Xiaomi mi5 malware - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

Hello there,
I recently order mi5 from an eu reseller. They said device will have pre installed Google play. However, I watched a review saying that most phones come with Chinese os which contains malware thus it is not safe to use.
My question is, hiw can I find this out and if this is the case what should I do to remove them?
Thank you in advance,
Tom

I wish you will receive your upcoming MI5 with vendor modified ROM and certainly you should be able to flash China stable, development and there are a forbidden Global ROM 7.2.4.0 !

Thank you for your reply.
So, which ROM is the bad one that needs to be changed and how do I find out?

You can check your rom in the device settings, and if it's not exactly what you expect then you should flash an official one. But really, if there is any malware, that's reason enough to flash another one.

I'm about to receive my mi5 and i don't know if it's come from xiaomi direct or from a reseller because I'm buying it second hand but the unit is brand new so how do I tell if it will have the malware? And how do I flash and install new global rom?

I can't say that much, but I basically went off the premise that if you can notice the malware then flash another rom and otherwise you're fine. I got mine from gearbest.com and didn't flash a new one until CM13. You might be able to remove the malware with something else but i don't really know

Hmm well the guy said he brought it direct drom xiaomi and the phone box is still sealed and everything so I would assume it wouldn't have malware on it.
Should see it in a couple of days so will let you know how it goes

At my side, the version seems to be the same as the global version, compared to one in settings, but there still is one malware app in it, com.android.comp.download.mgrv11, which has Android/Deng2.JQI in it and it's built in (system app). It seems that all that has to be done is to disable it in settings.

I got mine from eGlobal, it came flashed with Google Play Store and also some rather annoying system apps (CM Security and something else) that I couldn't uninstall. Also as it was a hacked firmware, I couldn't do OTA updates. Ended up flashing stable Chinese ROM and unlocking the bootloader then flashing Global ROM. Will be switching over to CM13 once I get time to work out what's needed.

How much do you guys score on antunu?

OTA. Coming. With root proof kernel

I was just told by a friend of mine who's father works for Samsung that the OTA coming out for our phone has a root proof kernel. He said stay away. . I don't know why Samsung would do that . I'm waiting to find out more.

This should be no problem as you can just flash a Stock kernel. Or the newer kernels can be made to remove this likely. Either way, since we can flash kernels, we should be ok.
its true... look at the tmobile forum.. alot of members took this update and can no longer root..
# Samsung Rooting Restriction Feature
#
CONFIG_SEC_RESTRICT_ROOTING=y
CONFIG_SEC_RESTRICT_SETUID=y
CONFIG_SEC_RESTRICT_FORK=y
CONFIG_SEC_RESTRICT_ROOTING_LOG=y
... im sure there will be a work around this..

Ya I don't know If it has to do with sprint. They've been talking about this for a while over in the original international s4 forum.
a permanent solution is being worked on, til its available if you want root you will have newest rom and stock kernel. thats all (until kernel source is released )
I already OTA updated. Sprint better not pull any shenanigans

Just a heads up from the tmobile forum, newest firmware + stock kernel = wifi issues and app issues. newest firmware + newest kernel = no root. Obviously this is just tmobile users reporting, but I would have to think it would be similar for us. If you don't like the update, about 95% sure you can odin back to stock firmware without any issue. I personally will wait till source drops and a work around is in place.
On a brighter note, most/all people who have taken the plunge and updated, are reporting performance increases in transitions. Here's to hoping the occasional stutter/lag is gone!
I'm going to put this here as I did in the 2 other ota threads.. would someone please grab a log of the link (or grab the download prior to try to install) if they are getting propmted so we can get this to look at?
A bunch of people talking about it, no one trying to get it?
Update zip posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2269426
This update got rid of my red hue on black backgrounds.
However, it added the purple blur issue
It also made it a lot smoother. I don't have to mess with my developer animation settings anymore

With the new update and Samsung new feature to prevent root S4 needs a new "Root Keeper Kernel" with those new features disabled.
Edit:
It's Already done.

Looks like there's still work to do to fix the notification that it's rooted. I'll wait a few days before flashing and rooting like crazy.

New to Atrix HD, Please guide

Hi there,
Ok so I just bought this device in dirt cheap. Its Atrix HD MB886 AT&T running on stock 4.1.1
So I have a couple of problems with this device. For the past few weeks I have been running it on completely stock rom, however I've rooted and unlocked the bootloader. It lags a lot. From homescreen if you just swipe to the left to go in quick settings menu it stutters a bit. It stutters sometimes in the app drawer as well. Someone told me that its stock launcher is laggy so I installed Nova Launcher and it was fine for a week or so then same things started to happen. I've just installed apps like facebook messenger, Twitter, Instagram, Whatsapp, Viber and 1 or 2 very light games and my free ram is around 100mb. I've factory resetted the phone countless times and regularly clear the system cache but the problem still persists. So my question is, If I install custom roms on this device will my experience get any better or will it be the same. Thanks please reply
Have you debloated it?

Short answer: Yes, your experience will definitely get better.
But realize that you're living on the edge and there may be random things that may/not work, so you need to get involved with the forums to troubleshoot errors, or wait it out and hope that later versions fix your problems. I'm running a recent building of CM11 with no issues. Battery isn't quite as good as stock, but overall I'm happy with it. Very snappy, no lag, and lots of customization. Enjoy.

No I haven't. I will eventually get rid of bloatware but I wanted to try the phone with it.

Thanks. Can you link me which rom you're using? There are so many roms here and I'm kinda confused which one to go for.

It's in my sig. Currently using Epinter's build of CM11, specifically because it works with the older JB bootloaders (like on the Atrix HD). When this phone officially gets KitKat from Motorola, we won't need the special build anymore, and can just go back to using any msm8960 unified ROM.
I would recommend you to use CM 10.2....it is stupidly awesome and it has the best battery life ever..
Please help Me.

Do you have an unlocked bootloader? If not, you cannot flash stock ICS if your phone has stock JB. With an unlocked bootloader, you can install stock ICS.
You are getting the error because you didn't edit or properly edit the XML file in the ROM.

Xiaomi MI3 Won't update

Hello guys,
A few months ago I bought my MI3 and now I want to install MIUI v6.
I've tried anything to get the newest OS for my phone but it just won't work.
When I ask someone what I'd do they say to follow this. thread-11047-1-1(can't post outside link but its on the official miui site)
But the flashing tool doesn't recognise my phone, and when I try to update it through recovery mode the update fails.
Although I think I do now the problem...
When I bought my phone from To2c.com I checked that they'd install the multilanguage ROM, so they did.
I don't know but I read somewhere that it has to do whit that dealers install multilanguage ROMS on it, am I right?
Because when I just want to open the updater app it force closes.
Another problem I have is that my phone sometimes randomly restarts and it sometimes takes longer than 10min.
Are these 2 problems in common and can I fix them?
I hope someone could tell me what to do about it because I'm tired of it.
PS: MIUI v6 would be fine but if it's possible I want to install android l stock, is there a STABLE version?
Install cpu-z, run it, get a screenshot of the results and post them up.
Thanks.
Wow, so much questions in a single question. Keep calm bro.

Fake Samsung Galaxy Note 5

So I recently bought a note 5 thought it was real then notice it was a fake note 5. My question is can you install a custom rom on it? I already got it rooted but I'm having problems install twrp or any other recovery software. I have no use for the phone I just want to experiment with roms etc on the phone.
What is a fake? Please show us some detailed pictures
Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk
The phone is a counterfeit phone which is made in china. It's not a real phone made by samsung. I'm trying to install a custom rom but when I do i just reboots and never goes into recovery.
if it's a fake phone then you have to find the rom compatible for it and not use a custom rom made for the real one.

Yes you can but you will need to find fake custom rom to install on this phone. ??

Android 10 stock/custom issues

Hi guys, I've faced some issues in the last 3 weeks. First of all, I was on Stock Pie rooted with magisk. After a random restart my phone went to boot loop and I went back to stock, relocked bootloader and tried to update. First Issue: step 2 of upgrading stock kept failing. Due to this inconvenience I decided to re-unlock bootloader and install a custom rom. The first was the pixel experience, and I was very enthusiastic of it, it was perfect. Suddenly the pe got removed from the site and the release suspended. So I tried 3 custom ROMs 10based, the first was havoc and it didn't work very well for me, presenting various bugs. So I tried Lineage 17.1 and I got a very strange battery drain and issues with system app conflicting with gapps. Now I'm on derpfest, sometimes it's a liiiittle laggy, but still good. BUT my banking app doesn't work and I really need it. So, here is the question: Which rom would you suggest me? I'd like it to have these features:
•Stable for a daily run
•Able to run banking app
•No preinstalled system apps as phone, contacts, etc. (I prefer gapps for this)
•10 based
•Good battery life (nothing exceptional, just like stock)
Instead of a custom rom, I would accept to back stock if there is a way to receive OTA update.
Thank you all for your help and forgive me if I wrote something wrong, I'm from Italy and my English is not so good.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I didn't install magisk on any of these ROMs.
havoc is bad on my device. crdroid and pe are good, crdroid have excellent and complete language support. i never flashed lineage 17.1, I will try it.Sorry my bad English.
Deep fest
What kind of bugs you had on Havoc? I'm using this since I rooted my phone, over a year ago, and works pretty well. I have done the following settings: formated the Data partition as f2fs, installed Magisk, installed OpenGApps nano, and a moded GCam by Parrot043 (version 7.2.014 because the latest has some bugs).
The problem you're having with your banking apps is not related to the ROM, recently Google has pushed a patch to SafetyNet which detects if you've got an unlocked bootloader, custom ROM or if you're rooted, to address this issue you need to install Magsik and use Magsik hide on you're banking apps, if that didn't work either you're gonna have to install a Magsik module called "MagiskHide Props Config" which will hopefully solve the issue. Remember it's not just you and it's happening for all people with custom ROMs or unlocked bootloaders. Also this is a temporary solution since we don't know how Google is going to enforce the newer patches to SafetyNet.
About ROM suggestion thing, DerpFest is pretty good. I was actually on DerpFest myself but then I reverted to stock since the device was overheating too much. Also give crDroid a go. But untill there's a better workaround for SafetyNet I suggest you to revert to stock.

I didn't know about that, so i thought it was a fault related to the rom, my apologies. Well, gave derp fest a try but I didn't enjoy it so much, so I went back to PE when i saw the unofficial topic. Now i'm running magisk to use hide feature on my banking app and everything is working great. Sometimes the settings autoclose, but is not too much annoying. Now I'm thinking to buy a mi note 9 pro max (when it will be released in Italy) and keep my Mi A2 as an emergency phone, so I wish to not having trouble during the waiting. Thank to you and to the other users for giving me help in this thread
