Black Screen and power button doesnt work after Camera Replacement - Moto X Q&A

Hello guys im kinda crazy about this
i have a moto x xt1058 and it had a bad camera so i bought the replacement and i open the phone carefully like the video and i did the replacement then when i started to reassemble it i connected the battery before connecting power and volume buttons to the phone so i connected them when my phone auto started and it booted well in android 5.1 stock when i put the battery, then i finish the reassembly but i realized that my buttons were not working so i connected my phone to adb and i put adb reboot then it boot normaly but only volume buttons were working, power button was not working. then i open it only to see the buttons flex and it was connected good and didnt damage it. so i rebooted again with adb and surpirse phone after logo shows a black screen, and only active display was showing, i connected to pc and didnt recognize nothing then the battery died and actually its charging. i cant boot to fastboot because i dont know why power button doesnt work
What Can i DO, please i cant take it to repair it is too expensive. it had all stock 5.1 with unlocked bootloader.
sorry for my english, isnt my first language.

I would let it die again or power it off as you can , remove the camera replacement, put buttons and then battery back, see if phone works again.

This is a hardware issue. Sounds like you damaged the cable to the power button even if you think you did not.

[Q] Xperia Z Wont turn un unless usb connected

Hello
Recently i've bought an broken screen Xperia Z, for repair it (i got it like $300 bucks cheaper) and i was ready to buy the screen, but i battery was drained and i could not test it right, when i connected to the charger, it started red light, vibrate, then 3 continuous vibes, read on the internet, OK BATTERY DRAINED, i left it charge THE WHOLE NIGHT, and when i woke up in the morning it was orange (charging), later in the day it was green (charged) but when i disconnect it, it wont turn on anyways, when i connect it to a pc, it goes blue light (wich later i read it was fastboot mode). i read for making a repair with PCC, but it didnt fixed it, then i flashed it with Flashtool, with the latest software (wich had the Sudden death issue fixed) no luck. it wont boot. for it to boot, i have to connect it to PC and with fastboot run "fastboot continue", but most of the time, it reboots and goes redlight and vibrate 3 times then reboot, so i press the power button and it enters fastboot mode (if connected to PC) or loads charging if connected to wall charger, but it reboots again and goes to redlight vibrate reboot, sometimes it stay charging or in fastboot mode, but only "works" if connected in the USB.
when it stays in fastboot, i do "fastboot continue" and it loads the OS, and it works (well, the things i can do with a broken LCD/Touchscreen, i put my sim card and could call it, and it works, but i cant pick up the call). i can explore the phone memory etc. but if it reboots or if i disconnect the USB, it will almost always turn off. i havn't found a solution (or idea) of what can happen, i dont know if its normal since it has broken lcd/touchscreen or it definitely have a huge problem,
any ideas?
thanks in advance!
Maybe the battery is damaged, and the phone knows it and boots into some sort of safe mode to spare internal damage? When the is has booted you can take screenshots with adb if you have usb debugging enabled. Maybe try see if the os says the battery is damaged?

Well, actually it doesnt seem the battery is damaged, fisically looks ok and it holds charge, i cant debug because usb debugging comes off by default when flash stock software.

Correct me if i am wrong but does the xperia z not support usg-otg and mhl? You could rig the phone up to the tv with a mhl-hdmi cable and maybe use a usb mouse to select things, and enable usb debugging?

Nice idea, now i need to find who in this country (DR) have that adapter
i ordered the LCD screen assembly for repair it myself, but im still concerned about this, as i dont know if it will boot up anyways
my phone right now isnt booting. but as i cant see images i dont know what is it showing.
i noticed the touch screen is working indeed. (when booted, it plays sounds when tapping)
i will wait till the lcd assembly arrives. any ways, any other ideas on what may happen?
the ex-owner of the phone said it started like that when it fell and broke the lcd.
OK now, i've installed the LCD, the phone works, its ON, BUT the Volume Up button and the Power Button does not work when the phone is ON,
the Vol UP button seems always be pressed cause when i press the power button for some seconds, the Phone restarts and not power off or lock/unlock
Service tests: None of these buttons where recognized.
any ideas on any hardware fixes i could try?
I FIXED IT!!
dissasembled the phone, took out the side button flex cable and the volume up button on the flex was dirty, so it was having a false contact. (wich made the button always be pressed)
I took out the yellow tape and cleaned with alcohol and a needle (its so freakin small) and put the tape again and assembled the phone and voila! IT WORKS OK!!
Yes the vol up button pressed means u get fastboot. Now that you fixed the problem and repaired the phone enjoy. Btw nice job getting it up and running.

Completely bricked Xperia Z

I was just playing around trying to move apps onto my new micro sd card. I rebooted several times. But suddenly when I rebooted one more time, the screen turned black. It was supposed to reboot into recovery (CWM). So I tried to turn it on again. Nothing happened. I also tried to press power button + vol up. Nothing happened. No light when charging either. I really really really need some help

Does your phone vibrate when you press power + vol up? Can you get it into flashmode?
If your pc recognizes the phone as qhsusb_dload or something like qloader it's hard bricked and there's nothing left you can do..

No flashing LED, no vibrating, nothing.
I'm afraid to say this but it seems your phone is hard bricked... Try to do a rubber band across it so that the power button and vol up buttons get pressed all the time and plug it into your wallcharger. If that doesn't help bring it to your local sony service centre and let them repair it although they will very likely charge of a service fee.
Good luck mate!

Thank you, I will try that. It is really weird, the last thing I did was pressing the restart in recovery button.
I bricked my phone while trying to unlock bootloader (didnt wait for the command prompt to complete the process) and later my pc was recognizing it as qhsusb_dload. But my volume buttons were working and I used the Sony update service to restore it.

It is very possible, frequent restarts eat away alot of battery, and you never know maybe it was on while you saw a black screen thinking it was off.

If you see a flashing blue light, when it is not plugged in, it's because the bootload was entered improperly and is in safe mode. The only way you can fix it, is to do a system wipe via Sony Companion and reinstall stock ROM. It's an Xperias way of bootlooping into a safe mode when it's locked.

Too bad Sony doesn't implement an ADB OTI. Otherwise you could flash ROMs even with factory lock and never brick it.
i am experiencing the same problem right now. hadn't touched the tablet in a couple weeks, i seem to remember turning it off because it was really low on battery and the charger wasn't near. now it is just a black rectangle.. LED never responds, charging doesn't do anything, doesn't show up on ADB or flashtool.
seems like it is some problem with the firmware or hardware since all the android devices i've owned have always charged (with the LED on) regardless of the condition of the software (hell my one x that busted open and the screen doesn't work still charges and hooks up to the computer)
i would love to get this fixed because sony tech support pretty much bent me over today.

Did you try external battery terminal dismount?
what is "external battery terminal dismount"?

Power Button & Volume buttons - broken.

So a couple days ago, my power button and volume button and even the camera button stopped working. I thought I'd bricked my phone! But once I got home, I put the charger in and the screen came on. I've been using Sony's "double tap to wake" option to use the phone.
BUT THEN, god damn battery runs out completely, I charged it and now because the power button isn't working, I can't turn the phone on.
Tried adb reboot, tried holding volume buttons, tried hard reset button under USB and microsd flap, nothing. Screen comes on when it's charging, the phone works perfectly (apart from buttons ofc)
Flashtool recognises the device when I plug it in, but I don't see any option to reboot the device since it's connected with debugging off.
Code:
01/035/2015 22:35:37 - INFO - Device disconnected
01/035/2015 22:35:56 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off
01/035/2015 22:35:56 - INFO - For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode
I haven't dropped the phone, it can't be water damage either since I'm paranoid and keep it away from water even though it's waterproof.
Help? Don't know whether to take it to Sony because I unlocked my bootloader :crying:

I'd have to boot the phone into flashmode and that requires power button and volume button...
Try to turn on Ultra stamina Mode and then turn that same mode Off.
Phone will reboot, after the reboot tell me how are your buttons.
I had the same problem this morning, never had it before. Then i thought, 99.9% of phone's problems are software related and solve themselves by a reboot or factory reset (i sell chinese smartphones for living..) and tried to reboot the phone. Power button for 8-10 secs did nothing (as expected, as buttons not working). Finally, i remembered that ultra stamina mode asks to reboot the phone. Did it and Voilá! phone is cool now
I'm still worried, but lets hope it doesnt happen again.

I think it can be some minimal adb envirtoment because USB debugging is present when Andorid is fully power up. But thats only my theory
I think your problem can be hardware related, so you should contact Sony/Your Operator for warranty repair. In my opinion unlocking bootloader does not void your warranty in this case , Sony only noticed about you may..so is worth to try .
Sony said:
Voiding the warranty
If you unlock the boot loader, you may void the warranty of your device and/or any warranty from your operator. See your device’s warranty statement for details. Additionally, due to the modified device software, Sony’s repair network will likely have to replace key components before it can properly test, repair and verify your device using our repair tools and software. Consequently, if Sony performs a warranty repair, Sony will likely charge you a significant service fee for the additional costs caused by your modification of the software.]

Yep I did spot that, but as a (broke) student I can't risk sending my phone for repair and then getting a big bill from Sony.
I will take it to a third-party repair shop in the near future.
I think they (Sony) should inform you before charging for repair and wait for agreement from your side. Call them and ask about it.
Best Regards.

btw I confirm they will need your approval before proceed with the repair out of warranty and charge you the costs, so I would try taking it to sony then if they want too much money just ask it back (you may be asked to pay just the shipping costs if they are going to send the phone somewhere for checks)

Red LED = dead battery. If you can't get it to charge in fastboot mode (just leave it plugged in for a day or two), then you'll need to disassemble the phone to either replace the battery or force it to charge - the latter of which is only if you know what you're doing (Li-ons like to catch fire and explode). You should obviously fix the power button while you're in there.
There is nothing else to be said about it.
Thanx xasbo...i already figured that out my self and opened up my phone and disconnected the battery from the motherboard and kept it away for sometime and went on for the power button...i tried everything but power button seems okay..it's not a hardware issue...so i reconnected the battery and left it charge for the whole evening and voila it turned itself on with56% of battery... ..anyway thank you all for supporting me... you guys are awesome..

iirc, the power button is run through one of the flex cables, they can tear very easily and sometimes it is difficult to see. the replacement flex is cheap, just a few bucks, might be worth trying.

Sounds like a pretty normal bootloop. Make sure you're flashing the right FTF for your specific C690x device. Start with a completely stock FTF and work up from there.

Are you trying to flash from recovery or fastboot? If the former, try the latter.
Or you can just send it into Sony for repair.
Don't blame the phone, though - you're the one that broke it. :good:
Red LED doesn't automatically mean dead battery. Reading the whole thread, You said (before opening the phone) that it would turn on own it's own, and turn back off. Your phone is soft bricked. It kept trying to boot up but since it's on a boot loop it would power on, get stuck, power off, then powers on again - hence called a boot loop. Boot loops can drain the battery which is why pressing the PWR+VOL UP was advised so you can power off the phone completely. By powering it off, you can then charge the phone up to 100% so you can work out the boot loop that you are on. I have no knowledge about actual hardware stuff like that of opening the phone, so I cannot comment on the power button that is broke. But one thing I can say is, it's easy to revive a soft bricked phone that doesn't have a broken power button. So this comment is basically me threading all the symptoms you have mentioned and explain it in the best manner I can. I have experienced lots of boot loops myself and have managed to revive my nasty Z1 which is why I am a little familiar with it's symptoms. I do hope you get the power button fixed so reviving your phone would be easy.

The device turns off - like turns off completely or it still reboots as if you are still stuck in a boot loop?

Screen is dead after disconnecting/reconnecting battery.

My phone went to an endless bootloop after a botched attempt to install TWRP. I tried hard pressing the power button to no avail, and I can't access fastboot either. That's why I removed the back cover and disconnected the flex cable from the battery on the phone's motherboard.
Later on, I reconnected my phone's battery after my shift ended, then I tried to flash my stock rom through SP Flash Tool + bypass tool python script and it went through with a success. However, this time, my screen seems to be completely dead but my phone is still showing some signs of life (short vibration when pressing the power button, but since then it seems that it takes a few seconds more from pressing the power button to turn it on. ) I reconnected and disconnected everything to see whether or not I missed out something but the issue still persists.
The computer reads the device as "Android ADB interface" and the adb console reads it as *device id* unauthorized when I ran adb devices command. There's no notification light whenever I plug it into the charger.
Is my screen dead, or is my motherboard toast? I need to know as I don't want to spend money to buy a replacement LCD only to know that the motherboard's dead. I don't really care about the IMEI as I'm just going to use it as an authorization device for work. I can just always connect to Wi-Fi. Please advise.
One problem after another, so it seems.
Turns out I already unbricked the phone, but the thing is that my display's backlight got busted for some reason. Unless I shine a flashlight through it, I won't know what's in the screen. I'm currently on the way to get a replacement screen, and a new battery cover.
I guess this will be the last Xiaomi device that I'll ever get. This is the only time that I experienced such flimsy build quality since the LG G4.
Maybe you have destroyed a lil cable or something.
