Samsung Gear App crashes - Huawei Mate S

Anyone by chance using a Samsung fitness tracker with the corresponding Gear Android App? Initially it worked when setting the connection up, but now it crashes everytime I click the app icon... De- and reinstalled it but with no success...

I had the same problem with the Gear software, not with a fitness tracker but in junction with Gear 2 Neo. I didn't figure out what caused the problem.
- I factory-resetted the watch with and without reinstalling a backup.
- I deleted the app and cache data of the software on phone, including a factory reset of the watch.
All leaded to the same behaviour I was unable to get past the main screen in the Gear software. I was not able to change watch preferences, app preferences (some apps have further settings) or doing any further actions in the sub menu's.
So I blame the Gear software being buggy.
At the end I converted the Gear 2 Neo from Tizen to Android Wear 6 and disabled the Gear software completely.

Have the same issue on my P8max with a Gear S2. But I found out by accident (during a reboot of the S2) that the app starts up correctly when disconnected from the handwrist device. Thereafter you can connect and use the app. So whenever you need to use the app disconnect, start the app and connect is a workaround (although a very annoying one).

Those are the exact steps I did but I still can't get notifications to work.
I'm in the same boat. Followed the directions 100% and all I can do is call.

I've spent hours and hours trying to get things right on the n5 and gear. No such luck. Was able to connect and receive calls and transfer images sometimes. Notifications never worked unless using a third party app like tablet notifier. With tablet notifier using null ROM, I didn't need to use any gear manager to get that to work. The answering calls and transferring photos won't work. Just notifications do.

My gear works perfectly with Nexus 5. I followed the instructions here (http://pocketnow.com/2014/02/07/galaxy-gear-with-the-nexus-5) and it works. make sure you dont miss step 12 (and follow all steps in order). also use the ATN Manager from post #13 from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2596455&page=2
Have you set the security setting allowing ATN manager to receive notifications?
I had to use the .111801 version to get calling, contacts and photo transfer to work. Also i got Atn manager 1.2.2 to work, not 1.2.3

WORKING!
For those that are using other device and not Samsung Devices....
OK I was able to get this working and I will try my best to explain it for everyone so you can understand:
Uninstall any versions of ATNManger you already have installed
Install ATN Manager 1.2.2 on your "Phone" (In my case, Nexus 5), apk HERE
Install the "Watch.apk" inside ATN Manager 1.2.3.1_pre.apk on your "Galaxy Gear", apk HERE
Go to settings on your "Phone" and find security, inside there find "Notification Access" make sure ATN Manager is checked
Open ATN Manager on you "Phone" and check all apps that you want to get notifications from (example: Gmail, Hangouts, Google+, Facebook)
You should now get notifications on all of your apps that you checked, my wife even gets them for all her games.
Too bad it only lets you know you got a message and then you have to go to phone to see it, but you still get the notification if say your phone is on silent. Would be great if we could make this work from Nexus 5 through GearManager as it is better but no luck there for me.
Also while I am at it, here is how to get the WatchStyler app working so you can change your watch faces:
Open GearManager on your "Phone"
Connect to your Galaxy Gear
Click on Clocks to see the list of clocks
With Clocks open hit your home button to minimize Gear Manager
Install latest WatchStyler app (1.1.00) from HERE
Open WatchStyler app
Now open GearManager (that is still running) and you will then see the WatchStyler option, choose it
Make a new watch face in WatchStyler and then open GearManager
Choose the Gear next to WatchStyler and choose the watch face you just made and choose apply
You should now see your new watch face on your Galaxy Gear
Hope this helps everyone.

[Q] New Gear User: Can't find installed apps

Hi XDA, I'm new to the gear and new to the forum. I just followed a guide on how to sideload apps using ADB. I am able to successfully install these apps, but am not able to see them on the list of apps on my phone or on my Gear when they are paired. If I disconnect the gear from my phone and reset the gear, I'm able to see these apps. Does anybody have any idea?
I also installed NOVA and then changed the default of the home button to always be touchwiz (since I want my Gear to be more like a watch and not a mini tablet), but have no way to go to Nova unless I disconnect and reset my Gear. Any ideas or help? Thanks.
I've noticed this too. My gut feeling is that its going into gear manager on my phone that does it as that only lists the conventionally installed apps rather than the side loaded ones.

I'm having the exact same issue.
If I reboot my watch with bluetooth off, my sideloaded apps show up with no issues. The second I enable bluetooth and my watch and phone connect, the apps get hidden. Are there any solutions to this problem?

Does S Health work or NOT work with the watch

Okay, first of all, I'm coming from the Gear 1 to the Gear 2 Neo, and I loved S Health. It appears not to work with my Gear 2 Neo. I have not deleted the Gear 1 stuff off my phone or Gear Manager. I have tried to search this forum and Google, but I can't seem to get a definitive answer as to whether or not the S Health app is compatible. I don't like the look and feel of the Fitness with Gear app. Doesn't seem as robust as S Health. The S5 uses v3.0 and my S4 is stuck on v2.5.5. I guess I'll have to wait until I upgrade to the S5 (that's if they release a rumored S5 prime).

I have an S4 with the latest S Health and it does not work. More annoying is the steps differ by a large margin (1000 steps) from watch to phone !!!
What the hell is the point of having a fitness watch app that does not even sync or work with your device.
so I got it working with my Note 3.
I uninstalled the old S Health, downloaded a copy of S5's S Health and Health Services.
Rebooted my Note 3, installed both S Health and Health Services.
Then I went to the S Heath's Pedometer app.
Press "Menu Button"
Clicked "Device data to view" and selected Gear Neo
I supposedly have a copy of the S5 baked in with the ROM I'm running and still can't get it to work. I don't have this selection you have.

S-Health 3.0 works with the New NEO, but you can't access your old data.
At least I could not! . . . I found that S Health 2.5/2.6 did not work with the NEO. And the Samsung Fitness app is terrible.
SO I installed the Galaxy S5's S-Health (3.0). That worked on my phone and with my Neo (I have a Samsung S4, I337).
However. With the S-Health 3.0 app, there is no option to restore data. So all of my old S Health Data --months and months of it from just using the S4, is NOT available on the new S Health. All my records now are just since I installed S-Health 3.0. I can't bring my old records forward.
When/if I reinstall the "old" S Health --my old file data can be downloaded via my Samsung account. But that is not an option in S Health 3.0. (If someone does know how to do this --could you please let me know!)
I've attached screenshots on the step by step on how to get it to work.
I hope you guys can get it to work.

I found it by searching XDA and found one dated 4/27/14 along with HealthService apk, both for the S5. I turned off (essentially uninstalled) S Health on my S4 and installed first the healthservice apk then S health and after setting the pedometer to track my device, it is working beautifully.

Exactly, on the S4, I could only turn off the old one, which essentially uninstalls it. I am rocking version 3.1 with my Gear 2 Neo and loving it. Glad I decided to risk it.
I just want to say that ofc it is just going to work with the S5s S-health to begin with, samsung wants to sell their new phone and not the S4 or S3. I am sure that when sale pan out abit we will see S-health 3.0 on S4 also.
Tho i do agree its anoying to not be able to get the steps and calories synced between fitness and health.

I found after doing this three times (due to reflashing my S4), that if you install the Service APK and then the SHealth 3.0 APK, as you go through the intial setup it asks to update SHealth (think to 3.1), then you get the extra sync menu (i.e. which data to view).
If you get it wrong the update to 3.1 does not occur and it does not sync.
Saying that the 3rd time around it works fine and is supposedly syncing with my Neo, but my Neo is showing 1400 steps, the S4 is showing 400 steps, its sync's fine but the data is wrong.
I do not know why the option does not exist to just make your phone the master, as in reality a phone in the pocket near the waist will give a more accurate step reading that a watch that is constantly waving as you move your hand.
I have the 3.1 apk and it works well, but if you soft reset (reboot) your phone, it will erase everything in S Health and ask you to set it up again. Anyone else who has got it working on their S4 found this too?
Yep same issue, in the end I went back to the standard size health on my S4.
I got an update for it today, it recognises the S4 and fitness syncs but only the HRM not steps ???

Yesterday i got an update to both Fitness with Gear and S-Health (original one for S4) and it now say "Connected to fitness with gear" on the main menu in S-Health, my steps still differ between the clock and the phone (fitness vs S-Health) but atleast it seems that there are some syncing between the two apps.
As I said, both apps are the ones intended for the S4. (version 2.5.5.051 for S-Health and version 1.3.01.0521 for Fitness with gear)

Same for me. I have both the apps updated to the same versions, and still S Health cannot sync with Gear 2 Neo. Anyway, the only news is that S Health currently shows my Gear Neo within the connected stuff, but if I try to push the configuration button S Health totally stops working and resets, while synchronization is never possible. Samsung developers really suck (or simply they are pushing us towards the S5, and I do not like this at all).

S Health issue...

Hi
Since I update my GG1 to Tizen, it doesn't sync its podometer with S Health anymore... When I try manually, S Health claim that there is a sync error...
It seems that Samsung updated GG1 to Tizen in order to said that they update even their "old" products, without however improve the compatibility...
Damn Samsung... What are you doing ???

I have exactly the same problem. Just some new additional fitnes programm was installed (it is connected with the old one somehow) and that's all, I alwas just recieve connection error message. Also Watch Styler doesn't work anymore.. I wish I could go back to Android till it is solved.
I will also go back to Android if Samsung can't make a correct compatibility between GG1, Tizen and the phone...
The only problem is that we cannot go back to Android from Tizen...
You must use fitness with gear app now.

Same problem here.
In Gear Manager, I go to Fitness>Menu>Sync Now and it says "Sync Complete"
Then, I go into S Health > Settings > My accessories
It says my Gear is connected
I tap on the sync icon
It says "Syncing" for about 10 seconds, then says "Failed to sync. Try again."
Kind of makes the fitness apps on the Gear useless if the data can't be imported into S Health.

Just as an update to this...
I had to do a factory reset on my Note 3 yesterday and now S Health syncs with the Gear ok. I don't really use s health, so it didn't bother me before. But, I just tried it and it's syncing now.
I'm having the same issue. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling Fitness with Gear, no luck. If I go into S Health -> Settings -> My Accessories, I see my Gear 2 as "connected" but clicking its "sync" button also fails.

Broken notifications in Gear Manager ? Here's the solution

I've spent a lot of time to figure out how to get full notifications back on my Gear 1.
Since the last few updates, Samsung screwed us over by updating Gear Manager and mess with the notifications in the process.
For a lot of apps, the full notifications were removed now only showing the app that triggers the notification and for instance the sender of an email.
This is what I did to get it fully working again.
1. Remove everything Gear related on the phone (my case it's a S5).
2. Download earlier version of Gear Manager where full notifications still worked and put it somewhere on your SD card where you can find it.
( I downloaded version 2.1.14071502 from here https://www.mediafire.com/folder/e7h23e12rzesi/Gear_Manager )
3. Make sure the phone doesn't have any internet connection anymore, disable wifi and mobile data connection.
4. disable Bluetooth, so that you don't have a connection with the Gear smartwatch.
5. Install the Gear Manager earlier version you downloaded
6. reboot phone
7. open Titanium Backup and freeze "samsung gear automatic update" (or something simular, I'm translating is from Dutch).
8. open Gear Manager, it shouldn't ask to update (as the internet connection is still not active).
9. disable automatic updates in Gear Manager
10. Set up Gear Manager as you like
11. Connect phone to smartwatch by enabling Bluetooth again
12. Enable wifi and/or mobile data connection
On my S5 it works perfectly like this, no messages about updates and whatsapp and gmail notifications are coming in again with preview of the text.
UPDATE : I don't know if it is related to my "workaround" but I don't receive WhatsApp notifications anymore on the watch, although it is checked in Gear Manager and I do receive notifications on my phone.
UPDATE 2 : decided to give it another try today and I followed again the same steps. At step 7 there was no "Samsung Software Update" in TB, so decided to freeze "Samsung Account" in TB. This worked very well.
Tested my findings by sending myself multiple notifications (Gmail, SMS, Whatsapp, etc) from my company S3 Neo and it worked !

No, not that I know of.
This "workaround" is only to get back more text in the notifications, which are gone after the last few updates that Samsung forced upon us.
