Amazon Video - Remix Mini General

Hello, I'm new here. I've recently received my (2) Remix Minis, one in use as a desktop PC, the other as a set top box for streaming video to my TV. While I've had no problems generally streaming video using Netflix or Hulu, I can't make Amazon Video work. The thread containing all working apps says to load the Amazon App Store first and then Amazon Video, but Amazon has done away with direct loads of the App Store in favor of something called Amazon Underground. So supposedly, according to Amazon's own instructions you first download Amazon Underground and then the Amazon Video app.
This is where I run into problems. Amazon Video will not download to the mini due to Amazon's copyright protection. The message I get says that I can't use Amazon Video because of the country in which I am located. As I'm in the U.S. this should not happen. I contacted Amazon for an explanation and they said the device I'm using does not conform to their copyright protection, i.e., it's not HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) compliant.
Is there a fix for this or has anyone found a way around this? Thanks in advance for your answers.

[Q] Using rooted Fire HD outside US

Hello guys!
I need some help with new Kindle Fire Hd.
I plan to use it outside US.
But the guy from Amazon support told me that outside US no internet connection available for device.
Is it even possible to control my wi fi connection over my location?
Here is another user experience using NOT rooted device outside US and sounds like it's completely useless.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1892574
So I've decide to root my device, problem is this my first android device, and I don't quiet understand is rooting solve this problem?
I understand that rooting gave me ability to install side apps, see file system and stuff.
But what about internet using by location limitation?
So question is it possible to get internet connection on rooted device outside US?
I'm very sorry if it's noobish question, but right now I got pretty short amount of time to get "into android".
Thank You all anyways this place is great source of info!
I live outside the US, and received my Fire HD today.
While it's true that stuff like Amazon Prime doesn't work (and indeed, the Amazon Appstore as a whole), it's far from "completely useless". I rooted it pretty quickly, using the automated script posted here (and thanks the awesome community for that), installed Google Play and got pretty much everything I need on it.
Some apps from Google Play didn't play nice with the Fire at first (Skype and Facebook are two I had problems with), so I figured a kind of a workaround for the Amazon Appstore - just add a second payment method, using a test credit card number (which can be found on Paypal) and a random US address. This method allows you to download the free apps from the Appstore.
My Fire HD has been working fine since I got it 8 hours ago, so there's definitely no internet restriction of any kind if you're outside the US. The only restriction is on the Amazon content, which will hopefully be lifted in the future, as they expand their services.

AVIA: Google play versus amazon app store

I was looking to buy AVIA media player for using with my chromecast. Since, I had a few credits left in amazon app store that i can use for in-app $3 purchase, i was thinking of getting avia from amazon app store.
But........
Current Version of avia at amazon appstore: 7.0.27433
Current Version of avia at goggle play store: 7.0.27477 (updated on dec 26th)
So had a few queries...
Is avia's app on amazon meant more for kindle fire tablets and hence not suitable for android tablets? Or is it just outdated version available on amazon?

It works the same (have it on both G2 and Note 10.1 tablet), just the Amazon store version gets updated behind the Playstore version. I have Avia from amazon appstore and it still has issues...

Yes, generally speaking apps on Amazon App Store get updates later than Google Play. I don't know if Amazon has a slower approval process or what, but it has been the case for a number of apps I've looked at.
So, Google Play is my preferred app store, especially since the local Costco is selling 3-packs of $20 Google Play cards for $54 or $55.
However, if your device that doesn't have access to Google Play, or you can't get a Google Wallet, then your options are limited.
...and I love Amazon's free app of the day.
Functionality-wise, as SKyRocKeting727 said, they are meant to be the same. I have the Amazon Avia installed on my daughter's tablet as it doesn't have Play Store yet.
Amazon is giving $5 credit to be used in app store. So you can get Avia or Plex for free. This promotion ends tomorrow. The credit will be available until March, 2014.

Note that in addition to using the newest App Store version, you need to download an app that is not already in your account. Uninstalling something you already have and downloading it again does NOT count.
You should see a pop-up in the App Store that tells you that you qualified for the $5 credit.

Sorry for continuing off topic but I just tried this in the UK and what was my prize? A whole £1 credit to spend on an Amazon MP3. Bah I can't even remember the last time I used an MP3. Clearly a US only offer FYI.

Yes, it needs to be a new addition to your account, added from the most-current (7.5x) App Store version. Updates and reinstalls do not qualify.
Thanks!

I put a free app in my cart and the five bucks showed up....thanks!
I actually have access to both amazon and google play stores... but wanted to use the $5 promotion from amazon..
So the avia downloaded from amazon shows up as update required in google play store. When u click update on play store, it gives an invalid license error...
But good to know its the same app on both stores.

I noticed today that I wasn't receiving an update notification from amazon appstore that avia was able to update, it didn't even show an update available within the appstore itself. Yet, the version of Avia I had installed was older than the one that the store said was available. So in order to update to the newest version, I had to uninstall and reinstall from amzn. Just wish I would have bought it from playstore instead.
On another note, has anyone else gotten Avia stuck in the notification bar? It's persistent and can't be removed unless I restart my phone. It can't be swiped away like all other notifications, even after force closing the app. It happens when I try to click on my media server that is hooked to my router. (I've included a screenshot showing what I'm talking about)

Amazon's update notifications are a bit odd... I turned them off because all it really loved to tell me was that I had new apps to install. Yes Amazon, I wish I could install all 875 apps (Free App of the Day - it's not my fault!)...
Anyway, the way you're meant to update an Amazon Appstore app is:
Launch Amazon Appstore
Tap the Amazon Appstore title to get the menu (if this doesn't work you need to update Amazon Appstore itself, which usually takes two passes - first for notification to download, second to actually apply the update after Appstore is killed)
Tap My Apps
Tap Updates
Choose app to update. If the app doesn't show up, tap the refresh circle button at the upper right and wait...
Uninstalling and reinstalling also works, and arguably may be faster, depending...
I have never seen that weird stuck notification you have there.

Same here. Other Amazon apps show update but not Avia. Maybe it's because of in app purchase. I only found out about an update through this forum.
As for stuck Avia notification, l found that only happens when Avia can't play a file and gets an error when casting to Chromecast. The solution is to play a compatible file to Chromecast. Then pause it. Now remove from notification by hitting x.

Ain't that a PITA, you would think that when the app is closed out of recent apps it would remove the notification. At least that is an easier work around than a full reboot. Thanks
Amazon Appstore showed me an Avia update where it's supposed to be (My Apps > Updates), but I had to refresh before it showed up.

Amazon is behind on many apps. The game Magic 2014 had some installation problems on my Nexus 7 from Play Store but worked on Amazon so I went and did my in-app purchases there. Unfortunately now, Play Store has version 1.4.0 and Amazon has had 1.3.0 for many weeks.

This seems to be a general theme for Amazon Appstore vs Google Play. Not sure why Amazon is slower. Maybe more bureaucracy?

Perhaps. I know that the actual APK file in Amazon has some changes to include their DRM.
Or maybe devs think of Amazon as an afterthought and are lazy in submitting the apps.

Anyone know if this is legit?
What's the difference between downloading chrome browser versus downloading this third party app? Seems unnecessary, and kind of sketchy.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Oh, it's legit, but once you download it, if you want to stream anything other than an MP3, you need to pay!!
But the funny thing is, you can't even pay for it because the page it take you too, doesn't exist!!
So, all in all, it looks nice, looks like something i would use to stream local content, but at this moment, it's utterly useless.
Doesn't even give a free trial.

I've been using Wondershare, which I guess is the beta version of this program. Performance is much better than tab-casting through Chrome. It's equivalent to using Avia/Allcast on your phone to cast a video file.
It has been in beta test since early March - see the previous threads on this forum. The advantage over browser plug-ins is that it can transcode many file types using the standard ffmpeg library built in to the app. It's more successful with low bit-rate video files.
However there were a number of issues in the beta test, and Wondershare didn't do much to fix them, so you might want to check if the 1.0 release is any better:
- It crashes on startup in the DeviceDiscovery.dll if there is a Roku device present on the network.
- It automatically indexes all content on all drives on your system rather than allowing you to specify particular folders. In fact there are no options.
- It launches one of those "helper" apps that stays running all the time in the background even after you exit this app.
Wondershare is one of a group of brand names used by a large Chinese software company (others including Aiseesoft, Aimersoft, iSkysoft). Unclear why they use many different brand names, but they have a lot of media-related products, and many of them are popular and have been around for years.

[Q] How to spoof my device for Amazon's Appstore?

I'm looking to download Kindle-only apps for my Nexus 4 from the Amazon App Store, especially GTA: San Andreas which I have bought. Of course when my Nexus 4 isn't supported, I need to spoof my device somehow so it would look like a Kindle from Amazon's perspective.
I have tried editing my build.prop to match both Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX but that didn't fool Amazon. I also tried to fake my GPU & CPU information for Appstore using GLTools v1.07 (graphics optimizer) 03/06/2014 with no results.
Do you guys have any information how Amazon determines your device type? Or could somebody of you upload the .apk for GTA: San Andreas (it is under 100MB, just an installer)? I have a license for it, so the downloader would work
I am also looking for the answer of the same question.
Yes, appstore downloaded apk would be great since we have a licensed (but undownloadable) copy
I'd like to know this too. I was able to get GTA3 to work on my S3 a long time ago but I can't do the same for GTA:SA. In the meantime, I found this on Amazon:

it happened to me. i'd like to install some facebook game, especially zynga poker, and the result still no luck. is there anyway to cheat amazon appstore so we can download the kindle fire tablet edition apps.
I need to do this for my shield TV, I need to somehow spoof my device to get fire TV apps

request: Roblox Amazon edition apk

I'm not looking for cracked apps or anything. My kids are using an android app to earn amazon gift cards. The only way to convert that to Robux (in game money) is to use a Kindle fire HD or better. I'm attempting to use my FireTV Stick since I don't have a kindle fire hd. I can side load apps but I can't find a version of Roblox in apk form that let's me use amazon credit to buy Robux. They all want Google Play store when trying to buy Robux. The version that gets installed using Kindle Fire HD is the only one that I've ever found that let's you do that.
Does anyone have a link to the Amazon version of Roblox apk? I think that will work on the FireTV stick. Not to play the game but I think it will work to convert amazon money to Robux. I would even be happy to try a titanium backup if someone was willing.
The game is free by the way so I'm not asking for anything illegal or shady.
Let me clarify a bit:
- There isn't a version of Roblox available through the normal Amazon FireTV search menu.
- I have to sideload Roblox using a downloaded apk. When trying to buy Robux I am presented with Google Play Store option. I need the option to buy using Amazon acct.
- I am in the Kindle Fire HD forum asking for someone to share a free download of Roblox from the Amazon App Store. This version let's me use Amazon acct. to pay for Robux.
Nobody wants to help throw me a bone here?
So I found a Kindle Fire HD and grabbed the Roblox apk off of it and installed it on my FireStick. No go. Oh well.
Lonely thread
Why did you dig this up? With only just some clicks Roblox apknite, you will get the apk file.
