HTC Backup & Sync
HTC Sync Manager
HTC File Manager
HTC Setup
News Republic
Polaris Office
Kid's Mode
Dr. Eye
P's: Do you know which directory "HTC Calendar" is located? I wanted to delete taht too.

Calendar is located in /system/priv-app/Calendar
yes these apps are deletable
but if you deleted HTC Setup and then do a factory reset , i think the will not finish booting

Change the value of "ro.sf.lcd-density" to the one you want.
By doing so, you must have a S-Offed phone.

Remove the corresponding folders in /system/app or /system/priv-app.
In doing so, make sure you have a S-OFFed and rooted phone.

How to add Hero widgets and gapps after an install?

Ive been looking in the threads for a while and find hints and clues, but cannot get a definitive solution to my problem:
Im using CRISPhero.zip rom and love its speed, but miss some google apps like calendar and a few unincluded HTC hero widgets like picture album and calendar.
So I thought Id try at first just to add the calendar stuff:
I have tried pushing Calendar.apk, CalendarProvider.apk, htccalendarwidgets.apk (as well as all their .odex files) to /data/app_s
With the .odex files in the directory, i get a boot loop. Without the odex files, the phone runs fine but no apps or widgets have been added. WHAT AM I MISSING HERE? How do I install these widgets?
a little more info
I should also add that I tried opening each of these .apks in the app manager but simply got a message saying they could not be installed on this device. This IS a HERO rom, so that shouldnt be the issue, I dont think.
sorry, but you posted in the wrong section
Id like to know this as well....but like the post above it is the wrong section to post this.
ok
What section should it be posted in?
get root explorer and place the apks in the correct directory thats the easiest way....but if the apk has an odex with it the apk is no good try dloading another rom & taking the apk from their
being a question...surely it makes sense that it should be asked in the QUESTIONS and answers section
dont start a new thread there, il request this one gets moved
will widgets show up then?

So I'm assuming the appropriate directory for hero widgets /data/app_s, right?
Is there another step after that, like installing with app manager or should the automatically show up on next boot?
Try a newer hero, they are unodexed. Most come with what your looking for anyways.
Some success, but...
I've had some success pushing an UNOBEXEDCalendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk to /data/app_s. I got them from the KiNgxKxKlair-Hero-Eclair-v1.0.zip Rom. Now the apps are listed in the app menu and work properly!
***BUT*** Gcal won't sync. Under the data sync settings, I am unable to make gCal sync. Contacts and Gmail sync just fine, but even with the calendar box checked, Calendar will not sync.
I suspect this is due to a setting with the ROM (which originally did not have calendar installed), but I have no idea where to adjust this setting.
Any suggestions?

Well, seeing as your pushing eclair apps into what I think is a cupcake build.... I'll let you finish that statement
I assumed the issue isn't with the apps themselves, as they are functioning fine (and I believe the rom is not a TRUE eclair rom, anyway--just bits & pieces). I think the problem is that since the original rom did not include calendar apps, that the calendar sync function has been disabled. I want to re-enable it.

Original Browser hangs up...

Hi,
i got my Optimux 2x speed yesterday.
While playing suddenly my browser is not starting up. it crashes as soon as i press the icon.
see youtube movie for similar problem:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-jCHPJpTiE
I tried a factory reset, cleared the cache. but still is crashing.
anybody an idea how to fix it?
Maybe the original LG Rom wasnt flashed properly.
If even with factory reset it's still there, its supporting this theory.
The only solution I see is replacing for new one or wait for Gingerbread/Custom ROMs here on XDA.

5 crashes of the 'lgHome app' ??

have you try to replace the LG Laucher with LauncherPro ??
and ~~~ as i see in taiwan forum ~~ none of this problem have been found in the try function ~~~
(sorry for my poor english)
I tried the LauncherPro, and also here it is crashing. same message like before.
Is there no option to completely overwrite the firmware? just like a HTC telephone?

Read here about apk. You have to copy apk file to /system/app with rootexplorer
I downloaded the browser.apk. just renamed the zip file to apk.
with super manager and root I copied the browser.apk file into the system/app folder.
and everything is working like a charm!
now quickly make a backup before it is not working again.
thanks!!!
edit:
found a small problem.
The icon of the browser is now located at the downloaded apps in the programs menu. and has the blue (N) in the icon. how can i remove the blue (N) from the (N)ew program.
Not really sure,
But when you use titanium backup you can freeze and defreeze a program after that he'll put it back in the orginal folder (system tools). That worked for me at least
it fixed the problem with the browser icon!
now only the superuser icon has a blue N. but this one is not in the titanium backup list.
hi,
i can't remove the original Browser Bookmarks, vodafone, chat .... I don't know , please help me!

What APK's are secure to remove.

Let's make a list of which apk's we can remove without the phone giving forcing close issues....
Code:
AnalogueAlarmWidget.apk
AnalogueClockWidget.apk
AppAdvisor_v1.5.78_production_signed_aligned.apk
CarHome.apk
com_lge_christmassnowcity.apk
com_lge_lgfirework2.apk
cyon.apk
DigitalAlarmWidget.apk
DigitalClockWidget.apk
EmailWidget.apk
F-Secure_Mobile_Security_Android22.apk
LGEmail.apk
LGLauncher.apk
MessageWidget.apk
PreloadedApp.apk
SNS.apk
Stk.apk
WorldClockWidget.apk
"App Advisor" and "Preloaded Apps 1.0" are fine to freez on uninstall from Titanium. no problems.

What is cyon.apk?
And why is it "safe" to fremover the og launcher? At least you should put your launcher of choice in system/app first....

What if you just remove the above apps without backup of them.
Do you brick the phone if hard reset is done ?

Nothing will happen, you just will miss apps.
When you hard reset your phone it wiil just delete user data and cache partition.
Any changes to system folder means you make changes to rom and cannot be undone without reflashing or restore backup.
Be careful with deleting of apps! If something goes wrong and the phone is not booting we don't have any global rom and flashing tool for now.

Just freez them with Titanium backup if you want the free mem.... space wise deleting them is not really nessecary.... or pull them out with adb first.
Some Insight
Let's work top down guys, no panic, no alarm.
There are "system apps" and there are "system apps"
Most people refer to any app that's installed on the system partition as a "system app" but the real definition of a "system app" is one that is signed with a root or platform key. This key allows the app to interact with the OS at the lowest level, manipulating resources and other apps.
It's safe to remove either
You can remove either types of these apps but some may be dependencies for other apps and removing these can cause Force Closes.
A Factory Reset does not touch the system partition
As stated above, any modifications you make to the system partition (/system/*) will withstand a Factory Reset. This is why root still works after a Factory Reset.
Safe-to-remove apps
I personally provided the list above and can confirm that these apps are safe to remove but you need to be aware:
Some apps are required (like a Launcher), if you remove it, make sure you have an alternative installed.
Some apps are not available on the Market, you may not be able to substitute them.
Make a backup before you delete any apps!
Note: For critical apps, like a Launcher you *must* have one on your system partition! Do *not* remove your only Launcher from the system partition!
Additional Apps
A lot more can be safely removed from the system partition but they do not consume real-time resources and therefore there is no substantial benefit in removing them. I will post a full schedule of these apps later if somebody doesn't beat me to it.
Enjoy.
More safe to remove: All widgets (loads of them), livewallpaper, protips, maps, lg memo
instead of making backup of the APK files with ADB... can't i just use root explorer to copy the APK files to a folder on my internal sd or computer ??

Errug bedankt ! Nice overview.
Since space isn't an issue just freezing them with Titanium Backup should free up the memory as well right?
I'll be waiting for a conclusive list of "freezable" apps. ( And patiently await a custom booloader so we can get some really good custom roms.)
@Xmoo
Haven't see inside the ROM but I assume googlefeedback.apk is in there.
Wouldn't hurt killing that to.
I wish I've red this thread before tinkering around witgh my phone. Seem to have kinda bricked it after owning it for 3 days.
I was playing around with it trying to get rid of the facebook, twitter & myspace for LG apps but I couldn't figure out what they were called in the Titanium Backup Pro list så i backed up LG Home (or was it just called LG) and naively thought the worst thing that could happen was that I would have to do a hard factory reset if anyting went wrong.
But as the android n00b that I am (first android phone) I should have known that LG Home is the launcher! So know I have a phone I can check emails on but if I go past the startup guide it crasches and im stuck at the startup LG logo until I do another hard factoryreset.
Anyone know if the default image/ROM is soon to be released or should I take a shot and send my phone in for repair hoping that they never pick up on what I did?
Sorry of this is offtopic.
There are a couple of threads with similar problems, so search a bit and you should find a way to fix it

Have someone send you the lg home apk via email and install, or perhaps another launcher if you want. You'll get the "Install ?" question when you open the mail.. do so and you have a launcher again.

Check this thread out:

When I check out my Active Services I can see the following programs: Whatsapp services (2), Twitter (1), Sim-toolkit (1), Google Services Framework (2), Media (without anything beneath it), Music (2), com.lge.omadmclient (1), Bluetooth Share (2) weird cause bluetooth is OFF! , Wheather & clock update (1), On-Screen phone (1), DRM Service (1), Maps (1), LG PC Suite ObexManager (1), and the Gingerbread Keyboard (1).
Big list in comparison to my G1 and I guess there can be SOME things deleted. Altough I don't know which ones. A guess:
1. Media (what does this do?)
2. Music (I disabled the music bar, and don't want that service running all the time!)
3. com.lge.omadmclient (what's this?)
4. Bluetooth Share... weird thing because I have my bluetooth OFF all the time... how to get rid of these?
5. Wheather & clock updater. I don't use that widget so...?
6. On-Screen phone, what does it do?
7. DRM Service
8. LG PC Suite ObexManager?
Can somebody please tell me if I can get rid of (some) of these services, and if so, which programs to freeze Thanks!

Can someone please tell me what am i doing wrong and why does the folder disappear on restart?

You can't write files to /system unless you have an unsecured kernel, otherwise all files will be deleted after reboot like you are experiencing. Weather animations are stored in /data/preload btw.

ok, thanks for the info. I copied the files in data/preload and restarted the phone and it doesn't work. I rooted my phone a week ago and I noticed the weather wasn't animated anymore and I searched the forum for a solution and this thread said "solved" and that was the solution to copy them in system/media/weather/. Do you have any idea why isn't it working?

I guess it depend on what sw version you are. On dev edition sw they are located in /data/preload. If you lost you weather animation, I guess its because you have unlocked bootloader. When you unlock the bootloader, /data get wiped including the /preload folder where stock apps like calculator, flashlight etc are stored and where the weather animations are stored. Don't forget to set permission to rw-r-r for all files in /data/preload
Same issue for unlock bootloader

no. Factory reset wipe user data stored in /data partition. Root files are stored in /system partition so a factory reset will not unroot the phone. Relocking the bootloader (and/or factory reset) will not restore wiped apps (apps stored in /data/preload) caused by htcdev.com bootloader unlock. All files in /data/preload must be restored manually or you have to reset your phone back to 100% stock using a ruu, a nandroid backup, a stock odexed rom or a guru reset rom.
Got it!

Google Calendar not working - Please help

Hey guys,
I installed the calendar from Lilipop 5.0 and it is giving me a heck of a lot of issues.
The way that I installed was:
Note that I did not have Google Calendar installed before, only the Samsung Calendar.
1. Convert to user app: Calender 4.4.4, Calendar 1.0, Calendar 1.0 (yes I have 2 of them), and Google Calendar Sync
2. Backup / Verify / Uninstall all 4 items
3. Put the new calendar apk file in System/Priv-Apps and rebooted the phone
It installed upon boot up but worked poorly.
I now want to go back to the old calendar, so I
1. Converted to user app: Google Calendar 5.0
2. Backup / Verify / Uninstall
3. Reboot
4. Go to Play Store and download current available Google Calendar
After installation, it crashes on me and does not work. I restored Google Calendar Sync which I removed before, but still not working.
Can anyone please assist with this.
I didnt install this, but when you put the new .apk into place, did you make sure the permissions were set the same way the old file was?
its sounds like that might be your problem...

I think I just set it to 766. All 3 options check for the first column, and the other two columns are blank.
I just checked my System/Apps folder and System/Priv-Apps and I do not see Google Calendar Sync, not sure why considering it appears in TB.

look in the folder(s) where you replaced files, and make sure the files you put in there have the same exact permissions as the other ones that are in there..if you change anything , save then reboot and see if that helps.
if not, I am not sure what else it could be..sorry..
