It's okay, but cant do a close up / macro picture

On daylight it is better than S7 but on low light you can just use 8 mp to take good pictures and it is not as great as s7

the picture quality is good, but the post processing is horrible.
i dont know why my old samsung s6 with Exmor R camera (Made by sony) can create more sharper and detail pictures (you can see it while zooming the photo, not when capturing), while my z5 creates more unnatural sharp image (Oversharpen) and horrible when zooming it (zoom the photo, not zoom when capture).

Daylight images are good with fine and realistic details even on 100 % crop
Minor issue are edges cause not that clean and sharp.
Daylight picture quality is one of the best today, for me better than S7 even.

Actually the S6 and S7 oversharpen more than the Z5. At 20MP the Z5 doesn't have too much sharpening or noise reduction which makes the flaws in the lens more apparent. Some other smartphone cameras try to compensate for it by using an unsharp mask and then smearing it with noise reduction. The only time the Z5 is oversharpened is in 8MP mode and 1080p video mode, but not as much as other phones.

I think its horrible. Samsung phones have waaay nicer colors and the Z5 camera takes very dark pictures.

as xperia big fan
i think Z2 is the best xperia camera
used s, arc s, p,v,z, z1, z2, z3, z5 and xperia x
today i took 2 photos
1 with Z5 and 1 with oneplus 3 inside the home with lights on.
Z5 camera reflected to much light off the wall .
actors in TV were not seen at all by Z5

i agree

Can someone post some pictures including lowlight pics taken with xperia z5 with nougat 7.1.1? I want to know if the camera produces better picture in 7.1.1 compared to 5.1.1.
Thank you in advance

For me it seems the pictures look the same. Did not compare in detail and don't have examples at hand though.
I'm really happy that I gave it away, don't want it back.

I honestly expected a lot more. Sony makes cameras for other devices while putting their average on their own.

Just remove your lens to change everything.
Sony's lens camera for mobile is terrible.

Camera

I had a HTC One S earlier.
The One S 8mp camera was better than the Z 13mp.wtf
But the sonys camera is way quicker.
I would be happy that this is a software bug and not hardware problem
Are you happy with your Z's camera?

My camera is excellent in good light outdoors but pies poor in low light shots my Xperia t blows it away, could be fault on my handset? My Xperia 10 takes on par photos in low light, very disappointed with the camera wish I just kept the Xperia t
http://esupport.sony.com/docs/dvimag/DSCWX10_guide/eng/contents/03/04/03/03.html
This explanation is from the manual:
In [Superior Auto] mode, the camera shoots burst images based on the recognized scene, then creates a composite of the burst images (Overlay shooting).
The camera automatically corrects the backlight and reduces the noise by overlaying images, so a higher-quality image results than in [Intelligent Auto] mode.
So what's the best settings to be on superior auto? What about focusing is the square supposed to go green mines blue all my other Sony's are green, can you post the best settings for everyday use please
thanks

the camera on my htc one x is much better and quicker than the experia z, also disappointed, tried many settings on the z but i just wanna take a pic quick when my little girl does something funny, not **** about with every setting on the phone taking 20 pics to get 1 good one, so far, pretty annoying and poor
The camera is poor in any low light situation been trying the camera out all day the camera is very disappointing indoors, prob gonna sell mine. Had high hopes for this phone its worse than the Xperia t camera I own

Strange, all of the picture samples and youtube tests show that it has great low light camera performance. Why do you think it's bad? I currently have an xperia x10, i can not believe the low light picture quality is the same. Even my sister's xperia u has much better low light performance than my x10.

It's normal that the pictures come out more blurry in low light. Maybe you should try turning off image stabilization, that helped a lot on my x10. I've seen low light pictures of the xperia z vs the iphone 5 where the colours of the z were more vibrant. So maybe your settings are wrong, the lens is dirty or you had unrealistic expectations?

It's ok. Lots of details
I'm not a photographer by any means. So long as I can capture the moment, it's good enough.
I docked a star because the lack of OIS. It is noticeable under many circumstances, and it's sorely missed.
Otherwise, this camera is pretty darn great!
Coming from Oneplus One previously, this camera is 100x better IMO. No issues whatsoever.
Also comming from a OPO. The camera in NX5 is one of the best... I love to be able to take shots in low light without flash. HDR+ and 1.55 u size make great job.
Nexus 5X+ Nova+Root
Great cam, have to say I dont miss the OIS at all, its useless for 99% of my photography use cases. Video is a different thing, but here you can enable EIS in the build.prop and it does a decent job too.
I'm using the stock google camera on HDR+ mode for absolutely everything. Image quality even in low light is pleasantly surprising! I think I can get 85% of the image quality from my (well-aged) Pentax K-5 (built-in in-body stabilization) on the 35mm f/2.8 prime. Of course, HDR+ combines many shots in order to maintain colour saturation and reduce the appearance of noise, whereas on my Pentax I just shoot RAW and tweak one shot, so it's not a perfect comparison. But, the Nexus 5X is good enough for social media and one helluva lot lighter and easier to carry than the dSLR!
Also, I used to use a LG G4, and I prefer the look of google camera HDR+ compared to the LG camera HDR mode. Dynamic range and colour accuracy are all better on the Nexus 5X in my eyes.

You nailed it - as they say: "The best camera is the one that's with you."
Also interesting comparison regarding the G4, thank you!
its cool
Coming from a Z3 Compact, this camera is leagues better, there is legitimately no comparison. That being said, the pictures are quite stunning, possibly in some circumstances rivalling my RX100. I am no photographer but I am very happy with the camera in this phone.

Very very good ... Better then Moto x pure which has a 21mp camera.
Not to mention the camera mods available that make this camera close to 6p cam

I like the photos created with this device. It's okay for general using, posting some photos to the instagram or something else.
It would be nice if you guys put some photo examples here.
I jumped to the N5x from a Samsung ATIV S.
Damn I miss the two phase shutter button, but quality wise the N5x wins, not that the ATIV S was bad, just looking a little dated these days...

Zoom lenses - experiences, tips,...

Do you have the zoom lens for your OP3?
I used to have this for my old Sony Z2 and it was great. It was extremely blurry for the most part but the middle was sharp enough to take photos of moon, birds, etc.
If you are using something like this, can you write.your experience and post some sample photos? The reason I am asking is the fact that OP3 has the camera bump and I am not so sure about the fit.
Here are few of my photos from Z2:

I'm very satisfied with the camera on the p10 phone.
Hi guyz! I just got my P10...all I say about camera- it's a beast. Daylight photos are excelent. For me the "vivid" colour mod makes it 10/10. I've been playing with the camera for all day and I came up with 2 questions:
1)Which resolution do you guys prefer- 12 or 20 mp ??(Since it has only 12 mp colour sensor- does upscaling work good 4 you?)
2)Why software doesnt allow to zoom-in while @20mp at all?
Here's an example for [standart] vs [vivid]- http://imgur.com/a/fg8e6

Yes, this problem is mine as well
There is an issue with Verical Panorama. Although Horizontal Panorama works perfect, in Vertical as you go up, it gets constantly out of focus. It's hasnt been fixed since B113 and we are now in B162...I have sent the problem to Huawei in all socia media. Try it for yourself
have the phone about a week and thepicture quality is perfect!
Camera does an excellent job on automatic. Love it
P10 has got a magical night mode capture algorithms. Check attached photos below (first 2 taken with moon light only).

Yes! I gave that a try and I was impressed. If you have a small tripod it works even better.
Overall, very happy with the quality, but please Huawei, give us an option to save RAWs to external storage...
Here some photos from my P10
Cheers!
Vertical panorama is bad.
Bad light bad joins obvious.
Rom version 181.
My samsung s6 camera vertical panorama was perfect
Panorma quality is very poor compared to my old Samsung S6.
The photos are not joined properly.

There's already a RAW option.
Has the photo quality change or improve with the Oreo update?
On my P10 camera app version went from 4.x to 8.x with Oreo Update.
Regarding quality, i didn't see much improvement however i would say that one big flaw (for me) of the P10: artificially over-brightening night photos has been somehow improved (still has this ****ty habit but less)
Test
Some new pictures I made. The bright ones were made in Auto-Mode, the Runway at Night is made in Manual mode with ISO50 and 30s exposure.
I uploaded them to imgur for quality.

Hello Team
Can anybody share few photos of example documents? [newspaper, school-book, book, etc]. Taken indoor [so it means under "mean" light conditions].
For me it is interested how this phone handle such photos.
One thing Ive noticed when I was taking photos of documents/book pages was that it blurs on the periphery. It's clear on the center, but becomes *very subtly* blurry on the outward edges as if you've moved your hand for a split second. I shoot in a well lit room with light (bulb and natural light, and I shoot from the above (natch) so Im not sure why the focus is not uniform and. has blurring on the edges. Also using gcam btw: Twichaya2.

I noticed the same thing in the photo comparison tool from gsmarena.com: https://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=5&idPhone1=10220&idPhone2=10097&idPhone3=9816
I wonder how pronounced the effect is in real world usage, keeping in mind that for some photos of humans, the face is at the edge of the frame.
this is why I asked for real examples. I have seen the same "issue" with many other cameras.
