Hi,
I would not worry to much if your device is 30+ it's normal. Now if its touching eg
50.. 60 + C start worrying.
My phone is at moment 31.2 C
Just remember...
Temperature, also depends on "other" factors also.
eg.. If you have an phone case /cover,
Temperature of your surroundings can play
a role.. etc
What workload it's doing. fo long period of time.. eg games, movies, music etc
But 30 C plus, is normal.
I sometimes let my device run over 40 plus.
Good luck

Is this something related to marshmallow??

Only when wifi connected then temp gOes up otherwise its normal below 30

i am getting same amount of heat, residing in Karachi and updated to MM. ?By the way, how is your battery life? for me it simply sucks as compared to Lollipop. I even factory resetted.

[Q] has anyone upgraded to the official lollipop?

I've heard mixed reports regarding the latest ota update, some users have complained about the battery running dry in a much shorter time others reported apps crashing much more frequently. What do you guys think? Have anyone upgraded? Share your experiences please

I do not know about the OTA update, but I think the cause of the battery drain is more due to the applications installed on the device. For example after I upgraded to Lollipop (MaximusHD) my battery was draining ridiculously fast. Turns out it was the Gmail - INBOX application which was causing it. I would suggest clearing your device and checking the battery. Then slowly adding applications and testing it. Will definitely help you figure out the cause of the drain. Cheers.

thanks man, I think I'm gonna do a full reset after upgrading. should fix everything.
so your battery is now lasting more than it used to with android 4.4.3? I'm asking bc I've heard that android lollipop it's more battery friendly u know.
Well it has improved. But not drastically!. . Though I should mention my device is 2 years and a few months old, and I haven't really taken good care of my battery. I charge it overnight nearly every other day. But taking all that into consideration it gives me oddly 12 hours with normal usage. And 6 hours on a heavy day!
Used to get around 6 hours on heavy usage and 9-10 hours on moderate usage when i was on kitkat !! .
How do you like lollipop so far?
I have upgraded to Lollipop (5.0.2) and generally it is fine. Battery life is about the same, speed is also about the same.
I do have a question for anyone who has upgraded.. have we lost our ability to use the "Ok Google" Call command? It used to work on Kit Kat but now it comes up with my password prompt (pattern lock) before the phone dials out. I use this occasionally when I am driving.
Is this a new security measure in Lollipop or am I missing a setting on the phone?
Thanks in advance.

I9295 becomes very hot and huge battery drain

Hey guys
I already posted my problem in the thread related to LineageOS, but since the issue couldn't be solved I want to try it this way.
So what is my problem?
While using my phone it gets very hot. According to Powerful Monitor the CPU gets up to 65 °C and battery up to 35 °C, while under load. Besides this my battery goes down rapidly. So watching 10 minutes of YouTube sucks up 8-9 % battery. Just a plain normal video.
What is my setup?
I9295, running LineageOS 14.1-2017-06-06-UNOFFICIAL-jactivelte, OpenGApps 06-07-17 nano, only apps installed manually are GeekBench, Powerful Monitor and YouTube. Baseband is I9295XXUDOB4 (German unbranded DBT). I bought a new original Samsung battery and currently using it. So it's basically stock LineageOS.
What have I already tried?
- flashed stock firmware (all available for Germany that are unbranded). With and without erasing NAND, with different Odin versions. Last time I flashed I used Odin 3.07
- different batteries: the old ones the phone came with (bought it used), the new one I bought separately, a new one from PowerCell with higher capacity (2900 mAh)
- different phones. I have a second I9295 from a friend, that worked definitely without any issues. Same problem.
- different custom ROMs: now I'm running LineageOS, but I also tried CM13 (20161228), CM12.1, MIUI and Super WizCyan (everything from xda)
Is it possible break something ciritcal when disassembling the phone? Both phones came with broken covers for the USB port, so I opened it, but only removed the screws and the mid-frame (?) and replaced the cover. Nothing was damaged, at least I was very carefully and didn't see anything that looked suspicious.
Another very strange thing I noticed:
If I use the phone a lot (lets say 30 minutes, so almost 25 % battery!) and after that the phone is not in use for an hour or so, the battery goes up for up to 7-8 %. How it that possible?
I really have no idea what else to do.
Any help is appreciated.

Hey there. Well, there are tons of possible reasons why your phone acts like that. My modest opinion is that you have some sort of wakelock active in background. Install both Wakelock Detector and Gsam Battery Monitor, grant all the permissions and let it obtain data for some minutes. Than look at the results, and check if there's any Wakelock active. If instead Gsam shows an excessive consume by the kernel, try in terminal the following commands:
Code:
su
setenforce 1
setenforce 0
Then see if there's still the drain (you have to wait some minutes).
If it still doesn't work, I'd advice you to update to the latest stock firmware (doesn't matter which Country, just select a non-branded one), reinstall LOS again and verify if with nothing installed you still get the battery drain.
Anyway, IMHO it's not an hardware related problem, even messing up with the components this shouldn't happen. The only hardware fault could be the battery short-life, but 1st you said you just replaced it, 2nd it would not justify the thermal overload. Let us know
Thank you very much for your answer. I'm quite short on time next days but maybe I have a few minutes on sunday.
On the matter latest stock firmware: already tried that on monday, still too much battery drain, but I didn't install LOS till now. Maybe sunday.
But still thank you
Finally I found some time to try your suggestions
I skipped the part of trying it on the old setup, so I flashed everything new with latest stock(UDOB4-DBT, not the last one but still Android 5.0.1), then TWRP 3.1.0, after that LOS 14.1-20170606 and OpenGApps 7.1 nano from 17-06-06. Only apps I installed beside that are GSam Battery and Wakelock Detector. Root activated and granted where asked and needed.
Here I uploaded the pictures I took from GSam Battery.
So what seems strange to me:
- why is Phone Radio used at all? I don't have a SIM card inserted...?! It's on a very high level, even if the screen isn't on.
- The battery gets hot quite fast. If it's not in use, everything is fine. But as soon as I use the phone it gets hot.
- As you said: kernel usage seems quite high, tried to install "Terminal Emulator" and executed the commands - no difference.
According wakelock: where do I check that?

Sorry for the delay, but if you do not quote/reply me I cannot see the message cause I'm not extremely active on XDA. Anyway...
- Phone Radio is used even without SIM, at least in TouchWiz, dunno in LOS, but it looks like so. The only way to disable it is Airplane Mode.
- It gets hot due to kernel usage, what I still do not understand is why it does so.
- Those commands where the only commands I think could be useful in this case (they set SELinux Permissive/Enforcing)
But if you say you get the Drain on TouchWiz too, the problem is serious and there's a (little?) chanche it would be HW related.

No need to apologise, you're doing this in your free time...
Besides that, I wasn't at home all week, so I couldn't try anything even if you had answered.
So, how do I get the kernel to calm down and stop draining my battery? I mean, I didn't install anything besides clean LOS and GApps. So what could lead to so much kernel usage? Are there any further information that could help you?

The situation is very weird. Let's analyze.
1) TW/LOS doesn't matter. Battery drain in both
2) No apps installed which could cause wakelocks
3) Battery SHOULDN'T be the problem
4) The drain is recognised as kernel "usage", though it couldn't be real 'cause of point 1
5) Neither Permissive nor Enforcing SELinux mods helped
At this point it doesn't look so much a SW problem, but more an HW one. About:

Well, sometimes the discharge happens so fast the battery doesn't calculate the remaining capacity so well, and after some minutes the real charged cells are more than the "estimated" ones. It would explain the "goes up" of the percentage, but still not the drain.
It's very strange and very rare, but there's an infinitesimal possibility that the thermal paste went to the hell. And in this case there's not that much to do.
That's pretty pessimist though. I'd advice you to format everything, reinstall the latest stock TW and stick with it, and if it still doesn't work, try with some apps like Greenify and ForceDoze (this one works just with 6.0+) in order to at least TRY to reduce the drain.
I'm sorry I cannot help you more, if anyone has some suggestion, please let us know.

Next strange thing is, I have two S4 Active devices, both have the same problems. Am I just unlucky enough to get two broken phones?
Still, the device I got from I friend was ok the moment he gave it to me. He said battery lasted for only one day, but that would be ok. So it has to be something I did with the phone.
Youre are not alone. My Phone was/is also getting hot.
Then I did a full wipe ( format also internal memory partition!)
I'm current running cm13 (CM13 (20161228)). Batterie works now / normal ok / 1 / 2 Day s ( no great usage ). But when i telephone with someone it's getting hot in 15 min. Modem Version is I2995XXUDPB3.

Have you flashed any custom ROM? Try downloading an entire stock firmware for your country / carrier from sammobile and flash through odin 3.09 and check. The S4 active generally gets hot on usage but should not get very hot. You can also try using powersave mode that limits cpu max freq and prevents heating. Battery on normal usage shoukd last for little under a day to a day with normal usage unless you are using data (otherwise set mobile networks to GSM only which saves battery and reduces heat)

Normally i have seen issues flashing through odin 3.10 and prefer 3.07 or 3.09. If the firmware flashed correctly and you do not have any issues then it should be fine.
CPU temp of 65% without powersave mode is fine and watching youtube videos does consume battery. Try a different charger / cable combination as that too can have issues. If the battery gets charged quickly (on stock kernel under 2 - 2.5 hours from 0 to 100) then there is definitely an issue with the charger and it will drain quickly too.

I tried 3.10, 3.12 and 3.07 so far. Not successfully. Tried 3.09 now, we'll see.
I have a Sony Xperia Z1C as comparison, YouTube needs maybe 1% for 5 Minutes.
Cables/Chargers shouldn't be the problem. I have the original Samsung, also cable. Charged to 0 to 75 % in 90 Minutes. Same with cable and charger from Anker. So should be fine?
So no new ideas?

I have no idea too but i have the same Trouble with mine BUT I'm still using the original Rom and didn't flash it. So maybe it is an Hardware issue.
My Battery is getting old, yes, but it is the third one. The Phone gets hotter than in its first years.
I hope you'll find a reason!
My i9295 always has been like this: 1 minute on-screen time = 1% battery loss. So this basically is a 2 hour phone... Stock or custom rom didn't matter. A friends i9505 used a lot less power, therefore I assume that the LCD (instead of the S4's AMOLED) is the problem.

camera causing p9 to shutdown

hi hope someone can help with this.
I have a huawei p9 32gb EU version
model EVA-L09 emui 4.1.1 (still on) android 6.0 (says no update available)
build number is: EVA-L09C432B182
An issue seems to have developed in the past 2 weeks (i've had it almost a year) - it has decided to close itself down when I try to use the camera. I am using the default/stock camera app not a 3rd party one. I want to make clear it does not happen every time seems (at the moment) quite random/intermittent
The battery was at 79% the first time it happened and a few days ago it was at 55% and it happened. Auto flash was on but flash not activated at the time the phone shut down.
The first time I thought I just hadn't realised the battery was that low but when I plugged it in to charge it said 79% on screen.
A few days ago when it was 55% I was able to put the phone back on after it shut itself down and it was fine/behaved normally since putting it back on - the battery appeared to drain at the usual rate. I even took a few other photos after switching it back on & it didnt shut down. I had been using camera the same morning when the battery % would have been higher & it didn't shutdown then. (& i actually took quite a few photos during that time).
Hope someone out there has an idea of how to fix this issue, though i'm thinking its maybe the a sign the battery may be failing?
I also have this issue, I think it may be a sign the battery is beginning to fail, or possibly the cpu gets too hot. (again first started happening around a year into ownership)
Under 70% battery if i take a bunch of photos it can shut down but would normally turn back on again with 20% less battery. if battery gets less than 50% then if it powers off, it may power back on breifly and then go back to the exclamation mark for empty battery and shut down.
I have tried following the guide to calibrate the battery (let it charge to 100%, turn off, plug back into charger) but it made no difference.
What did help a bit though was ensuring cloud photo apps (google photos/onedrive etc) were set to only upload photos while on wifi and charging.
Hi, I have the same issue with my EVA-L09 with EMUI 4.1.1 build EVA-L09C900B182 bought in october 2016. Shuts down after shooting few photos/videos and can't start it again without plugging it. Once plugged, the battery level seems to be the same as before the shutdown. Seems to happen with any battery level.
If anybody can help solve this, that would be great. I can't decide to change the battery for the moment without certainty that it would fix this issue.

Any resolution?
I am having the same problem with my L09 and the P9 camera app. Was on Nougat so rolled back to MM in attempt to fix. Also tried a faster SD. No luck with either.
No such issues with other camera apps from Play Store, but they don't use both sensors.
Anybody resolved this problem definitely yet? If yes, how?
Thanks.

I have the same problem since the last 6-9 months.
However I noticed that the problem occurs when I make photos when I'm outside and the weather is windy/damp. I never had the problem when shooting photos inside, always outdoors.
The solution is indeed connecting the phone with a charger (or portable battery) or wait for a couple of hours.
It could be a problem with the battery but it is strange that the phone is ok again after charging a couple of minutes. If it was moisture this idid not yet vanish in just a couple of minutes. Maybe a sensor which is not working ok (or the firmware is not resetting/reading it correctly) ?
I'm thinking of sending my phone into repair for this problem, however I think this is a difficult to identify problem because it does happen randomly (as it seems).
I'm having the same problem, after battery goes under 50% It drains fast, bellow this it only takes 30min of use to shoot down, taking a few photos just makes it drain even faster. And when plugged to the charger it suddenly gets up to 40% . I tried everything software wise with no luck. I bought a new OEM battery planning to change it this week, then I'll post the results.
I am facing the same problem L09C432B395. I observed its somehow being related to cold temperatures outside in my case - it happens only when walking outdoor and the phone is in my hand for a while - so its probably cools down. And than when pressing the camera button I see the message "waiting to sharpen the photo" and then beeeep! battery down to 1% and phone shutdowns. Regardles the battery level.. happening accidentaly and randomly, but only once a week.. and only when taking phone outdoor in a winter time. I did factory reset, re-installed the latest ROM etc but the problem persists. Might be some conflict between battery state and temperature read error?

Update: I change the battery, everything back to normal. I used a OEM battery, screen time is +6h with moderate use during the first row cycles of battery use from 100% to 10%.
Hi all together. Faced the same issue up times (Huawei P9 EVA-L09C432B395, Kamera App 4.1.1) with battery in good state 46 to 76% and taking a picture caused draining it to zero at a moment. Sitting down immediately. BUT only if flash ? is set to bulb-light ?! Tested it several times. Normal (auto/always active) flash is ok - but not bulb-mode...
So, that's obviously the reason - but where's a solution? ?
Some Huawei officials here at xda? ?
Same problem here and without solution yet ... camera causes phone to shutdown and battery indication goes crazy.

Experiencing the same issue on both P9 we have and getting very annoying would be glad to see if is there any solution of this.

These are my exact symptoms - combination of cold and camera gives false battery reading and shuts down phone entirely. Software update hasn't fixed.

I'm having the same problem. It's amazing how there's no information at all from Huawei about this issue... it's frustrating. I was planning on buying a P20 during this year and give my P9 to my wife, but if she can't use the camera it's useless. And I will not buy another Huawei if they don't do anything regarding a problem like this one...
Did any of you had any positive experience with Huawei Customer Care?
Thank you!

Even when connected to charger!!
Even when the phone is connected by USB to my computer and charging, if I open the camera the battery % starts to drop like 1% every 4-5 seconds!!
So the battery is being drained faster than what it charges.
I close the camera and it starts charging again.
Huawei, I was very happy with this phone, now I'm constantly in fear of getting out of battery in the middle of an unknown city while taking photos!

Poor Note 8 Exynos Battery Life?

Hi guys, has anyone else been experiencing poor battery life in the stock note 8 oreo rom? I've factory reset, switched off AOD etc. Same apps installed as when it was on nougat.
Thanks
Mine is doing the same. I reckon it will take a week or two to level out

i agree mine used to do that on nougat
I also have terrible battery life.
I've switched AOD off, as well as the weird Gallery settings (like Image Analysis etc), but it's still losing 30% battery while sitting idly for 3 hours.
I hope it does level out soon enough.

Maybe some of those apps aren't as optimized for Oreo yet. In any case, let it settle for a while after a major update like Oreo. I got over 5 SOT with my regular usage (27 hours runtime) on my first full charge after updating. Not bad, but it will improve a bit from there on my next 1-2 charges and hit 6 hours SOT like before.
I recommend you install betterbatterystats, give it permissions through adb, and let it run. Post some screenshots from the summary, kernel wakelocks, and partial wakelocks tabs. It'd make it easier to pin down the issues.
Okay guys, so it is the third/fourth day now and battery life has gotten better. This morning I did wake up to a bixby update, so maybe that was the issue? Anyways hopefully the battery life stays like this ongoing.
As soon as OEM unlock comes up I'm flashing a custom ROM ;P

Android 10 One UI 2 Battery and Performance

for those who got the final update, or had the beta, how is the battery life and general performance compared with PIE ?
Mine is snappier and battery life is better.

The battery life is slightly increased and rest every thing is okay.
Was a beta user. Exynos variant. Im sure the battery life and performance of Snapdragon variants would go more better. Exynos always sucks.
I think battery is better, lets see the rest
Mine is about the same. In the beta forums it seems to be all over the place though, some are happy, some not so much.
Any changes in the camera quality ?
My Exynos S10 used to reach 30-40+ hours of battery time on P (mostly web whatsapp and regular phone calls, no games at all, see pic).
After upgrading to stable Q, juice can't even give me 30 hours. As I see it, in my case Q is clearly the culprit.
SOT is not a valid metric for me, as I'm always on web whatsapp -- lots of use, no screen on.
Stable version of Q. Better battery for me
2 hours of screen
It takes me 2 hours of screen. plz heeelp

For starters, try and disable the following settings, case they are on:
. location
. bluetooth
. AOD
. NFC
. WiFi (case mobile data is suitable for you)
<Display>:
. set screen brightness to something around 50% (middle of the bar).
. set <Screen timeout> to , say, 30 seconds.
. set <Screen saver> to "none"
<Device care> / <Battery>:
. set <Power Mode> to "optimized"
. set <Adaptive power saving> to "on".
As for apps, Facebook is known to be a huge juice drainer.
Let me know how this works for you,
Cheers

Disabling everything isn't the solution.... Something must have gone wrong during the update process. I have everything on and I have a great battery life. Maybe trying a factory reset for example (even if it's annoying)
battery is marginally better on mine, after the update i entered the stock recovery and wiped cache, i dont know if that does anything. One UI 2 is very underwhelming, not many changes

Disabling everything is for quick diagnosing purposes, for identifying shady component(s), not meant to be a solution. Think of a box that won't start. You start by ruling out PSU, then memory modules, video card, and so on. Sure, in the OP case update issues must be considered, as well as third party software.
Cheers
My phone feels great after the update. Fast and smooth, the battery is the same, gets me through the day with Wi-Fi,BT and mobile data on all the time.
Love the new animations but the gesture navigation needs improvement, especially when switching between apps. Overall great update.
Thanks you Samsung!
ram usage increased too...
I agreed. I'm on the stable version of android 10. I have a Galaxy S10 G973U and It is on T-Mobile. Battery Life has steadily gotten worse for me starting from the October security update and it is much worse on One ui 2.0. Overnight, I lost 15 PERCENT CHARGE. I don't know what to do. I'm not sure if its a problem with my device or a widespread issue and just a problem with the software. Pls help. I called samsung to report this 3 times and they referred me to a repair shop. I don't want to go to the shop unless I am hundred percent sure that this is an issue only with my phone. g973u1 users are reporting excellent battery life and some g973u users are reporting bad battery life. Pls help.
In only 2h of screen time, I've lost 40% of my battery and I was a 100%.
Few web browsing and some texts and Spotify playlist in the background.
Is there anyway to optimize the battery life on One ui 2.0?
Gotta love these "how's the battery life?" threads.
Mine is better.
Mine is worse.
Mine is about the same
Camera quality decreased
Phone runs hotter
Uses more ram
It ruined my marriage
The phone got bigger for some reason
And so forth...
For me its about the same
Hi. as I get the view of the battery life as it was in android 9¡? While still not understand view of the battery life in android 10
