Why?.. Is it impossible?

I am from Germany and have a P7 too. The German telecom wrote an article about an update to android 6 but this was a mistake.
There ist no update... And I think there will be also no one. The P7 is too old.

There is hardly any chance that our Huawei ever gets marshmallow, atleast not officially. Also Developers have no interest in this phone and that's why p7 hasn't got marshmallow via a custom rom. Though I'm not a developer, I will try to build CM for this phone in this summer and see what comes out of it.

Glad to hear that, hope some developer comes in to build a CM, so the development would go smoother

The problem is not in absence of interest, but in GPU driver. Even though we have Mali GPU, Huawei used HAL from Vivante GPU (legacy of P6).
So until you can't get rid of prebuilt surfaceflinger and Vivante's hwcomposer, you won't be able to build AOSP / CM based custom ROM.

Well, it's just a matter of some hard work. And since there are not may developers around( like Arca, who quitted developing) willing to commit time for p7, that's why we don't have marshmallow yet. So there is always a workaround, for example the s7 was thought to never even have a kernel not even mentioning the fingerprint, but after a long time a workaround was found by devs. So more devs = success.

You're funny!
I'm not going to keep discussing with you, cause you don't understand what you're talking about.
Keep dreamig.

They are not open source. In AOSP source code hwcomposer has just a skeleton, every vendor implements it by himself. In our case we just don't have any alternative implementation for our SoC except one with Vivante HAL.
I'm trying to apply drivers from other device with Mali-450 GPU, there are couple variants I have not tried yet, but most probably their result will be negative.

This would certainly explain the piss poor gui performance on our little device. I always knew something fishy was at miss.
Just as an idea. I've read that p8 lite has similar gpu to p7, different soc of course. Would it be possible to extract the gpu fun part from the kernel of p8 lite and transfuse it to p7 kernel? On huawei official site there is an official kernel for p7 made for easy download.... Although I'm guessing the camera would be a major issue.
AOSP really would be (is) a dream.

[ROM] Plasma Active for SDE enabled Gen9

Hello Guys,

Don't expect much support on this, for me it seems unusable as it is, too slow and not finished. I just wanted to take a look at the way they boot from sdcard.
Installation:
1) You need SDE activated.
2) Unzip files to a directory
3) Copy plasma_rootfs.img to root of storage
4) Flash kernel+initramfs.gz in recovery (details with pictures there).
5) Boot sde
6) Wait, wait, wait! First boot is very slow, I didn't even try a second boot
Download is there (big file, 447 MB)
Thanks to cajl for pointing this and pushing me working on it.
Looks great !
Thank you for your excellent work ! I will try your ROM later....
Yet Another Stupid Question
Does this work also on hdd models?
tapatalked from Desire
BTW, someone promised a KDE-based buid as the usual SDE 'firmware' for gen9. Probably on behalf of Archos itself... Two months ago. Still there are no more signs of progress...
Not allowed to post links here yet, look at dot.kde.org
PLEASE READ:
I talked to a developer working for Archos, the Plasma Active based firmware is going to be the official SDE firmware!
But they're not working on it at the moment, they're trying to get ICS firmware out asap!
ALSO NOTE THAT:
the current plasma active image has no wifi (this is what I was told, haven't tried it yet) and that XORG is not HW Accelerated! The developer who made the Plasma Active based image is waiting for the kernel v3 to be released together with ICS firmware, hoping that a new kernel will fix the issues with WiFi and Hw acceleration.
Thank you, faenil - any piece of information is useful... but why so many capital letters?

Quite reasonable approach for a vendor. No more questions. At least, it is a very good sign that the vendor does not go blindly within the entire Google-driven mainstream but has a broader insight and does try the alternatives. A bad thing IMHO is that the heaviest desktop environment is selected, the least appropriate for XDAs. Yet some people really like it...

well, without wifi it it a pretty useless toy... hw acceleration is less critical for me (but not for others, I think).
On the other hand, once Archos is officially involved into this project, why couldn't they use the existing 2.6.x kernel? It does work within the Android, hence, there are all necessary modules and kernel options being known, written and placed properly. Excuse my ignorance, what is the problem in building the kernel with all the hw features for a particular device yet without Android-specific sw components? Or what is the problem in running a generic Linux userspace on top of it?

See this information from Basyscom

unfortunately we’ll have to wait a bit as the developer edition is required to install plasma edition. Archos wants to publish the developer edition after icecream sandwich being released.

The problem is the guy who's currently building PlasmaActive images is not from Archos the guy from Basyscom http://basyskom.com/news/78-plasma-active-on-archos.html
I don't know if there's any agreement, but I think they'll probably use his work and add the missing features at Archos

Hello @ all...
i will test the rom from the first post later today on my Archos G9 101!
The last post was on 8th february, what´s up... is there a developing or not? Because i´m very interessted in this rom for my Archos!
Do anybody knows something about a ubuntu-rom for our Archos G9???
Thank you!

Well, I didn't check their progress on it. I'm not really following it, I just did it more as a proof of concept and to get a taste of it. I saw that few builds have been compiled after this one, but I'm out of time to repackage it.

as I said earlier, this firmware is actively developed by Basyskom and should become the official firmware for SDE, but they're waiting for Archos to release ICS (with the new v3 linux kernel) hoping that the new kernel will fix the problems with WiFi and hw acceleration

I hope the offical ICS Build will be released soon.
I think the Archos G9 tab will be more potential with an full useable unix-system.

Well, quite logical and reasonable roadmap. But I do not expect much from KDE-based software. Out of all existing desktop environments, they selected the heaviest one, the least suitable for portables. Surely this is just to have fun and see if it can reallу fly (better to say, crawl) on a tablet. It is very unikely to be a viable product for everyday use.
Ubuntu version looks more promising, at least from performance viewpoint... if only it were not its destructive "innovations" like Unity and Ubuntu One...
Anyways, both have the same problems with hardware support, and both are waiting for the new kernel, first... Second, both will prove their inconsistence in the real life... Third, both will serve only as generic Linux booting platform, waiting for someone to compile a more realistic version. Probably it might be a Gentoo-based compilation with LXDE or XFCE - am I the only person in the world to whom this idea comes? 8-(( Sabayon team is now doing some moves in this direction, but their product is very heavy even for desktops...

I have used Plasma Active on my Nokia N950 (developer phone, which has a 1ghz single core CortexA8 cpu + SGX530!!) and it was really fluid, I mean 60fps...
don't see your point about performance, given what I've seen on my n950
I tested this ROM yesterday evening...
I think you are right, when you say that there ist a lot of development need before it runs smooth on our devices!
It was very very slow but it looks very goog, i think.
No WLAN or 3G
some funktions are without any funktion! ;-)
realy slow... Booting tooks 15 min.
At this time, this rom isn´t allday useable.
Do anybody know something about a ubuntu-release for tabs like our.... like the old netbook-remix?
Any news about new Plasma-based firmware from Archos? A lot of time has passed since release of kernel v3.x...

Using CM13 and this update drivers, I noticed a graphical improvement. But with the BHB27 things got a little unstable.
I know the title says Marshmallow. Just checking, not for 5.1 Lollipop -- like CM12.1?
After using for several days only CM13 of 06/20 with this update in normal use I had no problems except some reboot to make calls. But playing heavy games like Real Racing 3 for a long time, the phone heating up a lot, and restarted. With the stock kernel everything is working great.

Have you check the zip before flash it?
That is a Nexus 6 zip you are sharing, we don't have a Nexus 6, Moto doesn't build Maxx ROM like Google.
So resuming, on Maxx (Custom or stock ROM) the firmware folder is not on vendor folder it is at, etc/firmware, if you flash that you have two adreno firmware, and probably the one that is running is the Maxx using Nexus libs so maybe that alone is the problem not my Kernel.
Have you enable open GL 3.2?
Probably not, if that update enable 3.2 how about enable it on the device to see the effect and improves...
How?
Change build.prop line:
ro.opengles.vrersion=196608 or 196609 to
ro.opengles.vrersion=196610
Open GL version:
196608 3.0
196609 3.1
196610 3.2
After the changes and a reboot + long use, then start report any thing related to the kernel if you have prof that the kernel is the problem in a way I can understand and reproduce, I don't really like user with minimum knowledge of what they are doing report bugs like that, this may not be your case you may know what you are doing but it doesn't seems to me, so if you know sorry.

I copied the new driver files to the right folder on the MAXX and adjusted access rights.
Anyway, even before doing so, always using the kernel of stock SOAK4, everything worked well. No reboots.
Still now working well, even after the old drivers are overwritten by new ones - without erasing the original wrong folder.
Using smoothly from the beginning.

Fully understood, thank you again for clarification and apologize for having shared this zip, just wanted to make clear that only shared because it caused no problem here in my Maxx, but since it does not work already made sure
if I was not very clear apologize again because I am using Google translator because my English is very bad
For those who are doing tests with this early version of the driver - for desenvoledores only - there is an update in June, the "m" version.
Do not forget to copy the drivers to the right folder on the MAXX and verify the files system permissions.
I have already installed, and everything is normal.
I will use for a few days to evaluate effects.
Is there any possibility of getting compatible with custom roms?

This update will be fixed? Nwm, at least please, android 6.0.1, kernel 3.10.107 and latest gpu mali driver, Huawei plz. I hope we will receive something big(ger).
It's probably going to be a security update lol (These are important too though, thx for 2 year support huawei)

Maybe something bigger is coming, bcs we aren't seeing any movement on updates, you know, almost every 5 day a rom is released to other regions(c432, c205 etc). They didn't released anything since almost 15 days... And they said that one more update will come.... Interesting, i hope for something bigger.
We can expect something around 15th of September - that's mainly date of update releases. But... it's still unknown if we'll keep receiving those updates until end of the year or if there will be only one update

System is almost the same, they only "cut" functions, etc... So... slow down under nougat??? How many custom ROMs with Android 7 is in this P8 Lite page??? Any one complains about a slow phone????
Was better if they write " ... P8 lite wont get android 7 update because no longer make enough money for us ...", in that i belive... Android 6 still have bugs, and system tells where and they simply do not bother to find it!
Just do a logcat or see the files in /data/system/dropbox! They tell everthing you need to know!
They simple do copy paste from one model to other, just take and add functions depending on the hardware, etc ....
Huawei ...

You are right. Can you release your next rom (b612?) with implemented missing libs from other phones, as well as the new kernel from kio.... Kismi.. You know??. Disable sim pin, so it won't give trouble. Wish you all the best man, I'm still rocking the B608(skipping b610)
Btw, i like their story that nougat would slow down the phone??

good job :good: keep it up guys
Way the go!!!
Yeahhhhhh keep up guys.
It's great that this has finally been posted, but it looks like development had stopped. If anybody wants to see this fully working, please support the only Dev who is still trying to fix bugs. He's not getting any help right now, so if anybody can help with development or donations, please do so. Hopefully we will one day have a fully working 8.0 ROM for our device.

Yeah so basically because there are other devs who CAN fix this but really can't be fu***d so I mean unless you guys can learn how to fix this stuff I would just suggest buying another phone like I have done

Nope no can do different stuff or whatever, look a reason why I bought a new device was not because of it being old or broken, but because development was slowly n now has completely died and that's none of the developers fault it's Sony's for not releasing Android 8.1.0 or even 8.0 HOWEVER the devs are more than capable of fixing it but it's not in their interest to they have many devices and do development as a hobby clearly this was a big project and I am surprised we even got this far I just kept asking and voila! I mean they kept there word and built it ? now this doesn't mean this rom is particularly abandoned anything is possible so if anyone is willing to develop for this device or just rom to fix the the small major n some minor bugs please go ahead ? I posted this not because I was allowed to but because @ReversedPosix asked me too and we felt bad mostly him tbh but yeah ? this will probably be the last project for this device from any developer
Keep up. It's good to see a post about 8.1 here

Many thanks for these words, but unfortunately I'm getting more and more into deep frustration about the issues I can't fix without help.
And I know there are guys who (for example) managed the camera to work but they don't even answer my questions for help or knowledge! Everybody is playing his own game! This way nothing will be done in near future...
There seems to be a working LOS 15.1 for a device with Snapdragon 810 (Moto X Force), but as I have not enough knowledge to develop or build a ROM, this might be of no big help.

Another board, another kernel. No way to adopt it; sorry!
It's not even possible to use sources from another msm8994 board, because the used hardware is not the same; you can't use the drivers; and the drivers from z5* are incompatible with oreo or greater!

as I'm no developer (liberal arts is my job) I have feard something like that. So Project Treble is of no use to this device also. It's a shame.
Thank you that you tried to maintain the device and solve problems!

I mean if all bugs were fixed there was a Dev who was quite eager on giving this device project treble as we can see there isn't any bugs fixed yet so

Treble is just a word. As far as I understand this project, this means that hardware and drivers are separated from app development. There is a layer between "hardware/driver" and app. So, no one needs to change code for drivers; he just can focus on his app development.
The idea behind treble was to reduce the needed work for oem's to update their rom as often as google does.
But as you can see, it fails! If the layer is not supporting legacy drivers, the device is dead!
