Battery Drain from Google Play Store on 5.1.1 - Galaxy S6 Active

Has anyone noticed a lot of battery drain from Google Play Store since updating to 5.1.1? the only way I can stop the drain, is to disable Google Play Store.
I am happy to report that the problem was with apps not being able to update in the play store! After trying the troubleshooter I found in the Play Store I had Google call me and after trying a few other things, she had me delete my Google account and reinstall it. That was the last step before a factory reset! It corrected the problem I was having, and I hope it helps some of you, too!

It does this to me if you have updates that need to install. Hopefully marshmallow will fix how often it tries to sync. It's very active in the background. I believe you can choose to not have it sync in your settings menu. It may help. Mine still last a long tie but you are dead on with drainage. I noticed this right away when I updated to 5.1.1

I figured out that I can no longer update or download ANYTHING from play store

My battery life is back to normal.

What's with the mandatory 128MB update when you first boot the phone?
This thing runs HOT - 15 minutes and the back top of the phone is way warmer than my N4. Can't wait for devs to get kernel control apps going.......
GPS lock is FAAASSST. That was one of things I cared about. Much quicker than the N4.
LTE speed/signal seems low for where I am - map says I should be getting full connection (Denver area). But it works!
Volume is PITYFUL even at full! Hoping some FauxSound magic on this in the future.
Play Store Update Issues:
I have about 9 play store updates (Youtube, Google Earth, Twitter, TrustGo Antivirus) that all say 'update', but the store won't update them. It shows as downloading then nothing happens.
I'll call Google and ask about this, but clearly a bug!
I believe I've had that issue with apps not updating in the past...
I *think* I fixed it by deleting the Google Play data/cache.

Thanks for the reply
UPDATE:
A quick power down and reboot, and apps are updating just fine.
Sorry for the false alarm on the play store stuff.
The thing I found annoying was that it was auto installing apps I had installed across both my n4 and n7. I do understand that it was just looking at my account and installing the aggregate of installed apps. When I tried to remove them it tried to auto install the apps I didn't want on my phone TWICE more. It was like whack-a-mole.
Finally seems to have conceded that I actually do know which Apps I want on my phone..

stop Google play services auto update

Hi guys, i have a question. Is there any way to stop Google play services auto updates? I ask, because suddenly my battery drain problem on kit kat came back, and lookin i found that Google ps was on versión 5.x, so i uninstalled updates an left it on versión 4.x, and everything came back to normal.
settngs/apps/all apps , google playstore service... go to manage n clear all data... den uninstall...den disapble
Then he won't have Google Play services at all. It's not what he's asking for.
OP - no, unfortunately there is no way to stop it from auto-updating. However, if you clean the data as I wrote here - you might get lucky and not have any drain with version 5.x. I have it and it's fine.

Thanks man, i'll try that
Wakelock Termination....
There is only one way perfectly working for me so far with all updates for Google play services....
Install Xposed Framework
Install Wakelock Terminator Wakelock Terminator on Play Store
Activate it in Xposed
Open the Wakelock Terminator and look for google play services
Activate Wakelock Terminator for Google Play Services (In free version only 1 can be added to wakelock).
Add these values in the Filter for Google Play Services
NlpCollectorWakeLock NlpWakeLock CheckinService NetworkLocationLocator
Restart.... You can even check it in app and running menu in settings that you would only see 1 process running for play services and it won't be keeping your CPU awake..... Check it using Wakelock Detector....
Go ahead and give it a try and enjoy.... :good:
Share this info if this helps you..... Let as many people know about it.....

I think with the advent of Google Play Services 6.5.99 (or perhaps a bit earlier) the auto-update issue has become a problem again.
According to my recent observations Google Play Services 6.5.99 performs periodic location pings (every 15min) or so. With my settings ("Device only" location mode, but "Location reporting" and "Location history" turned "Off"), it is using GPS and thus unnecessarily drains the battery.
I don't see the problem with Google Play Services 6.1.05 so I'd rather wish Google would not auto-update Google Play Services.
Call me a newbie (I'm fine with that because I am as far as Android is concerned) but I find it outrageous that Google can update a core component on my phone without my consent, introducing phone issues, sub-par performance, or undesired behaviour at their whim. An opt-out facility for the auto-updates would be the least one would expect.
The Google Play Store allows one to opt out of automatic updates to downloaded applications so why isn't this setting not consulted when it comes to "Google Play Services"? I realise that probably no one here knows the answer, but I found it very hard to find a place to actually provide Google with feedback regarding "Google Play Services".

I ve faced the same isse with the repeated gps activities since the last update from the play Services.
But i think the cause of this phenomenon is the Google search! Ive disabled the google search app, and now I dont have this strange gps requests!

Thanks heaps for confirming.
I wasn't sure whether my (stock) system got messed up somehow.
I wonder why there hasn't been more of an outcry over the new location pinging behaviour. I find it unacceptable and can only believe it is due to a bug rather than intended.
I hope that future versions of "Google Play Services" will behave differently and found it frustrating that I couldn't locate a forum where Google developers would be listening to "Google Service Play" concerns. I made a post in a "Google Search" thread at a Google forum (not allowed to link to it yet) but I'm afraid it is off-topic there.

I first believed "Google Search" to be the culprit as well because disabling it got rid of the location pings.
However, that only worked once and later attempts to kill the pings by disabling "Google Search" were unsuccessful. Perhaps you should check once in a while whether the pings are coming back because it appears to me that it really is "Google Play Services" and it is just being triggered by various sources.
Also, being able to initiate a google search by just wiping up the home button, is a rather crucial feature to me. Disabling "Google Search" would force me to fire up a browser instead which would be a lot more cumbersome. Given that a different version of "Google Play Services" does not perform the pings even while "Google Search" is available, I'd say one should attempt to tackle the problem by addressing "Google Play Services" not "Google Search".
BTW, I opted out of "Google Now" just to make sure that there aren't any location based cards that request location updates.

[Q] Google services issues anyone

hey everyone , I got my phone on the 7th and since I've had it I've been having issues with battery drain. and Google services is causing this issue. I am going to attach a screenshot so u guys can check it out. Anyone having this problem as well? I already tried factory reset but that didn't help.
Google Services doesn't even show up on mine, I am assuming Google Play Services is the same thing, and it's 8% on mine, a little high I would think, do you have a bunch of accounts that sync all the time?

I don't use much other than Google and Facebook accounts and I don't think that's enough to justify the amount of battery Google services is taking up

You can downgrade your Google Play Services apk but it will self update and some applications will not work without the latest version of Google Play Services. My battery is also draining fast because Google Play Services is forcing my phone to stay awake. But now it seems to be fine. Just give it some time to settle.

google play services crashing without an error message

hello guys
phone samsung s5830
android version 2.3.5
rooted
link2sd installed
a while ago my phone screen stopped working for no reason it was not even because i dropped my phone , touch screen was fine and you could see the screen lights up but nothing on the screen so i had it changed when i got my phone back i noticed that google play store was missing and also went to the apps list but could not find google play services so i just rebooted the phone and everything was back to normal then after some time the phone started to lag every like ten seconds however after a day or two of monitoring the running services i noticed that google play services ( gmscorestatsservice---indexworkerservice---checkinservice ) was constantly trying to restart but the timers would also remain the same and without getting any error message
to solve the problem i tried the following:
removing all the apps - resetting the phone - did not work
removing all the apps - unrooting - resetting the phone - did not work
rooting the device again - resetting the phone - did not work
note: the phone is almost useless because of this issue
so if anyone can give me an advice i would be so much grateful
thanks
I've got the same issue with my S5830i and Google Play Services 7.8.99
try to downgrade google play services (com.google.android.gms.apk)

Wouldn't it be updated automatically again?
thread: google play services crashing without an error message
thanks for your efforts guys
but google play services are always updated automatically so is there a way i can downgrade and prevent it from updating again and how can i downgrade
to downgrade uninstall google play services and install the attached file (first you have to unzip the content).
to prevent it from updating automatically I guess it depends on how updated the application you use.

Are you positive? There's been an update out for a while now? Google Play Services has never updated automatically for me. I always get a notification saying that Google Play Services needs to be updated. To downgrade go to your phone's installed apps, find Google Play Services, and press Uninstall Updates. Try this website for updates. Read the instructions on this exact page to find the appropriate Google Play Services for your device. They are for every device, yours included. Like I said though, follow the instructions to find your exact update.
