Double Tap To Sleep Not Working - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This new feature on 6.0.1 does not work on my phone, despite several restarts, safe mode activation, etc. Will not do software repair for now- too much hassle.
Am I the only user who has this problem? Seemed like a nice idea: after double tap to wake, now double tap to sleep!

Are you using the Home launcher?
This was a Concept feature, I'm not sure if it was in the full release. But, if it did, you need to double-tap on an empty area of the homescreen in Home.

I am sure it's a final release feature: the option to toggle it on or off appeared in my home screen settings menu after downloading 6.0.1.
And yes, I know how to activate it: double tap empty space on home screen.
Any Z3 Compact owner reading this whose double tap to sleep works?

Tap To Sleep in 6.0.1: Issue Solved
Just figured it out: while in "tap to wake" I can use many different intervals (i.e. time between the two taps) to activate the function, "tap to sleep" will only accept a precise interval to work: if I double tap just 50 milliseconds too fast or too slow, it will not work.

Well, I suppose that makes sense. Must be frustrating to get that timing right, though..

HI, you need to long press on your home screen and then you get it selected with everything what's there. When you see this that you an remove or add items to your home screen there will be either a setting icon or a plus icon on the bottom that you need to click on. This will show a menu where if you scroll down will give you the option to activate "double tap to sleep" feature. Sony could have put the double tap to wake up and sleep mode in one place ……

[Q] Moto X says whatever I touch...how to turn off?!

Hello,
I somehow managed to turn on the setting that makes my Moto X say whatever I am touching (ie, if I touch the home button, my phone says "home") I am pretty sure it's in the Moto settings, problem is I can't get to the settings. When i touch the apps button, it says apps page one ofs six and i can't scroll over because whatever i touch, the phone just announces it. I can double tap any shown icons, but can't scroll to get to the settings i need.
Any simple way to turn this off?
Thanks
Its in accessibility settings, you'll have to turn off TalkBack. To select an icon or to turn on/off tap on the icon first, then double tap elsewhere on the screen

Double tap to wake?

Hi
P9 plus has Double tap to wake feature ?
no
no, there isn't double tap to wake the screen.
Disappointed !
huawei should pay attention to this feature.
I dont have to rise up the mobile each minute if its on table to use back fingerprint sensor access
u can just push powerbutton on the side.
Even in double tap to wake you have to go through the password/finger print.
You can install "Glance Plus" on playstore for always on feature.
this is why i think LG's knock code is genius -- it's an alternative to the traditional PIN lock or pattern lock, and it's great for when the phone is lying on a table (meaning fingerprint sensor is inaccessible). Tap code lets you unlock phone with a sequence of taps anywhere on the screen, and because you begin tapping with screen off, and you don't really have to look at the screen when you tap, etc, I find that tap code lets me unlock a full second or more than unlocking with PIN.
of course, for phones with fingerprint sensor on the front, this wouldn't be necessary, but i wish all phones with rear fingerprint sensor would steal this feature.
Probably copy right issues involved in getting lg style unclock.
I tried the "KnockOn" app on google play. Working fine so far, although ofcourse will have to still go through the password screen. Have to enable all permissions and also allow app from accessibility settings.
You can make the autolock for 5 or 10 min so you don't need to unlock it with password in this period of time just double tape .
Get the point !
Question: is it true that "knuckle gestures" work when the screen is off, too?
This feature could well overtake the double tap deal in my humble opinion.

double tap

I miss this from my oneplus one. Is it possible to get that function on note8?

Double tap to wake screen? Think LG were first to introduce this.i rembere there were some apps on play store just to do that. Some gesture apps might have that feature.
But Note 8 has alternatives. You can wake up with on screen vibrating button and you can change sensitivity. Also using AOD it has sift button to double tap.

One less tap
I hard press the home button and boom it gets me direct to the home screen.

Yes
Hard press home is a much better alternative, at least in my opinion to double tap anyway.
Just press where the home button should be (even if you can't see it) as if it was a physical button, the phone will vibrate as if you have pressed a proper button and it will turn on, or go home.

out of curiosity, why would a hard press be better than double tap?

I also use long press home on s8+
The big advantage is the prevention of accidental taps since the area to tap is much smaller than the whole or half the screen area

I miss it too.... And ambient display.... It saves more juice for the battery

These are from the S8+ forum. Haven't tried the double tap. Remove battery icon, carrier hider, and remove unlock text works.
Ok, so I guess they work except for the nav bar stuff. And reboot after installation of mod
The only thing with double tap to wake or hard press the home button is you still have your security feature after that. I find it easier just to hit my fingerprint. But I use Nova for double tap to sleep.

Hmm. Yes. Sometimes just to see the notifications I do not want to hit the power button.
You can double tap the Active Display home button. It will take a HARD press or a double tap. It doesn't use the whole screen, but I like the double tap better.
Anyone know how to combine the "lockscreen" with the "pattern"... basically have the pattern always display (and hidden)? It seemed to be an option on previous devices.
I just want to turn on my screen and swipe in my pattern. Right now, the minimalist lockscreen (while pretty), requires an EXTRA unneeded swipe before pulling up the pattern view.
There are too many taps/swipes going on just to get to the desktop. May seem trivial but I'm on my phone a lot for work so I am trying to save as much time as possible.

I use the "press screen" option with the Iris recognition and works flawless. Is fast and secure. Should give a try
Yea I've experimented with that. The picture it took of my eyes was blurry af, so I don't even know how it would work. It is pretty fast though, but the point is I don't want to really pick up my phone every second. Again, I work from home and in remote Support. I typically am remoted into a couple sites and use my phone for my dedicated email screen. So every few seconds I have to unlock.
I just feel like the Active Display is a good lockscreen already. Maybe I'll just remove the "lockscreen" altogether since it just adds a bunch of extra unneeded steps. What I want is just an Active Display > Hard Press or Double Tap > Pin or Pattern. The extra lockscreen is useless.

What is active display? You mean the always on display (aod)?
Anyways I think the phone does what you are asking.. with my phone on the desk I push down on the home button and it goes from the aod to the pattern in one press of the virtual home button. Then I swipe in my pattern.
You can also lower the pressure needed for the home button

In Display > Navigation bar options, there is an option for Hard press bypass the lockscreen. It was turned off in my phone. Someone in another thread clued me in.
That works as requested. It was just in a weird place. That option should be in lockscreen, since it directly references actions with the lockscreen.

I mean it affects every aspect of the UI, so I could also see the location of it argued the other way. Guess that's why we have a search bar in settings.

Is it possible to customize fingerprint scanner gestures?

Hi,
I have a short question - is it possible to customize fingerprint scanner gestures in the P10? Is there a mod or something to do that? I can't stand current selection, single tap should always be 'home'. My perfect set of gestures would look like this:
single tap - 'home'
swipe left - 'back'
swipe right (or up) - 'multitasking/recent apps'
swipe down - pull down the shortcut panel
tap and hold for 0,5 sec - screen off
double tap - toggle between recently used apps (P8 had this! Even bare bones Android has such function)
Give Tasker a try. I don't know, if it's working and if it won't make problems with the EMUI settings, but you can give it a try.
I have to say, that a swipe for everytime I want to go back would be very annoying. I was 9 years on iPhone before I got my P10 and had to get use to it, but know it's like an automatism.
Not going 'home' after tapping the "home" button is much more annoying. Besides the 'back' button is usually on the left side so swiping left is the closest thing.
I asked on the Tasker forums and one of the users said that it requires TouchTask plugin (for Tasker). We'll see.
Were you able to customize the gestures? Did tasker work? I don't use Google app (disabled it) and think there should be a remap feature... Should not be that hard to do...

Is It possible to customize the figerprint navigation setting?

I have a short question - is it possible to customize fingerprint scanner gestures in the P10? Is there a mod or something to do that? I can't stand current selection, single tap should always be 'home'. My perfect set of gestures would look like this:

Funny, I've got the phone on order, and your suggested gestures are exactly what I'm after; seems logical...
Hopefully someone does find a way. It's stupid how it's been set up currently

Check out the double tap mods that have been made in the past on other phones, might be possible to check what was edited or added.
You'll get used to the default settings anyway. I tend to use the back button far often than Home so for me it makes more sense that a short tap works as Back. But yes, EMUI does not provide a comprehensive set of customizations.
