How do we apply the OTA if we are rooted and on a Custom Rom like Venom?

If I haven't done S-off yet, does anyone know if I still can after this update? Or do I have to before taking the update?

Camera quit?
I was on rooted stock, S-On, and applied the new firmware ([RUU][Firmware][Stock Rooted ROMs]Sprint HTC 10 | 1.80.651.1 | updated 6.20.16), then reinstalled TWRP then SuperSU.
There's a major improvement in my NFC now - great!
But the camera has completely stopped working - just closes. Tried some 3rd-party camera apps, as well as re-installing the HTC app - all the same, either no picture or a force-close.
Has anybody else had camera problems after installing this?

Oh well - I bit the bullet and bought Sunshine, then got S-Off (wiping my data ), then installed the full RUU.
Camera's working again. Next is to reinstall TWRP then SuperSU, then put everything back the way it was.
Dunno what was wrong with just flashing the firmware.

fyi---flashing firmware only is only partially updating your phone...think of firmware as like drivers, you still need to update the OS, but since u flashed the RUU, you're set now....btw, RUU flashes all, firmware, OS etc

Got a PRL update today I?

Never converted to GPe..just got OTA

I bought the T-Mobile HTC One and then promptly flashed the Google Play edition 4.2.2 ROM and then after that I flashed the 4.3 ROM a few months ago when it came out. But just a few minutes ago I got an OTA notification for 4.3.
I never converted using and RUU or changing the CID/GID or anything complicated like that, I just flashed a ROM in TWRP. Anyone got a clue whats going on?

It will still give you the OTA notification and let you download it, it just wont install because of your custom recovery among many other things.

That last part is not quite true, It will install
I just updated with this 15Mb update to 4.3 Build JWR66Y.H1
It booted me into TWRP and installed the update, then rebooted into system, only issue is it's not rooted anymore

Thats odd. Maybe it can install minor updates then. When I got the OTA for 4.3 from 4.2.2, TWRP had no clue what to do with the update file and just rebooted.

[Q] 4.4.2 on GPE HTC One and "Couldn't install on USB storage or SD Card."

Okay, so here's the deal.
I have an AT&T HTC One that was running 4.4 Kit Kat (Click: this ROM) and is S-OFF via RumRunner. I am running the latest TWRP recovery.
Yesterday I got prompted for an OTA and accepted it (in the past, with GPE ROMs, it would just reboot to recovery and do nothing). This is the only way I know of to get rid of the annoying "System update available" notification. I figured it wouldn't do anything and I would simply reboot and be good for a few more days until it prompted again. Low and behold, it actually updated my phone to 4.4.2.
Now, I'm having some issues.
I was a user of DashClock Widget...but now I use Better DashClock. However, this app is now prompting me to download a key. When I try to download the key from the Play Store, I get the message:
Error: Couldn't install on USB storage or SD Card.
SwiftKey Keyboard has the same issue.
Other apps (such as ES File Explorer, ESPN, Fandango, etc. update just fine).
-------------
I have read a bunch of posts that suggest cleaning up temp files (which don't exist on my phone) and to download SELinux Mode Changer and change the mode to Passive...but to no avail.
Can someone help me? Is this the developers issue or did my phone do something wonky?
Thanks!
Exactly the same problem here. I've narrowed it down to paid apps that won't install. Followed the same possible solutions in the 1st post, nothing works. HTC One GE 4.4.2.

I had a similar problem. I downloaded the 4.4.2 OTA update and tried flashing it with TWRP three different times. All three times I got that same error message with some apps. It was extremely frustrating. I ended up flashing the stock 4.4 recovery and then flashing the update. It worked perfectly and the problem went away. I then reflashed TWRP.

I had a similar experience. Paid apps would not install from Play Store. Amazon app store or F-Droid apps would install.
But my journey was that I had a 4.4 GPE device suffering through an issue where I can't get my bootloader to unlock. So when 4.4.2 came out I wasn't getting the OTA so I tried flashing just the firmware package from the OTA download. That's when I was getting this error (after a factory reset).
But then next day I got the real OTA and after that the problem went away. So for me it was a firmware issue in that it wasn't the right firmware for my OS.
Weird that you are running 4.4.2 but having this issue. Any chance you didn't come to have 4.4.2 the "natural" way?

Yeah...my process was as natural as possible.
I was on 4.3 at first...so when I was going to 4.4 KitKat I first flashed back to some basic stock Sense ROM to run RumRunner and attain S-OFF. Then I COMPLETELY NUKED my phone and went to 4.4 KitKat. Had no problems, got the OTA, and now this.
It's aggravating, that's for sure.
I really don't want to completely wipe my phone again and have to re-setup all of my home screens, etc.
I received the OTA which installed despite me having TWRP, not stock recovery (as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48586329). Now I have the same issue installing paid apps (the ones I had already installed before the OTA disappeared off the device).
Short of starting from scratch, I'm at a bit of a loss for a solution...
Nick
Sounds like this is wide-spread...or at least amongst the people who are running newer GPE ROMs on their Ones.
im having the exact same issues here

Fixed
It looks like this is all to do with custom recovery and OTA updates. I have TWRP installed. This morning I flashed stock recovery. I then put the OTA update file on the phone storage. Then booted into the stock recovery (which is the first time I've seen it, it would be nice if it was the last as it's tricky to get into), then flashed the 4.2.2. update from there. Once I booted the phone again all my paid apps reappeared. No data lost in the process. I'm not sure if going back to TWRP not will cause the problem again, so for now I'll stick with stock recovery....

Also, you left 4.4.2 on the device and just 're-applied' the OTA update? Or did you go back to a NANDROID backup of you on 4.4 or 4.3?

Yeah, that's about it. I used adb to flash the stock recovery to replace TWRP, then used the stock recovery to flash the same update you linked to. After it was done updating I reflashed TWRP. And don't forget to make a nandroid.
Thank you! Will report back when I'm done!
What is the fastboot command to flash the OTA zip file?
I'm back on the stock recovery...phone is still booting/working so I just need to do the OTA part now.

Sorry, hectic day at work. I should have said that I applied the update with the stock recovery. Not fastboot.
I basically used the guide linked below to flash the update.

What if you don't have an "apply from adb" option?
I have:
- reboot system now
- apply from sd card
- apply from phone storage
- apply from cache
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
Can't I just open a ADB shell while on the fastboot USB option?

No OS installed?

It's been a little while since I've done anything to my phone.
I was having a few issues with the installed ROM(AndroidNow4.3) with Android 4.3 and Sense 5.5.
I went to install both ViperOne and I tried Sloth. After "installing" them from TWRP it said there was no OS installed.
I currently converted back to AndroidNow, but I was wondering if there was anything I had to do because of the Android 4.3 version difference between the ROMs?
Thanks.

I actually think I know what I did....or didn't do, lol.
It appears I only downloaded the OTA updates in the threads, instead of the actual ROM. OOPS.
I'll let you know if I fix it.
But Here's what I did;
1. Downloaded the file.
2. Put it on the phone.
3. Made a backup of all my stuff
4. Cleared Cache, D-Cache, Data and System.
5. Installed zip.
Ok, I got it installed.
My only question is, when I install the OTA update, do I need to clear just the cache? Or do I have to clear it at all?

Will the update go through even if using TWRP? Will it break root or cause a soft brick? I'm still running the original build that it shipped with (dated 26-12-2015 with 2015-11-01 security patch level).

1. It wouldn't be Gionee doing anything even those this phone is based off of it. 2. Look at the sites that reviewed it, it's been posted many times that it was planned to get Android 6.0 . Android Central....check gsmarena it's out there if you look.

I can't imagine BLU is doing much ROM development. Gionee almost certainly has to provide them with the MM ROM since the Vivo XL is the Gionee Elife S Plus. BLU makes some changes, sure, but they likely aren't developing a MM ROM from scratch.
Anyway, I was just curious and not that interested in reading up on it. I got this phone to be a bedside clock (AMOLED screen FTW) and as a backup in case my DD runs into problems. It was $100 and a good deal at that price, but I have no belief that it will see anything but security patch updates (and even then, I don't expect much).
They arent going to update to 6.0. It used to say that on the Blu website but after the phone launched it was removed from the Blu Vivo XL and Vivo 5 pages.
Can anyone make a flashable zip? I'm using TWRP. I tried modifiing the updater-script, but no luck so far.
I updated the radio but went to an error and now the phone is stuck on boot menu. I can't flash it because it won't connect to any computer.

Just got my R1 HD - is it safe to update to current OTA release?

Before rooting/removing ads etc, I want to use the phone for a week or so stock so Ill have a baseline to compare it to.
Would it be OK to let the phone update fully while using it? I know with some devices (Amazon kindle) if you update it to a certain point, then there is no going back and the bootloader gets locked.
Lemme know what you think.

If you allow it to update, you will not be able to unlock bootloader, so if you want to root do not update.
The latest update has been posted in this forum, so you are not missing any of the update by rooting either.

Is the root junky method still good?
https://youtu.be/KMobKWfZbJg
Or should I follow a different guide? I know some of his files on his website are outdated.
I also am having a problem when trying to use the flashtool. When I plug my phone in powered off, at first it says the battery is low no matter what, then disconnects, then says 95% or whatever it is. This is preventing me from using flashtool when in download mode.
Any idea why this is happening? My r1 hd is on 6.0 btw

All the R1-HD line is on Android 6.0
The Blu release version is what changes.
I believe this was the order
6.1
6.4
6.5
6.6
7.4.2
8.3
8.4
The flashtool stopped working at v6.6
The new method was the use dirty cow. There is a tool thread for directions.

Anyways, I guess I should look into the dirty cow method. Do you have the link?

Is there a ROM i should flash afterwards?
I just installed twrp using the dirty cow method (steps 1-4), and then also did step 5-1 (install supersu).
At this point, in the past Ive always just flashed a brand new rom and gapps. Is there a "stock" rom that I should flash with twrp - which is just the stock rom with no ads? And which build should I? Im on 6.6 right now.
Ive read that lineage has some problems with the camera - no big deal ill roll will the stock non-ad rom for now.
Thanks again!

So the non-prime ROMs latest is v21 it comes with none of the prime ads.
Or v8.4 that came with the ads but they were removed. .some have said n-ify not working on 8.4 but does on 21. I do not know first hand.

You will have to do SuperSU again after the rom

Last question(s):
So I installed V21, supersu, removed ALL amazon with dirtycow.
1. Is my phone now disabled from receiving OTA updates? Or do I have to do something else to make sure auto updates are OFF.
2. Is there a way to remove this stupid blu app (blu help) that keep requiring me to register my device? Every time I power on I have to force stop the app or I have a constant notification to do it.
Thanks again!

The debloat done with the tool supposed to have disabled the ota checker program.
And as a second method of not getting ota, having twrp and root will also make the ota fail even if it was to download.
The Blu app is called warrenteer. What I do is belete the whole folder.
/system/priv-app/warrenteer
You can take baby steps and just rename the apk inside that folder to add "-" or "_" to end of it's name
This can be done with a root explorer app or with recovery file manager. Either way.
