X2 compared to GX2

I am really wanting the T-Mobile GX2 and I have read through a lot of posts. I am coming from the Vibrant which has tons of pro's and a few crappy Cons but over all it is a great phone. Even reading through a lot of posts I am still not seeing a few answer's that I have.
One is the Vibrant has 2gigs for app installs. I love this compared to the N1's wimpy 192k. So how much does the 2X have for application storage? By that I mean without Apps2SD.
The screen? Is it a standard LCD? AMOLED? I love the Vibrants screen, but it can be annoying for TXT on some websites.
HDMI output? Is it just a standard cable? and is it a true 1080p on the big screen or a scaled 840x480 that the phone puts out? And is it true mirroring, meaning anything on the phone is displayed on the TV and I mean anything?
WIFI? is it N? Bluetooth? I hear the Wiimote is not working, but I am wondering if the T-Mobile version with the AOSP setup will make a difference.
Speaker internal and ear piece. I am really bad on hearing and I love the Vibrants ear piece as there is an option for HAC mode which CRANKS up the earpiece volume so I can hear in a noisy environment. And is the external speaker loud? Again hearing a game is important and a nice clear loud speaker is not a requirement but a plus.
size and weight? is it a super heavy device? and how does it fit in large hands? Do you feel like it is constantly trying to jump out of your hand? My Vibrant is a bit slick and sometimes I feel like it could just fly out of my hand.

Since I dont have the international version of this phone, I am not sure on some of these things that you mentioned but I will share what I have read so far. I am on the same boat and I am starting to not like my Vibrant due to lack of support from Samsung and also faulty gps. I am considering to buy this phone when it comes out and I don’t think I will ever go with a Samsung phone again.
As far as memory goes, G2X will come with 2gb memory for apps and android system. And it will also come with 8gb storage on board.
The screen is an IPS LCD, I am not sure what exactly it will be called. Since iphone retina displays are made by LG, I am expecting to see similar type of screen. The blacks might not be as good as the AMOLED but it will probably be better dpi, less pixilation. So better text reading compare to vibrant screen.
The phone will will have other similar specs, such as the HDMI output, 512 ROM, 8mp camera and 1.3mo font facing camera, NVidia tegra 2, same wifi chip, same Bluetooth chip and same battery. The HDMI connection will be a micro HDMI to standard hdmi, there wont be any tweaks or adaptors and you should be able to have 1080p signal.
I am not sure on the speakers, others who has this phone will have better input on this.
Size will be almost the same to international version, it will be a little larger than vibrant but same screen size. The weight will be slightly more. Almost the same weight as iphone 4. I believe about 139grams.
Above all this phone will have quad-band data. In other word it will be able connect ATT's 3g network if there is a merge in the future. Also this phone will have a hdspa+ capability, which should be 21mb/s data speeds. But the main reason that I think I want this phone is because it will run on stock android. It will be free of the bloatware and It should look clean and presumably a lot faster. For that reason I am assuming it will take more attention by XDA-devs, and hopefully more custom roms and support.

App install partition is 1.45gb
Screen is a beautiful IPS LCD, as used on the Iphone 4 (LG produce the screen for the Iphone 4) - sharp, very bright, with vibrant colors and good viewing angles
Being an LCD blacks are not as solid black as on Amoled, but blacks are still very good for an LCD and color reproduction is good - it is a very high class LCD screen, pictures look stunning, easily as good as my HTC Desires Amoled screen. Looking at it you wont feel you miss out.
HDMI output is a standard HDMI cable but with micro HDMI in the phone end off cource. The cable comes with the phone. It is true mirroring, what you see on the phone you also see on the screen. Since android itself only support screen resolution op to 854x480 all Android screens (desktop, games etc.) are in this resolution being scaled to selected output resolution of either 720p or 1080p, but when you play video it switch from mirroring to only outputting video in native video resolution, and you can then only see video controls on the phone screen and the video overlay itself in 1080p on the flatscreen.
Wifi is N
Speaker is mediocre - both internal and external - not bad but nothing really special either. No HAC mode to my knowledge
It is not heavy at all, despite its size, which actually doesnt feel that big either, it feels light but solid. The feeling in the hand when holding it is excellent - better than almost anything else. Edges are rounded, even the glass front has rounded sides, backplate are "rubbery" feeling - you dont feel like you are going to drop and its very comfortable to hold and comfortable towards the ear also. I have tried most phones on the market the last 10 years or so and I cant think of anything with a better feel when holding it. Some (who dont own the phone) complaints about the buttom space for softbuttons being to big, but its actually just perfect. The sice means that the softbuttons are comfortable to reach when using the phone with one hand, and it means you dont make accidental touches. My Iphone 4 feel like barbwire in comparison. Sharp, slippery and uncomfortable to hold and to put next to your ear.

Thanks guys for the compares! The 1.5Gb install is a win as I really don't want to go back to the limit app space. And I cannot wait to see the screen in person as the Iphone 4 screen does look nice. The micro HDMI is cool, was hoping it wasn't that special USB plug that requires strange adapters. As for the feel I finally pulled up some pics that shows sizes between the Vibrant and the x2 and they look about the same with the x2 being just a bit thicker, so that would work.
The missing HAC is going to suck as my hearing is horrible and I need that extra sound boost. Guess I'll have to wait and see.. er.. hear it.

I did not see anything in this link that covers the G2X, and it is not listed in "LG" phones when you open that link on the left. This thread was on the differences (like the additional 3/4G bands, etc.).

Why would the g2x be listed under LG? It is the "T-mobile g2x"

Good catch - thought they would list under manufacturer and assumed that it only showed current phone - it actually has the G2x US device. In shows the extra 3G/4G frequencies (the only reason I may get it).
In the list of other software, it does not show WiFi calling - really hope that can be installed.

...furthermore, why is a T-Mobile phone using the 850MHz HSPA band and not the usual 900MHz one? Even if it goes through, the AT&T/T-Mobile merger deal isn't going to take effect until well after everybody's moved on from the "G2X"
Kind of annoying, as pretty much the rest of the world uses 900MHz HSPA

I have posted in a couple other forums and the threads lost all meaning because no-one understood what I was asking so I made sure this time by listing some things about the Vibrant as a reference. All I am asking is for 2x info, detailed better then specs sheets tell, so I can see if the G2x is going to be worth getting since both devices will be very similar.

There are several phone companies that are finding it easier to make a base phone that supports more then one carrier and pass it through the FCC. Every FCC filing costs the phone manufacture money and anything to alleviate that cost helps. There are a couple sprint phones coming from manufactures that carry Verizon freq's as well. I think this will be a trend amongst all phone manufactures sooner or later.
Also the 850 to 900 issue, I have no idea, maybe it's because of a spectrum issue here in the states. Or maybe ATT just wants to be different.

850 is an AT&T US band - not 900. TMo has a problem here (US) already with selling possible dead-end devices. And since offering "discounted' devices for new or extended contracts is the primary way of signing up and keeping customers in the US, this could be a real problem to them down the road.
Even though many will move up to a different device by then (AT&T) anyway, it still is a worry point, and according to a few local TMo stores - they are noticing it already.

I looked at the network frequencies on t-mobile.com & on phonearena.com and i say this definately my next phone. It has both at&t 3g/hspa and t-mobile 3g/hspa. I'm glad t-mobile brings this out so AT&T won't cripple it like they do their android phones. Its sad that AT&T customers have to go 5 miles to be able to sideload apps, find out that HSUPA is disabled, and deal with capped data speeds. Phuck that. I like AT&T's service but I never bought an AT&T locked android phone. Hence my rant. I will be buying one and unlocking it to use with AT&T. It might help me out if the merger goes through. Having all the bands would totally kick butt!

Galaxy Note vs LG Nitro

Hi all - I've been planning to upgrade from my Infuse 4G to a Note for a while now, primarily because of the extra screen real estate (obviously), though I hear the battery on the Note is killer as well. The thing is though that the Note isn't available in the States, which means I'm looking at $700-$800 at least to get one. Typically I'd be okay with that, but these days more and more phones are actually making it over here, and I know there is a rumor that the Note will follow suit. I'd hate to spend $800 just to see it for $400 in a couple months. I'm thinking I'd rather get something like the LG Nitro for now, which I can get for $250, and then still get the Note when it hits the States for less anyway - and still probably spend less than getting a Note right now.
Anyway, I'm looking for some opinions... The fact that there isn't a thread for the LG Nitro here yet counts for something, but I'm sure there will be one soon enough. It looks like some of the Optimus drivers work for rooting, so I'm okay there. And I don't care about the stylus at all. So it really just comes down to screen - Super AMOLED 5.3", or super high pixel density 4.5"? And is the battery on the Note really that awesome?

If you want a Note, just use your upgrade to get something with high resell value (like an iphone), sell it, then buy the Note. Even if the Note comes to the US next year, you won't be able to get it for $400 if you use your upgrade now to get a Nitro for $250.

I actually have two lines (one that I used in a wifi access point) that are available for upgrade. In any case, I'd rather stick with my Infuse than get an iPhone! That's a downgrade!

I'm not suggesting you actually use the iphone, just buy it, sell it, then buy what you really want with the profit. It's just a way of taking advantage of the subsidy without being limited to the phones they officially subsidize.

Oh. Well, I was looking for a replacement for my Infuse, for the next few months at least.
Anyway - I did pick the Nitro up at lunch. The screen is SUPER crisp, though it does suffer from the lack of contrast range of the Super AMOLED screen. So far I like it. We'll see how it goes over the next month.
It is also LTE, and I did some side-by-side comparisons, and it definitely loads up web pages faster (though that could also be the fast proc; I'm not sure).

if youre fine with gingerbread, i'd say grab the nitro. samsung already announced the note will be getting ICS. LG are normally slow to update their phones (look at the optimus 2x, only just got gingerbread quite recently).
on the bright side, the LG uses a 4.5inch IPS panel combined with a HD resolution. the combination leads to incredibly sharp pictures with quite vivid colours. i wouldnt mind giving one a go myself. the only major downsides with the LG are tiny built in storage and the poor battery life. but if you have a 32gb class 10 microSD card and charge your phone on a nightly basis anyway, that wont be an issue.

The Note's Amoled screen will definitely have burn-ins, maybe in months if you are a heavy user. The Nitro's screen won't have any of that problem since it's screen is LCD. One thing to consider.

The massive width of the Note is the only thing I don't like, and has me considering selling and switching to Optimus LTE (or Nitro HD if it can be unlocked). The Note's screen is beautiful, taking screenshots is super easy with the stylus or with palm swipe. If Note was 1280x720 it would not be quite as wide. I do love the S-Calendar and S-Memo apps, with or without the stylus, and Samsung's text message app is nice looking too.
9 Dec - Just saw Galaxy S II HD LTE specs. 1280 x 720, 4.7". This could be perfect. Would be much easier to handle one-handed. It is only 3 mm wider than S II, and actually 1 mm less than Skyrocket in width. If they would only add the S-Pen and its apps!

Yeah; I did pick it up yesterday and I was actually quite impressed with the Mail app. The only thing it is missing is that you cannot auto-sync folders other than your Inbox in Exchange accounts. BUT, I only need that for RSS feeds anyway, and I can always install another mail app for just RSS.
I am bummed though because while I could root it, I was having some problems with some apps and I used BusyBox installer to try to update BusyBox, and it broke my root! Now, I have superuser installed but it cannot actually authorize anything, and SuperOneClick can't do anything because it keeps trying to use the old BusyBox (I think). So I believe I'm stuck until someone comes up with some ODIN images...

If you're not dieing for the Note (Like I was haha), just wait until the price drops to $600.
DO NOT buy the AT&T N7000B, the Note that's coming to the states
Heres Why:
-The USA Note will have the 1.5ghz Snapdragon processor SoC, similiar to the T-mobile Galaxy S2 and the LTE Galaxy S2, which is even worse than the 1.2ghz Exynos in the Galaxy S2. The LTE Galaxy S2 or dubbed the "****rocket" by AT&T and the T-mobile Galaxy S2's users have reported laggy transitions, bad performance when gaming, and general slowness.
-AT&T LTE is probably the biggest marketing trap ever created. The people who want LTE think that the NEW LTE phone will be better, but they are generally worse (hardware wise). LTE from AT&T gives you decent speeds IF you live in one of the 9 cities that has AT&T LTE coverage. BUT... if you use too much data too fast, which is almost impossible to stop on LTE, you get throttled.
Then your download speeds on LTE are 0.05kbps
-AT&T and USA carriers have been found to put software that tracks your EVERY move on the device and they can see EXACTLY what you're doing. Big Brother is watching...
-AT&T is famous for releasing butchered versions of smartphones after incorporating LTE, so much so that developers for our OG Note will not be able to port over ROMS/Kernels. Basicly you're gonna receive no developer support. The AT&T Skyrocket section is so depressing that there are 2 developers, and the users are beginning to start paying for ROMS.
-AT&T bloatware... will hinder your device and sometimes you may not even realize what bloatware they have on your USA Note.
Well if that doesn't stop you from buying the USA Note, I don't know what will. While others read this, I'm going to think of a clever name to make fun of the USA Note with.

I really don't care about the whole CarrierIQ stuff, and AT&T is actually getting a lot better about bloatware - you can uninstall all the crap they pre-loaded on the Nitro (though it's easy enough to freeze such apps anyway). Developer support would be a concern, and I happen to be one of those living (and working) in an area with LTE coverage - so the extra speed is ... well, something. But the processor change... why would they do that?

Well, right now it's half speculation/half leaked reports. The general consensus that people have reached is that it's the Snapdragon.
As for why... I have come to believe that AT&T likes using Snapdragons primarily because they are cheaper to manufacture/or they receive a discount for the parts.
Ah, another detail I forgot to mention (you may already know this) but... LTE radios require extra space and that adds extra thickness to the phone, as well as changes the dimensions--not too much, but enough to make our OG cases unusable for the USA note.

AT&T isn't the manufacturer, so I can't imagine parts cost is a factor. It's probably more likely a power consumption/radio interference issue.
Good point on the LTE thickness! I'll probably just enjoy my Note for now, and then when it does hit the States take that opportunity to check out the screen and form factor in person - make sure I really prefer it to the Nitro - and then order one from overseas...

I myself used the "if it comes to AT&T with LTE it's probably going to end up with a slower processor" argument as a reason to get an international unit now. But...

I don't understand this. Assuming your data usage doesn't change (you still go to the same sites, download the same data, etc.), you shouldn't use any more data than you would on 3G. Now, if your saying that because you CAN download data faster an LTE, you COULD use more data and therefore get into trouble faster, that's hardly a downside of LTE. That's like saying you want a slower car because you get tickets in a faster car. That doesn't mean a faster car is worse, that just means you can't control yourself. Personally, I would MUCH rather have the ability to download faster, and get the same amount of data in less time. Here in Atlanta anyway, 3G is really bogged down, and when I'm at a crowded event I may not be able to get any service. I would love to have the ability to use the much less crowded spectrum. But if I have to get a slower CPU and less battery life, then it becomes less appealing.

I don't think that has anything to do with AT&T. Even the Korean LTE Note supposedly uses the Snapdragon. Why would Samsung use someone else's CPU in their LTE enabled phones if their own CPU could do it? I don't understand why, but apparently the current version of Exynos just can't do LTE.

Well, from the reports I've been hearing from my friend with an HTC Vivid, he said that some of the bloat that ships with LTE phones auto-updates even if you have it turned off. If unnoticed over a long period of time, it stacks up.
Just for me at least, if I get LTE... I will probably hit 30gbs per month haha, so I might as well stick with Faux G.
I also researched the processor predicament as well. It seems the only chipset + processor that works with Quad-band phones with LTE are the Snapdragons. It's a shame though because Snapdragons are unreliable and give a studdery performance. I played with the ****rocket at my corporate AT&T store in NYC and it was extremely laggy compared to the model for the OG SGSII.
Exynos Chipsets just aren't compatible with LTE radios yet I guess. Oh well, if I get LTE, I'll get throttled after a couple of hours, so I'll stick with my OG Note.
There may also be the question of ICS for the USA Note. Depending on when it's released, it may not ship with ICS. If that's the case, USA Note purchasers will be held hostage waiting for AT&T to give them an update for it.

One big reason to get International version.
PHYSICAL HOME BUTTON.
The size of the Note makes it very hard to solely rely on the smallish recessed upper right power button. Especially one handed.
Exynos is also a good reason. And if it gets any thicker it would fee "too big" IMHO.

I don't know about doing it with Odin.
I would follow dr.ketan's guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18978158&postcount=1):

I would never get the Nitro myself.

[Q] Questions about the HTC One before I upgrade my contract

I am in the process of doing an upgade, I should be getting it in a couple weeks. However, when I was playing around with it at the store I had some issues with it.
1) LTE was a problem with the device, and from poking around these forums, I have noticed that other users are experiencing problems. With the demo device, the One was unable to get LTE / 4G, however the S4 that was sitting almost directly next to it was able to pick up 4G fine. Is this a big issue?
2) Does this phone support tri-band LTE? Since I know Sprint is moving to that (or already has moved to that) that would be ideal.
3) How is battery life in low signal areas for this phone? At home, even though we have an airave this only helps a very small area in the household. So in general, I am bound to be roaming or have 0 bars.
4) Design wise how is this phone? Everything I have heard it is sturdy, and when I was playing with it at the store it felt solid.
5) Any huge faults (other then the possible SIM/LTE Issue) that would be pointed out on this?
6) Do you have to do the HTC-Dev trick to unlock the bootloader? Coming from a S2 there wasn't really any need to do any of that trickery, just flash and be done.
Right now, I am trying to decide against the S4 or the One, and while the S4 has a removable battery and microsd, if the One has 32 GB of storage, that should be plenty for me as long as I can set up Folder Sync, or a tasker profile to sync images and files to my server.
I am not really a huge fan of the S4 from a Touchwiz perspective, and all the new "features" just seem sorta gimmicky to me, granted I have never really tried them but enabling them is just destined for drained battery usage. I have never really had a Google Experience Phone, I have the nexus 7, but that is a tiny bit differentm so I am not sure as to whether flashing the Google Edition Roms would be of any benefit for me.
At this stage, I am just trying to figure out the benefits of one phone over the other (apart from removable battery and microsd card).

I can't answer 1 or 2 because I don't have LTE where I live but I've been hearing that some people get through like five to six hours on screen time on a single charge but some don't. Design wise, this phone is probably the best looking and feeling handset out right now. It can compare with the iPhone and probably is better. Feels really good. And yes you have to do the HTC Dev thing. I would suggest getting the One over the S4 but that's just me. I got it because I was tired of using TouchWiz and absolutely hated it (came from S2 as well), didn't care if it had a SD card slot or not because 32 GB is plenty like you said and because the phone is just incredible. Feels really good in the hand and Sense 5 is great. Watch review videos on both the One and the S4 to see what they each offer. In a lot, if not all, of the videos I've seen of the HTC One vs S4, the reviewer chooses the One. Its just a really good device. I don't have a lot of first hand experience with it though. Played with it a few times and loved it. My One should be here in a few days and I am really excited

I'm not in a LTE launched area but I am in an area where LTE is spread all over and let me tell you, this phone struggles to hold LTE when you hit - 115dbm or greater. Where as other devices(my wife's s3 and my Note 2) Will hold onto 4G just fine.. And to keep a good LTE signal I have to practically fornicate with a cell site... If I could do it over again I wouldn't. Other things made me happy though such as the screen, stereo FF speakers, build materials etc...

My One holds LTE just as good as my S3, guess it depends on how good LTE is in your city. And every review I've seen they always choose the One over the S4. You can't go wrong with this phone.

The LTE in my area has been pretty fast, and constant, but in some cases it does drop. As stated before, I guess it just matters how good the LTE service is in your area. The phone quality is excellent, but if you weren't going to use a case, the black version of the phone chips off if you were to drop it, leaving little white marks on the otherwise good looking phone. As for battery, mine usually lasts about 8 hours with a good amount of usage (a lot of music, internet, Twitter, texting, Youtube), and usually about 14 hours if I just check everything once in a while.

Still hard to tell for me about lte - it's my first lte phone too. It works well but most people complain it doesn't pick it up as well as others. The recent update sprint pushed seems to have resolved that but I'd look for others to chime I to confirm.
Edit: also there are no triband phones yet. Htc one doesn't support the triband network.

Yeah, I have been reading reviews and watching videos, and so far everyone I have seen is sorta on the fence, or they end up going either way. 32 GB is nice, but, if I accidentally wipe the storage space or something goes wrong with the phone, have that SD Card in there for me to save all my pictures too, is definitely a positive. Same with the removable battery. Because otherwise, you replace the entire thing. I have held the device (albeit with the anti-theft hardware on it that is the sprint store and such). I enjoy the feel, it feels solid, I would just have to wonder how hot it gets, compared to the S4. I know my S2 gets pretty hot at times. From the reviews I read about the camera, they also favor the S4 since the HTC One's algorithms for reducing noise seem to interfere with pictures in broad daylight as well. Which is a definite negative.

Yeah, the dual forward facing speakers are a definite plus. It does indeed make the sound so much stronger/better. Like I mentioned above, the build felt solid in my hand.

I would be using a case, definitely. What is your average signal area? Full bars, medium signal strength, or low? I personally live in a low signal area at home, and at school I had 5 bars, though, I don't know if they have LTE there.

Hm, thanks for confirming that. I was hoping they would have supported it considering they are going to be moving forward with tri-band lte.
On another note, has anyone used the Zoe feature? Is it all that nice or is it more or less just really stupid? When I was talking to the sales rep, he was like "Yeah, I use the zoe feature all the time with my kids" and to be honest, I think he was just trying to sell the HTC one up. Does anyone know if there are applications developed by a third party that perform a similar function?

I know this may be out of the question, but have you considered t-mobile?
Their phone is also unbranded, but it is international, GSM, gets more support from developers, uses T-Mobile's blazing fast HSDPA+ (and soon, LTE), and should cost about the same...
Zoe is nice. But not for those who use 4.1.2. It stores 20 pictures and one 3 second video. The 4.2 update fixes that, saving only 1 picture and 1 video. You can still extract your stuff though.
For me, the 32 Gb is enough. I load this thing up with huge games and I take a lot if HD video, but I always transfer it to my HDD. If you are using this on vacation, I recommend using OTG. That way you can transfer all your pictures to the flash drives.
Battery life is subpar in my opinion. Not what I would expect from a "comeback" phone. I am never able to get more than 10 hours or so of normal use. However, the custom ROMs in here apparently are way more efficient and there are people getting like 60 hours of use.
The phone gets hot. Like 101 degrees Fahrenheit hot. And you feel it. Because the entire back if the phone is like a giant heatsink. But that's better than the S4. I'm sure it gets just as hot, but cooks the hardware instead letting the heat out.

Unimpressed !

Coming from the Droid Maxx i am unimpressed. I thought with all the specs being better the phone would be better. It isn't. Not by a long shot. Today with my first full day of what would be its normal use
1 - the battery didnt make it through 3/4 of the day with out me having to plug it in( same as my maxx).
2- You cant talk and go online at the same time or use any apps that require an internet connection. This is a deal breaker for me. Not only have I become used to having that ability I now rely on it and need that ability. I called Verizon and the guy told me that at the end of the year there wohld be an update to make it so i could via Wifi. As I said this is a deal breaker for me. I informed the man i would be returning the phone.
3- The phone gets hot ? I was litstening to my music and noticed how warm it was through my pocket ?
4- This so called rapid charger is garbage. It still took 3-4 hours to charge the phone completly. The charger it's self only has room for 1 usb cord and the way its set up it takes up 2 spots on my surg protector..
If your coming from a Samsung or LG or any other phone your probably going to like it. I think that the 2013 line of Moto phones set the bar so high that the bump in the specs just isnt enough to impress( except for the new X phone. My girlfriend has one and it is a worthy step forward ) I hope this isnt the direction Moto is heading w/ Leveno being in charge.
That all being said. I'll be sending this phone back and looking at the Nexus. Hopefully it will impress .
P.S. My girlfriends X is uploading Lolipop right now.

#1, #3, and #4 are all related to the battery, which could be defective, or it may just need to be reconditioned. The rapid charger is designed to rapidly charge up to 8 hours battery life in 15 minutes, after that it will then slow down to complete the full charge. The phone has been known to get hot when it is on the rapid charger.
But even if you get past the battery issues, #2 is still a deal breaker for you.
BTW: Lenovo didn't take over Motorola until the end of October and the Turbo was already in the works before then.

You listed the specs as reasoning for buying the phone and then rattled off nitpicks which aren't specs related.
I'm curious what your screen settings are and screen on time is. That battery usage seems uncharacteristic from what I've seen on mine and in the battery thread.

#2 was covered in every review of the phone that I saw online. If that was a deal breaker you should have done better research on the phone before you bought it. You could have saved yourself time and money and saved us your sob story lol. The rest seems like you got a bad unit but, we would need to know your "screen on-time" to get a better idea.
I find it funny that you put down the Turbo for battery life and praise the X which has maybe the smallest battery of any 2014 flagship phone. If you had the X it probably would have been dead in half the time as the Turbo.

My screen settings are 1 , brightness is on auto and as for sleep its at 1 min.
Your right I missed the part of the reviews I read about how the phone is not capable of simotainously making a phone call and going online at the same time. ( Something 4g lte brought us a few of years ago and that my 3-4 year old bionic is capable of ? ). I'm sorry you felt my thoughts on this supposed flagship phone was a sob story. I felt it was more of a warning to other Maxx owners who were about make a similar mislead decision. Also having used both phones ( and not just held them at the store ) I think my review of the was spot on. If you already have a Maxx or Ultra the Turbo is NOT a big enough step forward to warrant the change. As far the new X goes it IS a step forward from last years model. So enjoy your ignorante bliss opinion and your time with your over spected but uselessly speced phone as my Maxx does everything your silly phone does and more ( i can go on the net and talk at the same time )

Is a little exaggerated.

Mr. 64impala (BTW nice car) . You could very well be right. I could have got a bad unit. However after spending a few days with the phone I'm not willing to put the time and energy into getting a replacement . I would just rather send it back and stick with my Maxx. I hope this phone brings you guys much enjoyment and satisfaction. I was just hoping for another game changing phone like the Maxx was for me. It was never my intention to put down the turbo although after reading my review I could see how was taken that way.

I am using on Tmo- and #2 is not a problem for me. Bestphone ever. Not sure how many cycles you have been through on the batt, but I am a power user like you and this is the only phone that I have had that makes it through the day. The X lasted until about 1pm....

Just going to mention this since no-one brought it up.
The phone can already do voice and data if you are connected via wifi. I tested this just now to be 120% sure.
Verizon has said they will be releasing an update by the end of the year to enable VoLTE (Voice over LTE). This will allow you to use the data connection while on a call when you are NOT connected to wifi. This was discussed in nearly all of the reviews that I read about the phone.

Man, I have a Turbo and love it, but VoLTE is not going to be all it's cracked up to be, especially for those that travel or live in spotty areas. Because:
1. You are connected to LTE and make a call. Great! You have data. But if you go outside of LTE the call drops. No auto switching to CDMA, better hang up and call again.
2. You are outside of LTE when the call starts. To bad, you have no data. Travel into an area with LTE? To bad, call won't auto switch to VoLTE; you'd have to hang up and make a new call. and make sure to stay in LTE range because of #1.
I get what they are trying to do, but going outside of LTE and having a call just DROP is going to make a lot of people very, very angry.

Ya, I will agree, the fact that it will drop the call if you lose LTE coverage does suck.
Unfortunately this is likely going to be an issue with most phones going forward, not something just specific to the turbo.

I'll be taking mine back. I put almost two weeks into mine and I don't think the battery is great. The moto voice is sketchy at best not even topping last year's moto x. I came from an LG G2 and just watching how crappy this camera is, compared to a phone with almost half the mp is ridiculous. They added the top of the line processor a high mp camera locked up the bootloader and called it a day. If you like to take pictures (my main appeal for the high mp count, or want something more than vanilla android., don't bother with this phone. This is the last chance I gave to Moto. Just not my thing.

The Mega Pixel Myth
You do realize that just because it is a high megapixel camera that that doesn't mean it is a high quality camera?
A megapixel is nothing more than one million tiny dots of color. Having a high megapixel camera just means that you have more dots in the photo. It doesn't mean that they will be perfect dots. It could very well be 21 million crappy dots. A good photo has more to do with the camera lens, circuitry, sensors, lighting, composition, etc.
The truth is that you don't really need anything more than 8 megapixels to take a great photo that can be printed on an 8 x 10. Anything more than that is just overkill.
The only reason why I like having a camera with more megapixels is so that I can crop them and still have an image with enough pixels to look good printed.

Just to address the OPs second issue, I'm using the Turbo on Three in the UK and can use the data connection and make calls at the same time without issue.

The Turbo has only one modem in it, capable of both CDMA and GSM, but not at the same time. With VZW, calls take place on CDMA, but data is over LTE (GSM). Other carriers that have been mentioned in this thread (TMO, Three) are GSM carriers so calls take place over GSM as well.

Looking into the Idol 4 (cricket)

I'm looking into getting an Idol 4 as an upgrade. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Light which is just a terrible phone all around lol. This phone spec wise seems like a great deal for the price (currently 149.99). But I don't like buying things without reviews and this phone has almost none. So since some of you have it I was hoping I could get some feedback on how it is. I generally use mine for light gaming, lots of video streaming, social networking and lots of texting, and some web browsing. I wouldn't mind getting into taking more pictures as well since the kids are starting to get bigger. Anything you have to say would be greatly appreciated. Just remember I'm interested in the Idol 4 not the S variant. Thank you in advance!

Honestly this phone is really awesome all around. Gaming is very descent but one thing that I absolutely love about this phone is the sound quality. Literally it is in Surround sound. Only gripe is some of the picture quality and heat using the VR. Other then that it is super fast with great battery life. I went from a Samsung galaxy edge 7 to Alcatel Idol 4 and don't regret it one bit. Just wishing the root was out to make this phone better.

I came from a G3. The G3 was accused of quickly becoming warm, due to the high resolution display but this phone, to me, becomes warm under less stress. Generally a reboot helps ease the struggles and it cools down for the day. My brightness is almost always at less than 50% but my battery life is about an hour of SOT less, I consistently notice that I now have 2gb of RAM and not 3. I can clear all my apps, open chrome with 4 tabs, exit to the home screen and reopen chrome to see it's reloading the entire app. When using Google maps or Waze, it takes about a full second for my touch to register in the app but on screen keys are unaffected. My apps are minimal, not even Facebook but I use Facebook messenger lite, no widgets or abnormal background apps, so I don't feel I'm pushing the device too far.
I list all of these but I honestly feel they're software issues. I've replaced the stock launcher and noticed a huge difference. The biggest selling points are the amazing speakers, solid build quality but invest in tempered glass protector, extremely capable camera, VR headset and near stock. You can disable quite a bit of added and unneeded software and that helps. Once root is achieved I think some simple tweaks will unleash its true abilities but I think I would go with the honor 5x or wait for the 6x. 5x already has a community behind it and I miss rooting.

Are your sure you have the 3gb RAM version and not the 2? I ordered mine from the UK to get the 3gb version. I have no idea where your located, on mobile.
OP, tours sounds like a perfect device for your use. Same reason i bought one for my wife.

Like I said I have the galaxy light. Dual core processor, 8 gigs of onboard storage before the ROM, and only one gig of ram. Ha when I use maps it takes 5 minutes just for the app to open so a second to register won't be a problem. I always use Google now launcher which seems to improve speed most of the time.

Also it sounds like you have the idol 4S not just the idol 4?

beware, the cricket variant can't be root (you can't flash twrp) at this time.

I did see that. There is hope though since its still a newish phone. Cricket keeps dropping the price on it so that may lure people in with the specs it has.

There is a lot of dis-information regarding the variants of this phone. A lot of people are saying its wonderful but a lot of posts from people using different versions of it.
That and I noticed that they plan to muddy it even more with a 'mini' version and a 'pro' version.
So it gets even more confusing. The cricket version may or may not have 2gb, but its supposed to have 3gb. The cricket version also has an older Snapdragon 617 which according to the mfg wasn't even used in this phone.
You know what I am thinking? this is a re-balled idol 3.
Correct me if my suspicion is wrong.

I'm not sure on the specs of the idol 3 so I cannot comment on that. I'm getting mine tomorrow from cricket so I will be able to give exact specs of the phone.

Thanks for the offer but I already bought one

I have the Cricket variant of the Alcatel Idol 4. It is the 6055U, which is the 2GB version. I really like the phone with the exception of the vibrate motor. I find it to be very weak. I can't even feel the vibration when the phone is in my front pocket and a call is coming in.
