Having Issue With Stock Contacts App! - Sony Xperia X Performance Questions & Answers

For some reason, when I try to edit my contacts in the stock Contacts app, I get that stupid "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped" message. Does anyone know why this is happening, and perhaps how to fix it? I tried deleting the data & cache and force stopping it, but nothing works. I did end up getting a more stable contacts app called Contacts +, but I'd still like to get this resolved anyway.
Thanks.

I can edit contacts within stock app. Not sure why its force closing on you.

I C. That's cool.
I may just use Xperia Companion to reinstall the software then.
But will using Xperia Companion to "repair" the phone's software mean it installs the INTERNATIONAL firmware, or the US? lol If I get the US firmware then I'd have to get the software to reinstall the fingerprint software too b/c we both know Sony Mobile idiotically decided not to give the US version that.

It will install whatever you currently have on the device.

Ok thanks Augie!
I went ahead and used XC to do all that to resolve a few issues. Hoping it will do so.

I'm having the same issues, no way to reinstall the app either I've cleared the data but nothing. Maybe it's a region of use thing? Maybe the way contact files save in the US?

Yeah....... it could be any of those. It was suggested to me to just wait and Sony may very likely send an update to fix it. I'm using Contacts + for now and it's been working just fine.

I have the same issue on the contacts app. I have both the X and XP but somehow X works perfectly but not the XP. I even did a repair with XC and it still doesn't work.

gclancer,
Ok so it's not just me. lol I also did a repair with XC and yeah still not letting me edit contacts. I'm not sure what to do but for now I'm just gonna use Contacts + until it's fixed. If you figure out a way to fix it, please let us know.
I also notice Google Messenger, which always worked before on my Z3 and S7, doesn't work so well for MMS messages on the XP. In group texts, the recipients I send to would get my group response AND the same response would be sent to each one individually. But I went back to using Textra which is also great and now at least that issue's been resolved.

Tks Rockstar. I am actually using simpler dialer and contact app for now. I just find it stupid that my X works perfectly and the more expensive XP doesnt. Hopefully an update will fix it.

Yeah that is some BS. One guy on here who bought the int'l XP from the same retailer as I did said he doesn't have that problem anymore after using XC (he did initially though), but we still do. Don't get it, but yeah.........hopefully an update is sent out SOON by Sony to resolve this matter.

So I loaded both the X and XP with the same apps and it turns out the speed difference are pretty minimal despite having different processors. I am seriously considering selling the XP and just keep the X. But yeah hopefully an update will be out soon to fix your problem. I am using the X now and maybe its a keeper for me lol

My contacts app is working fine on the xp. Granted I started the phone through initial set up as a new phone. Not restoring any back ups during the initial process. I went to the contacts app and it was working correctly then I imported from Google account after the fact.

gclancer,
Yeah but for me, it's not just about the speed. I love having the IP65/68 rating as I sometimes have to take calls while in the shower (I leave phone near bathroom door, not in shower lol). I'll step out and take them with wet hands and face......so for me, the XP is a must since the X doesn't have that feature. Being slightly faster is not a big deal, you're right there........but I'd still prefer it.

MGS,
Yeah the 2nd time around (maybe 1st too?), which was when I used XC, I made sure to choose the option to set up as a new phone too. I didn't really have any backups to restore anyway, so this was the only option. Yet when I went to the Contacts app it still wouldn't let me edit random contacts, though everything else worked fine with it. So not sure but since everything else is fine with phone, I'm just gonna let it go since I now use Contacts + anyway and it's much more stable.

I have been having the same issues. I have tried factory resetting it different ways. The sony bridge repair tool does not even list the Xperia X Performance on its list of phones yet. So, that's a bummer. There's this site that gives you 4 ways to do a hard reset. However, on the 4th method where you are asked to download Sony's flash tool, the X Performance isn't even listed on the supported devices.
I do wish that Sony sends a fix immediately.

mac,
I returned the phone (which had other issues too) to my Amazon seller (NGP) and the replacement they sent me this morning came ALREADY set up. Normally I would be mad about that, but the Contacts app WORKED! Didn't close out when I tried to edit it. I wanted to make sure it was fixed though, so I did a factory reset, and ughh........ it's not working now again. I e-mailed NGP and asked them to tell me what they did. I hope they can tell me so I can do it too and fix this. I will keep this thread posted.
You're right, it's very annoying! MGS told me he factory resetted but didn't use backup during setup or even log in with Google account, and it worked for him. But when I tried that........nope! Even tried creating a new account, and nope! Very weird, but again I hope NGP can tell me what they did.

Mine seem to work alright, I can edit the phone number and or contact details.

Has anyone figured out the reboot problems?

I thought that by rooting and putting a new ROM on my phone that it'd help out my problems of it rebooting randomly and having a non responsive internet 50% of the time but it hasn't. Anyone else having these problems with their Thrills? About to go back to the iPhone even though i really don't want to
I have occasional reboots, but not often. I know mine is more tinkering with my kernel.
i only had mine reboot once only cuz i killed gta3 the rong way and it crashed
yeah mine does it any time that it has to think about something... i go to post something on facebook and about half the time it freezes and then reboots. I think i've pulled the battery out a couple dozen times this last week because of it just stopping on me

There is no wrong way to close an App/Game.
It's the developer of the app that causes the problem.
ok now i'm finally getting it to where it's saying different apps (mostly clockworkmod) are failing and to either force close or cancel...
Well I jumped out of gta3 with the home button and tryed to go in app manager to close it and probly ran out of ram and crashed instead of backing out of gta3 with the game menu

I just wish Android OS suspended everything when you push the home button and had push notifications instead of persistent checking. All this background running is killing our batteries and causing lockups.

True multitasking has been built into Android (similar to Linux, which it is based) from day one. Here to say it, but that would be a longshot. Best bet would be to become more scrupulous on what apps you download and more critical of the makers when their programs go rogue. Plus turning background data off in settings can help. Fyi.
Note: I don't want you to feel as if I'm being overly critical or a douche here, just realistic with what we have and what we are dealing with.

I hear ya, I know its wishful thinking. I just wish android was as efficient as iOS. Android having Backgrounding from the start was a big perk, but I gotta hand to apple for seeing how inefficient it was and hold off until they found a better solution. Android needs to grab the bull by the horns and convert to that solution.

Background data allows you to receive emails and your apps to update periodically while your not using your phone. This is the basis of 99% of your notifications. It's kinda the point of having a smart phone in the first place.

Android 4.2 Gtalk Multiuser

Gtalk isn't working for me with multi user. Says that only the owner can use.
Anyone else having this come up? Hopefully Google releases a fix -.-
Same problem here, my girlfriend can't use Google Talk within her profile which is very disappointing since the rest of Android 4.2 is absolutely great.
Hope, a fix or workaround will be released soon.
No problem here. Do a factory reset that will resolve most of your issues. And restore apps without data.

same problem for me as well. I don't really want to do a factory reset just for this. I'm at work and without my tablet, so I can't test this, but does clearing data for google talk work as an alternative to factory resetting?
Same here. I think the error message is quite clear and easy to understand: the current google talk application is not compatible with multiuser environments. Update pending.

It would be nice because it continues the trend of separating application updates and new functionality from OS updates. It theoretically shouldn't matter on Nexus devices, because they get updates as soon as they are available.
A good example of where it would be great to have it in the play store would be for devices with carrier controlled updates.
My mom has a Droid Incredible 2 on VZW that does have a front facing camera, but the version of google talk doesn't support video chats. As it currently stands, she has to wait for the ICS update (or JB etc) to come out before having any chance of this getting solved. If Google could put it in the Play Store it would alleviate this issue.
They have clearly gone this path with many (most?) of their other apps at this point, so I don't see why it wouldn't continue.
To try and stay on topic though, I don't care too much if the multi-user gtalk problem is solved by an app update or an OS update as long as it gets solved. The multi-user implementation seems really great to me so far, but no gtalk is kind of a dealbreaker.

Well, I too think it won't help, but I saw what Omar04 suggested. Unfortunately I believe we have to wait for a 4.2.1 release or a Google Play app release to remedy this problem.
Update:
For some weird reason out of this planet when I first update using the OTA posted and added a new user Gtalk was working properly on both accounts, but now that I factory reset using Google factory images vía adb fastboot now I'm on same boat as you, no working Gtalk on other users.
That's my first and only issue at the moment. I will continue testing for some issues posted in several threads. Not related to apps because those resolve when apps get updated as MX Player a few hours ago.
Not able to reproduce the lag yet adding users. (3)

Yesterday I reflashed Android 4.2 firmware from scratch (fastboot). Unfortunately the issue isn't solved. When I add another user, the new user isn't able to use Gtalk.
This is kind of frustrating. But right now, it's the only app, which really makes problems.

Lumia 720+Amber+GDR2=Lots of issues. ..

Alright folks...
Updated Wife's 720 to GDR2. Now there are many things to worry about..
A. IT DOESN'T TURN OfF!!
B. The theme keeps reverting to White+CRIMSON
C. When I pull down to shut down, it rebbots with the hardware keys remaining active.
4. What's App shows a horizontal line across the screen while getting in a chat.
Now I wanted to know if a hard reset would do the trick. ..or am I in for a long hell ride, courtesy Nokia India?

A hard reset should do the trick, if you are not comfortable with it..............there is an app called "nokiaupdates" which allows you to manually update parts of the OS(system apps to be presice)
My friend's Lumia 720 also had some issues after the Amber update, some system apps didn't update automatically......using the app helped us to find out what wasn't updated

Kit kat

So I got my update yesterday and like a dummy I went ahead and accepted the release.
From what I can tell so far the dial was updated to act more like a T9 dialer and it has some other sort/organize features. Exchange looks a lot like gmail app now short of mail being arranged in conversations. I'm sure you can do that but I dont. I see several new Google service apps (bloat) that I dont and probably won't use. I'm using nova launcher so I can't really report on ho the new OS works.
The biggest undesirable change I've found is that I'm having a lot of difficulty connecting to 4G. This update was suppose to address some known issues there but I only see that its made it worse. Heck, I'm almost standing next to a 4G blowtorch and have a weak 3G signal. I hope this gets fixed soon. I really dont want to root to flash a radio patch.
I have a developers edition with unlocked boot loader....anyone else having these issues?

Just wanted to thank you for calling this to my attention. I finally bought some replacement/spare batteries (anker) and started using them this week. I thought, "Damn these batteries suck". But after reading your comment about entune, I checked out my battery usage...
Is there some way to get a hold of the Toyota app devs to make them aware? I've had issues with entune from day one, where if I had wifi-calling enabled, with entune running, it would kill my data access - and would continue to do so until I either disabled wifi-calling or forced-stopped entune. I contacted them about this, and they said the Note 4 was not officially supported, so I should pound sand.

BTW, this website: http://www.apkcraft.com/apk/toyota-entune/ has an older version. Don't know how old it is, but I'm installing it now.
EDITED to add - never mind. The site claims it's 1.12, but after installing it, it's clearly the most current version.

Actually, what I discovered is that all websites that claim to have 1.12 actually have 1.11. And that one didn't work on my Note 4 for whatever reason (but worked on old Note 2).
1.12 seems to be version just preceding current 1.15.

Fortunately, I was able to extract a Titanium backup from my wife's phone (Toyota Entune 1.12.311-4) which had not been updated (she has limited data on VZ, and I have auto-updates disabled). The backup file is about 7MB. I'd be happy to share it after redoing it with personal data removed.

Thanks. That would be so much appreciated. I think you can just pull apk from Titanium archive.

PM me your email address and I'll shoot the TB file over to you. If you have TB installed, it should import w/o having to go to APK.
Here you go
1.12.311.4
Pulled from the tb backup folder.

I was able to install. Hopefully it will work in car with new software upgrade.
Thanks a lot!

Glad to know it worked (so far). The first few attempts and I got a "could not parse" error. Third try was the charm. Now, let's see if you don't log in with my credentials

It asked me for login and password. So no worries. Apk wouldn't contain any user data, anyway. And my phone is not rooted, so I installed it in regular way.
It worked in the car, too.
Thanks big time again.

On the off chance that someone at Toyota is listening, I sent an email to them about the battery drain. Here's their response:
This is Percy from Toyota USA, getting back with you in regards to the recent Entune update causing phone battery drainage issue.
Our system vendor has identified the root cause of the issue and will be issuing another update real soon.
I may be receiving the ETA for the remedy within the next few days or so and I will get right back with you accordingly.
Sorry for the troubles you have to go through and thanks so much again for giving us a chance to get the issue resolved for you.
Regards,
Percy Chan

Thanks. These are really good news. Hopefully, update will sort things out. If not, there is always version 1.12.

Thank you so very much, I tried changing the play store on my Nexus 7 and everything to get Entune to download, your APK worked! Other download links caused a Authorization error for some reason.
Glad to hear it worked. The guy from Toyota said the next update for entune should hit the play store by end of this month. Now that we have a backup, I guess it would be safe to try? You first...
New version is out. Anyone wants to try? I don't think I will drive until Sunday
