Plastic frame of XP a GOOD thing! - Sony Xperia X Performance Questions & Answers

I hear some people complaining about the frame of the XP being plastic. But I watched a video review and the reviewer (pro) said that Sony did that so to improve signal strength. They still made it look nice, so if doing that makes my calls' signal strength stronger, then I'm all for it! Ppl have to remember this IS a phone. lol

Do you have WM6.5 or do you have android installed on your HD2? You should have posted this in one of the general forums (HD2 WM6.5 or Android general) so I would know and could provide the app to do this.
I have NAND Android and I am currently running on HyperDroid-GBX-v12.
Please advise if there is any way to get better signal or any ROM which is known for better signal strength
Try a few different radios. You flash them just like a Windows Mobile ROM. Flashing a new radio will not erase your Android ROM or CWM or anytthing else, just replaces the radio.
I have a sticker like this just over the antenna, it gave me 1 bar more in a place where I had only 1-2 i reached 2-3 bars in Android.

I want to think it works, it was less than $1usd, so it won't hurt and it is not visible.

You will keep running into problems. Switch from WIND to a better network. If you don't need Data. Chat-r is brilliant. I Just did the same a week ago. Life is much easier.

Lol, those stickers don't do anything amigo. Ask yourself "how does a piece of gold painted plastic boost my phone's ability to receive or transmit a signal?"
Placebo effect at best.

The signal levels in this video are my exactly experience.
It is cooper I think help to "concentrate" more signal to the antenna (in/out).
Probably just works with the GSM(2G) signal -which I always use-
I have been using it for +7 years now (total cost < $3usd).
edit: If anyone plan to buy it.. don't spend more than $1. there are some crazy prices out there.

OK did a 5 min test w/o and W the sticker on my HD2 running on 2G t-mobile USA in the exactly same place.
W/o the sticker:
-77dbm 18asu
With the sticker:
-73dbm 20asu
Again only 2G (3G might get worst) and don't pay more than $1
the technical idea behind those stickers is real. the sticker itself is a thin copper foil. When hit by EM radiation it will provide a greater surface contact and will radiate the EM energy on it's own. It's a bit complicated, i cannot explain it in english.
However think of it like when you have a piece of metal placed near a magnet. Even if the piece of metal is not magnetic by itself it can become magnetized and will attract other pieces of metal by its own even if the original magnet was removed.

Good to hear that I'm not living a lie having those stickers. I knew that that weird design , which looks like aliens did it, has some engineering on it.
By the way, i have not try to improve my signal via software bc in my simple mind to do something that works you need to fool the phone to think it has always low signal, therefore forcing it to "radiate" more and improve my reception.
I have the phone in my pocket.. and I don't want a free vasectomy.

The functionality is "induced electromagenticity". The radio signal crosses the thin copper on sticker and induces current. This current reproduces voltage which beams signal again. Something like a relay functionality. ...for poor man

No, it has to be close to the antenna so I placed in the plastic area where the "void" screw is and the sticker will cover a little of the sim, the hd2 antenna is around there. I didn't want to stick it(bc it interferes with the sim, etc) so I carefully placed and put some tape in the edges of the sticker so it wont move.
All this is under the metal battery door.
attached sketch.
Many thanks, it's worth a try!

I see only comments about the sticker thing. Not about the flash. I really doubt the signal will be any better with the *.apk provided in above post. RIL tweaks seem to be the better choice because it depends very much on where you live (at least so it seems from other posts).

Best phone? Worst phone? Who cares?

Just from reading through a load of the threads in this forum, I've noticed a lot of indecision.
Let me explain...
Apparently, this phone has not got enough in stock to make sure everyone gets one, there's a buzz from the earphones, it heats up too much, it has poor battery life, poor touch sensitivity, easily scratchable, screen smashes too much, it drops down the toilet too easily, it makes a rattling noise, yellow tint, screen glitching, the screen looks washed out, massive interference whilst using a car charger, a looping FC of Bluetooth Share, not enough vibration, it randomly reboots, black dots under the screen, no connection on WLAN, not enough storage, dead pixels, grainy photos, LED flash doesn't work, wonky haptic feedback, antenna gate issue, slight lift on screen, brightness gets broke, unresponsive power button, slow auto focus, creaking on bottom right of the device, most free media from the play store only available in the US, purple glaze effect on the camera, wireless charging problems, the onscreen soft key, poor WiFi signal, gap between bezel and the side of the phone, it won't drive your car for you and it won't grow legs and kick your enemies.
I'm surprised I haven't seen a complaint saying that the box it comes in is 1mm too thick.
And yet the majority of people think it's the best phone ever.
Just make up your freaking mind!!!!!

I must disagree.
The box is way too thin. It creases way too easy and under a lunar eclipse you can really notice it.
Love the phone. My only complaint is that the vibrate thingy is useless!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Well if the box was 1inch thinner it would fit better in my drawer so damn them for not checking that before releasing the phone.
Seriously I love the design and only time will tell if it will be durable enough etc but for design its an A++

Mine has 'niggles' but I don't care, I'm picky but I'm not THAT picky!
The vibration works well, my alarm went off in my pocket when I was driving, gave me a boner so it's clearly strong enough! lol
People seem to be vocal with problems. I've always received an item, decided if it lives up to my expectations and returned it if it doesn't, without moaning on the forums. If it's a software issue, like most of my niggles I'm going to just deal with them until the fix comes, since this is a Nexus device after all, we're in good shape for updates!
Products have issues, welcome to the realm of early adoption.
Phil
Yep I agree. As much as everyone wants the perfect device you can't have cutting edge tech the day it comes out AND have a perfect device.
Under testing there is simply not enough retail devices made at this point to mass test under mass production conditions for long enough to find faults.
Even apple and Samsung and Sony etc etc all release devices be it phones TVs laptops hard drives or a desk fan all will be released before kinks are worked out
This is not deliberate, its just that issues which come up have not been found yet.
Check any identical devices made even 4months apart and you will no doubt find that there are different revisions of board used in them or chip.
Plastic production can be different and parts can be sourced else where .
So unless a recall is required for a dangerous fault, issues will be resolved in future devices.
This is not lg this is anything with a plug that this relates to.
I do agree however many cosmetic flaws should never pass quality control as they are easy enough to see and most of these QC checks are done with cameras now not humans so any discrepancy should be picked up easily to be referred to a human to double check.

Yeah, F this forum! Let's move to 4chan/nexus4!
Mine has a slightly buzzing earpiece and the screen seems a little darker on one side although this is probably just my eyes lol.
I have none of the other issues, and have to say that it is a MUCH better phone than the SGS 3 I had for six months.
I was constantly changing ROMS on the SGS3 and was never 100% happy.
This phone is built better, is louder, has a stronger vibrate, better screen, louder and clearer speaker, clearer in calls, much faster and is truly smooth and lag and skip free. The touchscreen is perfect.
Cannot make even one complaint about this phone that would put me off it.
I am enjoying my phone a ton!
My phone rattles but since I don't have Parkinsons I don't hear it.
I have the buzz but the only time I would be able to hear it is when I am on the phone and either me or the other person is talking to I can't hear it!
I don't take my phone to the bathroom so I haven't dropped it in the toilet yet.
Overall a great phone and totally worth the purchase price!
I can't believe we have a complaint thread about complaints and yet the word "glass" is not mentioned once. You people suck.

Does the htc one really have good build quality?

[POLL] Does your Nexus 5 have death grip issues?

Hi, this is something I generally like to ask with new phones. Does your Nexus 5 have any death grip issues? I personally tried gripping it every way I could and there was no signal loss whatsoever
With my HTC One if I would put the bottom left into my palm it would drop signal, and I know the iPhone 4 would lose signal if you put the bottom left into your palm as well.
Just want to know what y'all have experienced!
No NeXus 5 is better than every other phone
Sent from my NeXus 5
No grip issue here other than needing a case to feel comfortable with it.
I'm thoroughly impressed with the N5 reception on tmo, death grip and all!
NX5
According to some of my buds over at S4GRU, the Nexus 5 is a champ in terms of Radio Frequency performance on Sprint, so I'd assume it's a monster on all of the other carriers.
EDIT: I believe that the Nexus 5's RF success comes from it's envelop tracking, which enables it to use more power to grab signals at a lower power consumption.

My thoughts exactly! I was even trying to make it lose signal but it wouldn't!
No such issues noted on 700mhz, 1700mhz or WiFi bands. Better WiFi than just about any phone I've owned, too..
So two people voted no but didn't care to explain their problem?
wasnt aware of all this. hmm. maybe ill buy some hulk hands and grip it til it snaps in two then check my signal.

Your HTC One has an aluminum build, the iPhone you referenced has a metal band around the sides. This doesn't play nice with RF so special antennas and designs are used to make it work. They usually place them around the outside rather than the traditional place inside the enclosure (this is what those little black lines along the outside of the iPhone 4-4S are), but you run into issues like the "death grip" for example. It's still cool technology though.
The Nexus 5 is all plastic, so there is no metal build to interfere with signal like on the aforementioned handsets.
No issues.

I have the Luphie aluminum bumper with glass back. It looks and feels amazing but there is some signal loss. Sometimes in my house it will drop to 3g when I normally get about 2 bars of 4g.

I bought the White/Gold version and got it today. I have about 10 cases and I would say this is the best looking one. My signal does seem to decrease but my LTE speeds are the same with or without it. GPS also connects in seconds and the heart sensor works even with the glass. The only thing I see wrong with it is that there's no cut out for the IR sensor so if you use the phone as your remote it won't work with the case on. I took some pics but not the best quality as I only had my tablet at my disposal.

I take back what i said about minimal signal loss. I took it to work today with the case on and could not get 4G signal at all. I normally get 2-3 bars of 4G but it would never switch over from 3G. I wished there wasn't such a loss in cell signal cause this case is beautiful but I'm going to have to return it.
Anybody know where I can find a good plastic bumper? There are a plethora of aluminum bumpers but I can't even find a cheap plastic one.
Lol yea anything that has a metal bumper degrades the signal. I also bought this case. With it on, I would no longer get LTE indoors, it would drop to 4g. Also, it decreases my signal by 2-3 bars, no matter where I am.
Furthermore, It has bad tolerances. I had to put pieces of paper to fill up some of the gaps and along the buttons, otherwise it would rattle. It does look decent, except for the badly written text on the back. It's unnecessary and ruins the minimalistic look.
I would skip this.

i havent took mine out he house yet because i do construction and during the week i use a more rugged case but on weekends like now ill take it out and test it
and hey does the back of your case lock? sometimes mine doesnt i have to like force it a certain way
Luphie bumper case mostly are aluminum frame, impressive on their design and workmanship, if you're more attend to metallic and there is no more words on them if you don't care the signal loss, for luphie are focus on frame and which will reduce signal strength more or less as we know,I tried 2pcs one for S4 and one for S6 Edge, both of the same situation so comes a conclusion like this for reference.
More details you may check their online store:

Its pretty good, looks cool but I bought a black one and U can tell the difference between the black glass on the back and the black sapphire on the res of the phone.
I'm thinking about a mate black skin to make the phone match the case.
Also the gold bumper is not bright gold, more like mate gold, but it really suits the phone. Plus it comes in a very nice box ahahah
Good luck.
