Rear camera replacement with s6 sensor - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, so I somehow shattered the lens on the back of my phone and ordered a replacement online. However, I thought about just replacing the camera sensor as well because it has the focus issue where I have to masterbate my phone by shaking it before every picture. I would love to just replace the lens and send it in to samsung for repair since I'm still under the 1 year warranty, however, I'm not sure if they'd check my knox counter, which will show the phone has been adulterated.
I can't seem to find Samsung parts online for the note 4, I don't want some generic camera sensor. However, the GS6 uses the same imx240 sensor and original parts can be found online.
Do you think there will be an issue with the gs6 sensor in my note 4? Replacing parts on electronics isn't an issue for me, I am just more interested in compatibility.
Thanks for your time and any assistance!

As far was warrant hours,I have a galaxy tab s that was under warranty. I rooted it, but was completely stock. The thing just turned off one day. They replaced the motherboard and said the charging port was bad and replaced it as well. Then they said I had rooted it, do they wouldn't cover it. Even though it was hardware failure, they denied it because of root. I spoke with everyone I could at Samsung, but to no avail. And yes I was beyond nice to them. If it was a software issue, I would have paid the stupid fine and moved on. But a hardware failure in the first 6 months they should cover. So just a heads up on trying for a warranty if you've rooted it.

Search the note 4 forum. I'm sure someone tried this already and it didn't work.

Check if screen is original

Hi,
Last week I bought a new Sony Z3 compact, and I'm having some difficulties with the touchscreen. I'm experiencing some of the sensitivity / bouncing problems I saw in the forum earlier. It's making typing sometimes very difficult.
The build date of the phone (which came with no accessorizes like headphones or something, only a charger, something strange as well) is: week 35 of 2014. Rather old for a new device. I'm wondering if my device is completely new and it's not just a repaired phone with a repaired screen. Is it possible to check whether the screen is original?
The reason I went to the shop was that they're willing to buy my old iPhone which I got temporarily, because my Nexus 5 was broken. I hated the iPhone and they gave me a good deal for the Z3C. But I hope that I bought a new phone and not just a repaired one with a cheap display....
The headset itself doesn't have a single scratch, it looks completely shiney btw
It's possible that they gave you a refurbished device true, but if I'm correct those devices or any sold by any store 'must' be repaired with OEM parts, so it's highly unlikely that they used 'cheap' parts to repair it. You could check to see if the phone is still waterproof by doing the pressure test or putting the in water.
Even phones with OEM parts had the same problem that you described.
If you're not satisfied I'd suggest to go back to the store.
P. S. There is no way to check whether the screen is original or not.

Hi Dsteppa,
Thanks for your quick reply. The pressure test seems fine, so I'm guessing the phone is still water proof. Perhaps an update to Lollipop will fix it. Maybe I'll go to another shop first and compare the two screens before returning my device if Lollipop won't help.

My touch screen stopped responding. Will replacement help?

Hi all. I have a Z3 Compact. It's 2 years and it's running stock firmware, no root, no flash.
Currently, the whole screen is not responding to any touches. My question is, will replacing the whole screen fix this problem?
I am using another phone now, but thought it'd be good to have this fixed and keep as a spare.
Mine stopped responding to touch, and a replacement screen fixed that. Replacing the screen however means it won't be water-proof anymore for sure, so beware of that.
Hey, thanks.
Yeah, I have a Galaxy S7 for that waterproof thing. Besides, the flap covering the Micro USB port is broken. So I have been cautious about it anyway.
Thanks for confirming. I'll send it for repair.
Swapped out the display of my girlfriends z3 Compact and now she's able to swipe down the notification bar again. Repair process is difficult... I paid about 38,5€ for the screen with new glues.
Well, I tried going to a shop to get it repaired.
Apparently, there are different types of LCD panels? They have an incompatible one, so they're unable to repair mine.
Too bad for me. Anyway, I have my Galaxy S7 for my daily driver, and a OnePlus 3 for travelling. So I'm not in a hurry to get it repaired. And I get to save some money. That's always a good thing.

My Note 8 microphone died.

My Note 8 mic died today :crying: I can hear the callers but they can't hear anything from me. If I switch to speaker, they can hear me. I checked all settings and did factory reset, didn't solve the problem. I took it Samsung service center at Rama 9 Bangkok ( I live in Thailand). They tried "deep" re-flash (whatever that means), but didn't fix. Seems like my phone failed their diagnostics as well. They opened up the phone and confirmed it's a hardware failure. Fortunately, everybody who preordered Note 8 over here get 6-month brand new unit replacement and 1-year accidental screen damage warranty as part of promotion in addition to free AKG 230 blutooth speaker, some military grade cover, pencil style s-pen. So for this case, they processed mine to get brand new unit as replacement. I have to wait 7 to 14 days. I really hope my replacement phone will be problem free.
I'm just glad I haven't purchased whitestone and only bought some cheap screen protectors. I was also considering of rooting it. Now that this happened, I don't think I'm going to do it at least until my warranty runs out. I really don't want to lose my accidental screen damage warranty. I have a feeling that I'm will be using it.

Always sad to read this sort of post. As you know there will always and I mean, always be lemons. Try not to let this sour your Note 8 experience though. I do hope you get this situation resolved in a satisfactory and speedy fashion.
Let us know how you get on. :highfive:

The weirdest part is that the mic is the same either for regular call or speaker, the only thing that changes is the output audio source...seems more of a software issue than hardware, that for some reason is not opening the mic on regular calls...[emoji848]interesting...

Do you have a case on it? Take it off.
I ask because I first used a hard case and the mic didn't work always...the bottom port seemed partly covered, not much but obviously enough. Take the case off and all good. I now use a goospery soft case and it's fine.

While I don't know which microphone is used for what, I'm pretty sure Note 8 has 2 microphones: 1 on top and 1 on bottom, so maybe it is using top mic with speaker on, not the bottom one?

Update. I got my sealed brand new replacement couple days ago. My new phone is manufactured in Sep 29th. Everything is good. Mic is working. Screen is good, no light bleed at all. They even unboxed and did diagnostic of new phone with me, mainly checking the screen for any dead pixel or touch sensitivity issue, before I signed paperwork. I'm super happy with Samsung Thailand services, far far better than in the US.
Now let's see if I'll ever have to use 1-year free screen replacement. I nearly dropped it this morning.
That's a hell of a promotion. Wish we'd get that here in the States. The Galaxy 360 camera I made the mistake of choosing (instead of a sd card/fast charger) is a piece of doodoo.

My wife got the 360 camera during the S8 promo for a "mere" $50 extra. It's still sitting in the box and not being used. Waste of money for us it was.
Was actually thinking about using it. , Does it have any real uses ?

Mine is giving trouble too, but the entire circuit board there seems to have died on me after about a week, the LTE strength suddenly became terrible, and I found that if I applied pressure on one of the antenna connectors in a specific direction the strength would jump up to normal.
I'm waiting for replacement parts to be available, and I noticed that the USA version that ifixit has a teardown guide for has a newer revision of this board, made a week or so after mine. Must have had some of the early ones fail prematurely... The rest of my phone works flawlessly, fortunately.

Yes. Put it on Ebay and hope some poor schmuck pays you your $50 for it.
Op, that is the reason to buy only from authorized official dealers! The people who get their devices in grey markets most of the time have troubles with warranties
I have the same issue, blowing into the usb port seems to fix it temporarily. Hope this gets sorted out with a software update.

I think best to just go to samsung care, or some samsung repair shop. S10 came out fairly recently, so separate parts being offered aren't likely, and neither is the individual repair going to be easy.

+1. Its a new device and an expensive one. You should not experiment with it. Most people break their devices by doing self repair. Better go to samsung care.
Sent from my Samsung SM-G973F using XDA Labs
What they said. I've attempted repairs on phones/tablets and I've about a 50% success rate. IF and that's a big if, you actually find the lens, it very likely won't be an original part. Your possibly cheap self repair could end up costing half the price of a new phone.
I took your advice and contacted my local Samsung center which was around 35miles away from my home.
I visited yesterday morning and They repaired it for free of charge.
They said they had some offer on for the S10 range till the 4th April for repairs.
Took a hour and it was done.
They not only changed the lens but they changed the whole back and also the camera module (even tho the back and module wasn't affected)
So fantastic service never have I smashed a camera lens before I was shocked.
First time using Samsung care and they was brilliant.

Yellow Screen Galaxy Note 9

Hi, after the March update, I found my Galaxy Note 9 screen turned yellow..
I turned off the screen, unlocked the screen and the screen back to normal..but the yellow screen will reappear...
Some people say it's a hardware problem and replace their LCD, but some people assume that Samsung technicians don't want to get dizzy and just say "you have to replace the LCD"
There is someone who brought this to the Samsung center, the technician just looked without checking further and said "the LCD has been broken" and he fixed it via safe mode (IDK the detail)
And some people solve this problem with FW flash via Odin..
I'm curious, do custom ROM users experience yellow screen too? is this really a hardware problem?
Thanks, and sorry for bad English

have we made a petition?
Because it's not only Galaxy Note 9, but also Note 8, S7, S9..
Do all Samsung flagship problems with hardware?
But my friend's Galaxy Note FE and Note 8 with OneUI ver 1 is fine

Those affected should. Samsung is greedy to force for hardware replacement instead of fixing their software. Samsung hardwares are expensive. In my country screen replacement for note 9 is about half of the second hand value of this phone.
Have you tried wiping the Cache Partition in Recovery Mode?

Note 9 yellowish scree
hi I've faced the yellowish screen problem recently. My phone is 1 year and 7 months old. I visited samsung service center in my city in India. 1st they told me it was your fault that because of your mishandling this has happened and some brainless person told me to go for replacement which cost around 21000 rs(300$) in India. But then i asked them to find any dent, crack or even a scratch on body or glass if its mishandling. Then i showed them this article. https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-note-9-march-2020-security-update-broken-screen/
Manager head technician accepted the fact that this wasn't my fault any kept phone with him. After 20-25 days now i have my phone with screen replaced without giving a single penny. Samsung is such greedy company that pushes such faulty updates and loot consumers like they haven't looted us enough with such heavy priced phones.

Which city ?.
Because in Bangalore they kept for my phone for a week and returned it without doing anything.
Same issue not a single scratch, dent or bump. Mint phone. But Audio Dead.
They told me to my face and in writing that no Note 9 users have reported any problems after the update.
I told them to visit XDA and their own company community pages but they ignored me.
They demanded that the only way they would help is if I paid 26500 to replace the board. ANd even that would take weeks. Due to present situation.
Another guy in another city was quoted 18K for his Note 9 main board. So it seems they can charge what they want.
There is no fixed rate. They cant even match the rates on their own web site.
Lets just say you got very lucky or you have good contacts.

I am in Surat. I didn't have any contacts in Samsung service center. I went there and requested to look upon my problem. 1st the illiterate girl at the desk ignored me but when the manager/chief engineer came to know about the problem he peacefully heard me. I used my "Being A Doctor trump card" to further make him believe that i was no joking and lying. And ultimately I was lucky. Though i was very much prepared to go in consumer court if that failed.
They just returned my phone and told me to come back when I was willing to pay 26500 for a new board.
I have started a new Face Book Page Called Samsung India worst company.

did not work! can you give more information !?
Looks weird but its working for me, tap to switch on always on display then open the phone with fingerprint or other methods, screen becomes normal !!
So I opted to fix my own phone.
WHat I found was that the over heating had cause some microscopic balls of lead to have melted during the over heating and these were all over the main board. I suspect some got under the Amplifer 98512 IC. So I purchased the part form china for 2$. Purchased a microscope and fix it myself.
I also cleaned the main board in ultrasonic machine to make sure all the small balls were dislodged. Its been over a week and my phone is working fine.
I suspect if you try all the software options and nothing works. Open the back cover and look for these tiny balls. If you see them clean the board and put it back it may start working. If it has shorted something off course you will see the damage. May times just a clean and re-seating the flex cable solves the problem.
I wonder if Samsung return your old board if they charge you for a new one.
Hey, download this app PWMfree by going to this link https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78953726&postcount=48 this will resolve your problem. Once downloaded scroll down then allow access, that's it. I hope this help.
Hi , i also have a screen problem with my Galaxy Note 9 Edge but i don't know if it is the same as the above problems. The problem started when i turned on the "always display on" option and set the clock to orange. I don't know if this is a coincidence but as soon as i turned that option 2/3s of my screen turned to orange as seen on the attached picture. I tried reverting the options but with no luck. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Did i messed some some settings? I have the latest update installed.
Finally yellow screen fixed in 13 July 2021 update
From what I have heard if you use the gesture navigations instead of the on-screen button navigation method. You should not experience the green screen issue.

If it's an LCD display they don't just turn yellow.
Flash it back to the firmware it was running on.
Rule #1 if the phone is running fast and stable, leave it be.
