[Help] Z1 shutting down after bootanimation - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys, before placing the problem, I want you to know that the Z1 will be around 2 years old in September. The old unit was replaced with the current unit in September 2014. The battery level has been steadily dropping since the last few months. And it is running Stock firmware with NUTs Dual Recovery and Xposed.
Now onto the problem.
The Z1 had been in deep sleep for the last few hours when I unlocked it. I switched on the WiFi, received some notifications and was just going to download an app from the Play Store when I received the message of the kind "The phone is being switched off due to overheating".
Now, it was awake for hardly a minute when this message showed up, and I hadn't even downloaded the app. The battery level was more than 95% and the Z1 switched off, even though the whole phone was ice cold. It wasn't even warm let alone overheated. And in my approx 3 years of owing this phone, i had never got this message, though the Z1 had heated up a lot of times.
Now when I tried switching it on, the Sony logo showed up, then the Powered by Android logo, and then 5-6 seconds of the animation after which it abruptly switched off. This happened every time i tried switching it on.
I then connected it to the wall charger, when the Z1 showed up this message

It doesn't boot up even though it's connected to the wall charger.
My guess is the battery has gone rogue, but then the level isn't dropping either.
Now I don't know what to do, bcoz I have no idea what the problem is.
If any fellow members have gone through a similar problem, help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks anyways [emoji4]

Never had this message, but I presume this issue is because of what you said: battery has reached it's end. Many people, not just on XDA, have posted various symptoms that their device's battery is failing; the most common one is the device's battery rapidly drops to a certain percent and then abruptly shuts down. Some even claimed their phone never turned back on after their phones shut off. My Z1's battery got bad to the point where the battery started to swell and unseal the back cover of my device. The solution that fixed everyone's problem, including mine, is to replace the battery.

Same problem here...
xperia Z1 C6903, shutdown for "overheating", I think is battery temperature , but not solution found.
* I've changed battery for new one, but problem persist.
* Restored phone with sony PC companion, problem persist.
* Also I've made the HARDWARE FIX
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/help/hardware-fix-xperia-z-charging-booting-t2760911
(I think I've put the correct pinpoint )
Same result, no result.
I can see the sony logo, and the boot animation some seconds, then the phone shutdown .
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks anyways

short battery time

I'm using Galaxsy s3 lte with caynogen mod on it.
my problem ocuured before i falshed the Caynogen mod.
As in the title my problem is that I have a short battery life time.
little details about my problem:
- my phone has arrived with a european charger 50 HZ , version is : I9305xxbme1
- the problem started while I was in a trip to taiwan they have American electricity 60 HZ . I was charging my phone for a long while, when the battery was about 5-10 % charged the screen quality was very low, the colors where not sharp at all , and the phone was working slowly. Therefore I took the battery out, it was a little moisty(the phone never touched water or been near them ) so I left it out for the night, then i placed the battery back in my phone and waited for it to go empty, when it did, I charged the battery back to 100% when the phone is turned of, and that solved the sharpen problem of the screen. However, when the phone was getting to about 5-10% it would automaticly shot down after the screen "blinked" and when I hit the turn on button it will not turn on - stuck on the syanogen / samsung boot picture. after charging the phone it would boot normally.
- while being in taiwan my laptop screen also got out of service and was fixed by applying warranty, on the phone i dont have warranty anymore.
that and more , the phone is getting realy warm.
thanks for helpping <3

Perhaps you should try a different kernel like boeffla or agni, to see if the problem persists or try another rom other than CM. Im on liquidsmooth rom with its default kernel and i have to say im very very happy with the battery life, see picture of battery since last charging.

Very high battery drain with 70% CPU usage on idle

Around 3 days ago, my phone has turned from around at least 6 hrs of SoT to around 2-3, even while only leaving it mostly in my pocket. This happened after i factory resetted my phone, for some odd reason. When the CPU usage was usually below 50%, this time it's AT LEAST 70%, often reaching to 100% for no reason. The process "Android System" on the battery usage screen takes up around 40% of my battery drain. I had google assistant at the time, so i thought it was the problem.
I factory resetted my phone again yesterday, and it fixed the problem temporarily. Assistant became now on tap again, and Android system only used up around 8%. But the battery drain just came again when i woke up today.
Does anyone know what CPU process might have been the cause to this problem? Or else I'll just factory reset I guess, but i'm scared it'll happen again and again.
Note: My smartwatch, root, substratum, and KLWP aren't the cause, since last week when I used these things my CPU usage was fine.

Help pls ;-; phone is really unusable for long periods of time
Edit: Got CPU usage down to around 10% most of the time using this APUS Booster app I found, looks shady and bloatware-y as **** but it works i guess. Have to do it everytime i restart phone though
reflash the rom.
I think the problem is with pocket mode \ proximity detection.
Try this experiment:
Cover prox sensor with one palm and try to unlock using the fingerprint scanner. If pocket mode is on, nothing will happen. Phone won't unlock.
Now shift palm covering the prox sensor slightly away and repeat above. At some distance you will be able to unlock phone.
My hypothesis is that if one keeps phone facing the body, pocket mode may not get activated allowing the fingerprint sensor to keep sensing one's body (capacitive) and the phone won't unlock but every movement will keep on making the FP scanner work heating and draining battery.
This did not happen in 7.0. But 7.1.1 update seems to reduced sensitivity of proximity sensor.
Workaround: keep phone in pocket with screen facing away from ones body.
Hope this works.
The proximity sensor works well enough except* it's clearly constantly draining your battery
I'd just turn it off
I don't have 7.1.1 yet so IDK about how the updates have changed things. It works well on 7.0. but clearly that's going to burn a lot more resources than it's worth

P) high battery drain

hello everyone, here is my problem - in last couple of week i'm having really big battery problems (to the point i'm thinking of smashing my phone to the ground ) I take my P9 of the charger and it says it is at 100%, after only few min it drops to about 90%, and when i open some app (facebook atc) it freezes and when i try to turn it on again it says 0% battery!! when i hook it up on charger it takes 20 mins to charge to 1%, and when i turn it on again it says anywhere between 40% and 100%!!! Freezing most commonly appears when i turn on my camera and take a picture, it snaps then freezes. Tried with the factory reset it didn't help.
Please anybody!!!
Most likely the battery has worn out. Is it still under warranty?
Same here, sometimes camera apps freeze and then i will reboot it. After reboot, phone shows 5% power and then force itself into shutdown. The battery actually may not empty as told by phone, when i start charging, it shows more than 5% and phone actually have juice to run longer.

Sounds like a battery replacement to me. Have to tried installing AccuBattery or anything similar to check the battery health?

It's not the battery causing this fault

I have replaced the battery in my P9 and it still gets a power drain when the camera is operated. This usually occurs in low light environments. If I immediately turn the phone back on it starts up with maybe 20% battery, which then drops 1% a second and gets hot. This is with a brand new battery fitted. I conclude there is a glitch with updated software. Hopefully Huawei will read these posts and correct with future updates.

Not the battery
Try removing your sd memory card. I think a malfunctioning sd card was causing issue of battery drain during camera use. I can't explain the full science behind this, but my p9 phone has been fine since I removed the sd

Black screen during charge - no reboot possible

Hi everyone,
I'm coming to you with a random problem which I can't reproduce. Over the 2 past years, I had it about 2 times but I had to wake up at 5 am.....
Here's the explanation :
I'm putting my phone on charge, the alarm (The app AMDroid) is supposed to ring at 5 am but sometimes it doesn't. When i'm finally waking up, I'm finding the phone blocked. Black screen, no sound, no response to physical buttons (volume, power) or fingerprints. I'm forced to reboot it with the volume up + power off keys.
I really don't understand from where comes the problem. I already had when I was using the regular sony alarm app and as I said above I can't reproduce the bug which is kind of embarassing when I have to get up early...
I hope you'll be able to help me,
Thanks !
Bump !
I just had this happen to me this morning, and solved it with the same procedure.
I noticed this morning when I woke up that the device was extremely hot, potentially a temperature failsafe kicked in?
If that were the case, I have no idea what would be causing it. Presumably something has the CPU pegged at max load.
I may try to dig for logs, but I'm not familiar with how to do this on Android.
Hi Telomeres, thanks for your comment !
Two quick questions :
- do you have the fingerprint unlock feature enabled ? (do you have at least one fingerprint recorded)
- si you have the battery maintenance (i don't know the exact name in English) enabled ?
I'm trying to pinpoint the problem, so far i have those only two options..

I do have the fingerprint unlock enabled, despite being the US. My guess was that I was accidentally shipped an international version somehow? I did not go through any measures to enable this on my own.
If you're talking about "battery care" where the device slows down your charge rate to increase longevity, yes I do have that enabled.
Your information about the battery overheating is making me think about the battery care. I don't have regular schedules so this option activates kinda randomly just like the problem pops out.
I'm asking you that about the fingerprint because i saw a thread where someone said the fingerprint sensor was at fault.
Unfortunatly for us, we both have the same settings hahaha
Actually, on checking my settings Battery Care was disabled and I believe that setting persists through reboots. However, I did not have my phone charging overnight. I don't recall what percent my battery level was before bed.
Damn. So close to find a clue !
Happened again overnight last night.
I had battery care enabled this time.
I really don't understand from where comes the problem ; we both have a totally different setup and ways of use/charge our phones :/
I'm having the same issue...... I'll see if I can get get some logs..... I do use battery care and stock alarm..... Twice in the month of October ive nearly been late for work because my phone locks up, charge light remains amber but is full (no excessive heat) and I have to force reboot
I had the same kind of lockup like 5 times now in the last two month. Last lockup was tonight with the September security update.
This happened to my phone twice recently, but my phone was NOT charging.
Last time it happened, I went to bed before midnight, my phone was at about 70% battery, so I decided not to plug it in. I put the phone on a shelf beside my bed and fell asleep.
When I woke up in the morning (I don't use phone alarm, rely on my smartwatch for that), the phone was unresponsive, black screen, needed to long press VolUp + Power buttons to reset it. I'm not sure when I plugged it in - before or after the reset, but the battery was basically flat. I took a screenshot of the battery chart that morning, which seems to tell that the phone has been dead for most of the night. As you can see in the screenshot, the battery line is natural until after midnight and then it's just a straight flat line until the morning. This leads me to think maybe it's a battery problem?

Random turning off of OnePlus 3T

Hi guys, I have the following problem. My phone keeps turning off at random times. Today it happened more then 5 times. The problem started about a month ago. The phone started turning off at random times. So I did a factory reset with complete data wipe and it didn't help. So then I disabled Google services like Chrome, Disk, Gmail etc., Cleaned the chache as well. So this stopped the problem for a while. The I decided to turn back the services one by one to see if it works and it did work alright for a week or so. But since yesterday the problem got worse. I disabled the services one again but the problem stays. I should point out that about 6 months ago I send the phone for a battery change and it was done in official OnePlus service center with OEM part. So the battery should be fine. What I noticed is a huge battery drain on the phone while is turnes off. I attach screens showing the drain and that it had about 1,5 hours of screen on time. There is barely any app on the phone. I use Edge instead of Chrome, I have Viber plus three or four other apps to try keep it simple. Can you help me with that issue?

Just wow. I have exactly the same problem. I also changed the battery 6 months ago like you did but myself with eBay battery. I was thinking it has something to do with the battery cable not connecting properly but the battery was changed 6 months ago and the problem started 1 month ago like yours. The eBay seller is sending me a free replacement to see if it works. I also tried formating ,wiping cache etc but nothing worked. I have no issues with battery drain at all though. The new battery works fine. Sometimes I notice a little overheat that I have never seen before in the 3 years I use as a daily driver. Also sometimes when it powers off, the only way to power it on is by plugging the charger.
