Quick Charge 2.0 Notification - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got a Quick Charge 2.0 certified charger made by Tronsmart, the WC1Q. I plugged it into my phone but there seems to be no notification for fast, quick or turbo charging. Is this how this phone works because I tried it on someone's Note 5 and it did display Turbo charging when the adapter was plugged in.
The charger itself seems of average build quality and it has 'made in china' written on it. But since it did show up as a turbo charger on the Note 5 I want to figure out a way to be sure the charger is fine and that the Moto X 2014 just doesn't show any specific quick charge notification.

Well, I am using the same charger and it does shows the 'Turbo Power Connected' notification when plugged in my X 2014. I am on Stock Marshmallow on XT1096(running XT1095 rom).

Thanks for your reply hamzaalijoiyah.
Interesting, I suppose this has something to do with Lollipop then? Since I'm on Stock 5.1. I have an XT1097 (Sprint).
Where did you get the charger from? Can you show me pictures of the box it came in and the actual charger. I want to see if mine is at least the real thing.
Btw, how 'fast' is it in real world terms? Do you use it much?

Sure I will just get back to you in a while with all details.

I got it from a local Online merchandise, link here
Real world performance is great. Charges the phone pretty fast, though phone also tends to heat quite much. It came in a white Standard sized box, though I am afraid that I have lost the box. But here are some pictures of charger itself:

I got it from Allmytech as well. So that eliminates the charger being a fake. Got it in a white box as well. (I do doubt if this is a recertified product or first copy or something). In amy case, it must be Marshmallow that supports the quick charge notification unless anyone else can confirm this. Thanks once again for your help.
(I'm still working my way to a low battery so that I can try charging the phone and see how quick it charges even without the notification)

So my phone finally discharged down to 16% and I started charging it using the Tronsmart 1 Port Quick Charge 2.0 Adapter.
The phone charged to 100% completely in a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes. I used it a bit during charging but most of the time it was left on just sitting there with 3G and wifi disabled. As fast charging works it did turbo charge the first 60% really fast. In half an hour it was up at 61% and in 15 minutes it came up to about ~32%. I will try this again tomorrow morning when my battery should be drained, it seems like ever since I got the charger the battery life has gotten better
Hamzaalijoiyah let me know how fast your phone charges.

Btw, the phone did not heat up even slightly during charging.

Mine charges in roughly the same time, though I never payed much attention to the charging time. But it does gets heated, though not alarming hot, but I can feel the difference.

I bought my XT1097 here in Brazil July 2015 and it came with Motorola Turbo Charger and I got a 2nd charger, the same in the question: Tronsmart QC2.0 from Aliexpress and it works as well. I'm at MM 6.0.
To be sure, try to download some apps that show the actual charging current, like AMPERE (link here).
As you may already know, when your battery is low, the QuickCharge puts a lot of juice really fast and it slowly reduces the speed when battery is getting full. Under 40% of battery is normal the ampere app to show about 2300mAh. It qualifies that QC2.0 is working fine!
That's it! I hope you have understood me... sorry about my english!

So I've been using the charger when I need a quick charge in the morning before I head out to work and its working great. Does heat up when it feels like it but again not 'alarmingly hot'. I checked the current using the Ampere app and it's pumping the correct amount i.e. ~2000ma. The charger checks out, it's working great. 60% battery in 30 mins as it should. And there is no "Quick Charge" notification on Lollipop for the XT1097.

Nice then!
It should be a Lollipop "Issue" cause in Marshmallow the TurboPower notification pops up right after you plug the cord!

[Q] Q 2.0 charger

Glad Tidings!
It is my understanding that, with standard 5 volt chargers, in general a high voltage charger is preferable because the device takes only what it needs. I am curious what the thoughts are concerning the Qualcomm 2. 0 technology, and if the consensus is that the same holds true for those devices.
The reason for my question, is that I purchased a Qualcomm 2.0 charger that puts out 25 percent more power across the board than the stock droid turbo charger. Should I be worried, or just let her rip on my new Droid turbo?
The stock charger has the 2.0 technology as well. Which did you purchase that puts out 25% more?
From Motorola's website:
Our fastest charger ever — incorporates Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 2.0*
Link:
http://www.motorola.com/us/accesso...Turbo-Charger/motorola-turbo-charger-pdp.html
No worries, the phone is measuring battery temperature and other variables continuously while on charge and it will adjust the charge accordingly, when done it will stop charging altogether. This is also why if the battery is completely dead it wont quick charge until it picks up a little battery, quick charge has to be enabled by the phone and the phone cant enable it when it is dead. Just an fyi...
Thanks krabman!
Great explanation, leaves me even more impressed with this phone! I have been just a bit concerned about heat, as the temperature gets up to 111 or so. Good to know I needn't be too worried.
C, the charger I bought is a Tenergy. It puts out 18 watts at the two Qualcomm 2.0 configurations, and even cranks out 10 watts at the standard 5 volts. It's actually a pretty cool charger, the indicator light glows blue for standard charge, but changes to green when it is charging a Q 2 device.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays everyone!
I have gotten the phone yesterday to 135F and I could be baking cookies on it ahahaha. Reason why it was so hot was because I was downloading movies on my phone and charging with turbo charger. But at 135F I got a warning saying temperature above normal. Once I disconnected the phone it went to 132 F and got new notification saying temp back to normal. So my guess is that the battery can take some serious heat.
My phone gets hotter than usual when I'm using a Qi wireless charger.
woke up today and my phone was at 48°C. It's hot as hell here, tho. 31°C right now...

Yeah, man! I wasnt expecting that high temps. My phone was charging, but during the night I turn everything off, so it doesn't wake me up.
I really don't wanna try doing high usage tasks while charging...
I've had a couple phones with a version of the quick charge feature and they all got hot while charging, the Find 7 can get uncomfortable to hold if you are charging while surfing as an example. With any of them taking charge at idle they got warm but I wouldn't say hot. I am curious about having a high temp on a wireless charger though, I wouldn't have expected it. The N5 was my last phone capable of wireless charge and I don't recall it getting anything more than slightly warm. I'm not sure if it makes any difference but I had the Qi charger google sold, it was fairly slow charging.
same here

[Q] Slow charge?

I'm using the "fast charger" that comes with the phone, but it seem to charge slower than I predicted. It says 1 hour until full charge when they phone is at 55%.
Is this right?
did you use the cable that come with the phone?
not all microusb cable can do fast charge.

Yes. I'm using everthing that comes with it.
The next question is.... were you messing with the phone while it gave you that estimated 1 hour left to fully charged? If you have the screen on and doing a lot of crap with it, of course it will take longer (this may be obvious to some, I'm not trying to insult you if you didn't know this, just stating the fact)
My experience with it went like this yesterday - note that I haven't even unpacked the factory charger, was using the Motorola Turbo Charger for this "experiment"
0% (phone died over night off charger to make this test)
30 mins on Turbo Charger - 45%
1 hour on Turbo Charger - 85%
Had to take it off to go to work, but those are some great numbers for a charger not necessarily designed for this phone, but the device was in Fast Charging mode the whole time, of course, so it was comparative
Is there some way to turn on fast charge? Because 6hours to fully charge or even charge a lot I don't have.

Use the fast charger that came with it or the Turbo Charger and it comes on automatically, 6 hours was with me using wireless charging which is always going to be slower than any wired 2+ amp charger will do

Lol I plugged into the the stock charger from the box and it said 6hrs to charge (from 0) switched outlet just incase that outlet was wonky but same result. The I said screw it and just figured I use to wireless charger so at least the phone would be near me, low and behold it says 3hrs (from 0). So apparently wireless is the way to go.

You must have had something else going on with the phone for it to say 6 hours on the factory charger....... I don't remember what mine said because I plugged it in, powered it on, and started watching the clock in the kitchen, turning on the phone screen only to check battery levels at those specific intervals I stated! I didn't even touch the device to start anything when I started this experiment, so it wasn't running any apps other than Android system level stuff, but no, wireless definitely isn't going to be faster, despite what the estimated timer said on the phone!

Well it's charging super quick compared to that factory charger. On the factory charger (plugged in right after phone died) went from 0 to 5 percent in about 25 minutes. on the wireless charger right now its gone from 5 to 16 in under 20 minutes. more than twice as fast.
Aslo, I am using the new Samsung wireless charger that is supposed to support fast charging.
**EDIT**
It charges even faster if I plug it directly into the cable for the wireless charger. Now it says 1hr29mn instead of 2hrs.

Make sure the cable is plugged all the way in to the charging brick. If it's not plugged in all the way, even a few mm, it will charge much slower.

Which charger to use with Nexus 6? (no quickcharge)

Which charger to use? (no quickcharge)
I bought a Samsung charger for my upcoming Nexus 6, i don't want to use the quick charger that comes with the phone. I am starting to suspect that this one is also a quick charger, can anyone look at the attached pictures and tell me? Also if it isn't a quick charger i would like to use it for the long run so my second question is would my battery be affected because of what says on the back of the box that i highlighted? In the highlight are also the specs of the charger, can someone clear this up for me?
EDIT: I cannot post pictures on the forum just yet, so here are the specs
10W Samsung travel adapter, Input 100-240VAC 50-60Hz, Output 5.0VDC 2A
Use only with compatible Samsung devices

I want to use the phone for a couple of years and don't want to shorten the battery life and also have the risk of inflating battery and everything that comes with it. What kind of charger should i buy to charge it in some "normal" time? The salesman in Samsung store told me this one charges Note 4, Galaxy S5 - which is why i bought it - the S5 doesn't have the quickcharge tech so i instantly thought it was an ordinary charger. On the other hand, my Galaxy Nexus official charger is rated for 1.0 A which surely isn't strong enough to charge the 6 properly so i am confused with what kind of a charger and with what ratings should i get? Thank you in advance.

2amps isn't going to shorten the life below 2 years. Higher amps only shorten life if they are above battery tolerances, which 2 amps is not.
Anyway, you'll want a 1 or 1.2 amp charger for slow charging

He wants slow charging. So charging through laptop / pc will be fine.
Charge cspacity of usb ports is 500 mA (900 mA for USB 3.0), that's good for slow charging.
Also 1-dollar charger from eBay will be fine.

Nope. So the only thing that will change is his phone will take longer to charge.
That said for me, turbo charge stopped working and I'm very annoyed.
Google have first sent me a new charger which still hasn't arrived. Though I think the issue is the phone. But I wanted to avoid a refurb as long as possible. Can't live without turbo charge now.
I have this charger, http://www.walmart.com/ip/Belkin-F8J031TT04-BLK-Micro-Wall-car-Chrg-Kit-2.1a-10w-W-4ft/40457559, but i got just the charger for $20. It most definitely doesnt turbo charge, it takes atleast 2 hours, so id say its a "normal" charge for this phone and i think its better than the turbo charger, because it doesnt get hot and its still decently fast

The turbo output is only supplied on turbo enabled devices. So there is something wrong with switching to turbo modes 9 V and/or 12 V
I am curious what is the cause of this issue.
Did you try an 'charge app' like Ultra Fast Charger.?

I think its a usb port issue myself.
I don't know what a charge app is. I am monitoring my input though. I know the issue is not software as it just stopped working one day last weekend with no software changes.
Actually,.could even be the battery as.my wireless charger is very slow now too.

There are some apps in the play store claiming to boost the battery charge.
When wireless charging is also slow, than it could be indeed the battery.
Maybe a complete discharging ?
BTW
Turbo mode is only active when the battery is less than 75% charged.

You should use a 5 Volt 2 Amp charger, those chargers are the one's that most phones use. Most new phones are using Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0, which you should use but if you are not comftorable then the 5 Volt 2 Amp will work good.
Errr, QuickCharge will in fact degrade a battery faster, it's still used because most phones only have a 2 year lifespan.
A non QuickCharger will also make it run less hot while charging and also be less likely to cause cell expansion. Not sure why there's so many people denying this.
EDIT:
Including some sources:
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/04/150414094117.htm
Please don't tell him that it won't degrade his battery when it definitely will. It's basic chemistry.
To OP:
Any regular non Quick USB charger of reputable make will do fine. I use an older HTC charger. Don't get a super cheap offbrand one as it probably has fluctuating voltage which will also damage your battery.

Actually you've misread (or not read fully). No one disputes the science. That article isn't accurate. All it says is "too quickly" and if you read what I have said, is that the turbo charger is within acceptable tolerances. I.E. It is not "too quickly"

I think you're not understanding the basic chemistry. More heat = more degradation of the Li-ion battery, regardless of tolerances. A lower power charge will always degrade the battery slower. This isn't about tolerances.

Fast charge seems broken after flashing Marshmallow (MRA58K)

Just like the title says, after flashing Android 6.0 using the Factory Image files, I notice that quick charge doesn't seem to be functioning any longer. Charges very slow, like plugging into an older USB port. Anybody else notice this or know of a fix?
That's very odd, I asked about fast charge on here before and was told that it wasn't software based at all, that it was purely hardware, the fast charger connects with your CPU and they make the fast charge happen. As far as I've been told, it's not software based. I could be wrong though. I flashed the image today too, and the fast charge does seem to still be working for me.

Turbo, if less than a certain % battery (Cant remember what, less than 70% maybe?) Ampere should show the word "TURBO" and be delivering about 2000 mAh. As the phone gets fuller, it will drop out of turbo mode so choose a battery % of around 50% to test with to be safe.
As to how to Identify it, I don't know. Trial and error. I tried multiple cables, because it worked one day then just didn't any more. I thought it was probably the phone but a chance it was the charger. I contacted Google, who offered me a refurbished unit without a charger. I told them that was pointless on the small chance it was the charger. They said they'd give me £10 to buy a new one from Play. They're £25 on play, so I told them that and they sent me the rest of the money. I bought the charger and to my surprise it fixed the issue.

I bought the charger and to my surprise it fixed the issue.

unfortunately as i said it used to work fine for one month after i bought the nexus, now it takes almost 2.30 hrs to charge from 10% , i have tried different cables with no change in charging patterns
The only thing I can think of is kernel? Try Leankernel cause it's working for me. I hope Google isn't going the apple route by breaking things so you have to upgrade...

Yes, mine worked fine too, then stopped. .if you've changed cables, all you can do is.contact Google / Moto for.warranty and try a new charger.

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the LG V20 can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I use Ampere to see the rate I am getting. First plug in might only be 90 mah. I unplug, replug, it jumps up to 350. A couple more times and I end up at 900-1200. Screen off and let it fast charge.
I recently tried out the HTC Bolt for a couple weeks and it seemed to charge much faster than my V20. Shouldn't it be the other way around since the Bolt uses quick charging 2.0 while the V20 uses Quick charging 3.0?
Slowest charging phone i ever owned but i still love it lol
My H910 charges relatively quickly. Just plugged it into a quickcharge 2.0, not 3.0 car charger and it went from 16% to 50% in ~25 minutes.
I regularly get rates of 1.8A or greater using a CHOETECH or Anker charger. One its above 80%, it drops down, but this is normal.
The Anker is QC3.0 and the CHOETECH are QC2.0

agree, LOL
even my old G2 get 50% battery in half an hour.
what's with V20?
it uses QC 3.0, but charge slower.
I use original V20 charger, and when charging the status is "quick charging.."
it takes 2 hours from 27% to 100%
:sad

looks like something really wrong with your phone. My phone usually takes about 75 mins to charge from 0% to 100%

maybe, but it looks like not just me though.
and btw, my LG G2 can do full charge in 1 hour and 20 mins (80 minutes), and it's not even QC 3.0
I read somewhere in gsmarena, QC 3.0 should charge to 80% in 30 mins

not sure about G2. I've never had one.
QC 3.0 might be able to do it technically, but I've never seen a phone that fast in charging yet. Not even the OP3T which every body is saying quickest in charging.

Hmm.. okay.
How about your G Flex2? how long it would take to charge to 100%?
G Flex2's battery 3000mAh, right? Same as G2

That grandpa tooks around 2+ hrs to get full charge
But to be fair with the phone, I've never used the original charger of G Flex 2 to charge. I either used my old chargers from previous phones or I plugged it into my laptop to charge it. Let me find the original charger and try it when i get back home
Great
Very fast charge
Delete please.
I have absolutely no complaints with the charging speed. Also, I rarely drop below 40%.
My battery takes forever to charge up!
I just bought a VS995 Verizon Unlocked off the net. Was classified as "almost new - open box", hope I did NOT get a unit with problems. Re-charged it now a total of 5 times and on average (plus or minus 3-5 minutes) it takes approx. 3 hours and 18 minutes. for a full charge 0% to 100% . A few thoughts and questions came to mind while reading all your excellent posts:
1.) I believe he must of lost his quick charger because the one he gave me seems like he bought it off the net. Standard USB charger. So probably not using the quick charge function feature of this phone correct?
2.) Can I goto an electronics store and just copy whatever voltage and amps I need to perform a quick charge? Can someone please POST what the voltages and amps needed for a quick charge 3.0 please.
3.) Anyone have a bad battery or have one go bad after using the wrong charging devices? I was thinking of ordering a new battery BUT they are a little pricey. Anyone know some good outlets to buy them at a fair price?
4.) Does rooting the device and putting one of the ROM's on their cell solve anyone's battery problem? If so which ROM do you recommend?
Overall that is my only gripe about the phone. I love the DAC and for all you music lovers out there try Sirius XM on the LG-V20 and make sure to use Hi-Fi made headphones. I bought myself Bowers and Wilkens P7's, sort of pricey but worth it to me. The other thing is Napster as well the songs you download sound awesome with this DAC. For both of these APPS make sure you go into settings and adjust the quality of the downloads and streaming. Otherwise you could be listening to it with poor quality settings from the get go.
Ok well I appreciate any help or advice on my battery situation!
Thanks in advance to anyone helping me out.

Any charger that says Quick Charge 3.0 would work. I think even QC 2.0 would charge at the same speed, but just less energy efficient.
The difference between qc 2 and 3 is 3 has a variable voltage allowing it to use energy more efficiently.
Excess energy is lost as heat on qc2, the power is reduced in qc3 when the battery starts to get full.
The charge time is the same.
Specs for QC 2 is 5V / 9V/ 12V, specs for QC 3 is
3.2v - 20v dynamic
