What is a Working Camera+Camcorder App for Marshmallow? - X Play Themes and Apps

Picked up a Moto X Play for family in Canada.
The Camera interface isn't the most intuitive, was hoping to use Google Camera but every app I seem to use seems to crash when switching from camera to camcorder mode, currently on the March security update for Marshmallow.
Does anyone else have this issue or can recommend a decent camera app as an alternative?

Try Open Camera or Manual Camera.

Yeah open camera is a nice one.The stock camera app is working normal on mine.Try to clean cache of the stock camera app.

Opencamera crashes.
Google Camera 2.7 is actually working, so the problem is with version 3.1 and later... Guess that's why they pulled it from the Play Store
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/camera/camera-2-7-008-release/
When switching from camera to video camcorder mode, it says 'Can't connect to camera' and crashes the app

Running version 5.1 and its working.Stock mm 6..0.1.
I should try a factory reset if i was you.

Sorry 5.1 of which application would you be referring to?
Google Camera only goes up to 3.2 and Open Camera 1.28.1

Sorry i was mistaken with motorola stock camera app. Maybe google camera is crashing because it cant find a gyroscope sensor which is needed for the 360 pictures.

Looking for a camera app as well; stock Motorola camera is too slow on launch in taking pictures or I itializing video. I've tried clearing data and cache. Google Camera works besides camcorder mode.

I used Open Camera. After installation, the first time I have it hung. Resetting and poked in the settings. In the "interface settings" disabled "show slope" and "show the direction of the compass." As long as such no longer hangs.

Camera Zoom FX App

I noticed a dramatic difference between the Google Camera and the 3rd party Camera Zoom FX application. The Google Camera brings in a good amount of light into the lens even in marginal situations. Camera Zoom FX is pulls in so much less light. There's no setting I can figure out. Could Lollypop restrict camera access in some funky way that is preventing the 3rd party app from taking full advantage of the lens?
i have noticed this in pretty much all 3rd party camera apps. people have reported that video conferencing in hangouts is also very dark
i have spent all day looking at different camera apps. i cant get "a better camera" to auto focus (but it has better in app lighting), camera zoom fx is much darker than "a better camera" but has good focus. the google camera app from banks gapps seems really gimped (no panorama, no 360, no hdr) and wont let me install the play store google camera (i got 504 errors with banks installed, and 505 when i moved thew camera2 folder from system/apps).
i am now looking into flashing a moto camera app, or trying to flash a closer to stock google camera app (preferably one that doesnt share signitures)

Check out Camera FV-5. They have a paid version and a lite (free). I spent the $3.99 and it works really well. It also has a lot of controls.

you can get good photos if you remove from recents, but the viewfinder is always dark. see attached. pure shamu b3.1/senseiR20.5, rooted.
i can almost get the moto camera app to work... it takes 1080p soundless video consistently, but photos crash the app, and hdr doesnt work

Alright, so I tried to take some pictures in a room with no lights on and only some natural light coming through the blinds. They look dark like your sample photos. Opened the slimGAPPS camera and everything works, including HDR, correct brightness, etc. I haven't tried recording video. As soon as I turn a light on, it seems to work normally.
In the camera fv5 app, I went and adjusted some of the exposure settings and shutter, the photo brightened right up.
Not sure what is going on. I will try a few more things and report back.

It's funny, it doesn't look like the photos themselves are too bad, just the display on the preview on the screen (i.e., the screen viewfinder). I am wondering if there is some Lollypop function that is not being taken advantage of fully by the 3rd party apps.

best camera application for the turbo

Can anyone suggest a good featured camera application that attributes the potential for turbos camera?
This one is pretty good. Just remember to reboot after installation and to set video on 1080p 30fps.

Photosphere missing in default camera app.

I have a new motor x4 and while using the camera app cannot find the photosphere option anywhere. This is a Google phone so I cannot understand why such an important option is missing. Maybe I just don't know how to find it?

have you checked panorama mode? My Fi X4 has it.
It's missing in the default camera app but you can still make photoshperes with the Google Streetview App.

It's not a Google phone, nor is the camera app included from Google. You could port the modded GCam over to your device for better image and video quality, but I don't know what to tell you of the lack of a photosphere. If you mean the "tap anywhere to capture" feature, then that can be disabled in the camera's settings.
I also miss the photosphere function. Or, on other words, I do miss the official support from Google to Port the Google camera app to more devices.
Latest GCam has been modded to work with other devices under Android Nougat.
I am using that to make photosphere, but I can not import photospheres to G. cardboard viewer.
Moto X4 has a version of photosphere, more like a photocylnder
I just activated my Android One X4 last night, switch from Moto X2 and discovered this morning no obvious photosphere. very sad.
Turns out the Moto camera app (which updated last night) used panorama mode to replicate official sphere. If you take panorama with wide angle it captures a full 360 degrees. These images are then available for cardboard and other sphere viewing modes.
Sadly, or I haven't tried enough, it does not do up and down. Image is blurred above and below, which is a bit disappointing, but understandable.
My photosphere from Machu Picchu would have been lacking without seeing down into valleys below and beautiful sky above. My sphere of last year's eclipse from a cliff overlooking a lake in Wyoming would have been dull without eclipse in sky and terrain/lake below.
But I can guess 90% of spheres have sidewalk/grass below and sun glare above so ...
I could just explore app more and see if it can do it with some settings tweek.

Is there a Faster Camera App?

Any suggestions from experience, with a better camera app, without lag, than the Moto Camera app?

Thanks, Olive!
I'll give that a whirl.
Ok, I side loaded Google camera v4.4 and the shutter is virtually instantaneous. The only issue is there is no setting to save pics to the SD card. There is a SAVE TO toggle, but no destination to choose. No matter whether the toggle is off or on, pics are saved to internal storage.
You can use google camera for outstanding usage of your camera. The camera app is present in pixel phones. It has the HDR+ mode that is not available in moto x4.U can download the apk from any sites. It also features potrait mode!

I didn't come across portrait mode having app, can your pls post the link here if possible?
The stock Gcam apk won't enable portrait mode on this phone. You have to get a modded apk.
Side note, I've used portrait mode a handful of times, and it's only worked decent once. The other 7-8 times it's come out weird, depth map is all wrong, and no way to re-enable it. It's almost useless. That said, the other features of the modded Gcam are nice, such as the HDR+ and 60fps video.
doers it work after the 8.0 update?
thx

Video Camera Failed - Ten Cent (Flashed WW)

Hey guys,
Anyone know why my video recording feature isn't working?
Can take photos fine. Just any of the camera recording stuff just says failed.
Thanks
FANTA
You have to factory wipe, not sign in to anything when you're first setting up your phone, no Fingerprint, no Google, nothing and when you make it to the home screen, then you can sign in and everything will work as intended. Or use Google camera. Just easier to wipe though.

After skipping all the setup like this, how do you then restore all your apps, settings, etc from another device like you can during setup?
Actually this the problem with Google app... Just uninstall update of Google app to factory version... Check your video recording... If it works then install previous version of google app.. 2 or 3 version before is a good one i think. Recheck your video recording after.

Nope it's actually caused by the voice search function. Just disable voice match setting and video recording works again.
If you want to keep voice recognition on, you can also just install a 3rd party app like open camera.
Same issue, installed OpenCamera and everything works fine. Stock camera app has a big red capture button that when pressed causes a video recording error.

Do you retain features like slo-mo video, portrait mode, etc with OpenCamera (or any 3rd party camera)?
All features in OpenCamera work as far as I can tell.

I just tested OpenCamera, and you lose a lot of functionality by using it instead of the stock camera. To name a few things you lose:
1. You lose the wide angle camera
2. You lose the 48mp option on standard camera
3. You lose slo-mo video
4. You lose portrait photo mode
I tried installing the Pixelmaster apk from Open APK and the install fails. My guess is that is has something to do with the microphone. Still troubleshooting..
install the original ROM?
