ZTE Axon (non Pro) Marshmallow update - ZTE Axon Pro

I just purchased this phone. Seems like a great device. Too bad there is no root on it.
I chatted with customer support from ZTE asking when they are planning to release Marshmallow for the Axon.
They advised that Mid April is the time frame when they are planning to release that update.

How nice of them to tell us. I tweeted them and put something on Facebook and nothing. Next time I'll call. But at least we know.

Sweet! I just got my Axon. I got it for $160 on eBay brand new. Pretty good phone for the price I got ir for. Newegg was trying to get rid of them because the new line of Axon phones will be released soon.
Anyways, Soon after I read this post I called ZTE myself and the lady didn't want to say when they were planning on releasing it but she did tell me that they are still developing it. So at least we know we're getting the update.

Looking at all the bugs Marshmallow update has on the Pro, I wouldn't be so quick to update when it comes out on the non Pro version...

Mine is Axon with 2GB of r am, same version with you guys?
Model number is A1R
This phone is pretty good tho, except for blue color for the metal back, also 2GB of ram is not enough. I am always out of ram and app reload everytime i change.
The design make me feel like they got 2 front speakers but ... only 1 lol.
Anyway, for the price, im ok with it. Hopefully it got 6.0 soon

Well they released some type of update for the Axon.

Less than 50 Mb. Not update for Marshmallow. And I found this Axon is lagging. Trying to find a clean customized ROM but no luck.

After B21 update wifi in zte axon work very slow. Reboot, turn off then on help for a while. Speed drop to 0.6 down and 0.5 up. Is some one else have same problem?

Just got this phone today. I thought I was getting the pro. Lol can really notice the RAM at 2g being a little bit laggy. But otherwise it's not bad. If you enable developer options and set all of your animation settings to .5 it speeds it up considerably. Tried King root. Nothing yet but the requests are coming in for it. Id say we will get root soon. I worry about the inability to battery pull tho. It's always nice when rooting and modding lol

Ordered an Axon non-Pro for my younger brother a week back, has there been any update on the Marshmallow update for it? I saw earlier this this thread that ZTE told someone it was a mid April target, but thats come and gone. My brothers new Axon has definitely not received an MM update yet. He did pull down 2(3?) smaller OTAs after I got him connected to his wifi.
Since I'm considering an Axon 7 for myself, I've started paying attention to their update release reputation. I don't care so much about custom roms any more, or root really, but I do want to know that I'm going to get at least 1 timely OS update.

Doesn't seem to be any news on MM for the older Axon.

Is there a Custom ROM or a how-to-ROOT for Axon with 801 cpu phone ?
Is there a Custom ROM or a how-to-ROOT for Axon with 801 cpu phone ?

Some ZTE-Axon (non-Pro, "A1R" with S801 Cpu) phones receive Android 6.0.1 OTA update
We have 2 Axon phones ([A1R] 5.5" ). One of them received the OTA Marshmallow 6.0.1 update automatically from Fido-Canada, everything went fine, great, no-problem.
The second "A1R" Axon is stuck with Android 5.1.1 ; and the OTA(6.0) is not coming through at all.
What can be done to force the Marshmallow update on that phone ?

I have the same problem. Their upgrade schedule says the update is out but I am not receiving the update either. I will probably try contacting fido to see what the problem is.

Hi folks,
I too have been eagerly waiting for this upgrade and have read in a many forums that it was coming, with excerpts from dialogues with customer reps at various companies.
Today I spoke with a CSR at my carrier, who gave me ZTE's number to call. They then told me to use the support chat, who gave me some info saying that it has not yet been abandoned, and she would escalate my concern to the R&D team, but also suggested I post this request in here.
Caroline K: Thank you for the information. There has been talk of the Axon A1R device software update to the Android 6.0 software.
We have been getting a lot of requests from customers for the Android 6.0 software on the Axon A1R device.
From our conversation:
Caroline K: I do apologize, we do not have any estimated time frame as to when the Axon device will get the Android 6.0 software.
ME: Thanks. The alternative to upgrading the software would be to allow root access on the devices so we can install our own custom operating systems, but I have also read that ZTE is mute on those requests
Caroline K: I do understand your concerns as an end user myself. Most new applications require new software.
Yes, I do agree with you when it comes to unlocking the bootloader. ZTE does not have the option.
Me: Thanks for your understanding. As you have suggested you would escalate the issue, shall I expect a future response from the R&D team?
Caroline K: I will forward the unlock boot loader to our R&D team as well. The Axon 7 device was the only device that came close to the boot loader unlock.
So R&D team, please please please if you're reading this (as I have been told that you do: Caroline: Our forum support is run by part of the software team), please push out an update for Android Marshmallow 6.0, or unlock the boot loader to we can do our own custom ROMs.
Thanks

I don't think so. I think we will see sense 6.0 in summer 2014. far updates go i am sure we see things minor updates too keep htc one up too par. i am sure when CES comes and they show off 2014 HTC One . I am sure we will get a better idea about how much more HTC is working one for devices.
P.S. I am hoping I will be soak tester for the new update.

Really the M8 before the turbo?

My fiances m8 got lollipop before the turbo. The reason I got this phone was this phone was supposed to get lollipop and the battery. I am so disappointed I will never get another Motorola phone.

Perfectly content to wait for bug free 5.1
Depends on what is important to you in a phone. I am always amazed to see people itching for the next update, etc, but honestly, if you always want the latest "greatest" (Personally, I cannot stand all the white in Lollipop), perhaps you will be disappointed in the Turbo. Perhaps once Vzw "approves" (like they have any power in that equation really) the update, it will be flawless, but i wouldnt hold my breath. As far as HTC goes, I can say I have never used an HTC phone with the same signal quality as its Moto counterpart. (Moto knows antennae/signal like no other) Also, If you read up on the Moto Maxx Lollipop update, it isn't too great. @adrenalyne can attest to that. Honestly, the real reason to be upset with a Turbo is the lack of bootloader unlock, as that would motivate Cyanogenmod to create a base that would translate to buttloads of Lollipop roms with the capability to return to stock KK Moto, am option you will not have once it updates as the keys do not allow reverting. Then, you would have the capability to experience it, realize it is not all its cracked up to be yet, and go happily back to where you are now. I know I went back to OSE KK happily from the best motox/droid ultra/maxx lollipop roms. the x8 architechture makes these newer moto phones amazing,(notice how Active Display does not kill your battery) but also has been the reason Lollipop has taken this long for those (msm8960dt) phones. Its hard to be patient, but I assure you, you aren't missing too much. and once you get lollipop, you will be stuck with it, for better or for worse.

You act like this is even 1% motos fault and not Verizon (the biggest sticklers known to man.). If I remember right moto said awhile ago that the update had been delivered to VZW for inspection, but Verizon is so terrified that somebody might (gasp) root their phone that they hang onto it until they are pretty positive that there is no simple root method available

You got all that about me from word eh?
I am impressed!
Verizon is not necessarily to blame. They have approved update for the HTC and Samsung phones. I don't know why we haven't received the update. It seems people that have it aren't all that impressed and some are unhappy. Droid-Life days lollipop is a buggy mess. But I don't think we can blindly blame Verizon since they have approved it for other phones. That said... Don't buy a phone anticipating an update.

The source code for Lollipop has been out over 4 months now. It's absolutely ridiculous that this phone does not have Lollipop yet. It has a near stock android version and a widely used chipset. Samsung, HTC, and LG have ALL updated their skinned versions of android already. I don't care who's fault it is - Verizon or Moto - all that matters is that somebody screwed up with this delay. If we had an unlocked bootloader, we would already have Lollipop thanks to unpaid devs. My old phone and tablet are both running Lollipop thanks to these devs I speak of. This is the last time I buy a phone with a fully locked down bootloader and no hope of root. I just couldn't resist that battery!

The "it's still buggy" argument seems to be the general response when people like me are getting impatient. And while that does hold some truth, I think 5.0.2 has fixed most of the major issues. I'm running CM12 based on 5.0.2 on my Galaxy S4 and my Asus Tablet, and they both are running well now. There were some issues when the nightlies first came out, but 5.0.2 seems to be pretty stable now depending on what hardware you have.

Maybe good news? 5.1 for turbo? Maybe we get when nexus 6 is for sale at vzw?
I realize it could be untrue since it didn't come directly from moto or Verizon but interesting nonetheless.

Or you can believe an advertised feature of the device being "Upgradeable to Lollipop" as listed in the original press release for the Droid Turbo. (link) Moral of the story for me is not to trust OEMs when they make upgrade promises. Sure they didn't give a specific timeframe when they promised Lollipop for the Turbo, but 4+ months after official release of source code is a joke.

Bad T-Mobile!

T-Mobile just keeps dropping the ball with the LG-G4.
After continually blaming LG for "The lack of a Marshmallow (6.0) update" and with LG saying it's in T-Mobiles hands. LG has rolled out a 2nd 6.0 update to Poland.

Most rumors i hear say that 6.0 is causing them to have to revamp wifi calling to work with the new system...from what i know of it wifi calling is what typically causes slow updates from tmo...also they are not blaming lg...they have had the update from lg the same amount of time everyone else has but are taking a long time to integrate their changes...it has been showing that it's in testing for months now on their site

I believe LG's research center is in Poland. That seems to make sense to research nearby areas than further away places in case things go bad. Easier to put out fires next to you than a mile away with the water bucket.
Just be happy tmobile doesn't roll out updates like sprint does. I'm a service and repair technician for sprint. I've seen so many G4's hardware fail when updating to M. Be appreciative to the fact that tmobile wants to make sure their update is a stable improvement and not a buggy disaster. Because sprint has a lot of that going on. Lol

I'm quite patient. Just saying many of us don't use WiFi calling. It wouldnt be much trouble to release without it then patch in later.
Google Voice as SMS > ANY Wi-Fi calling.

So...you are complaining that a US carrier has not updated their firmware to what somewhere in Europe has in spite of it being a well known fact that US carrier branded phones usually take months longer to update than the unbranded phones in other parts of the world? This is something that is well known since the beginning of Android. The process goes: The pure google code is released, the manufacturer adapts it to their devices, it gets released to unbranded phones, it is also sent to branded carriers to add all of their crap to it, then it is sent back and forth between the manufacturer and carrier until it works flawlessly including updating and converting all data, including carrier bloat in an OTA package. This is then tested on a predetermined batch of test phones. Then when the carrier is happy with the OTA, then they decide when is the best time to release it and request time on Google servers to do so. It is also kind of selfish to say "Just give me the version without wifi calling since I don't use it anyway" without thinking of the million tech calls and posts they get about wifi calling not working. Also do not believe anyone you talk to in any customer service of LG or T-Mobile...they do not know what is going on and are told what to say. I could tell you some stories of some of the stupid answers I have seen from customer service reps. It actually looks like AT&T and Verizon are in the same boat as you guys...no MM yet.
If you or anyone are the type of person that needs the latest software that Google spits out and like being a beta tester for them, then why have you not purchased one of the Nexus devices with immediate updates and no carrier branding or bloat? They work great on T-Mobile and band 12. I went Nexus 6P in Sprint myself and will never go back to a branded phone.

Lol

The hardware failure has nothing to do with software updating. LG has released a statement recognizing that there is a problem with manufacturing; they blame a loose component connection.
As for the T-Mobile testing status: it has not changed from "Manufacturer Development" yet. T-Mobile is not officially conducting tests on the update yet.

Yes, I'm sorry. I really didn't complete or finish my rant. I do understand how the update, testing and all works with T-Mobile. Being an employee, I know the stance T-Mobile is taking... "Not our fault!" T-Mobile is tell us that the update is not available from LG but we all know it is. Everything is ready but they simply won't start the process. So went I said "T-Slow-mobile!" it was coming from knowing and frustration.

Ah, yes. I see now. So someone has let you know that the full OTA package has been fully tested and just waiting for them to say "go?" That could be a bit frustrating. I hate to say it but they may be waiting until the G5 release at the end of February. I hope that is not it and they just want to gear up their tech support for any issues that might arise.
I laugh every time I read one of these posts where people complain about not getting carrier updates quick enough to suit them. It's usually the same people that will complain about too many bugs on quickly released software.
You want immediate updates? Buy a nexus.
You want quick updates? Buy global, not carrier models.
You want a carrier model? Quit complaining about how long it takes them to release software updates.
Carriers always have been considerably behind the global "unlocked" models on software updates. It will always be that way, and for good reason.

Absolutely. It's kinda pointless
It's your fault.
Want regular security updates? Buy a Nexus.
Want recent bug fixes? Buy a Nexus.
Want clear communication from LG or T-Mobile? Buy a Nexus.
Don't like the Nexus design? Buy a Nexus.
Remember folks, you need to make sure that you live within the constraints set by T-Mobile and LG for the G4. It's your fault for wanting things like regular updates or clear communication.
After all, you're paying them.

WiFi calling doesn't work very well for me. I am in a bad cell phone zone area also.
However, I always use WiFi at home to save data.
In the big picture, what is more important, Android 6.0 ir WiFi calling ?
I had Lollipop 5.1.1 on my LG G3 and it worked great.
Most people don't remember the fact that 5.1.1 has a search function while in Settings.
I found that extremely helpful for me. And it had the PIE submenu.
I think LG shortchanged everybody by not rolling out 5.1.1 on the G4.
When you consider that the manufacturers don't usually support a particular model for more than 2 years,
it totally sucks that they haven't upgraded the G4 for over 6 months!

Security/Firmware updates

This is one thing holding me back from Huawei phones. From my previous experience, Huawei don't offer a reliable schedule of security updates. You get a couple and they seem to move onto thier next release and forget everything else.
Are they still like this? How have you got on with previous Huawei phones?
I'm on the fence regarding this also - my previous experience was that UK devices had poor update support - while EU devices were far better - waiting to see this time (not fussed about missing out on any Watch/Charger promotion).

very wise. also, if you give it a couple of months to see how it gets on the price will fall too. Might be worth buying from amazon.de before March 29th to retain EU warranty. Should get better updates from the EU phone. I've been told by a contact at Huawei, that the Three network are causing the delays in the UK. Even if your are on a different network!
Has a quick look to see how the Mate 10 pro is getting on with updates. Sadly its not good. Looks like most M10P users have been put off with the M20P for this reason. Why can't Huawei on this?

I didn't get many on my last Huawei phone despite Firmware Finder. My Pixel gets them every month on the same network. That is why people are whining.
Change carriers. They obviously favor Google phones. I'm even bit unsatisfied by too many updates for Mate 10 pro cuz I like to factory reset phone after each.
Taking a look at FF they pushed out 16 updates for EU region in last 12 months. Champions of updates I'd say

Trouble is from my experience EU had great update support, UK had poor support often 2 or 3 software updates behind (although I think security updates were a bit more regular). If I get a Mate 20 I’d be tempted to get a dual sim EU model over the single sim UK one.

This is why i use a pixel. Huawei in the UK seem to lag behind. Rumours are the 3 network is holding up precedings. This will affect you even if you're on a different network.
Several several years ago, I swore never to buy a Huawei phone again because of the horrendous lack of updates. Back then it was the enormous jump from KK to lollipop. Nexus devices back then we're about to jump to marshmallow before Huawei updated their phone to lollipop. This was on the Ascend Mate 7.
I am tempted to get the Mate 20 Pro, but am afraid of the lack of support. I'm debating on the Huawei phone vs the 6T at this point. Choices.. I enjoy wide angle lenses but also enjoy smooth stock android. If only the 6T had a wide angle lens, it wouldn't even be a debate for me.

Same as me, I swore i'd never buy Huawei again because of their poor support. Its a lot of money to drop on a phone that will get dropped. Does anyone know how Android treble is working out for Huawei? Will this alleviate any fears?
I was complaining to my wife that my lg g7 only got one update since I got it. She, on the other hand, was annoyed because of how many updates she got since she had the p20 pro. Although, her phone was not bought from a carrier.
Or maybe Huawei has a new approach to updates? Considering the fact that they've stated numerous times that they want to become the #1 phone manufacturer, or beat samsung (something like that). And consistent updates would take a lot from samsung's market, knowing how inconsistent they are.
Also, huawei is one of the first to come with pie updates, which gives me confidence in them. "Don't forget about oneplus". Yeah, oneplus only has to worry about softwear, given the fact that their hardwear is borrowed from whatstheirface.
Mate 10 updates have been solid for me here in NZ, no issues with frequency of security updates.
There is one phone for UK/ EU this time. Put a sim inside, and it will OTA add your networks specific network settings/apps/maybe a splash screen. Factory reset, and everything is removed, including splash screen.
I am hoping this new system also means faster updates in the UK as well.
Will the Pixel get updates quicker and potentially for longer. Probably yes. That's the choice you have to make.

Actually, it's even better than you describe. As far as security and OS updates are concerned, there's one phone for non-China and one phone for China. Previously we had software updates separated by branding (Asia/C636, Europe/C432, UK/C782, Middle East/C185) as well as by dual sim or single sim (L09/L29)
As things are with the new models, there is one firmware file for every non-Chinese Mate 20 Pro, and one firmware file for every Chinese Mate 20 Pro. Then there are separate files for branding-related changes which can be updated and packaged separately from the main firmware file.
The result is that one update file is valid for all of the non-Chinese phones, to update the features, security patch, etc.
This is a new thing with EMUI 9, and it will also apply to older phones updated to EMUI 9, like P20 series, Mate 10 series, so on.
My carrier Optus is unfortunately well known for failing to provide regular Huawei updates so hopefully I will eventually be able to debrand my Mate 20 Pro somehow.
If you're feeling unsure about security updates, this might make you feel better

ZTE Axon 10 Pro US bootloader unlock request

It looks like ZTE is back again with another flagship killer with an unbelievable price! With 8+256 for $549 and 12+256 for $599 this will be the device to beat the rest of 2019 and well into 2020. However, one thing will separate the Axon 10 Pro from the OnePlus 7/7T going forward and that is an official bootloader unlock from ZTE. The inclusion of microSD support has me wanting this phone more than any out currently. Hopefully the bootloader is unlockable out of box, but if not, please, ZTE, if you happen to read this, PLEASE include an official bootloader unlock, preferably one that doesn't affect widevine L1 so we can enjoy a flourishing development community as well as high quality video on this display.
XDA, let's show ZTE how great this device can be with your support in backing an official bootloader unlock for the Axon 10 Pro!
Join the discussion on Z-community and make your voices heard:
https://community.zteusa.com/discussion/54800/axon-10-pro-bootloader-unlock-request
Unlock Bootloader will be awesome, and having You as well as @Unjustified Dev as developers will rock this device even more like Axon 7 did.
If ZTE is watching, I just want to say thanks.
I remember receiving a PM from @DrakenFX 3 years ago about this new phone THE ZTE AXON 7! Doesn't that sound cool? It wasn't the first time we crossed paths or second here on XDA.
At the time, ZTE was known for stripping devices of fastboot mode. Regardless of my novice skills, I still took on the challenge.
Shortly after coming into the community and learning about this device and meeting some great people, I received another PM! A guy asked for my address to send me a device! Yes, that's correct, my first device was actually bought by one member of XDA.
The joy of that day can never be explained or replicated again. I received my device a bit later which was good because ZTE had just released the OTA file that allowed B20 to be unlocked and brought back fastboot which is stripped on all of their devices that I've ever worked with.
In less than a week we had CM-13.0 running, but there were so many things we couldn't figure out.
Before I knew it, ZTE reached out to me and a few other CyanogenInc developers. They helped us fix Audio, fingerprint, sensors, VR, Camera, and I'm betting even more. I am considering getting the Axon 10 Pro myself if I don't receive one from ZTE or anyone else
I think we're all asking for you to be the same ZTE that left us with the Axon 7 one of the most influential devices in your history.
Already prepared for this amazing device http://files.nwwn.com/~unjust/Axon 10 Pro/LineageOS/
I went from my axon 7 to onplus my daughter now has my axon 7 and she loves it
If bootloader unlock is there I am definitely jumping back to ZTE from OnePlus
Lineage 16.0
@Unjustified Dev What base firmware did you use to build Lineage 16.0?
Thanks

TWRP isn't ready due to decryption with a pin set. And lineage isn't ready either but you can install GSI. Only difference is GSI don't take full advantage of the Qualcomm enhancements like gps and ims but everything else *should* work

If I'm going to run this phone, I would love LineageOS as that's what I am on currently. Why Android has to be a pain to get everything migrated from an old phone to a new phone and hasn't been fixed is beyond frustrating too. I don't upgrade often due to the fact that phone hardware sucks or the boot-loader is encrypted. If that wasn't an issue that would be one less hassle but the fact that it's so much trouble to change from an old device to a new device while taking all your stuff with you and not losing or having stuff get missed in the transfer that's the biggest reason I keep my phones so long.
I'll need all the regular features like GPS so I can't really do without full support and I wouldn't want to run anything but LineageOS anyway because when LineageOS is ready I want to just get my stuff to it and not have to do the move of my data multiple times.
Thanks

The phone hasn't been out very long. It took a whole team to get most of the issues worked out the Axon 7. There's no way we could just get it working that fast. Keep in mind I don't own the device either. It's going to take time regardless due to so much changing with Android I'm behind on all the new stuff like encryption.
