I have tried to use two non-nexus chargers, one from lg e900 and one from p1000, first one had a problem with it, i mean it wasnt able to sustain working device when using it, one from galaxy tab does fine, diffrence between them is max current, e900, does 0,35A, and galaxy tab does 5.0 juet like nexus one.

I'm using an HP Touchpad 5.4Vdc/2A charger and it works perfectly. My half amp car charger doesn't even register when you plug it in though.
The stock Nexus 7 charger lists DC Output at 5Vdc/2A.
I believe the One X charger is a 5V 1A charger, it should work but you probably won't be able to play while charging. The Nexus 7 charger is a 5V 2A.
heh, im just lazy. I originally had a nexus one and so that is the charger that is all nicely cabled in my house! since i got my One x i have been using the N1 charger for it and it works fine
N7 however doesnt, connect N1 charger to it and N7 flickers between charging and not charging all day
Is it safe to charge my HTC Desire with the Asus Nexus 7 charger? So I don't have to switch out chargers all the time.
My HTC Desire charger is 1A, and Asus is 2A. HTC charger would be underpowered to charge the Nexus but what of the opposite? could Asus charger damage the HTC Desire as it's 2A?

It will charge without/with negligible harm.
I sometimes charge my old SGS1 on my Asus TF300 charger, and I have no issues.

Well an Ampere is defined as a Coulomb (unit of current) per second, so the only difference is that 2 A provides current twice as fast as 1 A, meaning it will charge twice as fast. As long as the voltage is the same or very similar between two chargers, you shouldn't have a problem (theoretically). I'm only speculating though, so if someone else has a better understanding of electrostatics, please correct me.

A charger will only provide as much as the device can pull. If the device can only pull 1A then the charger will only provide 1A no matter how powerful it is. This is a safety feature.

N7 charger is 2.0A, OneX charger is 1.0A, so it will charge half as fast.
Why not, you know, just use the charger that came with the N7?

As long as the voltage is correct there is negligible risk. From reading, it appears that the N7 requires about 1A to sustain during use. Using a 1A adapter shouldn't do any harm, but will not charge during use.
As far as using a 5.4v charger, its within 10%, but I still would only use 5v chargers just in case.

I managed to blow the fuse of a cheap and nasty charger (rated 5V 1A) while using it. Not saying that it was the 7, but it had been in daily use with other devices and this was it's first use with the 7.
Another charger didn't even manage to get the icon to show as charging.
Also seems to take a lot longer charging with a 1A unit, so I'm heading out there to find a 2A unit. One charger is not enough and life is too short.
It will charge, but slowly. The nexus charger is 2A whereas the One X charger is only 1A. My in-car charger for my One X won't charge ,y nexus at all.

all if the above is correct about 1x amp charging the device with one exception. Some batteries. especially li polimar . have very smart logic chips. If you charge with a 1 amp charger and use the device at the same time and are pulling more using the device while charging you can OVER LOAD your Battery causing to much heat and damaging it or damaging the charger. Of course this all depends on the electronics and the logic chips within them on how they are managed.
So i would use caution if you charge and use the DEVICE With anything less then the exact specs of the Charger that came with the device...

That's because the iPad charger doesn't have the data pins shorted out to enable fastcharge . Easiest way to accomplish fastcharge with your charger, is to buy a charging cable (data pins shorted out, so it is not a data cable:

I use the blackberry playbook charger with no issues.

Yes I know, and that's the reason the iPad charger won't work on fastcharge.
You need to either shortout the data pins of the iPad charger, or use a charger cable with shorted data pins ( a so called charge-only micro usb cable) to make the iPad charger use full capacity (fastcharge mode). There are also cable adaptors for sale that will shortout the data pins for you.

Yep, that one works because it follows the USB standard rules, and not the Apple USB standard.
No iDevice (iPhone/iPad) charger will fastcharge an android phone or tablet without modifying the datapins or use a charge-only cable / adaptor.
The Blackberry Playbook charger is known to work
Get an HP touchpad charger if you can. I can provide empirical evidence that it will actually charge your n7 20 minutes faster than the stock charger. I posted a thread about it here some time ago. "Best aftermarket charger ..." Or something like that.
Plus, my HP touchpad charger hasn't failed to work with whatever device I've plugged into it - idevice or android.

I will suggest the HP touchpad charger for use with the N7... they work great and produce no noticeable heat when not connected... shows good efficiency.:good:
Check Ebay -= just did a quick search and got 131 hits anywhere from 8-20 USD. I"ve bought 2... one is firmly set to be my preferred travel charger for any USB device.

Someone did a in depth look at factory and aftermarket chargers and it came out way better in terms of current provided and cleanliness of power without spikes or dropouts.

That will do the trick - but you don't need another cable if you already have one.
I went with the charger without cable option and got 2 chargers for less than that price. Just have eBay sort the search results by price+shipping and optionally USA sellers only to find a better price without waiting for a slow boat from China.

If the charger puts out less than the tablet needs then it will just charge slower (or not at all if it's really low) and if it puts out more than the maximum the tablet uses the extra will just go unused. Voltage is a different issue.

Having your device plugged into a USB 2 500mA computer port obviously charges slower then a 2000mA wall charger. It would be pretty faulty design if plugging your device into your computer would cause hardware damage.
Man, this really sucks, the Monoprice cable mentioned earlier in this thread is having the same issue I had with another micro USB cable, it doesn't seem to fit into the Nexus 7 snugly, it doesn't seem to go in all the way. (I hope I don't have a busted charging port), It doesn't seem to charge it at all, even with the stock Nexus AC adapter. I'm about to break down and buy the official Google charger again, even if all I need is a new micro USB cable.
I'm using 2 different monoprice cables, one in my car and one at home, and both fit well. Sounds like the port has gotten damaged.

So, I just decided to buy a whole new charger off Amazon. If that won't work and I determine that the micro USB port is busted, I'm not going to be very happy, haha. does anyone know if Google repairs them for a fee?
I use a Playstation Vita charger which seems to charge my N7 very fast. On the other hand, I've tried an old mobile charger also and the battery level goes down whilst plugged into it.

I just bought this car charger, hoping that I could get a faster charging inside my car, as it says at Amazon (and also in the pack of the product) that it works with android phones (Motorola’s ones as well).
Unfortunately, it seems it does not work with our Nexus 6.
Has anyone own the same charger and have similar troubles?

For our phones you need a Qualcomm certified charger that charges at 2amps 18w or higher.

I looked the product up. And it seems some people received the 10w model. And they are having issues with charging phones that require 2.0A or higher. Maybe you should look into it. They might of sent you an older model.

Read that too, but, unfortunately (or fortunately) I received the 12w model (2 12w ports)... But it doesn't work as well.

I have the charger and it works fine to charge the phone. The post that states you need a Qualcomm Quick Charge certified charger is also completely false. You only need that if you want to take advantage of the fastest charging rates possible, but other chargers certainly work just fine, and I RARELY use the charger that came with my phone to charge it.

How about a bit of clarifications... does not charge AT ALL? Or charges, but slow?
If it does not charge at all, then you need to make sure that it is actually making contact with the cig lighter plug. Does the charger have a light? If so, does the light turn on? Have you tried a different USB wire? If you've tried a different wire, and can confirm that it is getting power from your cig lighter plug, and it still doesn't charge AT ALL, then your unit is defective. End of story.
If it charges, but slow, then its working as expected.
It doesn't charge at all.
Tested again with an iPad and with a blackberry and it works normally with both. It just does not works with my Nexus 6...
BTW, my Nexus 6 works with other car charges that I have (an old Samsung one and a belkin too).

First off, I'd like to say I received these products for an unbiased review! Secondly, my English is not amazing, please no judgment. LASTLY, I will upload pictures later.
The Tronsmart Car Charger is amazing in build quality, it is sturdy and it fits nice and snug into a car port. It comes with two outputs; one USB A, and another USB C. The USB A port supports Quick Charge for your other Android devices, and USB C charges just like the factory charger (just for cars). I tested both outputs using Ampere, and they both charge at the said rates (USB A goes to only 2.0A and USB C goes to 3.0A). I did not have two devices at the time to charge both at the same time, and I will update this when I do.
The cables are got were amazing in quality as well. Tronsmart really knows how to build mobile accessories. The cables are thick so they don’t feel like they will break in a couple days (unlike Apple official cables -___-). They give a nice click when you connect it into the USB C part on the Nexus 5x. They also are certified cables from Google employee Benson; if you check using Ampere, they are charged at the correct Amps.
I will use it more often and report with more info, I'm in college at the moment and super busy with work so I will update when I have the time.

It is a neat looking charger and my Nexus 5x shows that it is rapidly charging however it takes definitely longer that the wall charger. Ampere shows just 1500mah with the tronsmart. Is that normal?

I'll be camping next week and would like something for pictures and biking and hiking, and for pictures. Not in network but would like for pictures, will be running in airplane mode to save battery.

Well the slimmest ones are about the same dimensions as the phone but thicker, 5000mah, and are usually only 1A. So that would only get you something like 1.5 charges at a slow speed.
I would go with something like a 10000mah capacity. Those are usually 2.4A and now support Quick Charging 3.0 making it good for possible future devices. It'll also get you a good 3 whole charges at a decently fast speed. It's also still relatively pocketable especially compared to the bigger ones.

I use the 10k mah xiaomi power bank. I think there is even a new version by now. I ordered it via banggood and I use a USB type a to c cable from aukey with it. I
have never managed to drain the battery within one weekend, it even lasts a full 5-day week with moderate - heavy use and I managed a full 7 days with my phone battery and the power bank. The latter of course with not so heavy use, but I was still impressed.

I have the One Plus 10000 mAh powerbank and use it with the original cable + micro usb to usb-c adpater. No rapid/fast charging, but the phone charges pretty fast anyways.

If you're using a type A to type C cable, it'll only charge at a 1.8A or 2.0A with 5V rate and not hit 3A mark. It might say "Charging rapidly" but actual numbers are lower than the stock charger. Basically, at 15% over 60 minutes (with the screen off and no use) you'll probably be around 70%. Stock gets you to 90%.

Got myself a Xiaomi 20.000mah powerbank a few weeks ago. Works very good and I am able to charge my phone around 5/6 times. The phone doesn't say 'Fast charging', but I think it is pretty fast. Would definitely recommend.
Used it camping for a few days, charged it up two full times, took about an hour to get to about 95%

Plain and simple but alot useful.
I am using Kingston Mobilelite Wireless G2 (I think there is G3 now)
Powerbank, SD card, USB, Wifi/LAN bridge in one.
I can stream music/video, copy files and charge at the same time.
I would recommend buying Xiaomi Powerbank 10000 mAh Pro - it's designed for USB-C devices and charges Nexus 5X really well.
