The horrible Marshmallow Update for S5 - Bugs on top of BUGS - Galaxy S 5 General

I note the following issues in the Marshmallow update SM-G900FD
1. Call recording - Android API access is completely broken normall it would record in mode 2 but it doesn't work anymore. The following Call Recorders did work they are (Total Recall, Boldbeast Call Recorder) as they use a different approach. I payed for both. But actually both are having hit and miss issues. Sometimes the call recordings are perfect, sometimes they are missing the first 3-7 seconds. Sometimes call recording fail and it doesn't fix itself for a duration of time. Boldbeast contacted me and informed me that the reason behind it is that there is an issue in the ROM that causes the call recording to fail randomly.
2. System Restarts - I'm in a call for a long duration and after the call the Android OS is asking me for my backup password saying that the System just restarted while I was on the call. WTD!
3. System Lockup during Redials - I can confirm that it has nothing to do with call recording but it seems the UI becomes unresponsive sometimes when the phone is starting a call. This is a horrible when the phone is redialing a busy number. For example, my friend was in a class and he was busying my call and I just kept ringing him back. At my end. the UI was frozen and I couldn't stop the phone from redialing. :-
4. No access to band selection (Service mode) - I live in Sri Lanka, so even in populated cities the coverage is low, I used to put the phone on 3G/4G only mode through the hidden menu via *#0011# because sometimes the stupid thing reverts to 2G. Now its no longer possible.
5. Low Battery life and No Doze - I have only noticed a decrease in battery life. Doze doesn't seem to be kicking in.
6. Slow charging - In Marshmallow power saving mode gets disabled when the phone is charging causing slow charging because in Lollipop the Power saving mode existed even while charging contributing to a faster charge.
7. Smart Pause icon - It remains half enabled even when Smart Pause is completely off.
8. Ugly app drawer - Doesn't look classy or professional. It looks like more Cartoon like. Lollipop was perfect.
9. Issues moving apps to SD Card - Many of the Apps that were in the SD before the upgrade was reported to be in internal storage (In reality it wasn't). When I told to move it to SD the whole phone crashed and restarted and the App was found corrupted. Had a tough time trying to uninstall it afterwards.
10. File type association, no way to reset - I opened a file in the File Manager through the video player which was not able to play it. Now I it opens it by default through video player and this selection is not even listed in the default applications area. I find no way to undo or ask another app such as VLC to open it.
Considering these issues, I decided to the downgrade to Lollipop today, from the 17th of May I tried to LIVE with Marshmallow but its a horrible update for the S5 which I think Samsung intends to make users buy the S7 making them fed up with the S5. The only issue Lollipop had was the System Sound volume issue (high from time to time) and Calls not ending even when told (the phone doesn't stop calls on redial and sometimes the phone continues the call without your knowledge).
Message received from Boldbeast
Hi,
1. Cannot record calls sometimes.
What's the problem?
There is a bug inside the ROM of your phone - the built-in MediaServer works unstable.
How do we know it?
We checked your log files and several other user's log files, so we know it.
How to know it's true?
No matter what call recorder you are using, the result is the same - sometimes the ROM fails to record calls.
What does Boldbeast Recorder do when the ROM fails to record calls?
When the ROM fails to record calls Boldbeast Recorder tries at most 20 times to restart recording, if it still fails the app gives up.
How to fix the problem?
Third-party apps can't fix it. Users have to wait the manufacturer to fix it in future ROM updates.

How to downgrade 900F variant to Lollipop from Marshmallow

@y chirantha7777
My S5 G900H exynos variant is working fine with marshmallow
and doze mode is good, battery life increased and no laggs and heating issues anymore
May be you must reset your device and clear cache partition and data
And check if the problems still exists or not

@ OP - Marshmallow is great here, something wrong your end
And as for the ugly UI changes, there are no changes from LP > MM, it looks identical other than some new icons
Battery life is way better with MM than KK or LP
Charging is just as quick
No system restarts
Factory reset your broken phone

How can charging be as quick? MM stops power saving mode while charging. In the technical perspective, prove to me how more amps the circuit will provide just because its running MM...
Several users are reporting that Marshmallow is killing the battery not much but a 20% faster drain.
Says you, activate the lock screen with finger print and backup password. Use your phone for a day with several calls.
My phone isn't broken, after downgrading to Lollipop I am experiencing great use with less of a trouble.
Tell me, why are you trying to justify this broken update? what good has it bought you? Can you even access the Service menu for band selections now? You can't put it on LTE/WCDMA only mode. Can you record your calls without hit and miss issues? I'm a person that depends on call recording for my detective work and evidence gathering. Tell me the great things Marshmallow has bought to the phone... I'm all ears!

Just because you didn't factory reset after upgrading, doesn't mean everyone else has the same problems
MM is better in every single way than LP for me
Currently at 2d 15h on battery with 5h 35m SoT

I think the same. You MUST do a factory reset after a major upgrade like this one. It's mandatory if you don't want to have the problems you have.
While testing I haven't found any of the bugs you mention. Ex:
- The battery is superb now, charges as quick as always have, last at least a day with 4hs of SOT.
- launcher is really good and nothing changed except of the icons (which are the same of the ones included in Galaxy Note 5). If you don't like the stock launcher then install Nova Launcher or any other third-party launcher and use the theme you like.
- Don't know about Doze (if itspresent or not) but now the battery last longer.
- File associations: the control for that its where it always has been.. "Default applications" ("Predeterminadas" in spanish) option inside of the Settings app.
And one last thing: if you updated to 6.0 and you want to keep it simply backup your data and do a factory reset with a custom recovery (as stock recovery will wipe the internal memory too so say goodbye to the music and photos you may have there).
If doing a factory reset doesn't fix your problems, then go back to 5.0 and stay there for all the time you want (updates on android aren't mandatory so you can choose what to do and when to do it)

Please tell me your variant. I'm using the 900F variant and all my friends are suffering from these issues. Resets have not helped them. I think you are using a different variant based off the other chip set
In Lollipop you don't need root to change band selection! or access the service menu! *#0011# method with Q and 0000 worked perfect. MM ruined everything!

I did not reset my S5 (G900H) but everything seems to work normally. Noticed some visual bugs but nothing major.

Using it on G900H, no issues observed. Happy with the update, it's smooth and better battery compared to LP.

The last weeks I was nearly every free minute looking for the desired Marshmallow update, without any success.. The really annoying thing is, that other phones from other operators (salecodes) here got it some weeks ago. As we know it from the past, some variants seem to be more important, than others.
Now, I read your threads op and I do not know, if the waiting is pointless, because sammy did not do something great to our phones..
How does the mm rom feels about? I hate the waiting for updates, sammy drives me crazy, sometimes..
Some of your reported bugs I would never recognize, because I use my phone for staying in connection to my friends, not more.
Hopefull that my phones mm updates makes me happier than it did to you...

Then maybe something gone wrong with the ota update. If I were you I would:
-do a backup
- do a factory reset with a custom recovery
- download the stock rom from sammobile or samsung-updates (any 6.0.1 for your variant, it doesn't care the region except for the modem but you can download the rom of your region later, extract the modem.bin file and flash ot with Odin),
- flash the rom with odin and test.
Later you can re-install the custom recovery and root the phone with the latest beta of supersu (odld versions won't work with 6.0.1)

[Q] Incoming call delay after updating to CarbonROM KitKat 4.4

Because of the very laggy behaviour of my I9070 after the official upgrade to JB, I decided to go for KitKat after reading good reviews about it.
All this is pretty new for me, but I succesfully rooted the phone, installed the ClockWorkMod recovery tool and flashed to Android 4.4.4.
The build number according to the settings menu is: carbon-janice-userdebug 4.4.4 KTU84P 3a697bce2f test-keys
Overall the performance is excellent and the nasty lags in the youtube app are completely gone so I can finally watch movies again Also I am pleased about the look and feel of KitKat.
The problem is that when receiving an incoming call, it appears that the caller does not hear my voice during the first 5 seconds or so. Mostly this is the time that I say "hello <my name> speaking" but this is not heared by the caller. Now I am forced to wait those few seconds before saying my name. I tested it with my other home phone line and this unwanted behaviour does seem to be persistent.
It is pretty annoying and really a flaw to this otherwise great update. Any ideas how to fix this?

I use Carbon rom 4.4.4, to be exactly the ROM-file CarbonKK_janice-4.4.4-20140627.zip
AFAIK this is still the most recent version. Maybe the problem was even worse with the previous builds.
But I did not have this problem with the, otherwise pretty laggy official JB upgrade from Samsung.... lets hope for a new update from Carbon that gets rid of the issue.

Hmm
Have not downloaded this version bcos the mega downloader gets stuck all the time
if the problem exists then why dont you try the AOSP rom
Off course it does not provide with all the features but its quite stable and we definately have gravitybox or many other apps for the additional features

I will definately consider this, I have not a very clear view on the differences between the different ROMS and tend to get lost in the flood of information on this site and others... I am not interested in lots of features but just want a fast, lag-free phone with the normal features: email, gmail, whatsapp, youtube, Google maps etc. If AOSP is more stable than Carbon, I will surely try it.

I installed the AOSP rom and it seems stable and maybe the call delay issue is better, still have to test it more.
I do however miss some nice functions which were present of the Carbon ROM:
- separate lockscreen background
- disabling the annoying Google Now bar on the homepages
- some fine tuning in icon colors
- kliing an app by long-press the back button
- defining hotkeys e.g. for the camera
and some more..
Is there maybe some package to install to add functions like this to the AOSP ?

Unfortunately the AOSP-4.4.4 ROM (build 20140620) is on second thoughts not working for me.
Though the install of the ROM and GApps went fine, I discovered that I had no internet when leaving my home with Wifi, and it appears that I had no connection with my provider and the icon always showed the R of "roaming".
Even after a new fresh install without the GApps the problem persists. The setting "Mobile data" appeared to be torned off, and ehen setting it to on, the triangle with exclamation mark and the (translated) message "The data connection has been broken because you left your home network while data roaming was turned off" (hope my translation makes sense).
So accessing my 3G network appears to be impossible and tham makes the build unusable for me. I installed the Carbon Janice 4.4.4 again and everything worked fine.
With the pa_gapps-mini.4.4.4 the system is up and running again and the incoming call delay is still somewhat of an issue but no show stopper. So for now I go that way...

Check if you have set up APN, on some ROMs it is not possible to be set automatically by provider. So you need to fill it manually. And you must do factory reset on ROM change to avoid those kind of problems too.

Do you mean a factoery reset just after installing the ROM and Gapps? I think indeed I have not done that.

Yes, factory reset before or after (just need to to it when you change ROM) install of a new ROM. Unless you just doing update to new version of the same ROM. Then you do wipe cache and dalvik cache.

OK I did those 3 steps before flashing the new ROM. Sometimes I even had to do it twoce because the ROM did not install and raised a error 7 or so...
I think it was more a problem with the APN configuration and never before needed to do this manually...

If you dirty flash (just wipe cache/dalvik and install) the new version, you want loose your apps etc.
But I would recommend to do a clean flash (factory reset and format system), but before backup your apps with Titanium. After installing the new version you can restore your apps and data.
But anyway, before wiping/installing anything do a nandroid backup. So if anything went wrong, you can go back in just a minute.
solution ?

Dont blame google for samsung mistakes. It isnt android problem couz my friend is using sII and there isnt any problem. Our phone is not an flagship like s 5 or nexus 5 so it has problems.
But this dealy is usefull sometimes.
For example if u want to unsware the call and u are stressed u can take a deep breath before u hear voice for other side

But this dealy is usefull sometimes.
For example if u want to unsware the call and u are stressed u can take a deep breath before u hear voice for other side

I am stressed when receiving an incoming call and caller don't hear me. I wait from mobile phone calling without problems.
I just wanted to know if there is a ROM without this problem or if anyone have solution.:cyclops:
@ian2189
This is our phones problem. 99% of the users (me too) were expiring this since gingerbread 2.3.6 . So i think there isnt a solution. I now why it is happening but it is unfixnable.

Experience with 5.01 Lollipop Update

Note 4 Bell Canada
Updated 5.0.1
Day 3 Extra Info
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Full day at work 85% battery at the end
Google Chrome PC and Android bookmark history sync works perfectly
Wifi hotspot works perfectly every time ... no dreaded "Limited connectivity" like I used to see with the GS3
Fast charging is awesome .... with the stable battery usage of Note4 with 5.0.1 it is so easy to keep this phone charged.
Bad: My phone keeps taking screenshots when I am on the lock screen and I don't know why.
Day 2 Extra Info:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The Good:
As far as I can tell everything works.
Bluetooth dropouts during locked state drastically reduced ..... sometimes stutters once a few seconds after lock and none observed after (JVC Car Audio Unit)
Menu multitask key is just as snappy as before (I had already disabled Google talkback)
Battery life is great ..... At 6*% after a full day at work ..... my GS3 was often near zero after a ful day in the same location
I can now give permissions to write to a microSD card
Standby battery life is great ...... charged 100% went to sleep .... woke up at 98% (My GS3 would be somewhere between 60 and 70% same location)
Every app I have is behaving normally
The Bad:
I got one random Google + forced close so far (that is no so bad I guess)
Update Process: Smooth as silk, no crashes, no lockups, no forced closures
The UI: New notifications are great, a lot of little improvements including and x if you want to close an app
Performance: same as before ... great no keyboard issues yet, no issues with toggling things on and off, Chrome scrolls web pages smoothy
Apps: All apps seem to work ... no forced closes
Battery: no obvious differences ... to early to tell
Things Fixed: My bluetooth connection stuttered like crazy in the car if the phone was locked .... seems like this was fixed in 5.0.1 ....
Seems like the max volume is louder now
I'm on Bell too and my experience is very similar to yours. So far I'm very happy with the update. No problems and I'm enjoying some of the new changes.

1. Power Saving on/off from setting not working. (No changes when u slide on the slider to on/off, only working via notification toggle)
2. GPU thermal throttling for benchmark. (I'm not a fan of benchmarking, but it's interesting to see the 3D behaviors on 5.0.1 unable to perform as what it should be if the phone temperature not cold enough)
3. Waze graphical glitches.
These are some of the possible bug that I realized and it need to be fixed in the next update.
However, overall experience still not that bad. The main issue for me now is the Waze graphical glitches which force me to temporary using Nokia Here Map at the moment.
I'm on BOC3 Malaysia. You may take a look on my signature for version information.

I'm from Malaysia too. But i don't have power saving problem.
Wake did not work properly.
Recent apps slower than before. Like 2 second lag.
No more option to change lockscreen animations
Data usage unable to view data usage in short period of time.
Some features were removed after upgrade.
Only useful additional thing is smart lock
Sent from my SM-P605 using XDA Premium HD app
As on 5.0.1, there are Pros & Cons.
Pros:
1. The finger print now is much much better than Kitkat
2. Feel like a bit faster.
Cons:
1. The Bluetooth is not so clear like on Kitkat and time to time no voice even if still on Bluetooth connecting. (Already try to unpair and repair, still not ok)
2. A bit warmer than Kitkat.
3. Eat more RAM than before
4. After sync calendar with Kies, all calendar on device are gone but still existing in outlook calendar.
Remark: I'm on SM-N9100 DUOS
Anyone having trouble with super su not granting privilege after rooting in G ?
I hate the lag and switch between screens on the brightness slider. I've gone back to kk
My experience has been great when it works (smoother UI, better battery life surprisingly).
One major issue though. 3 times, the phone rebooted overnight. All three times, it was while it was plugged into the charger, and it was stuck on the SAMSUNG logo (with bubbles animation). But I cannot get past it, and trying to restart via holding down the power button does not work.
Has anyone else experienced this yet?
Finally. Me too. Samsung Lollipop Update Problem

I AM experiencing this. I honestly think this update has broken my phone. My Samsung Galaxy S4 - when turned on, stays on the logo screen. Luckily for you it doesn't always do that but my phone won't even fully start up so I haven't been on it for two days. I really suggest you back up your phone because there may be a chance of it not turning on ever, like mine and a few phone shops are saying I need to completely wipe it. Does anyone know how to help? It would mean the world, thanks!
Battery life pretty disappointing. getting a good 10-14 hours under light usage. Heavy usage is out of the question if I'm leaving the house.
I downloaded the update yesterday and until now I must say it's amazing. Problems I had before with kitkat are gone. The speed is much faster. It's all so smooth and flat. I like it. I can't understand why everyone has issues with it. I'm using Note 4 SM-N910F.

Worth upgrading to Marshmallow?

Hi,
I have a Z3 Compact running pre-rooted Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. I got a notification about software update that i can't dismiss. i don't know if i should upgrade or not so force stopped the software update app.
What is your opinion about Marshmallow?
Are there any bugs?
Are there new features added and some features removed?
Is it worth upgrading to Mashmallow or should i keep Lollipop?
sorry i can't upgrade without user reviews
You can dismiss the update notification if you want (disable it).
MM has officially been out for only a few weeks and consequently is still full of bugs and problems.
The threads are full of the cries for help from the MM rom jumpers, oh the pain of being an early adopter.
Give it another month, by then it'll fixed.

How do you disable the notification? For which app do I have to do that?
Dont update to Mm.. There is some feature that missed..like battery stamina/ultra stamina..and also the battery drain fast..
Im a z3 compact Mm user
+1 for don't do it (now)
For me I will stay for not specified time at LP (mainly because of custom kernel).

The next time you see a notification, hold your finger on the notification and the bar will turn black and you will see an information 'i' on the right side, press this.
This will bring up the notification option.
Alternatively, go to settings\apps\scroll to the right until >all apps > 'update centre'
Then - force stop, untick notifications, clear cache/data
You won't get any more notifications about MM and no this won't harm or damage your phone in any way. Your phone will work fine on 5.1 for years and years, it doesn't need MM

If you have root, then go to the market and install ES Explorer
Open it, go to menu, look at the bottom 'tools'.
tick 'root explorer'
Go back to the top of the menu and find "home/device/system/app"
Look for "com.sonyericsson.updatecenter.apk"
Make a copy and save it somewhere, like Downloads.
Then delete the original in system/app.
If there is a problem you can always put the copy back in the folder, otherwise you will never get another update message again:good:

Just like when Sony released 5.0 Lollipop, it was full of bugs and the battery life sucked. It wasn't until 5.1 came out that we finally got a usable ROM. Expect more of the same with MM. Wait until 6.1 is released before upgrading. Especially those who are not rooted. There's no fixes and no turning back for those users.

For me, the most horrible is the delay when opening apps:
Lag manifests on this way: in response to launching app (Dialer let say) "window"/app pops up immediately but is is empty/white and only after a sec/two content shows up (for Dialer recent call list, favourites/frequent contacts, search). Minimizing app and immediately opening again is ok (it is in cache, background, memory), instant content shows up. But if I launch another app after minimizing dialer and then start dialer again - lag in Dialer is there. As if somehow Dialer is killed in background and need to relaunch again from the start (even full relaunch should not take that long anyway). Same as killing it in recent activities. All other stock apps behave this way. It is really annoying to see such a powerfull phone lags in this basic stock apps, as this doesn't happen on previous android versions (4.4.4, 5.0.2 or 5.1.1).
It would actually benefit you to DOWNGRADE to Kitkat...LP & MM are horrible on the Z3c

Indeed, I bought an iPad mini, downgraded z3c to KK and life is good.
I use my phone now for what phones are meant to - calling, occasional e-mail, messaging, weather, etc. Battery life is 4..5 days. The car bluetooth shows addressbook again (did not work with LP, MM).
I use power toggles as lock screen widget for bluetooth, wifi, hotspot switch. Lock screen does not require additional swipe. All other things, in reality, work as they work with LP, MM.
For heavy use larger screen is recommended anyway - for the health of your eyes first of all.

Really? What problems did LP & MM bring to the z3c? If it is just better battery then I think I will stay with LP...(unless its twice as good on KK). The camera quality is important for me, are any of them better/worse than others?
Do I just use a 23.0.1.A.5.77 FTF file from here and flash it using Flashtool as the instructions here? I have not rooted or unlocked bootloader, all stock.

There is nothing wrong in MM.
Except for some people who do not use phone 12x7.
Since the concept ROM I was wondering why the battery gets empty even if I do nothing with it. The answer was Doze of course. Yes, I tried several ways for activating aggressive doze, but was not satisfied with these.
Then I decided to go retro and KitKat is all I really need, with its working STAMINA.
For camera I use Sony A6000 and you really can not compare real camera with phone.
If you use your phone heavily, please do not downgrade.
If you have smartwatch, please do not downgrade.
If you feel unsure about flashing, please do not downgrade.
If the warranty is dickbutt in your country - please do not downgrade.
If you still decide to downgrade, then yes, your instructions are correct.
NB! The flash will take long time. Be pacient. It seems to be stuck but it just stays in one place for 5..10 minutes and then everything is ok. I have not measured the exact time, but I was horrified at first flash - it really seemed stuck. Perhaps it is just with my phone.
Scared of MM, really?
Firstly its been out quite some time now, especially if you consider N has just been released to the Nexus range.
Stamina mode and Doze are fantastic, I get 2 days+ with my compact and it's on 24/7.
I also have audited my startup items and background apps to reduce load on then phone which pays dividends.
The initial MM upgrade didn't include Stamina but Sony have since released an update bringing it to the masses.
Your call in the end but don't let scaremongerers cloud your judgement, do some reading, reviews from good sources and make your own minds up.
I did and only issue I had, which I know probably isn't just down to MM, was the emergency dialling issue on lockscreen.
3rd party app cured that for me so now the phone doesn't sit in my pocket making random noises and dialling whoever it pleases anymore!

I've got 4...5 days with KitKat, phone is also on 24/7 (but of course, I do not USE it 24/7). No root.
It's not about scare - the phone is too cheap to be scared, besides there are many new phones to choose from with really good batteries.
However, I do not feel that I should change the phone and I like when I do not have to charge it often.

Perhaps one should take into consideration that the workload of the phones has been increased a lot during last few years. Specially if you have smart devices etc.

S5 marshmallow issues

Has anyone updated to marshmallow? I recently did and noticed several features I often used gone...first the power saving mode is changed and does not turn your screen grey anymore to save battery life. Also I often used power saving mode when I wanted to quickly charge my phone (this would charge the phone much faster than not having it on)and this feature is also gone bc the phone will not allow you to use power save and [email protected] time! Another feature gone is being able to quickly preview a text in the notifications bar without going to the text. However the greatest issue is that all my music and video files have to be opened individually instead of being in a large list...Also I cannot use the app but have to go thru the sd card folder topopen each file one by one I'm using the stock Samsung video player and music player...is there a way to fix this it has to be an issue with marshmallow bc I've tried 4 different sd cards and it worked fine before the update to mm..? .if anyone can help please lmk

MM is one of the best update which s5 received.
Yes greyscale power saving mode is gone
Stock Video player & music player is working fine on my device
Try clearing cache and data for both app
And try if it works out for you
I have greyscale power saving mode on mm.

okti : how do u have it? Whenever I do power saving mode it stays in color plus you can no longer charge while in power saving mode...This helped me charge my phone super fast compared to color mode...
yash92duster: Clearing the cache and data did nothing...I still cannot access my music or videos that are on my SD card through the stock samsung music/video player...The only damn music/video files I can access are the ones that are on the phones storage but not the SD card!!!? Go to developer options , click simulate color space and select Monochromacy. It will give you the grey scale you looking for. But not sure how much power saving that will give.
I dont know about you but for me it`s worst. I`m on official software(dbt-germany G900FXXU1CPEM), updated via ota system update. It looks the same as 5.0 but it says it`s 6.0.1. .I get ~1-1.5 hours of screen time (on 5.0 i had ~3 hours). If i use the phone for more than 3 minutes it gets hot, never happend on 5.0. Except for the new animations and icons it`s nothing new for me. Even the notifications panel looks like old 5.0(with green icons not white like in 6.0.1.). Also battery is charging a little slower, it took 1.5 hours to get from 30% to 100%.

My biggest issue is the Battery Life. It is fluid-smooth esp. with games, but at the expense of sucking every bit of battery. Tried a lot of Marshmallow Firmwares from many regions but all have this issue with the battery life. I hope Samsung fix this.

Don't know if this will be any help, but personally speaking I DO NOT update by way of OTA's. I had a bad experience with my S2 Skyrocket (that I still have) and ever since I flash stock firmware thru Odin, but only after I install a custom recovery and do a data, cache and system format. I presently use a G900M (Latin America.) I just updated to MM from KK about 4 days ago, CWM recovery installed, rooted, debloated, Xposed installed, and I must say my device is running quite fine.

A few questions about the 6.0.1 update

So I am a bit burned from updating my s5 mini (last time it just updated itself to 5.0, my battery life and performance shrunk and it wouldnt even let me disable bloatware).
Here are my questions:
1. How did the battery life change from 5.0;
2. How did the peformance change from 5.0 (including in-apps, opening them and regular menu opening/scrolling);
3. Is USB-OTG now supported?
1. Battery life has improved a lot, at least for me. It seems that Smart Manager is really doing its job and I'm seeing an improvement in both standby time and SOT. With a few tweaks here and there you can improve the battery life even more.
2. Everything feels smoother, there are some updated animations and transitions that really make the phone feel like new.
3. No, OTG on the S5 Mini has never been and never will be officially supported by Samsung. There is a custom kernel that enables OTG but it most likely affects the water resistance capabilities because of the exposed USB connector and also it's somewhat of a risk to use anything that requires power on a port that was never designed to do that.
One of the few drawbacks I noticed just today is that the auto brightness seems a lot less responsive. For example it's very sunny today and most of the time when pulling the phone out of my pocket the display was still stuck on low brightness. It might just be a conflict with xposed or something else I'm running. All in all I recommend that you update, I skipped the 5.1.1 update as well but for different reasons, 6.0.1 is pretty good.

What model are you using? I'm using the GH800F.
How big is the change? And I've heard that 6.0.1 gives you less performance for more battery. Is that correct?
Sorry, I'm just scared of updating because I don't want to lose all of my data for another let down like 5.1.1 (that literally just enabled itself out of ****ing nowhere and I lost everything).

G800F as well. Like I said, I've noticed a big improvement in battery life. Just make a backup of the important stuff on your phone like contacts and photos and try the 6.0.1 firmware - I recommend you do a clean install via ODIN.

Alright, as long as the performance hasn't decreased (especially in games) then I'll update.
Since I've got most things on my SD card, can I just remove it from my phone, update and put it back in?

Yes, backup everything you don't want to lose to your card, wipe the phone from recovery and install a fresh 6.0.1 firmware with ODIN. If you don't like Marshmallow you can always go back to KitKat.

That's the problem, I can't revert. I tried doing it with 5.1.1 but it just wouldn't let me. I tried multiple times, on multiple PC's with multiple USB wires. (which is why I'm so nervous).
P.s. So if I remove my card, installl 6.0.1 and add it again it'll work?

You should be able to revert, if you can't then there's an issue with something - maybe you haven't updated the Samsung USB drivers?
Yes, it will work. Backup your contacts, messages, photos, videos, anything you want saved on your card and pull it out before you update if you're so nervous.

So I just updated and it's been sitting at "samsung" for the past 5 minutes. Why?

The first boot takes ~15 minutes, be patient. Check out threads about the Marshmallow update you'll find a lot of useful info.

Oh wow. This is just...
It is so sluggish like wtf...
Also be aware that marshmallow ****s up your gps big time. if you're only using it for rough navigation it's fine, but don't expect accuracy as a pedestrian
Hi, i flashed stock MM TW comming from CyanogenMod 13. My battery life seems worse than before with CMod... What should I do?
Before upgrading to MM I did a benchmark test (AnTuTu) on 4.4.2 for comparison, ran the same test on MM and here are the results.
Thanks for the test. A more meaningful one would be to compare Lollipop 5.1 with MM 6.0.1 as most S5 Mini users have Lollipop installed.
I have a question about the MM 6.0.1 update. I flashed the new rom al updatet and seemd to work perfect. Then i noticed, the battery life was very poor. So take a good look at what was draining it. During the day it seemd okay, then when i got home it started rapidly draining again. I managed to figure out that when i am using 4G/LTE everything is fine but when i am home and change to my wifi, my screen turns on every 3 minutes or something and it complety unlocks as wel. because i have my screen time set to 1 minute it stays that way then turns of and about 3 minutes later turns itself on again. When i disable wifi the problem is gone.
Has anyone a idea how to fix this? i live at the border of my country and without wifi its gonna be expesive with roaming costs ....
Thanx in advance for your reply's
Hi, I'm using Germany (DBT) firmware.
I usually use Ultra Power Saving Mode.
Then after turn off Ultra Saving Mode, e-mail application is asking me "admin priviliages confirmation" for each time. (only for Exchange account)
My flashlight don't work in the dark after the update to marshmellow.
Tried another from play store, the same issue
DBT firmware

I had the same issue. Resetting the app worked for me. (btw. I googled that)
"Anwendungsmanager", "Kamera", "Speicher", "Daten löschen" und "Cache leeren".
Since you said you are on the DBT firmware, I assumed you are german.
I'm on 5.1.1 not rooted with g800f. Should I update to MM with Odin first then flash the custom recovery? Thank you!
