Is Dualshock 4 and Remote Play supported in newer Marshmallow Concept firmware? - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. I didn't see a question specifically on this, so I'm going to ask. Is the Dualshock 4 controller supported in newer versions of the Marshmallow Concept? I know it was not initially, but has it been added since? Also, I noticed that there is a separate PlayStation 4 Remote Play app in the Play Store. Is it possible to download this onto the Concept firmware even if it isn't included by default? And does this allow you to pair a Dualshock 4 with the phone? This and the other PlayStation related apps are really the only things I care about from Sony's normal firmware. Otherwise, the Concept seems to offer what I really want. Before I jump through the hassle of wiping everything and switching to the Concept firmware, it would be great to know if these features are at all supported. Thanks!

Nevermind. Looks like this got answered in another thread. Latest Concept doesn't support Dualshock 4 or Remote Play.

I didn't knew that MM wasnt compatible with ps4 remote play, but we can always hope for a good dev to mod the apk, like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/ps4-remote-play-android-thread-t3068225
no internet speed/root check etc.
Go ahead, download this mod, works with any android (i think)

Gamepads in 4.2?

So, I was curious about gamepads being connected to the Nexus 7.
I did a little research and found the sixaxis app, as well as usb/bt joystick center 6.
What I'm seeing is that there is a lot of commotion about not being able to use USB devices after the 4.2 update (which I'm on, but rooted and unlocked). Apparently the USB host is locked up tight in 4.2, for whatever reason.
Do any apps still work for using a controller as they did before? Is there a community made kernel or OS update that fixes this for the Nexus 7?
There's a ton of random complaining on the internet, about different devices not being able to use some of these apps recently, but I couldn't find any real info about what the real scoop is.
I'd mostly just like to connect a generic logitech game pad, or a pocket sized bluetooth keyboard, and use it for old NES emulated games, or some such. I don't really need anything fancy going on, but I've no idea if they work at all anymore, or what kind of app will do it after 4.2.

I think most of this is the cause from Google swapping Bluetooth stacks to a better one by it broke compatibility with apps that were wrote with the old stack in mind.
I'm not sure what the status is on this but it is just growing pains. Google isn't blocking or specifically dropping support. Just a newer stack and updates weren't as quick as people had hoped.
USB Host mode is built in to the latest Paranoid Android beta and he said it was pretty easy to get working.

I can't speak for the logitech game pad or the keyboard but sixaxis app (the one by Dancing Pixels) was updated recently and it works perfectly for me, as far as gamepads you can't go wrong with a standard PS3 controller.

Excellent news.
Thank you for summing it up!
It seems like a lot of people on the net are in the dark on this, so I'm glad to hear it's because Android moves at a (sometimes overly) fast pace and not because of a complete lock-down of sorts. I'll check out that ROM.

Is 360's wired pad only usb-gamepad which work with N7?
I finally got otg-cable and tried my two Logitech pc-pad(digital, and another with PS3-style sticks) but neither
one work in games. I can move in homescreen, but in games only "move"-work(digital/stick), but none of the
buttons work, they just doesn't do anything.
It is possible the games only detect the 360 controller. The only game I found that supported it natively was Sonic 4 Episode 2. I think it is the game that has to be able to detect/support it. I think there are some apps out there to assist with getting gamepads to work though.
i was thinking about the nyko game pad. ive seen some reviews of it . its pretty neat because it uses a bluetooth connection. im still not sure if nyko solves the riddle about this game pad stuff. can't help spending $30++ to bluetooth game pad that wont work as it was advertised..

Android TV Software

I know nothing about Android TV software, but I'm interested in buying an Ouya (already pre-ordered) for the sole purpose of installing Android and using it as an Android TV with gaming capabilities. This may seem like quite a stretch, I'm not sure.
Does Google share the source code for Android TV? Is anyone else interested in this or something similar?
Well, someone can try to port the Android TV Apps to Ouya, but we need the sources...
Hey ... i think about the same Project.
First of all we should wait if the first Ouya Devices shipped because i think at these time they will release the needing Sources.
If not we have "GPL Violation" .... so we should wait.
I will perfom the integrated "XBMC" with now support Live-TV in Combination with "tvheadend" Server but need help to get tvheadend compile and run under "Android-Kernel" (Tegra3). If some developer will help it would be great !!!
XBMC is already working on supporting OUYA so no worries there. It will probably be ready by the time OUYA consoles ship out.

I know it but for getting xbmc work like live tv you need server with Communication to your dvb device over USB. I actually test some dev porting and compiling of tvheadend server for Android Kernel but got some Problems because Most libs doesnt work .
I test actually with tegra 2 device so if first Version run its easier to port it to newer tegra parts !

I use my HDHomeRun on XBMC. It's natively supported with XBMC and it's a network streamer. You set up a list of your channels (takes a bit of work), then select which channel you want from a list. Get a HDHomeRun.
I been using a Rasp Pi....
Sort of related, I installed the YouTube for Google TV apk on my Ouya and it runs great. Works splendidly with a controller, and can still use my phone to control playback.
edit: sorry if this was a terrible grave-dig.

That's where I got it too.
For those that can't locate the APK cause it keeps being removed....see attached.

I guess there's no playback control other than backing out?

PS4 Controller

I was able to pair my PS4 Dual Shock to the phone but could not find any use for it.
Does anyone know any games that can use the controller?
Would be cool to play with it I feel like.
Any one? Google isn't helping at all and the few games I own that could benefit from a controller don't seem to work either.
i don't think you can do anything with it right now. they haven't pushed out the update in november for the ps4 that will actually support the remote play with the z3 series yet.
remote play is available with november updates of PS4 (and Z3 series i guess) and not sooner.
Try Bard's Tale or any GTA

Does anyone have PS4 Remote Play working on the N6?

Hey guys, been torn between the N6 and Z3v for awhile now. The draw to the Z3 for me is waterproofing and PS4 Remote Play. If I am sure I could get Remote Play on the N6 I think that is the way I would go.
I have seen the thread about porting the app to "any" device, but within that thread are countless posts about people not being able to get it working properly, many times not being able to get it to work over cell network which Z3 owners confirm their phone will do just fine (with a strong enough connection of course). So I am hoping someone here can confirm or point me in the direction where it is confirmed the N6 can run Remote Play, working over cell network.
Thanks
bump
I also would like to know if anyone has acomplished this.

Remote play for me is working. I still cannot get the controller to work though. I can use it fine using usb but cannot see the ps4 controller when in pairing for bluetooth. It worked fine on my n5 with kitkat but doesn't on my n6 with lollipop. I think it's a problem with lollipop.
Try seeing if you can pair it using the sixaxis app. You need root to use it. Running stock rooted it works fine for N6 for pairing PS3 controllers and it does support PS4 controllers (don't currently have a PS4)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller&hl=en
If this does work, would give me another reason to get a PS4.

I've already got sixaxis installed and tried that. I'm stock with elemental x kernel and already rooted. I'm going to try using the pc to pair it tonight rather than the otg cable and see if that works.
Update: I got the remote play and the ds4 controller both working now. Now I just have to get it working over lte. Anybody have any ideas at to which ports to open? I'm failing on NAT type.

Great. Can you post the steps you took to get it working and paired? I should be rooting this weekend and will try to help figure things out.

It was a problem with my controller and not the phone nor the sixaxis app. Just follow the directions in the app and use this controller map https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bzs38N5Ca5MFTTVzaXh1aFZHVUE/edit?usp=docslist_api
Where is the Remote Play app?

Do you need an app to mirror any Android devices to Chromecast?

I am thinking of releasing an app that can mirror any android devices (starting from Android 2.3 up to android 5.1) to Chromecast receiver.
Since google's Chromecast app can support quite a lot devices, I am not sure if there are still enough interests to mirror android devices with old versions?or to mirror new android devices that Chromecast app do not support?
I did develop such an app, but never released it to public, it's working quite well actually.
Please let me know if you are interested in it, and I can post free versions here.
Please , go ahead. and Let us have a look at it .

Hmm, is this being done somehow using the Miracast standard? Curious.

We will release a version that works on rooted devices first, just to check our native implementation for the chromecast mirroring protocol.
Yes, we also have a miracast receiver, more info will be revealed here.
Thanks for your patience on this app.
Is this still in the making? Really want to screen cast my mx3 android box to my Chromecast
@timdoggg, Yes, it's beging developed, and working very well, but right now, it requires rooting to get the audio. Can you tell me your Android version? why is google Chromecast app not working for your device?
I will try to post something in this thread late this month.

Have a rooted Nook HD+( on CM12.1 - lollipop 5.1 ) and chromecast 2015(new version). Regular casting works fine, but there is something preventing mirroring . When hitting casting selection the screen abruptly disconnects. I've tried a program called Mirrorenabler and it also will not mirror. A report by someone using CM11 and some custom rom reported mirroring working fine on Nook HD+ so its not a hardware issue. Does anyone have any thoughts ??
Thanks,
Al
In order for Chromecast app mirror to work, google play services must be installed into system partition. Your android most likely does not have it.
Our Chromecast sender app does not use Google play services, so it should work, please visit this thread later for the apk.
Hey,
I can also confirm that unfortunately on Nook HD+ on CM12.1 mirrorenabler doesn't work, nevertheless on cm11 latest built mirror enabler works great. But still both CM11 and CM12.1 for me are unstable, actually cm12.1 is worst for me getting a lot of download and apps installation slow down, on cm11 I get a lot of keyboard droppings when typing in the browser but gennerally the experience is a lot better.
So would love to test on stock (4.0.4) your app apparently with root.
Thanks

My CM12.1 on Nook HD+ is not as good as 5.01 that I previously had. If you get Trickster Mod ( to increase responsivness ) and increase read ahead buffer 768 and get Glove Xperia ( to adjust screen sensitivity if needed ) you might like CM12.1 better
Al
Is this still being developed?
