Need help samsung galaxy s proximity sensor not working

I need help with identifying the problem why my proximity sensor isnt working. This gets annoying because my phone turns the screen off when making a call and you can turn it back on since it thinks something is all the time in front of it. Is it maybe dust? On which side is the sensor located? Is there any software update for a proximity sensor?

If I type in *#*#0588#*#* that runs the proximity sensor test. The screeen goes green, vibrates and stays on 1 all the time( doesnt flick between 1 and 0 if I i move it). What can I do?

I've got a problem with mine aswell. It is always 0 in the test (it can't sense if i put anything over it).
It use to work but suddenly sort of died. I'm not sure what the problem is too but I would like a fix if anyone can come up with one
Funny thing though, my proximity sensor worked fine for 1 call this afternoon, but failed again soon after. :/

Looks like this is one big riddle for the samsung galaxy users. :/

I made a discovery.. If i shone a bright light on my sensor and held it really close to it (like 0.5-1cm away) then the proximity sensor would react and say something is covering it. Only works with a bright light though :/

How bright is that light? May I ask you what are the other 3 values of your sensors?

hmm it was the flash from my digital camera. I think any decent light would work. Try a torch, if that doesn't work try something a bit brighter.
As for the values, which 3 values do u mean?? sorry

Light, magnetic, accelerometer.

oh, the values for accelerometer work fine, the xyz values react as they should when i move the phone.
Light sensor goes as high as 15000 lux when I shine the light on it.
Magnet sensor: 2 and the xyz change and react as they should. same with Azimuth Pitch and Roll.
As for the rom, I'm on darky's 10.1 Extreme Edition

As I thought my light sensor is also faulty. It goes only from 0-22lux

I don't know if this helps, I had a similar problem.. After i made a call my screen would not auto turn back on for me to disconnect the call.
It may have been coincidence, but after i disconnected "Increase volume in pocket", everything started working properly again.

Sorry, I should had given this information. This happened on a S4 (I9505) android version 4.2.2.
I don't know if this particular phone has the same menus has mine, but its how i solved my problem.

Having this issue too.
Nothing mentioned so far has worked for me.
Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 on VZW running 4.2.2.
Unfortunately I don't know when it started so I can't pinpoint any apps as possible triggers. However I have tried out all sorts of apps status bar apps, active notifications apps, launchers (Apex is my current now)

Proximity sensor problem

Hi!
Since week or few days more i've started to have problem with proximity sensor during calls. After covering the sensor it doenst turn off the screen. After timeout the screen is black, but after uncovering the sensor it doent wake up the screen.
I use the latest Galnet Miui weekly, and in factory test on miui the proximity sensor works perfectly. I dont know what to do to fixed that.
any ideas?

Problem with proximity sensor stuck at max value

Hi all,
I noticed that my proximity sensor isn't functioning. In fact when I call the screen remains active even if I put my hand over the sensor. I used CM10 so I reflashed stock GB ROM and it still does the same. If I use the *#0588# test I always get "Proximity: 1" value. It seems like my proximity sensor isn't working but my light sensor does. What could be the problem here?
I also tried cleaning the screen, lifting the protective plastic but no way, it still doesn't work. Also I dismounted the Galaxy S, tried to blow some air with a compressor, tried to clean the inner surface but no luck...

I've buyed a new one but nothing changes, do you have my same problem? Proximity sensor stuck at 5.0 cm?

Screen doesn't unlock, black screen

-Hi. I have an issue with the screen since I updated to last global developer ROM 8.5.10. Once I push the power button to lock the device, or if the screen goes to inactive mode after 30 seconds, then it's impossible to unlock. The buttons (menu and back) are lighting, and the screen blinks with my wallpaper (it's like a flash). If I use the fingerprint, I hear the unlocking sound. Then, if I push power button, I hear the locking sound, but screen is black.
If I receive a call, and proximity sensor is activated for calls, screen goes to black (ok) but then doesn't turn on again anymore.
I thought it was the ROM, but now I'm not sure. I comment you what I tried:
I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP 3.2.1.1, did wipes, formatted data, flashed ROM 8.5.10 and 8.4.19 with miflashtool.... but the device continues with issues.
I re-calibrated the proximity sensor. In the Engineer mode, the test give me values from 0 to 5 (normal values, so proximity sensor seems to be ok)
Someone else faced this issue? HW or SW issue?

The problem its the light sensor, Disable automatic brightness.

Tested light sensor in engineer Mode. Light sensor is ok.
Disabled automatic brightness, but the issue continúes.
I'm in 8.4.19, which worked ok for me before update.... but now is failing too....

proximity sensor need calibration
in miui i know how is done but in the other roms i dont know

proximity sensor calibrated too. It gives me values from 0 to 5 (normal).
Once calibrated, there is another value set to "87" (I supose it's the calibration value). Sometimes, when I calibrate it, the value varies from 72 to 97... I supose it depends on my test (and how I cover and uncover the sensor ).
Not solved... :crying:

More info: In recovery mode, screen works as expected locking and unlocking when I push power button. Also, if the phone is off and charging, it's working well too, It shows the battery charge level.
Those things make me think: maybe software issue?
I've flashed some global and developer ROMs with MIUI 7, 8 and 9, but issue continues.

Question Proximity sensor issue

Hi all,
I am facing serious issue on my redmi note 10 pro,
Whenever i make a call the proximity sensor ( idk whether it really has one or not) works fine and when i have to hang up the call my screen doesn't turn on . It goes all Black, no response from the buttons or fingerprint sensor ,
i sometimes need to force restart the device.
If anyone could help will be thankful.

I am having the same Problem here.

Try changing always on display theme or try disabling always on display completely. Doing that solved my issue.
