Are custom app notification sounds not a thing anymore for marshmallow? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6

On Lollipop, I created a folder and shoved all of my ringtones and text tones into it; which is what I sourced from when changing notification sounds. Since I upgraded to marshmallow, it appears defaults and whatnot changed. I didn't notice it at first since as far as my ringtone goes, the system was picking it up just fine and Textra is using one of my sounds--not the correct one, but I chalked that up to some stuff not being saved by smart switch when I backed up before the update--but other apps, like Voxer, are using default sounds when I had them all set up previously as not using default sounds.
"No big deal" I thought, since I could just go into various settings and direct them. However, the folder I created isn't showing up for anything other than for the ringtone; even trying to choose a system wide text/email tone from the settings app isn't picking it up the folder when there was no issue in the past. Am I missing something?
I'm using XtreStoLite if this happens to be a custom rom issue rather than settings being moved around in Marshmallow in general.

I have three folders: Ringtones, Notifications, and Alarms. I can confirm that all of my apps can see and use those folders and I've got all of my apps using my customized ringtones.
I'm using the De-odexed stock ROM on mine.

Wierd. I guess it might be an issue with my backup being messed up. Thanks for letting me know that this isn't a 6.0 issue.

Ok, so I don't know what caused the issue, but updating to the latest version of the ROM and factory wiping cleared up the issue. However, I was adjusting the notification tones for my app, and instead of hitting my file manager, I hit "media storage" on accident. And now, not only am I prevented from having the option pop up in the app, I lack the option to choose in any app and all previously adjusted apps have had their notification sounds set to the system default.
Is there any way to reset this without wiping my phone and starting over again? I can't seem to find anything in system settings or app settings.
editisregard, I found the solution.

Handcent SMS question.

For some reason, my Handcent app will at least once per day display its release notes when opened as if I just installed it, and any changes I made to its settings will be reset. This is particularly annoying because I use custom notification tones for different contacts & for new texts in general. What could be the issue? It's not set to autoupdate.

App updates through the market don't mess with your saved data/app settings, so that's probably not it. The next time it happens, uninstall/reinstall the app and see if that helps. Do this through the market, not from a Titanium Backup batch or anything similar. Also, I believe Handscent has an option to back up all of your user settings. The next time you have to reconfigure everything, make a backup of your settings. At the very least, it will save you a hell of a lot of time until you figure out what the problem is.

I reinstalled it like you suggested. I also tried reinstalling via EasyUninstaller. Neither fixed the problem.
Also, to backup the settings, you have to be a premium user.
The only thing I can think that would have affected the app is I installed a custom theme for it. It wasn't a theme from within the app itself, but a mod a user had made to change the keyboard color and some other things. I thought I had uninstalled it, though. I installed it via AppsInstaller with the apk being on my sd card. I'll try to find the thread I got the apk from.
OK, here it is: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/team-fusion/34058-release-themed-handcent.html
What Rom are you running? Stock Captivate or ?. Some roms cause this issue, resets the app (s) for some reason. I've had the issue on a few other apps but not handcent. I also registered the app, might make a difference.

I'm running Darkys 7.0.1 port, if you've heard of it. It's VERY nice on appearance and battery life, but this problem just sucks!
Would registering it fix the problem? I don't want to pay $3 just to remove the ad bar.
There is a free registration. Not sure if that will fix the problem but hell, it's free and saves your settings.
I have restored handcent using TiBu for at least the last 10 rom flashes, app + data and never had a problem, just did it this morning when going to Perception 9.5, and every things is working fine, logged in and it restored all my theme settings, preferences, etc.
That's with the free registration. Quote from them " Register free handcent account, get online quicktext and online themes services"
Other thing is, are you running the latest update? Every update has always fixed any issue I was having with the program.
Saw this: "with the new version of Handcent just released and it seems to break handcent even after resigning the app. " From the link you posted.

[Q] App Drawer is Empty

Oddly enough, my entire app drawer is showing up blank. If I start searching, they're all there and my apps and widgets are all intact. Somehow, I must have disabled something in Titanium Backup that caused them to disappear. Can't find anything about it online. After rebooting multiple times and trying to re-enable everything I can think of, I've had no success. I had app my apps organized into folders on the stock launcher until something happened, and I've noticed at times I get the toast notification "Service started." Any ideas? I'm running the latest stock ROM on Sense.

Sounds resetting to default

I've had this phone for about 3 weeks now and it happened a couple of times that the ringtone, Test Tone and Notification tone reset themselves to the systems default sounds, so I have to go to the system settings and select my sounds again, which is really annoying. I'm currently using ZUI Version 2.0.057 ST (just saw that there's a new version I'm going to update to). Does anyone else have problems with this?
I'm also using the system in english and MoreLocal2 to use apps in german, which causes a few of the system apps, and Bejeweled Classic for some reason, to crash. They run fine, when setting everything to english. I suspect that this also affects the sounds, but I could not confirm this yet.

Unable to use mp3 as ringtone or notification

I haven't changed the ringtone for my calls or notifications since the T-Mobile update to Android 10. Earlier this week I went to change my default notification & kept getting the error "wrong file type, please choose again". It did this for every mp3 sound I selected & they all worked prior so I know there isn't anything wrong with the file. I then tried the same with the default ringtone & got the same error. I can play the mp3 with no issues through an mp3 player app. The only sound format that appears to be working for notifications & ringtones is if I use a wave file. Has anyone else seen this occurring on their phone?
You can try clearing the cache of the phone. There are apps that can do that. Aside from that.... backup your data, calls, and everything in Samsung Cloud. And reset phone. Then see if it still does it. If after a reset it still does it I would reflash it with the newest stock ROM.
Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
I had this exact same issue. I had to strip all of the tags from the mp3 files and put them in the 'notifications' or 'ringtones' folders. Once I did that, they appeared in the built-in media picker and also worked when using esExplorer to set the ringtone or notification.

Can't Change Notification Sound in Samsung Text Message App

Have tried Samsung, Verizon, and Android text message apps. Can change notification sound in app BUT, no matter what it says in app, the default system notification plays. Changed system notification sound and now get it in message app but also (as expected) everywhere else. This was a slam dunk on my S9. What am I missing?

After posting first message, links to similar popped up. Followed to individual apps in notifications. Two problems. Can't find where I changed default system notification and, having used Zedge in a couple places, I now cannot get to anything but the Zedge app downloads or site. Can't get to any "default" sounds that came with phone.

Got the Zedge thing fixed - I had accidentally set Zedge as default.
BUT, the notification issue persists. It does not seem to matter whether I change notification sound directly in app or thru apps section of settings, I still get only whatever is set in the system notification area !! It SAYS in the app that I have changed the sound BUT it STILL goes to the default sound. Is this a bug in the S10 ??
