

It needs Busybox for mine to work.

I took the ota pushed to me from marshmallow.

Same thing here Adaway doesn't work.
I installed android N with the beta enrollment OTA.
I Used the SuperSU 2.70 AutoRoot, then install Adaway and then busybox; not working :/

Work around for ad blocking on Android Preview 5 (latest NPD90G)
#Windows PC download the following:
'SuperSU' ("UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.76-20160630161323.zip") https://download.chainfire.eu/969/SuperSU/

TWRP 3.0.0-1 from https://dl.twrp.me/angler/
Install Android N 7.0 NPD90G on Nexus 6P
reboot into bootloader (Power Button and Vol Down)
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.0-1-angler.img <------ Download from TWRP (3.0.2 seems to always get stuck on TWRP splash screen)
#Boot to recovery
#if TWRP asks for a password to decrypt you will need to format userdata (THIS WILL FACTORY RESET YOUR PHONE!!!)
#ONLY do the following if you can not get directly into TWRP and are asked for a decrypt password
Reboot into bootloader
fastboot format userdata
fastboot format cache
#boot into TWRP recovery
Manually add the files you downloaded via Windows PC to Nexus 6P while in TWRP (put them in the / or /sdcard/Download directory *or a directory of your choice)
#Windows PC unzip MoaAB_ADBlocking_06082016_R1.zip and go MoaAB_ADBlocking_06082016_R1 > system > etc >
# There should be 2 files here hosts, and hosts.defaults
TWRP > Advanced > Terminal
cat /system/etc/hosts
#note that stock only the following should be displayed.
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 ip6-localhost
# The following will copy the hosts file you got from MoaAB zip to /system/etc
cp /sdcard/Download/hosts /system/etc/
^ This is the 'hosts' file you downloaded from MoaAB previously
cat /system/etc/hosts

Reboot phone and test ad blocking on apps 'speedtest' is a good app to test on... No ad after speedtest ad blocking is working....

Flash this in Recovery, Reboot Handy, Start Adaway: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24438995911977059

To get Adaway working in Android N, All you need to do is...
1. Install the Adaway apk
2. Flash this zip in TWRP, https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24438995911977059
And that's it!!!
Don't **** around with updating SuperSU, or installing busybox, or any other suggestions made here.

No mirrors found for that file on filehost.. Can you provide an alternative location please?
Edit: Link eventually worked after refreshing the page a few times..

I'm Just bumping this up so I don't have to make a new thread. The latest update seems to have broken this. The hosts file gets replaced automatically on reboot. Anyone else have this problem?

You're just genius! Works perfectly on Nexus 5X (NBD90W) without even formatting userdata (twrp 3.0.2-2)

Found another way. Mount system r/w in terminal or use root explorer after that adaway should work normally till next reboot.

[Solution] Getting Android Pay working on Pure Nexus , Chroma, or OMNI

Special thanks to @funkyboy1281, @lentm, @macboy3000 for helping getting this work. As far as I can tell, this is the easiest and most straight forward instruction set for getting Android Pay to work on the latest version of Pure Nexus, Chroma, or OMNI Rom
Clean Flashing
Download the appropriate Rom.
Pure Nexus DiscussionChroma DiscussionOMNI (no link available, sorry)
Download Pure Nexus Dynamic Gapps 2-3-16 (Very important, you cannot use 15-3-16 or later). Yes, even if you use Chroma or OMNI, these Gapps should work for you. Link
Download the unSU script for completely unrooting before installing systemless root. Link
Download SuperSU 2.68 (or higher) Link || Discussion
Advance wipe in recovery all but internal storage
Install the ROM, gapps, and unSU
Optional: Install custom kernel
In TWRP, under advanced, go to terminal and type the following:
Code:
echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu
echo BINDSYSTEMXBIN=false>>/data/.supersu
Note: You may also do this using ADB in recovery (adb shell, and then enter the same commands. This is much easier in my opinion, and is the method I used.
Flash 2.68 beta in TWRP
Fully reboot, go through initial device setup
Verify in SuperSU that you cannot install SU to the system. This will verify that we are using the systemless root option
Download SafetyNet Helper and make sure it passes
Install Android Pay and profit!
Dirty Flashing
Verify that SafetyNet still passes in Android.
Verify in Android that /data/.supersu is still present and contains the appropriate options (see clean flashing). You may also verify in recovery by going to terminal commands and entering in:
Code:
cat /data/.supersu
Install the updated ROM (do not reinstall gapps unless your ROM builder specifically tells you to do so. Pure nexus does not require a reflash)
Optional: Install unSU. This was not necessary on PureNexus, but I cannot be sure for other roms. It shouldn't hurt anything to flash.
Optional: Install custom kernel
Install SuperSu 2.68 (or higher)
Check SafetyNet Helper and make sure it still passes
FAQ
Q. Can I still install and use AdAway?
A. Yes. You must first install something in recovery before installing AdAway. See the discussion Thread. You should be installing v3.1 of the app after you install the recovery zip.
Q. Can I still use V4A?
A. Yes. I do not use this however, but it has been reported that nothing special needs to be done.
Q. Can I change the screen density?
A. We have not found a way to do this without tripping Safety Net
..
@skaforey thanks for this thread! Might want to note in the OP that Wiping Data erases the internal storage. Some people may not know that.

Has anyone found a way to adjust the screen density while keeping Android Pay functional?

You (should) be able to change the density through adb using
Code:
adb shell wm density DPI
with dpi being what you want, or if you have root you can do that from a terminal emulator, just remove the adb shell part.
I tried the 2nd method without formating data in different combos to no avail, still hesitant to wipe my internal sdcard, it shouldn't be that hard man, will follow this thread
anyone know other aosp ROMs that have AP working outside of pure nexus?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Following the steps in the top most instructions in the OP...
1) Pure Nexus 3/8 does not have root out of the box, so the Unroot step was not needed.
2) TWRP did not show any files/folders in the /su directory, so the Terminal command didn't work. I booted up the device and did it through the Terminal there instead and then rebooted.
After that, loaded up Android Pay and it says "Android Pay can't be used".
Running SafetyNet reports....
SafteyNet request: success
Response validation: success
CTS profile match: false
Tried different methods, not working for me.
1. Download Pure Nexus 1/03/16 or newer (Layers), the latest PN GApps, UnSU, the latest SuperSU.
2. Backup any important data.
3. Boot into TWRP and wipe everything including internal storage
4. Format data.
5. reboot TWRP with USB-OTG that has fines necessary.
6. Flash Pure Nexus.
7. Flash GApps.
8. Flash UnSU.
9. In terminal I saw I still had a folder /supersu so I deleted that.
reboot. Setup phone with google account. Did not have it restore apps, but did have it restore basic setup from google.
Install Safetynet helper
Still fail CTS Profile Match
Don't know what the people are doing different, but not working for me.
Are you using the PN-Gapps or others?
The updated-unsu is what date?
Thanks!
The only way I have gotten AP to work is from a stock image based ROM. It doesn't seem to work with AOSP ROMs like Pure Nexus.
For example, I am currently running Tupac's debloated stock ROM with Cataclysm MOD, Viper4Android and AdAway ad blocking. Android Pay works fine, as long as you follow the SU steps listed in the OP of this thread.
What I did to get AP to work was removing these lines from updater-script located in META-INF > com > google > android
Code:
ui_print("Flashing SuperSU..");
package_extract_dir("supersu", "/tmp/supersu");
run_program("/sbin/busybox", "unzip", "/tmp/supersu/supersu.zip", "META-INF/com/google/android/*", "-d", "/tmp/supersu");
run_program("/sbin/busybox", "sh", "/tmp/supersu/META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary", "dummy", "1", "/tmp/supersu/supersu.zip");
ui_print(" ");
and removed the supersu folder inside the zip file. I then installed my custom kernel and systemless supersu. After that, I set the permissions for bin folder inside su to 751 using a root explorer and deleted xbin_bind.
@macboy3000 what kernel and what version of SuperSU did you use, ? I tried your method, ROM booted fine but safetynet test failed...
this is how I did it
unzip ROM
edit code out
delete supersu folder
zip ROM
advance wipe everything but internal
flash ROM
flash pn gapps
flash elemental kernel
flash supersu
boot into android, delete xbin_bind
reboot system
permissions on bin folder were already 751, so didn't need to change

Well I tried this and still no luck
I even tried flashing the modified ROM, gapps, and never flashing SuperSU at all (so my rom wasn't rooted at all), and SafetyNet still gives me a red screen. I really wish I knew what was triggering this for some and how others can make it work.
I tried again using 2.57 SuperSU and Elemental X and still fails. Would someone that got it working be able to post a more detailed log of exactly what steps you're using and exactly what files you're flashing.

[ROOT][6.0][XT1097] Systemless root for Moto X 2014

Hello, everyone!
TL;DR: You're about to perform a systemless root installation on your phone so make sure you have uninstalled Xposed Framework, uninstalled root, the device's bootloader is unlocked and your phone's boot image is in its untouched stock state. Then boot into TWRP and install SuperSU-v.279-SR3 or newer.
UPDATE 2017-01-19:
- Provided missing bootloader information regarding root. Thanks, @Charlita for the heads-up!
- Moved TL;DR section to the top.
UPDATE 2017-01-15:
- SuperSU-v.279-SR3 learned how to use systemless mode as default flashing method for Motos. This is great news as the installation process now is just a matter of flashing the SuperSU installer. The segmentation fault had been fixed on SR2 and this version also includes that fix.
- Included a TL;DR section.
UPDATE 2016-12-25:
- SuperSU-v.279-SR1 contains a regression bug regarding the "segmentation fault". Skip this version for now. I've already contacted Chainfire.
- suhide: as the Chainfire himself stated, the tool is a losing game so I'm not putting any further effort here.
UPDATE 2016-11-03:
- As of SuperSU-v2.78-SR3 boot image patching works out-of-the-box. Just install it and you're done!
- TWRP version 3.x works as expected.
- Unfortunately, SafetyNet checking fails as Google constantly updates the server-side code.
- WIP: Check if Chainfire's suhide are able to help here.
UPDATE 2016-08-08:
- Added a backup reminder.
- Added flashable zip systemless_root_enabler_by_glauberlima.zip.
After a few days playing with it, I finally managed to perform a systemless root install for our beloved Moto X 2014
Benefits:
- Install OTA updates when they arrive;
- SafetyNet checking will pass so Android Pay can be used (not available in Brazil yet).
Requirements (links below) :
- Android 6 Marshmallow
- Bootloader must be unlocked otherwise you won't be able to root your phone;
- Boot partition must be in its original untouched stock state otherwise, SuperSU installer won't be able to patch it;
- System partition must be untouched as well but a simple uninstall of applications that have changed it should be enough. This step is not mandatory but if your system partition remains changed SafetyNet checking will fail;
- Your device must be unrooted. SuperSU has the option "Completly remove root". Use it;
- If you have Xposed Framework installed, uninstall it;
- You'll need ADB and Fastboot in order to flash stock boot.img if applicable;
- TWRP. Version 3.0.2-2 works just fine. If you prefer 2x series, I highly recommend version 2.8.7.1;
- SuperSU-v2.79-SR3 zip installer (or a newer version). DO NOT TRY AN OLDER VERSION. WILL NOT WORK;
Install guide:
- Make a Nandroid backup first using TWRP;
- Uninstall Xposed Framework if applicable;
- Uninstall SuperSU;
- Connect your device to your computer via USB;
- Reboot into bootloader:
Code:
adb reboot-bootloader
- Restore stock boot partition (you can skip this step if you already been on stock boot):
Code:
fastboot flash boot xt1097_boot_stock_with_may_2016_update.img
VERY IMPORTANT: The binary file boot xt1097_boot_stock_with_may_2016_update.img is device dependent. I have extracted stock boot.img from victara May 2016 update full ROM package and put it here. If you are trying on the other variants, make sure you will use the right image.
- Reboot into Recovery (TWRP);
- Flash the attached zip file systemless_root_enabler_by_glauberlima.zip. This will set both variables SYSTEMLESS=true and BINDSYSTEMXBIN=false. Without these variables set, SuperSU will fail to systemless root the device. Feel free if you want to manually enter the commands in the Command Prompt:
Code:
adb shell "echo SYSTEMLESS=true>/data/.supersu"
adb shell "echo BINDSYSTEMXBIN=false>>/data/.supersu"
- Install SuperSU and reboot system. If the first boot fails, just wait - the second will work I promise you!
- As soon as Android UI shows up you should be systemless rooted;
- Confirm SuperSU is installed by recognizing the green icon on your app drawer;
- Open up any root app you have. The world-famous Superuser permission request dialog should pop-up;
- Install SafetyNet Helper, in order to attest your Android, is passing Google's SafetyNet checking: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.scottyab.safetynet.sample
Now you should be good. Congrats!
Go ahead and get some systemless apps:
- Systemless Xposed Framework
- Systemless Adaway
This procedure should work for the other variants too - all you need is the original boot.img
If you need any help feel free to ask.
Attached you can find the screenshots taken from my XT1097 after the procedure

Since your device already has the untouched stock boot you don't need to flash anything.
I seem to be having trouble installing the "Systemless Xposed". It errors out with - ! Failed: Unable to extract zip file!
I have verified "systemless root - ver 2.76" and tried re-downloading the zip. Any thoughts?

Could you provide your recovery.log from TWRP so we can see the detailed logging information?
You can pull it from your device by running the following command in command prompt:
Code:
adb shell cat /tmp/recovery.log | clip
This will copy recovery.log contents to the clipboard. Paste it into notepad then save and attach here.

Hi @vpxf
The unmodified boot.img is a requirement for SuperSU as it tries to patch the boot image on-the-fly during the install process (by the time you flash it using TWRP). If the image is not in its original state, SuperSU will fail to install in systemless mode.
Regarding your question about custom ROMs compatibility I don't know if the SafetyNet checking will pass/fail. That's a good test to perform.

I've attached the log. I did notice "unzip: zip flags 1 and 8 are not supported".
NOTE: I was able to flash the 85.7 version found in the second post of the "Systemless Xposed" thread. The newest 86.2 is the one giving me troubles.
As glauberlima found out in the other thread, you need to re-zip the xposed installer with 7-zip (that's what i used at least) and the install will work.

15 minutes... That's definitely too much.
I'm about to update this guide with my new findings so If you don't mind I'd like to suggest you this:
Repeat the steps but this time skip the update to latest version. After the reboot access SuperSU. It should display a message regarding your su needs update. Accept it.
Make sure your nandroid backup is up to date.
Same thing, but it's possible that my boot image is not up to date and I have no other boot backup to test.
I have only a complete backup (boot + system without root), perahps I'll try later with complete restore ...
Thanks
Something went wrong, the root works fine, but when I run the SafetyNet test, I got "CTS profile match: false", I just want to keep the OTA upgrades working, if I did something wrong, is there any way to unroot and do the systemless root again?? Thankss

MHA-L29C636B172 perfect boot image

Hi guys
if anyone is interested in testing out this boot image i created for my c636b172
removes all encrypt, perfect mounting options for all partitions (this took a while to figure since some caused bootloops)
also reduced voltages for wifi module (may be unstable, if anyone has problems let me know i can try and adjust, otherwise if im not getting problems ill just keep decreasing it)
how to install
1. make sure twp is installed
2. in data/dalvik-cache delete arm and arm64 folders.
3. boot into twrp > wipe cache and dalvik
4. flash the boot image in twrp (flash image select image flash to boot)
5. if you had su installed, flash the zip again
6. go to wipe cache and dalvik again (just in case)
7. reboot and enjoy, theoretically should be slightly faster, and less overhead.

if anyone has a request for their specific boot image let me know and ill add the same values.
Thank you for your work. Is this only for C636 devices or would this work on any device.
Could your reassemble it to add features like DT2W (doubletap to wake)?

i think DT2W is disabled, no flags of it in the boot image, you can try this guide.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/enable-double-tap-to-wake-mate-9-t3580764
the boot image is for the c636, im not sure if you can flash it on another base you can try just have a stock boot.img handy
or to be safe you can send me your boot.img and ill edit it the same.
Thank you for your friendly offer!
I am back on C432B156 with supersu modified boot. The original boot img linked here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/development/stock-boot-img-library-t3573312
Mine is https://mega.nz/#!EABCVJwb!wopFOGqJzbpIX6edxM5Y9IVeZAIJ_CAJYUn3q4cc074
I recognized that I have no adb access in TWRP 3.02.2
I can not mount my pc connection. Would this be fixed?

no, twrp 3022 doesnt have MTP access right now.
Thank you for the info.
Which advantage is on daily usage. I guess I would have to install supersu again, for it modifies the boot.
My device: Mate 9 supersu b156 Mediapad X2 GEM 701->703 B212 KangVIP (AJ mod)
Mount does work in 3.1.0. Though you have to tap on "Mount USB Storage", then unmount before it actually mounts..

Using a file Explorer with root support, navigate to /data/dalvik-cache and remove those 2 folders. Alternatively use a terminal app and 'rm -rf /data/dalvik-cache/arm*'.
I guess you could use the file manager or terminal in twrp.

[solved] Uninstall Magisk module offline/without Magisk?

(other thread here)
It seems that a Magisk module that I have recent installed (no idea which one) is preventing my phone to boot correctly. I know that because reflashing the latest OTA update removes Magisk and then it works perfectly. As soon as I flash Magisk, it doesn't boot anymore.
Even after flashing SuperSU, Magisk Manager doesn't let me see/remove installed modules.
Is there a way to do that?

Use mount-magisk.zip found in collection of modules thread and delete the folder via twrp in /magisk
@duxishere Thanks so much!
I searched for "Magisk module offline uninstall" but did find anything. This was exactly what I needed! The culprit was App Systemizer. I've had it installed for some time and it didn't cause any problems. I uninstalled it, and it worked! Flashing it again restored the boot problem.

If you have a current version of Magisk installed, yes you do. Enable viewing hidden files and folders in your file explorer. The dot at the beginning of the folder name means it's hidden...

If you can launch TWRP then :
Check magisk.img exist
1. Go to "advanced" and then click on "File Explorer".
2. Check there is "magisk.img" file under "/data"
Backup magisk.img
1. Go to "advanced" and then click on "terminal command".
2. type following command
Code:
cp /data/magisk.img /data/magisk.img.bk
Mount magisk.img
1. Make a temp folder
Code:
mkdir /mktmp
2. Mount magisk.img to /mktmp
Code:
mount -o loop /data/magisk.img /mktmp
3. Navigate to mktmp and remove your module
Code:
cd /mktmp
rm -rf /mktmp/xxxx
Unmount magisk.img and reboot to check if it's work
1. Unmount magisk.img
Code:
umont /mktmp
2. Leave terminal and reboot the phone
3. Enjoy!

just use "ls" command on step 3 after changing directory to mktmp , to show installed modules.:silly:
My Phone Specification : Moto X Play ------ 7.1.1 Stock Firmware -------- Squid kernel --------- rooted using Magisk ------ systemless xposed module "xposed_25" installed using magisk module(Uninstalled by this method !) .:victory:
Tanks a lot!
Crossbreeder lite made my phone unusable. Working fine again!
magisk.img not found in /data
This works like charm, if you can't find the magisk.img in `/data` check `/data/adb` ... I hope this work .

Own domain huh? Business growing? Hehehe I only came for the uninstall zip, hey quick question, I'm on a micro sd-less phone (big news), still a flashaholic, kinda, but my phone so happens to require a data format every time for gsi's, where would you recommend keeping the "things to keep on your device" (Magisk related) so i don't have to carry an otg and drive everywhere i go? Thank you sir, you almost get more thanks than posts! Talk about reputation!

Do you have to completely wipe the device? Or can you keep internal storage intact? If not, it sounds like you're out of luck.
Nice thread hijack, by the way... :laugh:

Well i do a factory reset, flash system img and reboot, let it loop because it will, and then do a data format before it will boot, so system, caches, and data go... (Huawei, see)

Would be cool if someone could share the adb solution. In the FAQ is just written "email me for this" wtf?!? It is ****ing anoying to reflash the whole system everytime a module isnt working (yeah thats what you need to do if your device doesnt have twrp, and a lot of a/b devices dont have twrp). Also you need to delete all user datas because you flashed the system new and the new system doesnt know the encryption key for the user datas. There need to be a better solution than using twrp or email the dev for adb solution.
The easiest way would be to make it possible that magisk manager can manage (remove/deactivate) the modules while there is no patched boot.img installed. This would solve all problems related to a/b devices without twrp and magisk modules (not booting or anything else) just flash stock boot.img remove the problematic module flash patched boot.img and done. This is not possible because the module section in magisk manager is hidden when there is no patched boot.img installed.
Second thing i noticed, magisk manager doesnt reset the active modules when you wipe the app data. This should be a MUST. Would also solve the problem of not booting modules without wiping the whole system on a/b devices without twrp.
Apply .disable_magisk

Hi!. I have this user of XDA Dev. hanging out for a time... well the fact is I'm new. My problem (not the only one) maybe merge a kind of solution to this. And this could be putting the ".disable_magisk" blank file inside the cache partition as an ADB Sideload update.
Next to this. I've found that to do that it's not as simply as it seems to be cause I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S7 Nougat 7.0 Version. And all the examples with update-binary file I have, are from downgrade versions...
I'm stuck in a bootloop due to the Magisk Xposed SDK 24 module. I think this module & encription is not good (as I've read on the Xpose module thread).
So, here I'm asking how to make an script to run directly on the Stock recovery using ADB Sideload, which will put the blank ".disable_magisk" file inside the /cache partition. I need just this, and I think this could help some people who are stuck on this issue.
Now, I have this Thread. But really I need the advice of an expert telling me what to do in order to achieve this. As I think this is an easy labor, but you have to know how to do it... If someone is able to clarify please, I will appreciate so much.
Thanks!

I need to know how to locate the mount point of my /cache partition at the stock recovery ADB Sideload. Then, to mount it, transfer the blank file to it, and then unmount /cache. I think it's an easy labor. So here my incomplete updater-script:
ui_print("Trying to make an script with ADB Sideload..."); CRLF
ui_print("Creating file to disable Magisk Modules..."); CRLF
I NEED THE MOUNT POINT HERE CRLF
ifelse package_extract_file(".disable_magisk", "/cache/.disable_magisk") == "t", ui_print("OK!"), ui_print("Failed!"); CRLF
UNMOUNT COMMAND HERE. CRLF
--last blank line--
So, I need to complete that, BUT things gets difficult when I need the update-binary for my Nougat 7.0 version, and to sign the whole .zip file in order my stock recovery recognizes it. I think this last thing could be made by this Thread. But really I don't know. Please help.
Thanks!.

Mate 10 Pro lost root

Hi guys
I have rooted my mate 10 pro using the guides from this forum and everything worked like a charm.
Now I wanted to check on my adaway to install the latest block lists and it said that the phone has to be rooted. So I opened my SU and it said root undetected.
I haven't done any updates or what else could have caused the loss of root.
Any ideas on how that could have happened?

Which SU were you using? SuperSU, PHH Superuser or Magisk?
I do know that SuperSU sometimes loses root, a reboot usually fixes it. Or flash it again.
If SuperSU or PHH I recommend switching to Magisk. It has modules that you can install and uninstall easily and ad-blocking is one of them (Unified hosts block).
You would need Twrp to install it the easiest way, you can get that here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/development/huawei-mate-10-pro-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3769904
And Magisk from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Flash TWRP if you don't have it already, and if your current doesn't have decrypt support:
Then simply reboot to fastboot mode (Vol down + USB + power).
Then use the command
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp.img
After you have flashed TWRP, type 'fastboot reboot', and hold Vol up + Vol down (while USB is still plugged in).
When in TWRP, enter pin/password to enable decryption.
Transfer Magisk to sdcard and flash using Install button.
If it says ramdisk is already patched you will have to restore stock image. You can do this by downloading your current firmware update.zip from http://pro-teammt.ru/firmware-database/
When you have update.zip, extract update.app from it and download Huawei Update Extractor.
Extract and open Huawei Update extractor, then go to settings and disable Header check (else it will give you an error when you open update.app).
Open update.app in the program and rightclick on Ramdisk and Extract Selected. Now go to fastboot mode and flash 'fastboot flash ramdisk ramdisk.img'.
After this go back to TWRP and flash Magisk again.
After it is flashed open Magisk Manager, tap the hamburger menu and then on Downloads. Here you can download modules. Unified Hosts block is the one you'd want for ad-block. When it is flashed, reboot and open a terminal app. Use the command 'hosts' to enter the Unified hosts block interface. I only use 'm' for ad blocking.
You could set up Adaway systemless blocking with Magisk too if you prefer Adaway.
Thank you for your help! I have Super SU and the reboot fixed the problem.
I will go through your post and use the tips you gave!
Thank you again!!
