Cannot install or update applications from the Play Store since upgrading to N - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I enrolled on the beta program on my Nexus 6 and allowed it to update to Android N (June build) and now I cannot install anything from the Play Store or update applications through it. I get an error every time.
I have tried:
Turning it off and on.
Disabling Play Store and clearing the cache (cannot see anywhere to uninstall updates).
What should I try next? Should I try and uninstall the Play Store and reinstall it through apk?

Clear data of Google Play Services and Play Store then try installing/updating apps.

This did not work. It still just shows "Downloading" constantly and yet nothing happens. The bar just goes across endlessly til I stop it.

It is error code 495 if that helps, I will try Googling it now...

It still has not worked. I also turned off the data saver built into Android 7 and also turned off Opera Max in case they were affecting it.
I really don't want to flash it but I might just wait until the final launch of Android 7 in August and flash it.

Max does not route Google Play requests through compression servers as it's HTTPS. Also we're testing if it works properly before each release .

I have the same problem, but what I have found that works is: starting the download.. force stopping the play store app. Tap playstore app again, then download will finish. I have to do that every download. Keeps me from switching back to MM.

no clue why anyone wants N at this point; very few things actually work on it, and MM has so many fantastic roms/tweaks/features right now..
Its only another month or so until its officially out; especially if you are N00B, you should really wait until then

I got bored and didn't have access to a PC so I thought I'd try it. Surely access to the play store and the ability to install apps is one of the most basic and prioritised functions and given it's the 3rd Android N beta release I thought it would be fine.

Actually DevPreviews have been what I would consider fine for me. Very few problems that would cause me to return to mm. 99% of the stuff I use works, so I'm good with it. I am encrypted and I manually flash different partitions when updating. I've had very few problems.

Truth be told I don't know a great deal about Android yet. I can do some basic stuff that average phone owners can't like installing apks but I've never flashed anything. I'm not scared to try with a step by step guide though so I might try one later. I will see what version of CM is newest - does CM automatically update now? So when Android N is launched it will update? Or I'd have to flash it again?

Just restart the device and then try. Or force stop playstore and run it again. i'm using android N beta (NPD56N) since 7 days and i found no bugs yet! its working perfect on my nexus 6

I was the same way when I started with my Evo. I've come a long way since then( only less fear lol). I've learned a lot from searching first, then if I can't figure it out, there's someone on here willing to help. Trial and error is a great teacher. I don't use CM anymore. I use pureNexus.. When it comes out for N, I'm going back to it. Beanz is a great developer. Make a rom back up and start flashing.

Working Market fix (tested on TnT Lite, should work elsewhere)

First off, this is not my fix and I take no credit for it - I am just passing it on. Many thanks to xguntherc for posting the original fix, and KorbenD for pointing me in the right direction on Titanium Backup.
Their posts, as a reference:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9294190&postcount=2835
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9302719&postcount=2846
I will summarize the Titanium Backup solution, as that's the one I had gotten to work. The non-TB solution did not work for me, but still relevant as some people have gotten it to work in cm:
- Get a copy of Titanium Backup and sideload it (free version is fine). http://matrixrewriter.com/android/
- Make sure the Market is working with your Google ID, of course.
- Go into Settings -- Applications -- Manage Applications and Force Stop both the Market and Google Services Frameworks apps.
- In Titanium Backup, go into "Backup/Restore", look for "Google Services Framework 2.2", click on it and then choose "Wipe Data". Then go back to the home screen.
- Run the Market app. You should get an error (that's a good thing, as that's what we want. If you don't get an error, re-try the steps above until you do).
- Reboot, and wait at least a minute after the OS is up to let things stabilize.
- Run the Market again. You should see an immediate difference.
EDIT: You might have to do one more reboot to get apps to actually download and install. I had this issue, but it might have just been me.
I tested this on TnT 1.02, but keep in mind that my TnT is further modded so results may vary. Good luck!
It worked!!! Thanks a million my friend for posting this.
Works on Zpad 1106
Working very nicely on v1 build of the zpad clean V1.0 Thanks this is great!
Updated apps!!! rockplayer is now working he he.... I'm like a kid in a candy store Nice find man
Works perfect on 6.1 beta!!! Thanks!
This doesn't seem to work on a rooted stock g-tablet. I also tried the Titanium Backup method, but no luck. It does give me the Market terms of use on first run.
You guys are going to force me to use a modded firmware! I still want to wait and see what ViewSonic/Flextronics comes out with for an update.

Seems this device may steal a lot of the Archos 101's thunder for mid to higher end Android users, since easy to root and a LOT more powerful. Apparently both devices have the same display too. Need to see the Archos 101 in "person" to confirm this, but Youtube vids show the same weak angles.
Talk about irony. Archos talks smack and is a month and a half late (even later for 2.2), only to be beat to and in channels by a device with no smack talk. Ironic.

Did you start Market after each reboot? Or did you just reboot three times.
OTA: Using the vanilla post over the air update to... 2638(?) I think?
Tried Market everytime. And each time it came with error screen.

Hope it helps
I don't seem to be able to get the desired results, no matter how many times I reboot.
If the ViewSonic update doesn't give a decent market, I will reset the device and start over. I'm still not convinced that I need to install a custom ROM.

The Viewsonic update is going to be a device reset, for all intents and purposes - that's why I'm not making any mods until that comes out.

Is my Titanium Backup not installed properly? (first time ever trying to use it, I'm a total n00b on all of this) I get to Backup/Restore, but don't see any sort of Google Framework entry. Is there something I need to run first?

I sideloaded Market, didn't use the TNT/gapps loader. So perhaps that's my problem. (Though I don't see any apps listed in Titanium Backup/Restore. Maybe it has something to do with the error I get about "BusyBox works but the 'su' command does not elevate to root" when I open it.)
(Can't do the YouTube Market fix, either, because I have no option in the TnT Settings / Applications to Clear Data--only Clear Cache is there)
I imagine I'll be going to TNTlite pretty soon, but I was waiting for the OTA for.... no particular reason, really.
Thanks.
This worked great for me using tntlite 2.0, but this step "- Go into Settings -- Applications -- Manage Applications and Force Stop both the Market and Google Services Frameworks apps." the manage applications buttton was missing.. the actual button I used was System Applications.. otherwise the instructions worked. also be patient when you are wiping data in titanium backup, after hitting the button it does take a while before it will show a popup saying "data wipe complete"

[SOLVED] Problems with Google Play 3.5.15

So, recently I noticed that my Market (or Google Play, whatever you want to call it...) got updated to version 3.5.15. Since then, I'm not able to download some free apps like the newest Angry Birds (space) for example. It keeps saying that there is some kind of purchasing problem even though the app is free? This also happens with a few other apps...
The strangest thing is that I can download some other apps like Coin Dozer with the newest version, and I can't even update every app. I mean, I can update some of them, but I can't update Superuser for some reason...
I'm using the latest Temasek's KANG with the latest kernel from vadonka. (HOC LITE OTF 48MB). And I was wondering if this problem is related to the market version.
EDIT: So, I figured that I can only download apps from the Play Store I previously downloaded before. With other words, apps I once installed but then removed. (like Coin Dozer).
Thx for taking your time!
UPDATE 1:
So, after messing around a bit I finally managed to solve this problem. First I deleted all the updates and installed the market apk 3.4.4. Afterwards I made sure that the apk wouldn't update itself again with the help from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431341
Now I got a functional Market again. It's not the latest, but at least it's working normally again. I know it didn't really solve the problem with Market 3.5.15, which is a pity because I kinda liked the new updates. But, Hey, you win something and you lose something.
UPDATE 2:
Finally, after the help from UnityCake (Thanks bro! ) , I managed to solve this problem and now I've got Market 3.5.15 working again! .
Thanks you guys for your help!
I really appreciated it!
I have the same configuration and all works fine. Try to reinstall the rom
or you could try clearing your market cache if you haven't already, failing that boot into recovery and wipe cache & dalvik there. or.. uninstall the market updates, and let it update again later =)

Hmmm... I already tried wiping cache and fixing the permissions. I'm pretty sure the problem is related to this specific version because previous versions were working fine for me. But I will try it, thanks for the tips!
EDIT: I tried wiping the cache of the market application and the problem still persists. Also, I deleted the updates and let the Market app update itself again to 3.5.15 and the problem still isn't gone. I'm pretty sure the problem is related to this Play Store version.
I had a big bug with latest version a couple of days ago, I couldn't instal anything and all installed apps vanished from market menu.
I erased my Google account from the phone and set it again and all was ok then.

So I suppose you need to erase your Google account with the 'accounts & synchronization' option in settings. However when I try to do that, it says I only can delete my account by doing a factory reset in the 'Privacy' option. My question is, isn't there an easier way to delete my Google account, without losing all my data?
Maybe try to re-install/flash Google Play Store. We have the same ROM and KERNEL, but, I don't have any problem with the latest Market. Hope it helps.

Hmmm.... Okay, then I will factory reset my phone and reflash everything and see if that works... I can always restore my apps with Titanium Backup, so it's not a real big problem anyways.
UPDATE: So after a factory reset and a total reflash, Play Store 3.5.15 still doesn't work . It asked for permission when I opened the app for the first time and then it worked for a short time. Afterwards it asked again for the same permission and I accepted again and now I have the same problem as before. I'm clueless right now, any idea guys?
weird.. if you did a factory reset and reflashed it, the issue must be fixed. maybe its a rom issue or kernel?

Any one in here having issues with this version? This one is making me nuts!

Help Needed

I am getting a strange error on my phone. Until a week ago Google play store was working perfectly on my phone but now suddenly whenever I try to use it, it says unfortunately stopped all the time.
The only way I can use it by uninstalling updates but whenever I do that, the play store automatically updates, I have performed a clean wipe and reinstalled the rom, still no luck.
I am using chroma rom, 5.0.2 build, the final version
Any help is appreciated.

Have you tried a different rom/gapps combo? It may make sense to do a nandroid backup and then try a different 5.0.x rom/gapps. If that helps you can probably narrow it down to which software is causing the error.
Thanks for the help guys, I solved the issue, it turned out a layer was causing the problem, I removed it and everything is back to normal.

Nice! What did you do with Chromium webview? Did you keep it in the build or did you remove it/replace it with prebuilt/replace it with Classic Webview?

Great.. Thanks @dmitrygr
I have tried your image (flash with TWRP one) but got an error. Haven't try yet the fastboot image one, since my laptop is in my home, gonna try later when I get home.
thanks, Nexus S it's still my actual phone, if all works with this new ROM maybe im really tempted to try.
Actually i have Jellyshot with Marmite kernel and except the battery drain with 3g data and the limited storage i haven't any lag problems.

Click erase. This is ok for first boot
I forgot to mention this. You need to flash my recovery, at least for first boot. TWRP will not format /media as ext4 if it sees it already formatted as fat32.
great ..
hope to try it soon

Marshmallow alone seem to work well, however the Nexus S becomes so slow it's entirely unusable after adding flashed some minimal google apps package.
After taking a very long time to add an account, I have been unable to successfully install an application from the Play Store.
Do you know which minimalistic gapps package would function well here?
After all, although it's not crazy fast, the play store works plenty on stock 4.1.2.
Due to my employment situation, i am not going to point you to any Gapps package, but i am happy to point out, that after you install gapps, wait a while (few hours) to let device finish background tasks) it will act a lot better
i was able to install chrome and gps test and a few other apps from store no issues

Yes of course.
I tried a few more gapps variants:
- with the open gapps pico you can download today it fails to boot
- with older gapps pico it fails to go through the initial setup after entering the Wi-fi credentials (ANRs in logcat, mentions of GCM setup failure)
The most sort of working solution I had - still unusable in result, initially was with a package made for M on the Nexus 4, editing the install script to force the install (despite a failed disk free test)
If anyone (well, anyone else) has a working solution please share

Unfortunately those are too big (even the zero option), there's only 152.2M free on the /system partition.
I was also troubled by the space issue. I even started thinking about resizing the partition, but I was puzzled why fdisk returns only one partition from mmcblk0 but the OS still manages to see and mount all 3 partitons. I think the easiest way out would be adjusting the partitons.
Same problem here... I can t find a gapps package that run on this great ROM
IMPRESSIVE, I have to test this!

A zero gapps is smaller than 152mb?.. If you unzip it, remove all but play services and install the rest like normal apps you should be down to like 30mb or less...
Once booted and rooted, remove apps like tts and wallpapers ect and then try gapps.. As another thought..
