Home & back button stopped working - K3 Note Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running SLICK s422 ROW on a 2 1/2 week old K3 Note & suddenly my home & back buttons have stopped working. Strangely the menu button still works fine. I'm having to use on screen software buttons to navigate. Has anyone else here had this problem, or a possible fix? I've seen a few reports on the internet of others with exactly the same fault.
I had the handset shipped to the UK from China, so don't suppose I'll be covered by any kind of warranty.
I've tried rebooting into recovery mode & don't feel any haptic feedback when I press them either, so I don't think it's the ROM.

The buttons have started working again!? I pulled the battery to stick a 2nd sim card in & they sprung to life. I did try pulling the battery out before, without success. I'm not complaining, but it is very strange.

hi I have the same problem since this morning. Only left side button work. But when the screen is locked i can start camera and move padlock on screen so buttons are working. After screen unlock they stop to work. Any solution please. Reset and pulling out battery doesn't work.

Hi, I run in trouble with the same. Only menu button works, I got this phone from China as k50-t3s and played around with k50-t5 and Indian Rom. Is there any solution meanwhile

did you modified a factory t3s and then it stopped working?

So there may be an issue with using different chargers with this phone that causes this problem. I only experience this after I've used one my other chargers to charge the phone
FIX?
Note this is just a temporary fix. Like Sandancer75 mentioned, simply remove the battery from the phone for a few seconds and try again. The response on presses after requires a little more effort but atleast it got the buttons working again

Home and back buttons not working
Hey fellas, my device started showing the same problem. Does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks in advance! Peace

Same problem
Does changing the ROM help?

Hey kdobrev,
Thanks for your reply,
I've tried 3 different roms but no success.
Regards

I've got the same problem, changed the bootlogger, the ROM... you name it but no use. Now I've just replaced a cracked screen and now the navigation keys are working again. I wouldn't advise anyone to change the screen if they haven't some experience - The K3-Note screen is a bit of a bugger to replace.

That's a bummer, but thanks for the reply!:good:

help my keyboard and dial keys dont work!

hi everyone.
i was wondering if anyone can help me with this. so ive had my tilt for about 6 months now. and i havent had any problems until now. The keyboard doesnt work at all now. and the dial and hang up button on the front of the phone dont work. The touch touch screen works fine. But the keyboard doesnt work at all, and nor do the buttons on the front work (except for the middle button, and when i press it, it brings me to the screen alignment). i was wondering if anyone can help me fix this.
i dont have insurance on the phone, and im not sure if its some kind of software issue. I tried doing the update on the phone, but it tells me there are no current versions. I also tried doing the softreset and taking out the battery. Deleting everything on the phone and going back to stock software.
if anyone can help me id greatly appreciate it. thanks.
your phone does have a 1 year warranty on it. Turn phone to stock (rom, spl, etc) and get it exchanged for another unit.

[Q] Galaxy S Display Rotated Upside Down. Need Assistance :(

Hi everyone...
I've been having problems with my Galaxy S since yesterday. After upgrading to XXJPM my display is rotated 180 degrees (completely upside down). Strangely enough, the touch interface seems to be working just fine.
For example, the "Phone" icon is supposed to be on the bottom-left of the screen. It is now displayed on the top-right corner (again, upside down) but in order to activate it I still have to touch the bottom-left corner right on the icon's original position.
The display is also rotated 180 degrees if I enter recovery or download mode, but the volume up-down buttons still function as is. There are times when the display will appear normal for a few seconds before rotating itself 180 degrees again.
I followed the installation steps to the letter, did everything properly, I even searched just in case other users had similar issues, but I still haven't found a fix yet (really sorry if I missed similar threads). I also tried calibrating the g-sensor, but that didn't solve the problem.
Auto-rotate works perfectly, but the screen is still upside down no matter which way I rotate the handset. The same goes for when auto-rotate is off.
Any thought will be highly appreciated. I'm also willing to make a small donation if necessary. I'm desperate for a solution
Odd. Try flashing a new rom

I did, but that didn't solve the problem. I think it has something to do with the bootloader since during startup the screen would show the normal Galaxy S logo correctly for about one second and then the display is rotated. Even the download/recovery interface is flipped.
The Good and the bad
Good news first: you are not the only one have this problem.
I have same problem after updated Nordic v. Froyo.
Bad one is I haven't got a clue how to sole the problem.
Let't belive ours has special talent which can jump twice more that ordinary ones.
try reflashing with one of the roms that has a bootloader included. search around not all do.. i know the jh2 for i9000m has bootloader..

Tried this, didn't work too. I also tried Tayutama Edition rom, actually it helps a bit. After finishing the sdcard scanning routine the screen would work just fine for quite a while before going straight back to being rotated. It is also still upside down during the entire boot process.
Found another interesting discovery. Still using Tayutama firmware, if I switch the Power-Saving Mode from Display settings off and on, the display will be reverted back to normal.
I wonder what's causing this issue in the first place...
Tried another fresh rom, still no improvement...
I attached a picture showing how the screen is upside down even in download mode. Notice how the USB port and the download mode triangle just don't match.
Any further advice would be highly appreciated

I'm afraid that doesn't work for me
I'm glad you fixed your Galaxy S though. Quick question: did you have the screen upside down during the Galaxy S logo animation on startup?
It seems diffren kind problem
I am sorry that my solution did not work for you.
Mine did work few hours after down load Froyo.
Then problem began.
Have you tried factory reset then calibration?

Yes, I tried that and it didn't work.
Still trying different solutions right now, hope I can get a good solution soon
I have another Galaxy S in hand. The broken one still has its screen upside down. I was wondering if I can backup the bootloader and ROM of this new Galaxy S with the system working correctly to the broken one. Will that be possible?
As always, inputs are welcomed
Thanks wonbad!

Thanks! I had also problems with auto rotation, did even factory reset but did not start to work until made calibration you mentioned.
I've tried virtually anything to get the display fixed, including doing a complete rom backup of a healthy Galaxy S, and the display is still rotated. I think it really is a bootloader problem.
I took it to Samsung service center here in Bali. They said they can fix it, but they won't because I got the device in UK and I need to take it to a service center in the UK to get it fixed. Crazy...
A quick Note
==========
Just to make it clear, for any future reference, display rotation if shown when it is powered off and charging and also while booting, this is most probably a hardware issue, this can ONLy be achieved by replacing the LCD (or doing a hardware repair of the LCD) it has nothing to do with sensors or software.
Thanks.

Touch screen responsiveness issue

Hi there,
I'm having a problem with my touch screen. It works fine most of the time, except, when I tap the same area many times very quickly (like when I'm backspacing a whole message), that par of the touch screen eventually becomes unresponsive. It becomes responsive again once I turn the screen lock on and off again (the top button). I've read a few threads around with very similar problems (not on here I don't think).
I replaced the touch screen a week ago, but I've only noticed this today, so I'm not sure whether or not it's related.
I'm just running standard LG software and haven't put any third party stuff on there (apart from apps). I've done a full reset using the update utility, and using the hidden menu, but this did not fix the problem.
Here's some details about my phone:
Model: LG-P970
Android Version: 2.3.4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35
Build Number: GRJ22
Software Version: LG-P970-V20C
Please let me know if I should provide any more information. I'm just interested in knowing whether it's a problem with the touch screen, or the phone's software.
Also, I'm new to forums and what-not, so if I'm doing anything wrong, let me know!.
Ok, I've realised this is in the wrong category. Was bound to have done something wrong - won't happen again!
Thanks
Hi there,
Tell me please, does the same happen on the touch keys (menu, home, back, search)?
Also, do you have any screen protector applied?
I have said this few times in other posts..iIts a strange bug, like the touch being lost.
Its fixed easy by locking the phone, thus shutting down the screeen and touch sensor. After few seconds unlock the phone and check if it is solved, or do the process again.
Thanks
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies, sorry I've been away for a while.
It doesn't tend to happen on the home, back, etc, keys. It tends to happen mostly near where the backspace key on the keyboard is. It happens in other places, but it takes a lot more to trigger it to happen in the other places. (by trigger, I mean if you tap the same spot heaps when writing a message it starts to happen).
Also, yes, I've applied a screen protector. The screen protector got put on about 10 hours after the new screen, but I can't for the life of me remember whether or not it was doing it without the screen protector.
Yes, locking and unlocking the phone does fix the problem, but it's a bit of a pain doing this a few times when writing a long message.
I'd really like to know if anyone can tell me whether replacing the touchscreen will solve the problem, or if its to do with other hardware/software. I've since started using the CM roms and it's still an issue.
Cheers.

No solution yet, but lets gather the resources!
Another one

For me it is rom related...
for now I'm using NavBar with 4.0.4
Any ideas?

My main reason for reverting back to 2.3.4. Usually occurred when receiving a call; I couldn't answer or reboot the phone. I had to pull the battery every time.
I'm not aware of any fix, save reverting back to a GB ROM.

i think its hardware issue,,if i press and hold a little while on upper screen (right beside lg logo) touch screen became normal again. but sometimes need to hold on there when touch not work again. a member on this forum call it a flex issue of the touchscreen.
anyone know how much cost to replace it with new flex to fix this issue?

If it works with 2.3.4 and not other versions, it's a ROM issue. Changing the screens probably won't help.
This loss of touch was reported by many users, and it's always a 4.0.4+ problem. Something software-wise is crashing, or there's a driver bug.

U-touch problem

Hi all,
New to this forum. I used my phone during light rain, and thereafter realised that the U-touch button became totally unresponsive to touch (physically pressing it is ok), including swiping, long press, short press and fingerprint sensor.
Anyone facing the same problem or can suggest how I can rectify this? The only thing I've tried is rebooting but it didn't work.
Thanks!
Hi,
I never had any problems with mine.
Did you go into the settings and reset to defaults?

But they say: U-Touch 2.0
Innovative Wet Hand Mode
So they want you to touch it with wet fingers
It sounds like the perfect time to flash CM on it.
Bumping because I'm curious if the OP solved this issue and if others have encountered it. Should I be super careful not to use the phone in any kind of rain?
Any update on that problem? I have the same problem. I'm already considering buying a new home button...
