Screen protector and performance - Mate 8 Accessories

I seldom use cases or screen protectors, simply because for me it is like buying a beautiful couch and then wrapping it in plastic. It will stay pristine forever but look like ****. If a small bump and a small scratch is the price to pay for using the phone as intended, then so be it.
It took me a while to notice that the phone actually came with a screen protector on it and it really hasn't bothered me. My question is for those who have removed it. Is there any difference in screen performance? If so then I will remove it but if there is no noticeable difference I will leave it on.

Removed it...
...to put on a tempered glass version
Without issues :good:

The way touchscreens work is due to heat detection. Wherever the screen detects the most heat is where a touch will be applied. The only difference between having a screen protector or not is the milliseconds it takes for the heat to transfer through your screen protector. Performance of the screen will not decline in any noticeable manner. But the phone has corning gorilla glass 4 on it. I dont have a screen protector and my phone never scratches. I do recommend a case though. This guy https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01AFIUL28/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1 is absolute bliss for a case. Tight fit and has a smalk bump to ensure the screen is lifted off any surface and gives the fingerprint scanner a small dip into the phone that i love the feel of. The chassis if the phone is metal but i5 will dent and scratch easily. Tight fit clear shockproof gel cases are the best. Those otterboxes choke phones and trap heat. It fried a galaxy s5 i had so i understand the whole couch metaphor perfectly.

LOL no. That is not how touchscreens work.
That was most funny thing I read this month. +1
For your information: heat has NOTHING to do with touchscreens.
And no, whether you have a screen protector or not does not influence the screen performance.

Yes, touchscreens use heat detection. Please look it up. Theres a small film that detects heat in most smartphones to allocate a proper touch input. Dont be a jerk about things you think you know everything about. This is a forum not kindergarten please be more mature about your posts or i will report you. Im not offended by your post but i do ask you treat a technology forum seriously. If you wish to behave this way please purchase an xbox 360 and take it out there.

@rogerbcn yea my phone actually came with one of those out of the box. Its just preference i do not like them. I like to hold my phone sideways upside down and all around the place so having that flap is not my thing. I feel bad for not using it because it has glass for the screen protector and some nice leathery material.

In electrical engineering, capacitive sensing is a technology, based on capacitive coupling, that can detect and measure anything that is conductive or has a dielectric different from air.
Source: Wikipedia - Capacitive sensing
In summary, it uses electrical conductivity to complete a circuit, not heat.

I think the surface of the plastic screen protector is not that smooth compared with glass. Sometimes it kinda sticks so it does not let your finger slide that well. I will most likely remove it soon.

Just got 2 glass screen protectors from China.

Despite the camera hole is not 100% centered, it's OK.

Before I used the "all over screen" glass, but incorrect placement sometimes has a problem with the sensors. Now use only "cut" glass.

[Q] Otterbox owners do you have this like I do?

Hi everyone. Today I got my otterbox defender case. Everything good except for the screen protector. It has an area in the middle, which when touches to the screen makes it appear to have something like an Oil stain on the asphalt:

Nope. That's not normal!
I removed the screen protector from mine anyway.

Yes I do too.
I have had a my defender for about a week and I have had that same problem since about the third day.
yeah, it looks like an oil stain but i think it's actually electricity or something. the way to fix it is to either add a screen protector or to very lightly dust the area with baby powder.

If you pull the screen protector out of the Defender case, then if you drop the phone on it's face you may break the screen instead of the Defender protector. The Amazon review has a complaint from someone who had this very thing happen - he was complaining that one could not order a replacement screen protector (and this after it saved his phone)...

If i got you right then that is moisture that builds up and you just open it a bit against a clean breeze i.e partly open the case to allow wind to flow through and hold it out of your car window while you drive around. The wind will pick up all the moisture

Logically, if you're dropping your phone in a fashion where some corner is impacting the screen, then it'd go right through that plastic either way.
The plastic is basically a scratch prevention device. Any serious impact would pass through it like a second board under a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick.

I'm just quoting the experience of a reviewer I read. His otterbox screen protector broke, but the screen on his HD2 did not. The fact that the otterbox screen protector broke indicates it is not merely plastic.
I don't know if I agree with your statement. If you look closely, the otterbox plastic protector has what appears to be reinforcements running through it; it is not just plain plastic. It only shows up in certain lights and at certain angles.

I also use a screen protector, because it cuts down on the problem of having the plastic touch the glass screen.
I own also an Otterbox Defender Case und use it with HD2, without problem as described above. I use the original screen protector slide on HD2 (between original screen and Otterbox screen protectr)

Review: Martin Field's Screen Protector (Best I've Ever Used!)

I purchased this based on some feedback I had read one some other forums. I have tried nearly every major screen protector out there (Spigen, RearthUSA, Incipio, PowerSupportUSA, Switcheasy, BodyGuardz, XO Skins, Best Skins Ever, a ton of cheap ones off Amazon, Zagg, etc.). Up until this point, I had always found the Ultra Crystal from Spigen to be the best overall. Not anymore.
Before I get started I want to mention that the Martin Fields Screen protectors are not cheap. One screen protector for the Nexus 7 is $29.99 ($34.99 for one iPad protector and $16.99 for one Galaxy Nexus protector)and it only comes with one screen protector and a set of instructions. That's it. I will say that the packaging is very environmentally friendly for those that care (makes no difference to me).
One issue I've always found to be a huge problem with these dry, crystal clear screen protectors (Again, think Spigen Ultra Crystal) is that they show fingerprints so easily that it really can become a huge nuisance and to my surprise this one doesn't show much at all. I would say it's nearly as good at resisting fingerprints as a matte finish screen protector.
A very innovative feature this screen protector offers is that it is completely removable. They include a Mylar sheet that you can stick it to if you need to take it off. Just apply a small piece of scotch tape at the bottom corner and slowly pull to remove it. This does bring up the biggest problem that I have with this protector though. It is somewhat brittle. It will crease if you aren't careful with it.
Turn on a steamy shower and install. Be patient as these things are a perfect fit and will require some patience to install.
Quick Summary:
PROS:
As clear as any I've ever used
Does not pick up oils like most clear, dry application screen protectors generally do
Feels as close to glass as anything I've ever used
Reusable
Covers entire screen
Comes with a Camera Lens cover as well
CONS:
Not cheap. If you purchase directly from MartinFields.com it is $16.99 + $4.99 shipping. Be aware of fakes on Amazon.
Doesn't come with much. Just a simple paper package, a screen protector and a Mylar sheet to apply it to if you decide to take it off and use it later.
Fragile, it will crease if you aren't careful

Hahahaha! That is hilarious. They do show fingerprints like a lot of dry application protectors but they don't have that blue smear effect ou get (Ultra Crystal).
So I purchased one of these and installed it this afternoon. All is well except three of the corners have a bubble and appear slightly lifted. The protector appears to be installed properly and no amount of rubbing with a credit card or fingers can get these edges to stick. Fwiw, I tried a reinstallation and have not touched the adhesive side.

How easy to install screen protector like this on Nexus 7?
I have concern for dust particles, bubbles and imperfection because 7" is not quite small.
And how is it with the touch, swiping, etc. still good?
If you can make some photos showing from corner to corner, that would be awesome.
Thanks for your review btw, I am considering to use this MF screen protector + some kind of back-case ala Incipio Feather for phones
I have installed probably 10 different protectors on devices of various shapes and sizes, and I find that with patience, the bigger the device, the easier it is to get the protector aligned properly. But it does take patience as you can spend 15-30 minutes just fishing dust out with scotch tape without getting fingerprints on the back side of the protector to get a perfect, bubble free adhesion.
I gave up on running a hot shower while doing it as it just makes the dust harder to find if it gets on the screen anyways, and for me it always seems to.

[Q] Should I keep the plastic wrapping on my tablet as a screen protector?

Since my tablet is rather brand new, I decided not to remove the plastic wrapping that has 90% of the tablet covered up.
I managed to poke a few holes for my headphones jack, the USB socket for my USB cable to charge and move files around, and the last two slot holes for my keyboard dock.
I wanted to know if this is okay as an alternative to dirt-cheap screen protectors for finger smudges and small drips of water?
Below are some of the pictures:

And here's the many fingernail scratches the plastic wrapping had endured from my usages.
Why are all the screen protectors jerky and rubbery? Skinomi, ZAgg, fosmon. Anyone care to add one to the list. Go right ahead.
I honestly don't know what it is with screen protectors I've tried.
The one I had for the tf101 was fine. The fosmon for the n7 was OK.
Ive found just giving it a good rub down with a microfibre cloth is good. Skinning it is cool looking but kind of flaky. It already looks cool. A nice case or hopefully some decent screen protector will come alongalong but don't spend too much money on a screen protector cause I for me its been 3 strikes. Or maybe I'm not getting it.
So, the plastic wrapping that came with the tablet is good enough for the job? I shouldn't buy screen protectors?

The wrapping is crap mate. Peel it off. This device doesn't need a screen protector IMO.
I agree. Screen protectors are like wrapping that new comfy couch in plastic to protect it (uhuuuuu!) totally ruining your enjoyment of it! Tear the wrapper off and enjoy the gorgeous screen, get a microfiber cloth for the fingerprints - as long as you don't drag keys or screwdrivers across the glass nothing will happen to it.

Hm...
My last experience with a Corning Gorilla Glass without a screen protector for my HTC phone resulted me having multiple tiny scratches made with just my fingernails scratching the surface while I was scrolling up and down on a website. So this is why I'm a bit worried.
No! keep it on! Put the tablet back into its original packaging box after every usage for best protection too. Just joking.. Honestly, just go naked.. Enjoy your device at its best.
Ok, keeping it on. Thanks for your suggestion.

Boo.... Peel it off. Seriously it doesn't need it on
I have this fosmon screen protector. Was a set of 3 for about $8 I would have to agree naked is best but I decided to give the second fosmon a try after reading that some of the screen protectors have to cure or set before they harden. Not sure if this is the case after the hell I've been through with the first ones. This one is OK. Has some bubbles I didn't put it on properly but feels decent. I'm getting a replacemnet from Skinomi so ill be giving that another try then let you know. Then if it is rubbery does not cure or harden then ill put the 3rd fosmons on. But Naked is better. I actually kind of like the screen protector. Then I know its safe.
The 700 fits the 701.
i bought the screen protector from caseen. it`s good and i prefer the protector on, sure it reduces the color a touch, and feels a little different but a good one will do wonders when you have had it 6 months and there's feint touches showing. because chances are they would be there on the screen if it didn`t have the protector.
however since my tablet is in repair and i lost the second backup sheet in the pack i now have no protector i guess when it comes back.
I`m also assuming it will come back just as fault as the original so i am therefore not bothered about the protector,
i will wait for this trio book and perhaps upgrade to that after waiting a few months and seeing how it goes games wise and build quality wise. I wonder how a celeron performs graphically in an android?

[Guide?] Re-applying worn out fingerprint resistant coating on the cheap!

As you may know, most smartphones these days use Gorilla Glass for the digitizer panel. And being digitizers - devices that accept input via a user's finger - fingerprints can be a problem. This is why Gorilla Glass has a neat nanotech oleophobic coating that makes interacting with the screen smoother to the touch and can be easily cleaned of prints.
However, after 6-12 months of daily use, this coating can wear off due to scratches or simply just by using it. As a result, the screen may not feel as smooth as it used to when it was new, and smudges can be very hard to clean off. This coating can be re-applied using aftermarket kits, such as the Fusso one:
{

}
But this kit usually costs about $30 for a 5 mL bottle. which is only good for one application for a phone about the size of an iPhone.
The other option is to use a plastic screen protector film. No need for a picture; they're ubiquitous. These protect the fingerprint resistant coating from wearing off, but also defeats the purpose of having a fingerprint resistant coating in the first place. Besides, they scratch very easily and ruin the appearance of an otherwise crystal clear display. Who would want to do that?
I use a tempered glass screen protector that supposedly has an oleophobic coating, but that quickly wore off after about 6 months of use. So I applied a matte screen protector on top of the tempered glass protector. Dat graininess tho!
Anyway, I came across 'Rain Clear'; a liquid designed to be applied onto car windshields to increase visibility in rainy weather. Raindrops bead up and roll off by themselves when the car is moving, keeping the windshield clear. Basically, it's a DIY hydrophobic coating. I bought this 135 mL bottle for $7 from Kmart (in Australia). I'm sure a similar product can be bought at your local variety discount store.
Application is pretty straightforward. I'm going to try it on a non-original Nokia X6 screen first.
Drop a few drops of it onto a piece of folded microfibre cloth, then rub the glass surface in a circular motion until a "haze" is formed on the whole screen.
I used this kind of cloth:
This is the haze:
After complete coverage is achieved, clean the haze off with a cloth (preferably not the same one used to apply the coating) dampened with water until it is clear.
The results (before/after):
And this is on the Note 2:
It makes quite the difference! Water droplets are a lot more spherical now, and it cleans off much easier, too. Now, let's try it on a STAR N9589 - a common Note 2 knockoff that definitely doesn't have a Gorilla Glass panel.
I'm going to apply it to the top half of the screen for comparison purposes.
Such wow!
When using the screen of the Note 2, it certainly feels smoother than before, but only about 50% as smooth as an original screen. Still better than nothing! I applied the coating two days ago. Let's see how long it will last!
Just watch out for what you use on your screen. Some products will burn off what's left of the ophleobic coating , leaving you in a worse state.

I know, that's why I'm only using it on the glass screen protector and not on the Gorilla Glass itself.
Update: The coating seems to slightly wear off in about a week, probably because it wasn't designed to be touched by fingers all the time. This time, I've cleaned the screen (protector, rest assured) with methylated spirits before reapplying the Rain Clear. Once a week isn't that bad, since one 135 mL bottle is good for about 15 applications. 15/7 = about $2.15 7/15 = about $0.47 per application and overall it should last about 4 months. Fusso Smartphone has been reported to last about 6 months, but costs $30.
Worth it!

Xiaomi Mi CC9 / Mi 9 Lite screen protector

I'm surprised at how good this screen protector is. It comes with a plastic guide that goes on your phone and makes sure the glass lines up perfectly. It comes with 2 kits that include wet and dry cleaning cloths, dust removal stickers, and the glass screen protectors.
This package also includes a protective sticker for the back of the phone. I'm using a case, so I'm not going to use the sticker, but it's nice that they included it.
Finger print scanner works like normal. My phone case fits like normal and I can barely see that there's a screen protector on my phone. This is a way better purchase than I expected. Much higher quality than I expected.
The only thing I'm unsure of is the protector for the camera. I haven't been able to test it out in daylight to see if it shows up in the photos. Only 1 lens protector is included. My case sort of protects the lenses, so worst case I just remove the lens protector.

Do you guys realize it's kinda pointless to use screen protectors on Gorilla Glass 5, not to mention camera lens which is covered with sapphire glass.. you wouldn't be able to scratch it even if you tried.
i am more worried about dropping it, that amoled costs about half the phone in here

Best combination for me is this screen protector + xundd beatle case.
