I am on the stock Lollipop ROM, haven't installed Malaysks ROM or anything. I use the WIFI hotspot on my phone to provide data to the headunit. Does anyone know how to enable this section without using a custom ROM? I need this feature so I can treat my AndroidAP network as a metered (or Mobile Hotspot) WIFI network. The main reason I don't want to use a custom ROM is because it was a pain to even get Lollipop installed on my headunit (had to short a jumper, don't even get me started).
All you do is turn tethering on on your phone, turn wifi on on your headunit, connect the headunit and then it will connect and remember it, this works on 5.1.1 and indeed 4.4.4 out of the box, on any ROM.

You have ONE WIFI radio
It can act as a client and connect you to an Access Point
OR
It can act as a Access Point and allow incoming connections
BUT IT CAN'T DO BOTH
Doing both requires the Radio to function in form of repeater mode and that is not supported by any smartphone radios I have seen.
ok i got a question.. on my old galaxy s2 with jellybean i was able to use the wifi tether root for my wife's android to tether to.and now with my htc wit kitkat, only my laptop picks up the network. her fone dosent even show the hotspot.is there certain settings i need to change on my tether app or does HTC just have some kind of tether guard?

I am not great guru on these phones (or any for that matter). I have similar situation. Had an Evo4G that would wifi tether after root. This phone (Desire 510) seems to have additional guards. After installing the 3.0.3 of the wifi-tether apk there is a message that appears in the log indicating the phone takes control of the wireless ethernet interface after tethering has started. This kills the wifi tether.
I haven't identified what process is block the wifi tether but there is one called tetherguard. Mine is a Sprint phone so tether is available at a fee. The phone must be capable.

Forgive my silly question. Any way possible for xperia z to use mobile data instead wifi while connected to any wifi network?
I use to connected to wifi network with no internet access, just for transfering data.. While i want to still use internet from my mobile network. It keep act like search data through wifi network (of course it can't).. So, is there any way to force my phone to use mobile data instead wifi?

Technically phone should support multi-path transport system, but phones work in the way to minimize data usage, so wifi have priority whenever ist connected.
It could be possible to make it work with custom kernel, but its just too messed up i think...

hi guys. im new for this, i got old phone from my sister sony ericsson e15i and i wanna use for mobile hotspot. but i can find hotspot portable in menu " Wireless & Network " --> Tethering,. there only usb tether not wifi tethering.
can someone help me with this case, its use gingercruzt mod, 2.3 android. when i reboot there's clockwork cyanogend mod etc.
how can i tethering wifi from my phone? i try foxfi and barnacle its not work.

Flash a custom Rom, GingerDx or something.
No other way really than the kind of apps you mentioned (Barnacle works for me). Try to find other similar apps and see if one works for you.
Also, keep in mind that your phone broadcasts in ad hoc mode only, and can only be "seen" by devices that support finding this connection type. Your average smartphone can't do this. Only laptops and some specific smartphone models can.
So, if you are using another mobile phone to find your X8, it's possible that your tether in fact works just fine even though you can't detect it with another phone.
If nothing works, and you really need this for some reason, try another ROM.
Title. I couldn't figure out what was wrong, until I trialed-and-errored and found that I couldn't connect to anything unless I had Wi-Fi on. It doesn't work for my LTE/3G connection.
